"DUEL" - A BOY FROM TAMARAN COMES TO JUMP CITY TO CHALLENGE ROBIN.
DUEL
The Titans were doing their best to keep Plasmus, Cinderblock and Overload from reaching each other. The last thing they wanted was for the three of them to connect. If that happened they would be in serious trouble.
Cyborg and Robin teamed up against Cinderblock, keeping him away from Plasmus who was further down the street battling Beast Boy and Raven. On top of a building was Overload who was struggling to pass by Starfire so he could get below and join his pals. Starfire threw starbolt after starbolt at her opponent, pushing Overload away from the ledge. The virus snarled at her and whipped his arm out, encircling her ankle and electrifying her. Starfire screamed in pain, her cries alerting Robin who's attention then turned towards her direction just in time to see her falling from the rooftop.
"Starfire!" he yelled, grappling hook already out. He launched forward, his free hand stretched out, ready to grab her. Just a little closer...
An orange blur passed him and grabbed Starfire. The blur, which was flying down towards the ground, was a boy. The boy gently placed Starfire on the ground and a moment later Robin landed besides them. Now that he was closer Robin was able to tell that the boy was clearly from Tamaran. The orange skin and trademark green eyes were clear indicators. The boy also wore typical Tamarian garb, such as the silver neckplate and gloves with gems embedded within them. He had a silver armband and belt, as well as silver boots that reached his knees. The boy wore navy pants and no shirt, showing off his toned chest. His long red hair reached his waist and was pulled into a ponytail and his bangs were swept to the sides of his face.
Robin spoke. "Who are-"
The boy stood up, and Robin noted he was taller than Starfire, and growled. His eyes glowing and his teeth bared the boy took off, launching himself at Overload who was about to attack Cyborg from behind. The boy fired his blue eyebeams at Overload who was thrown backwards by the force of it. The villain crashed into a firepump, the lid popping off and showering him with water. Cinderblock targeted the boy, roaring at him. The boy narrowed his eyes and tackled Cinderblock to the ground, wrestling him.
Cyborg backed up to join Robin. "Man, who is that?"
"No clue. He came out of nowhere and saved Starfire."
A moment later Beast Boy skidded up to them on his back, having been tossed from Plasmus. He pulled a clump of Plasmus goo out of his hair. "Man this reeks," the young changeling whined. His ears twitched and he noticed the Tamarian who was now tossing Cinderblock around like a rag doll. "Who's the new guy?"
"No idea," Cyborg and Robin said at once.
Raven hovered in, her hands glowing as she struggled to hold Plasmus back. "I could use some help here."
The Tamarian boy charged past her, his eyes already shooting blue energy.
Raven lowered herself to the ground by her teammates. "Who's that?"
The boys shrugged in response, question marks appearing above their heads.
Starfire, who was at this time in Robin's arms, stirred. Her eyes slowly opened.
"Starfire, are you alright?" Robin asked as he helped her stand to her feet.
"I am the okay," she answered, rubbing her head. She looked over to where the Tamarian boy was taking on Plasmus and gasped. "Ph'yzzon?"
Beast Boy raised a brow, not even bothering to attempt to repeat what she just said. "Who?"
Starfire clasped her hands together as Plasmus reverted back to his orginal form of a sleeping human, the Tamarian boy hovering above him as the glow in his eyes faded. "In your language his name is... Cometwind."
TT
With the battle over the Titans, plus the Tamarian boy known as Cometwind, returned to Titans Tower. Once they arrived in the common room Cometwind's face lit up as he zipped around examining everything. He spoke in Tamarian as he sniffed, touched, and even licked everything that was around him. This included the sofa, tv, kitchen appliances, and even Robin's utility belt.
Robin was appalled and swiftly jumped back. He gritted his teeth. "You do not go around licking utility belts!"
