*forgot to say this last time, Velma is Ukrainian and im having trouble putting it into writing.(yes, i know a Ukrainian, he has a very heavy accent.) hey, new chappie up like i said. the last chapter was a little snippet that i had wanted to put in here but felt that it didn't meld well, so i used it as an intermission.

I smile as I head back into the ten house town, dragging two doe's behind me on a bladed sled. Yugi's going to be so happy when he sees how much meat I brought back. Most of it will be for us, but Yugi will no doubt pout me into sharing. Yugi's so nice to everyone, even after they started shunning him. That always confused me, they never deserved one iota of kindness, but that's ever-forgiving Yugi for you.

After a few min., I enter the town and make my way to our shared house. I moved in after Yugi's grandfather died, he needed a lot of comfort. He still remained his kind self, but he became a bit more reserved. I walk up to the brown ornate door and knock before I go inside. He stopped lighting up the town with his smile, but he still smiled for me.

I head inside, leaving the deer outside, I wanted to surprise him with the good news. I look around the large kitchen/ living room and don't see him. Well, it is noon, he might be out helping one of the villagers. I take off my bow and quiver from around my neck and lay it down on the table after unstringing the bow.

I go outside and find Yiko walking back to her house with a small bag of grain. I smile and call out to her. She turns and smiles, waving back at me.

"Good day Jou! How are you today? Did you catch anything?"

I catch up to her and continue smiling.

"Yeah, um, do ya know where Yug' is? I want his help wit-"

I stop short at the panicked look she gives me. I stop smiling, did something happen?

"Yiko?"

"U-um, you should talk with the elder. Something came up awhile back."

I gasp.

"What, did he get sick?"

She shakes her head.

"You should go see the elder."

I scrunch my eyebrows, but shrug and anxiously head to the elder's hut. I get up to it and knock, in case he's busy or not in. I hear a "come in" and I push aside the cloth door. The hunched old man looks up from his trunk of books and smiles.

"Ah, Jounouchi! How are you?"

"Um, good I guess."

He straightens up and shuffles over to me.

"Can I help you with something my boy?"

I pause, nervous. I hope nothing bad happened to Yugi.

"Um, I was wondrin' where Yug' was. Yiko told me ta come ta you."

The man's face becomes gloomy. He shifts his eyes down and fidgets with his hands.

"Ah, y-yes. I suppose this was bound to happen."

I scrunch my eyebrows again.

"What do ya mean? What happened? Is Yug' ok?"

He sighs and I grow impatient.

"Well?"

He looks back up at me with a serious expression.

"He's gone Jounouchi."

I widen my eyes in shock and instinctively clutch at his tunic.

"Gone? Whadya mean gone? What hap-"

He raises a hand and I slowly let go, my panic not wavering. He sighs in relief when he's free again.

"We didn't have enough food stored for winter. It was decided that we had to sell Yugi for money and food."

It took a min. before it all sunk in. When it did, I clenched my fists so that I didn't start choking him out of rage.

"Ya. Did. What! Why tha hell did ya do that? What gave you the right-"

"It was for the best!"

I shut up and tone down my voice.

"What do the others think abou' this?"

He sighs and rubs his forehead.

"It was put to a vote and everyone agreed. Yugi was the least valuable member of the village."

"Least valuable? He helped everyone the best he could!"

"There was also the chance he could've gotten sick like his-"

I scoff and storm out of the hut. What bullshit! That bastard was just making excuses! I eventually stomp my way back to Yugi's old hut and just stand outside, staring at the two Doe's. I then get an idea. Those villagers aren't getting a scrap of this meat.

Yugi's POV

I groan and shift inside the blanket that was wrapped tightly around me.

"Hey! I think he's awake!"

I squint my eyes open to see a girl with straight black hair and bright blue eyes, smiling and staring down at me. She soon moves and someone helps me up and takes the blanket from me. I yawn and rub my eyes, noticing Yami and the girl standing near me. I then notice that the girl is bouncing up and down, squealing and clapping her hands.

"Move girl, I need to see ze boy."

The girl gets pushed aside by a rather stout woman with long, braided brown hair. I wonder where her accent is from. She looks me over with her flaky grey eyes and scowls, making the corners of her face wrinkle.

"No! Zis will not do! He iz too skinny!"

Bewildered, I stare after her as she huffs off. I hear chuckling and look up, confused, at Yami. He just smiles down at me then leaves. The bouncing girl makes to come back until the stout woman comes back and shoves a bowl and spoon into my hands.

"Once you are done, you will be given more."

She then goes back over to a fire with a large pot over it that I had just noticed. I look back down at my bowl then start to slowly eat the warm stew. I hear giggling and look back up to the girl who hadn't left yet.

"Don't take it as a bad thing, she did it to everyone. She still does it me!"

I hum and just look around, feeling kind of lost. I spot the woman looking at me and she puffs up.

"Eat boy! Or I will make you!"

I squeak and continue eating. The girl giggles again and sits next to me.

"Welcome, by the way. My name is Mana, you?"

I smile and swallow what I had in my mouth.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Yugi."

She beams at me.

"Nice to meet you too! After you're done eating, why don't I introduce you to the rest of the guys?"

"Sure."

She nods, still smiling, and gets down off whatever I'm on, heading over to the pot. I sigh and look down at my half full bowl, how much is she going to make me eat?

**time change**

I groan as I am forced to finish a fourth bowl of stew. I hand it back to the woman I now know is named Velma and grimace at her.

"Please, no more! I'm gonna burst!"

She scrutinizes me then nods taking the bowl and putting it with the others on the overstocked cart that I was sitting on earlier. I sigh in relief and look around for Mana. Smiling as I spot her cheerfully bouncing over. She stops in front of me takes my hand.

"Come on, let's introduce you to everyone before we head out."

I nod and let her drag me off.

"I'm surprised though, she must really think you're scrawny to make you eat that much."

I pout at the ground until I notice us heading towards a group of people who are packing everything up. The blond haired one looks up and smiles, dropping what he was doing and comes over. The others, four girls and two guys, just look up and also stop what they're doing, waiting for us to come over.
