"IDENTITY CRISIS" - IS JINX GOOD OR BAD?

IDENTITY CRISIS

Wondergirl wrapped her lasso around the group of thugs at her feet. They were the average powerless criminals who wanted nothing more than to steal and cause mayhem. Unfortunately for them these thugs decided to conduct their criminal activity while Titans North was on patrol.

Wondergirl took out her communicator and brought it to her lips. Herald was by her side, twirling his horn in his right hand. "Kid Flash, report. Any more crooks in your area?"

Kid Flash responded. "Eight more on our end. Jericho just finished taking out the last one."

"Good. Bring them over so Herald can teleport them to the jail. How about you, Jinx?"

"My area is clear," Jinx answered over her communicator.

"Okay, then meet up with Herald and me."

"Will do," Jinx replied, tucking her communicator away. She hurried past a warehouse, eager to meet up with her teammates so they could return home after a long night of patrol, but something shifted to her left, catching her attention.

Jinx paused before continuing over to her left, examining the warehouse. It's door was rolled up, the inside dark. Her eyes glowed pink. Perhaps there was a crook in her area after all. She ventured deeper into the warehouse and jumped in surprise when a cat landed by her feet. The black cat hissed once before scampering off.

Jinx sighed. It was just a cat. She looked up and walked towards the exit. Something moved behind her, knocking something down. She looked behind her to see what it was and gasped as a long black hand stretched towards her and pulled her into the dark.

Herald, Wondergirl, Jericho and Kid Flash stood besides each other, the criminals that had once been wrapped in Wondergirl's lasso already transported to the prison. Jinx had yet to show up and Kid Flash was getting impatient.

The speedster groaned exaggeratedly. "Can't I just zip over there and get her already?"

"That's not necessary. I'm sure she'll be here any minute," Wondergirl said.

Jericho pointed at his wrist as if he had a watch. Herald nodded at him. "She has been gone awhile. Do you think something happened?"

Wondergirl wasn't sure how to answer that so she withdrew her communicator. "Jinx, report," she was met with silence. "Jinx?"

Kid Flash looked worried. "I'm going over there," he said, spinning around so he could sprint off in the area Jinx had been patrolling. Upon turning around he discovered there was no need. Jinx was already walking in their direction. It only took a moment for her to join the group. Kid Flash smiled at her. "What took you so long slowpoke? You had us worried."

Jinx glared at him. "Sorry I can't be as fast as you are."

"How come you didn't respond to your communicator?" Wondergirl asked, cutting in before Kid Flash could say something else.

"I'm sorry," Jinx responded. "I guess I wasn't paying attention."

"Well now that everyone is here let's go home," Herald announced before making a portal to their tower.

The team stepped through the portal, Jinx bringing up the rear. No one noticed the smirk on her face or the way her eyes glinted mischievously.

It was the start of a whole new day in Central City, home of Titans North. Kid Flash woke with a joyful attitude and when he saw Jinx in the hallway that attitude increased tenfold. He grinned at her but she abruptly passed by him. Not one to be ignored he followed her.

"What, no 'hello Kid Flash' or 'what a lovely morning we have today Kid Flash' or 'would you like me to make you some pancakes Kid Flash'," he stopped in front of her, his arms wide out, but she stepped around him. His arms fell to his sides and he frowned, his shoulders slumping. He shook his head and zipped up next to her. "Okay, I'll bite. What I do?"

"..."

He disappeared in a blur only to reappear before her a moment later. He held a rose in his hand. "A flower for milady."

This caused her to stop but only so she could glare at him. "I wish to be alone. Go be a nuisance some place else," she snapped before walking away.

The rose in his hand wilted and he shattered like glass to the floor. He brought himself together and stood up, calling after her. "I liked the silent treatment a lot better, you know."

A little while later the boys were in the gym. Herald was lifting up a barbell, Jericho was using the dumbbells, and Kid Flash sat on the floor. They were waiting for the girls to show up so they could all train together, but Herald and Jericho decided they would get in their own workout before that happened.

"... maybe she's mad at me because she found out I ate all her ice cream," Kid Flash suggested carefully. Kid Flash looked at the empty bucket of chocolate mint ice cream in his lap and tossed it to the side, whistling innocently.

"Or," Herald began. "It has nothing to do with you and it's just a girl thing."

Kid Flash looked over at the blonde in the room. "Jericho, what do you think?"

Jericho paused in his movements. After a moment he shrugged.