Cometwind cocked his head to the side. He then leaned over to Starfire and whispered something in Tamarian. She spoke back to him in Tamarian, and then he replied with a sheepish smile as he poked his fingers together.
Starfire looked at Robin. "He apologizes for licking your utility belt, as well as everything else."
"You know maybe we could avoid any other incidents like that if he just spoke English," suggested Cyborg.
"What a glorious idea," Starfire agreed. "I shall transfer my knowledge-"
"No way," Robin cut in, jabbing a thumb at Cometwind who was now examing the remote intently. "Are you kissing that guy." He blushed, looking away. "We're dating now, Star, so that means..."
"Any lip contact is to conducted with you, and only you," Starfire finished. Her cheeks turned red and she smiled. Robin smiled back at her.
"Well he still needs to learn English," Cyborg reminded them all. He glanced at the other girl in the room. "So I guess that leaves you Raven."
"Dude, no way!" Beast Boy shouted. Everyone looked at him and he rubbed his arm awkwardly. "I mean, uh, he could have space germs or something."
Raven pulled up her hood, turning her back to the others so no one could see the red on her cheeks. "I'm not doing it."
No one noticed the sigh of relief that escaped Beast Boy as they zoned in on Raven.
"Come on, Raven. It's just one peck," Cyborg pressed.
"It's only so he can speak English," Robin added.
Off to the side Cometwind had inquired what was going on. Starfire informed him that they were trying to convince Raven to share lip contact with him so he could speak English. There was a pause as Cometwind examined Raven. She felt him staring and looked back at him with a glare and hissed.
Cometwind gulped nervously. "I refuse to partake in lip contact with the one known as Raven."
The room fell silent and everyone looked at their guest. There was a pause.
"You... you speak English?" Robin questioned.
Cometwind nodded.
"How come you didn't tell us?" asked Beast Boy.
"Because," Cometwind dropped to one knee before Starfire and smiled dashingly at her. "I was hoping to have lip contact with the princess."
Starfire blushed and Robin glared as he was engulfed in flames.
"So how do you two know each other?" Cyborg inquired as Raven brought out the fire extinguisher and used it on their leader.
"I believe classmates is the closest definition," Starfire explained. "We were both trained in the ways of combat by the Warlords of Okaara along with my brother and sister."
"Starfire and her siblings completed training before me," Cometwing added. "I signed up for additional training."
"More school? What are you, some kind of nerd?" Beast Boy asked and was slapped behind the head by Raven.
"What brings you to Earth, Cometwind?" Raven asked.
"The princess of course!"
Robin was engulfed by flames again. This time both Raven and Beast Boy had to use a fire extinguisher on him. One just wasn't enough.
"I went to Tamaran after I completed my training to find you, Starfire," Cometwind began as he took both her hands into his. "But you weren't there. Then I learned you were on Earth so I had to come."
"Cometwind, please," Starfire began, clearly confused as she pulled her hands away. "Why have you come to see me?"
"Starfire, I've come to take you back to Tamaran-"
Robin erupted into flames once more and Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy, all wielding fire extinguishers, struggled to put him out.
"-so that we may get married!" Cometwind finished happily, smiling ear to ear.
Robin exploded, his flames forcing back his teammates. Robin stormed up to Cometwind, ready to argue with him, but Starfire blocked him with her raised arm.
"I am sorry but I must decline," she replied with a smile and intertwined her fingers with Robin. "I am doing the seeing of someone else."
Cometwind looked at their joined hands, then at Starfire. "Princess, surely you do not mean to tell me you are in a relationship with that midget Earthling. This has to be the joking!"
"It is no joke," Starfire said seriously.
Cometwind gritted his teeth and pointed a finger at Robin. "Then I challenge him to a doorugung!"
Starfire gasped, her hands covering her mouth in shock.
"Starfire, what's going on?" Robin asked. "What's a doorugung?"
"Cometwind has challenged you to a doorugung, a Tamarian battle that occurs when multiple males ask for a female's hand in marriage. The victor wins the right to marry the female," Starfire explained.
