"SILKIE'S DAY" - A TYPICAL DAY IN THE LIFE OF SILKIE TAKES A WRONG TURN WHEN VILLAINS BREAK INTO THE TOWER.
SILKIE'S DAY
Somewhere far, far away there was a room unknown to mankind. A secret room that was quite luxurious. The walls were exposed brick, the hardwood floor was covered with a bear skin rug, and there was a fire place, the only source of light in the room. By the fire place there was a large green leather chair with painted gold legs. Sitting on this expensive chair was Silkie, the adorable little worm and pet to the beautiful Starfire of the Teen Titans... but, this was not the regular Silkie that we all know. He was much larger, for he was as tall as the average human. He sat in the chair like a person would, dressed in a red silk robe with black accents here and there. On his headwas a little black top hat, one of his eyes had a monocle, and in his mouth was a little brown pipe.
This Silkie smiled. "Good evening ladies and gentleman. How kind of you to join me. I suppose you all have come looking for a story."
He paused, then laughed. Continuing he said, "Well, you've come to the right place! Living with the Teen titans gives me more than enough stories to share. Perhaps you would like to hear one?"
Another pause.
Silkie clapped his 'hands' and smiled once more. "Terrific! I have just the story. It's a marvelous tale about how I, the great and magnificent Silkie saved the Teen Titans."
TT
Starfire pulled the curtains open, sheading light into her room. Turning towards Silkie, who was perched on her bed, she smiled at him. It was a new day, meaning it was time for their everyday routine to begin.
The two went off to the bathroom. Once there Starfire got to work on brushing her teeth. Once done with herself she took Silkie's toothbrush (yes, the little worm had his own set of toiletries) and got to work on brushing his until they were a sparkley white. After their duties in the bathroom were taken care of Starfire got to work on brushing her hair. She then eyed Silkie who sat by her feet and smiled as a delightful idea came to her. She took a bow and placed it on Silkie's head.
After the morning's preparations were done Silkie wandered out of Starfire's room and made his way down the hallway. It was there that he ran into Robin, who wore only his mask, a white shirt, and red shorts and sneakers. Upon seeing Robin, Silkie quickly shaked the bow off his head. The young leader smiled at his little bumgorf (he had taken a liking to the term and only said it when him and Silkie were absolutely alone-couldn't ruin his reputation now could he) and held up a leash. Silkie jumped up and down in excitement and it wasn't long before the two of them were outside talking their daily run together around Titans Tower, Silkie sometimes pulling Robin along.
Afterwards, once they were back inside the tower, Robin disappeared with Starfire, leaving Silkie alone... but not for long. Silkie made his way towards Beast Boy's room and cried out to get his attention. It worked, for Beast Boy opened his door and smiled before letting Silkie inside. Moments later the two were leaping around together causing a ruckus.
Beast Boy, wearing a black cape and cowl and a yellow utility belt spread his arms out, creating a scary bat like effect. He changed his tone of voice to sound more menacing. "Come, Robin, to the cave!"
Silkie, who wore a little Robin outfit, looked up, a piece of two week old pizza in his mouth.
Once he was done playing with Beast Boy, Silkie went to Raven's room. He whined outside her door, and although it took awhile she finally opened the door. Raven glared at Silkie who looked at her with a happy expression. All his whining had interrupted her meditation, and she had full intentions of turning him away, but she caught sight of the little sparkle in his eyes and her expression softened.
She let him in and got back into her meditation mode and began to chant. Not wanting to be ignored Silkie jumped into her lap, cutting off her mantra. She glared at him again. "What?"
He wiggled at her in response.
Sighing, Raven got to work on scratching his belly. "You better not tell anyone about this," she warned before smiling the smallest of smiles.
Eventually Raven did have to return to her meditations, and poor little Silkie got the boot. While wandering the halls he came across Cyborg who was whistling while the keys to the T-car were being spun around his finger. The tower was low on food, so he was planning to take a quick drive to the grocery store. Seeing Cyborg gave the worm new energy and he jumped up excitedly, making noises to capture his attention. It worked and Cyborg paused, his whistle gone and the key no longer spinning on his finger. He focused his gaze on Silkie who waggled at him. Cyborg shrugged his shoulders and smiled.