"That Jericho," Kid Flash began with a fake English accent as he layed flat on his back. "Tis' the wisest of us all."

Herald and Kid Flash laughed and Jericho smiled.

"What's so funny?" Wondergirl asked as she entered the gym.

"Just having a guy moment," Herald replied, sitting up on the weight bench. "Where's Jinx?"

"I'm not sure. I told her it was time for training but she said she couldn't and took off," Wondergirl looked at Kid Flash. "Did something happen?"

"That's the same question that has been bugging me all morning," Kid Flash said.

A couple of days had passed, and with every day that passed Jinx's behavior became stranger and stranger. She was refusing to partake in training sessions, skipping patrol, disappearing at night, and preferred not to be in the company of the rest of the team. Her attitude had also changed into a rude one. Currently the team met in the common room of their tower to discuss her behavior.

"She's been acting weird these past couple of days," said Herald. "But the question is why."

"I hate to say it but maybe Jinx just isn't cut out for being a superhero," Wondergirl admitted.

Kid Flash spoke up from his seat on the sofa. "One bad week doesn't mean she's not capable of being a hero."

Jericho nodded in agreement.

"Kid Flash, I don't mean to upset you but we have to look at all possibilities," Wondergirl insisted. "And there might be a possibility that our lifestyle is to much for her to handle."

"Do you think she's going to convert back to being a villain?" Herald asked.

"No!" Kid Flash snapped, standing up abruptly. "That's not Jinx anymore. She's changed."

"How can you be so sure?" Wondergirl questioned, and all eyes turned to look at Kid Flash.

"Because," the speedster began simiply. "I trust her."

There was a moment of silence before the Titans alarm filled their ears. Wondergirl was at the monitor, typing away at the key board. Security footage from a jewelry store appeared on screen. What it showed shocked the members of Titans North.

On screen was Jinx. She leaped over a policeman and kicked him in the back. She then punched another one, knocking him to the ground before she grabbed fistfulls of jewelry and stuffing it into a bag. She then ran for the door, disappearing.

The team was stunned into silence.

Wondergirl looked over at Kid Flash. "Trust, huh?" she didn't wait for him to reply and turned to Jericho. "Get a lock on her communicator."

Jericho did as he was told and started tapping on the keyboard.

"We need to find her so we can-"

"So we can do what?" Kid Flash interrupted. He narrowed his eyes at Wondergirl. "Jinx is our teammate. Our friend."

"Jinx just robbed a jewelry store. She's no friend of ours."

The two glared at each other until Herald intervined. "Jericho can't get a lock on her communicator. She must have destroyed it."

"Then we'll just have to search the city for her. Jericho, you're with me. Herald, you and Kid Flash-"

"Uh, Wondergirl...," Herald interrupted.

Wondergirl looked around the room. Kid Flash was gone.

Kid Flash ran as fast as he could. He needed to find Jinx before the rest of his team did. He needed to talk to her. Needed to know what was going on. Surely there was a reason behind all of this, a reason that would prevent him from having to turn her in.

Kid Flash checked all of her favorite spots and other places we thought he would find her in but nothing. The young speedster was just about to give up when he heard alarms ringing nearby. He ran in the direction of the alarms and when he stopped he was in front of jewelry store. He was just about to go in when the doors opened, Jinx bursting through them with a full bag in one hand and a couple of necklaces hanging from her neck.

She halted in her step. "Kid Flash? What are you doing here?"

"I'm the one who should be asking you that," he stepped closer to her. "Jinx, what are you doing?"

"What does it look like," she said as she pointed at the diamond earrings she wore. She grinned. "I'm accessorizing."

"This isn't you, Jinx. I know you. You're better than this."

Jinx stepped back, her eyes wide as she fell to her knees. She hung her head. "What have I done? I've ruined everything."

Kid Flash dropped to one knee besides her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Jinx, it's okay. We can fix this. We'll return everything and explain what happened."

She laughed. "Such a naive child."

His eyes widened. "What-AH!"

Jinx pushed a device into his side, electrocuting him. Kid Flash screamed in pain and fell over to his side, his body emitting smoke. The last thing he saw before being knocked into unconsciousness was Jinx's evil grin.

Kid Flash stirred to the sound of someone calling his name. As his eyes opened a blur of pink came into focus and he realized the one who had been calling his name was Jinx.

Jinx smiled and hugged the speedster. "You're okay!"

He pulled away from her and looked around. "No thanks to you. Why did you knock me out? And why are we both in a containment field."