"If I win Starfire shall return to Tamaran with me so we may wed," Cometwind announced. "And if I lose she may remain here with you."
"That's ridiculous. I'm not going to fight you for the right to date my girlfriend," Robin said before turning away.
"If you do not battle me you are nothing more than a korfflag!" Cometwind shouted.
"What's a... a... what you just said?" Beast Boy asked Cometwind.
"It means... coward."
Robin stopped in his tracks and turned around, his gaze on Cometwind. "You're calling me a coward?"
Cometwind strode up to him, his eyes glowing. "If the korfflag boots fit."
Robin glared at him. "... Cometwind, I accept your challenge."

The doorugung was a competition that was split into three challenges. The first challenge was designed to show the female which male would be a better protector. For this challenge it was decided the training area outside the tower would be used. Starfire stood outside the finish line, her foot chained to a rock to prevent her from helping the contestants. The contestants, Cometwind and Robin, stood behind a white line waiting for the signal from Cyborg so they could run the obstacle course and "save" Starfire.
"Alright y'all," Cyborg began from where he, Raven and Beast Boy were standing behind the obstacle course control panel. "On your mark... get set... GO!"
Cometwind and Robin took off, Robin in the league as he jumped over a wall that suddenly appeared. Cometwind wasn't as graceful and smashed through the wall, breaking it into dozens of pieces.
"Easy!" Cyborg called. "I'm gonna have to fix that later!"
His words went unnoticed as a hole in the ground appeared, Robin falling through it. He was a quick thinker though and immediately pulled out his grappling hook to grab onto the ledge. As he pulled himself out he noticed that Cometwind had taken the lead.
Exploding disc followed next. Robin used his birdarangs to counter them while Cometwind used his eyebeams. Robin pulled ahead, nearing the finish line. Starfire's face lip up with a smile when she saw this, Cometwind's did not. Using all his strength he punched the ground, causing a ripple effect to happen and the ground beneath Robin crumbled under his feet, sending him hurdling towards the ground face first. Cometwind grinned as he passed Robin, crossing the finish line. He broke the chain around Starfire's feet and scooped her up in his arms bridal style.
"I am victorious!" he cheered.
All Robin could do was glare.
TT
The next challenge of the doorugung was designed to show the female who was a better provider. This challenge called for the male to prepare a meal. On Tamaran meals were important as it was a simple necessity for any strong warrier.
Cometwind was extremely excited about this challenge. He, with the suppervision of Cyborg, went out to fetch all the things he needed to make the equivalent to a Tamarian dish. He took over the kitchen, moving at lightning speed as he moved from the stove, to the oven, to mixing things in a bowl. He even wore a chef hat and apron. While he moved about Robin sat in a corner, arms crossed and lips pursed.
"Dude, what's wrong with him?" Beast Boy asked, looking at the rest of his teammates who sat besides him on the sofa. "He's just sitting there. If he doesn't do anything he's going to lose again."
Starfire looked crestfallen at this, and Cyborg was quick to comfort her. "It's Robin. I'm sure he has something planned."
Starfire smiled at this before being called over by Cometwind. He was finally finished and he eagerly pulled out a chair for Starfire to sit down. He then took off the lid covering his masterpiece and a light shined down on the food. Cometwind prepared what appeared to be a turkey stuffed with spaghetti and plums, a blueberry jam like substance covering the spaghetti portion. The Titans cringed at the combination, but Starfire looked overjoyed.
"Oh, it looks just like splarj!" Starfire took a bite, and the others turned green (in Beast Boy's case greener). She smiled and clapped her hands, bouncing in her seat. "Most delicious!"
Cometwind looked smug. "Beat that, Robin."
Robin stood up and crossed over to the table. There was a pause before he pulled out a bottle of mustard and placed it on the table. A heavenly light shined down on the bottle, brighter than the light from before, and music played.