Later, the citizens of Jump City caught sight of an odd worm poking his head out of the T-car, his tongue hanging out.
Cyborg pulled to a stop as the light turned red, and a lime green car pulled in next to him. Silkie spotted a dog in the backseat of the vechile. Upon spotting Silkie the dog began to bark and growl, scratching at the window. For a moment Silkie was confused, but he quickly growled back, scaring the dog and causing it to whimper. Silkie smiled in triumph and turned back to face Cyborg who looked looked very disappointed in him, but the metallic teen forgave him easily and patted him on the head before the light turned green.

Returning back to the fancy room this new Silkie plucked the pipe from his lips. "Ah yes, life with the Titans is pretty sweet... but all that glitters is not gold. And for those of you who have no clue what that means let me enlighten you to the fact... that I have no clue what it means either. I just thought it sounded cool."
He returned the pipe to his lips and smiled. "Now, let's return to the story."
TT
The Titans had all gathered around to eat. Silkie was on the floor by their feet, a bowl filled with a dog food like substance in front of him. He looked at the bowl with sad eyes.
Upon spotting this Starfire beckoned him forward with her finger and slipped him some toast. Silkie happily gobbled it down in one bite.
"Star, you shouldn't do that," Robin noted, his gaze focused on her while Silkie snuck in from behind and stole his chocolate glazed doughnut. "You'll spoil him that way." Turning back to his plate Robin noticed his doughnut was gone and scratched his head in bafflement. "Huh... I could have sworn..."
"Aw, c'mon, Robin," Beast Boy began from across the table. "Let Silkie eat some regular good. Anything is better than Star feeding him zorkaberries."
Starfire blushed at this and laughed shyly.
Raven held her cup of tea to her lips but paused before she could get a drink due to someone tugging at her cloak. She looked down and saw Silkie. She looked at the others and saw they weren't looking her way and put her cup on the floor. Silkie quickly went to it to lap up its contents with his tongue.
"Cyborg," Raven called. "Would you mind making me a cup of tea."
"No, problem, Raven," Cyborg said from the stove, his white chef's hat on his head. "Just give me a minute."
"I can get it for you, Raven," Beast Boy offered with a toothy grin, snatching Cyborg's chef hat and placing it on his head.
Seeing Beast Boy's tofu catch fire on the stove, Raven said, "No thanks" and pointed behind him.
He turned to see what she was pointing at and screamed. Starfire saw what was happening to and gasped before quickly filling a pot with water and throwing it onto the stove, creating a splash that drenched Beast Boy as well as extinguishing the fire.
"Um... I fear your tofu is no longer edible," Starfire said, plucking the black remains from the frying pan and showing it to Beast Boy.
"It wasn't edible to begin with," Cyborg muttered.
Beast Boy took the burned tofu in his hands and tears came to his eyes. He dropped to his knees and cried out. "NOOOO!"
There was a pause.
Silkie crawled into Beast Boy's lap, sniffed the burnt tofu in his hands, and ate it.
The moment now over, they all continued eatting. Cyborg handled the rest of the cooking, even Beast Boy's share, and nothing else got burned. Silkie was even lucky enough to score a few pieces of bacon from Cyborg. All was perfect harmony... that is, until the Titans alert sounded.
The Titans quickly jumped out of their seats and went to the monitor, Robin pulling up the reports.
"Three separate attacks," Robin read from the screen. "Atlas, Adonis, and Wrestling Star. Starfire, you and I will take on Adonis. Cyborg and Raven, you get Atlas. Beast Boy, you stop Wrestling Star. Go!"
They didn't waste anytime and quickly left.
Silkie watched them go, and after they were gone he made himself useful and disposed of their forgotten food... by gobbling it all down. Afterwards, he curled himself into a ball and took a nap on the sofa.
TT
... Silkie hadn't been asleep for very long before he heard voices inside the tower. He picked his head up and noticed a shadowy figure's movements. He whimpered in fear and jumped off the sofa, ready to go run and hide, but ran into something. Looking up he caught site of a tall and bulky figure wearing a red eye mask. This unknown figure then extended his hand towards Silkie and snatched him up before dumping him in a brown bag and sealing it up, cutting off the light from Silkie's view.