"Not just any containment field. A level four containment field. And I'm not the one who knocked you out," she claimed. "It was Madame Rouge. She's had me in here for days while she's disguised herself as me." She glared at him. "I can't believe it's taken you this long to find me."

"Madame Rouge?" he paused a moment to process the information he just learned before springing to his feet happily. "Ha! I knew it! I knew you weren't bad."

"It is that style of thinking that has lead to you being captured," said the Jinx outside the containment field as her body shapeshifted to that of Madam Rouge.

Kid Flash narrowed his eyes. "Anyone ever tell you that you are a sick and twisted lady."

Madam Rouge laughed.

"What's the deal? Why did you trap us here and pose as me?" Jinx demanded.

Madam Rouge sat in a chair by a large monitor. "Isn't it obvious? I wanted revenge. You betrayed the Brotherhood of Evil. You joined the enemy. Did you just think you could walk away? Pathetic," she smirked. "Once I am done with your identity the heroes you turned to will no longer trust you."

"Your plan won't work. Once I'm out of here I'll tell everyone what you've done," Kid Flash snapped.

"You talk as if you can stop me. You are trapped," Madam Rouge reminded him. "There is no escape for you."

"Think again lady!" shouted a femine voice.

Madam Rouge turned her head to the sound of the voice and a fist connected to her face, throwing her from her chair and to the ground. She looked up and was surprised to see Wondergirl, Herald, and Jericho.

Madam Rouge smirked as she stood up. "You think you can defeat me?"

"I know we can," Wondergirl declared. "Titans, go!"

Madam Rouge stretched her fist out, targeting Wondergirl and Herald first. With her focus on them, Jericho managed to slip by and head for the monitor so he could work on freeing his friends. A few moments later the containment field holding Jinx and Kid Flash became depowered, and the latch to it's door opened. Kid Flash bursted through and immediately joined the fight with Jinx right behind him.

Kid Flash zipped up behind Madam Rouge and struck her in the back, forcing her forward and into Herald's open portal. The portal reappeared next to the containment field and Madam Rouge fell out of it. With a flick of her wrist Jinx sent a hex powerful enough to force Madam Rouge backwards and into the containment field. Wondergirl closed the door and locked the latch. Jericho then pushed a button that forced the containment field to power up. Madam Rouge glared at the smirking teens, defeated.

Later, after Madam Rouge was transported to prison and the mess she had caused Jinx was cleared up, Titans North returned home. They currently resided in the common room. Kid Flash and Jinx stood side by side as they faced the other members of their team.

"Jinx, we owe you an apology," Wondergirl began. "We doubted you, and for that we are sorry."

"Well, technically Jericho and I were just following orders-" Herald 'oofed' when Wondergirl elbowed him in the ribs. "I mean, we're sorry."

Jericho nodded in agreement.

"It's okay guys, I understand," Jinx said, looking away. There was a pause before she looked back at her teammates and smiled. "Let's just put this whole thing behind us and order some pizza. I'm starving."

Herald brought out his horn. "Pizza delivery coming up. You in, Jericho?"

The mute boy nodded.

"I'm coming, too!" Wondergirl announced as she stepped into Herald's portal, leaving Jinx and Kid Flash behind.

"You know since we're ordering pizza we have a good excuse to have a movie night. I'll just run to the movie store and pick something up," Kid Flash said, turning around.

"Kid Flash," Jinx began as she took hold of his arm. She waited until he turned around to face her. "... Thank you for believing in me."

"Anytime," he said with a grin on his face before he brought her in for a kiss.

To TitanFan222... I do plan on doing a chapter that includes Red X actually, I'm just not sure what the chapter is going to be about. I have him scheduled to come in during chapter 8. I doubt I'll be using Rorek though, sorry. I already have the story planned out and know which chapters will follow. As you've noticed each story begins with a line explaining what the chapter is going to be about. Before I started writing the story I wrote one line detailing what was going to happen in each chapter, so that's the guide I follow. Unfortunately I didn't think about Rorek. But maybe I can come up with something to include him in Red X's chapter since that's the only chapter that I haven't thought about in detail. We'll see what happens.

NEXT CHAPTER: RAVEN, BEAST BOY, AND CYBORG HAVE THEIR HANDS FULL WHEN EVERY VILLAIN IN THE CITY DECIDES THEY WANT TO INTERRUPT ROBIN AND STARFIRE'S DATE.