Tears came to Starfire's eyes. "Is it not the most beautiful thing your eyes have seen?" she stood up, her tears gone, and took one of Robin's hands, pulling it in the air. "Robin wins this challenge!"
Cyborg and Beast Boy cheered while Raven smiled.
"That is impossible! How can he win with such a small contraption," Cometwind demanded as he picked up the bottle of mustard. He scoffed at it before taking a sip of its contents. His eyes widened. "Oh... oh that is good."
TT
The third challenge of the doorugung was a battle of strength to prove who is stronger. This was the battle both Robin and Cometwind were looking forward to. It wasn't about just impressing Starfire, it was about two warriors and their egos (or how Raven defined it: "Ha ha I'm better than you bragging rights"). They decided the battle would take place in the obstacle course outside the tower. Robin and Cometwind stood some distance away from each other, their eyes locked.
"As it was with first battle, Robin, you shall lose," Cometwind declared.
Robin's response was to narrow his eyes.
"You can do this, Robin!" Beast Boy hollared from where he and the others stood behind the obstacle's course control panel. "Kick his butt!"
Starfire fired a starbolt in the air. "Begin!"
The two boys leapt into action. A series of blocks and kicks and punches followed. Robin threw a couple of smoke bombs, concealing the area. Cometwind gritted his teeth, eyes glowing. Something striked him from behind, knocking him to the ground. He quickly stood up and recieved another strike from his left. He punched the air and was hit from his right. He turned around and kicked. Nothing. Something struck him again and this time he growled and took to the air.
Cometwind appeared from the cloud of smoke and shot his eyebeams into it, firing randomly. The smoke cleared, revealing Robin who was on his hands and knees. Cometwind grinned at the fact that he managed to hit him. He dived down towards Robin, fist raised to strike, but before he could Robin threw an exploding disc at him, knocking him to the ground.
Behind the control panel the Titans watched as Robin and Cometwind engaged in hand to hand combat again, only this time Cometwind used his eyebeams as well. The host appeared next to them, his microphone in hand. "It looks like Robin has his hands full with this one folks. He appears to have the lead, but for how long? He can only-"
Beast Boy appeared and began pushing the host away. "Alright, get out of here. You were in the last episode. Shoo!"
The battle reached a standstill, the boys returning to a similiar position as before when the fight started.
"You are a formidable opponent, Robin," Cometwind said. "But I still have one more trick."
Robin cocked an eyebrow as Cometwind began to glow. There was a flash of blue light so strong Robin had to use his cape as a shield. When the light faded Robin lowered his cape and gasped. Standing before him was not only Cometwind, but two other Cometwind's made up of a blue energy.
Cometwind smirked. "Are you impressed? These are my binaries. They are energy forms of myself."
Starfire clenched her fist and the others glanced at her.
"Starfire, what's going on?" Cyborg asked. "Is that a normal Tamarian power?"
"No, it is not. A Tamarian power is limited to only flight, strength, and eyebeams."
"And the starbolts you and your siblings have?" Raven questioned.
"The result of the experiments the Psions forced upon us."
"Is it possible the same could have happened to Cometwind?" Raven asked.
Starfire glanced at Cometwind and frowned. "It is the only possible explanation, and for that I fear the outcome of this battle."
Below the standstill had ended and Cometwind's binaries were on the attack. They were difficult to battle. Robin's physical attacks were ineffective, his weapons useless.
Cometwind laughed. "Give up, Robin! You cannot win."
"There's no way I'm giving up," Robin muttered. He glanced at Starfire. "Not ever."
Robin ran forward, taking out his bostaff and using it to push himself up so he could leap over the binaries. When his feet touched the ground he charged forward, heading towards Cometwind. If he could just get a good hit on him...
One of the binaries grabbed his cape and swung him around like he was a toy. He flew backwards and the other binaries grabbed him from behind, pinning his arms to his sides and squeezed. Robin cringed. These binaries had the strength of a real Tamarian. He struggled but ceased when Cometwind stepped forward, his glowing eyes menacing.
"I win," Cometwind said before raising his fist to strike.
Robin shut his eyes, ready for the blow.
It never came.
Opening his eyes Robin was shocked to see Starfire had stepped in the middle of the fight.
Starfire, who had grabbed Cometwind's fist, released him. With her eyes glowing fiercely she spoke. "This battle ends now."
Cometwind didn't question her and the glow in his eyes faded along with his binaries, causing Robin to drop to his feet. "As you wish my bride."
"Cometwind, I am not your bride," Starfire stated.
He looked at her, startled. "But I won the doorugung. The rules of Tamaran state-"
"I know the rules of Tamaran very well, but we are not on Tamaran. Earth is my home. It is the rules of this planet that I now follow."
"But, Starfire," he took her hands in his. "I came all this way so that we can be together."
"I know and I am sorry," she removed her hands from his and placed them in Robin's. "But the one I care for is Robin." She smiled. "He is the only one who I wish to be the together with."
"You will not change your mind?" Cometwind asked. Starfire shook her head and he sighed. "Very well, I understand." He put a fist over his heart. "X'Hal."
Starfire mimicked him. "X'Hal."
He took off then, disappearing into the sky, the Titans watching him go. After a moment passed Cyborg spoke up.
"So am I the only one who wants to try that turkey spaghetti thing he made?"
TT
Night had fallen over Jump City and many were tucked in their beds, but not Robin. The young leader had found himself on the roof of Titans tower looking at nothing in particular. He had been like this for some time.
He felt a presence behind him and patted the empty space besides him. "C'mon out, Star."
Starfire did as she was told and sat besides him. "I do not mean to intrude. I merely wanted to do the checking up on you."
"It's fine," he said, looking away.
After a pause Starfire spoke up. "Are you... angry about the outcome of the battle?"
He looked at her. "Is that what you think is bothering me?"
She nervously stroked her hair. "I know you do not like to lose."
"Star, I'm not upset because I lost the battle. I'm upset because I almost lost you," he looked away again. "I'll admit, at first all I could think about was winning, but then that changed... All I could think about was keeping you here on Earth... with me."
Starfire smiled. "Truly?"
Robin blushed and looked at her. "I... care about you, Star. I don't want to lose you."
"And you never will," she said before moving closer to him.
They kissed.

SPECIAL THANKS TO Angel-of-Energy, Magic Kiwi, Agent of the Divine One, chipmunkswillrule, Pineapple girl 1997 AND BerryDrops FOR THE AWESOME REVIEWS! THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS, I'M SO GLAD YOU GUYS ARE ENJOYING THE STORY!
Okay, so apparently in the comics Ph'yzzon had the power to conjure energy forms of himself called binaries and he too was experimented on by the Psions. If it wasn't for the whole binaries thing Robin probably would have won. Probably.
Special thanks to Angel-of-Energy for coming up with the awesome Tamarian words 'doorugung' and 'korfflag'. I can't thank you enough for giving me those as well as the idea of Ph'yzzon kissing Raven. Although he didn't kiss her I hope you liked Beast Boy's reaction.
About Ph'yzzon's name: I decided to name him Cometwind just for the fun of it. I was gonna use something like Cometfire at first but then I thought it would make him sound related to Starfire so I decided on Cometwind. Also, in my first story Teen Titans GoI brought in the character Wildfire (aka Starfire's little brother Ryand'r). The reason why I'm mentioning this is because some of you thought he was the guy that was going to show up. Anyways you're free to read it just be warned I wasn't really good at writing back in those days, but I like to think I've improved ^_^
NEXT CHAPTER: A CHAPTER FOR TITANS NORTH.
P.S. Titans North is the team of Titans I made in my story Teen Titans Gochapter 5.