TT
Silkie was taken out of thebag he was in and roughly put into a small cage. He turned his head and got a look at his kidnappers. One was a girl who was tall and slim. She wore all black leather, including her boots, pants and long sleeve jacket that had a fur collar. Around her neck was a tiger tooth necklace and she wore a red mask to cover her eyes. Her skin was white like snow and her hair a short purple with black streaks. The person standing next to her was a bit shorter than her and a bulky boy. He wore all black leather too, including his pants, boots, and sleeveless jacket and gloves. Like the girl he had snow white skin and a red mask. His hair was black and spikey.
"Loathing," the girl drawled, her hands on her hips. "What on Earth possessed you to pick up that."
"What do you mean, Fear?" the boy, known as Loathing, asked. "We broke into Titans Tower to steal anything of value to sell... we can sell this... I think."
The girl, known as Fear, sighed. "When we broke into Titans Tower I thought we would get some valuable jewels or tech, not their ugly pet."
"Aw, c'mon, he's kinda cute," Loathing said, poking his finger into Silkie's cage and making baby noises. Silkie growled and bit his finger. Loathing quickly pulled his hand away. "Ow! He bit me!"
Fear grinned. "You know, this may work out great for us afterall."
"What do you mean?"
"We have the Titans' precious pet. If they want him back they'll have to pay us for it."
"I love the way you think," Loathing said with a smile.
"It get's better," Fear said with a wicked grin.
TT
Returning to the room where the talking Silkie resided we find him playing a handheld game with the tip of his tongue poking out of his lips. Having taken notice he is being watched he stops playing his game and hides it behind himself.
He cleared his throat before speaking. "Oh, back so soon? I suppose you want me to continue on with the rest of the story?"
A pause.
"Well, sorry to inform you but that's it. That's how the story ends. Goodnight everybody, thanks for stopping by," Silkie said cheerfully before getting out of his seat and leaving.
Another pause.
Laughing, Silkie returned and sat in his chair. "Just kidding! Now, on with the story!"
TT
With Adonis, Atlas, and Wrestling Star finally in custody the Titans returned home. They stepped into the common room, Starfire calling for Silkie as they did so. Raven, bringing up the rear, paused as she spotted a muddy footprint on the floor, her eyes narrowing.
Starfire poked her head up from the kitchen table. "I cannot find Silkie anywhere."
"I'm sure he's just running around the tower like usual, Star," said Cyborg, sitting on the sofa.
"Hey, someone ate all my cookies!" cried Beast Boy, slamming a cabinet shut. "Who did it? Come on, confess!"
"That would be me, green bean."
The Titans turned their attentions towards the monitor and saw Fear and Loathing smirking back at them. In Loathing's hands were the missing cookies Beast Boy spoke of, and in Fear's hands was Silkie in his cage.
"My cookies!" cried Beast Boy at the same time Starfire cried "Silkie!"
Robin, Cyborg, and Raven glared at Beast Boy who sheepishly corrected himself by saying, "I mean... Silkie, oh no!"
Starfire's eyes glowed green and she glared at the monitor. "What are you doing with my bumgorf?"
"Your bumgorf is fine," Fear taunted. "At least for now he is.'
"If you want him back meet us at our hideout with a briefcase full of cash," commanded Loathing a picture of their hideout appeared on screen. "You have an hour."
"And if you don't show...," Fear began before withdrawing a weapon from the pouch on her belt and firing at a crate. The crate glowed orange before exploding. She smiled. "That's just an example of what can happen to your little bumgorf."
The screen shut off just as Fear and Loathing began to laugh.
Starfire turned to Robin anxiously. "Robin-"
"Don't worry, Starfire, we'll get him back," Robin said as he took both her hands in his. "I promise."
TT
Of course there was no way the Titans were going to give into the demands of Fear and Loathing, so instead they decided to ambush them and steal Silkie back by force. They surrounded the closed bike shop Fear and Loathing were hiding in and on Robin's signal they stormed in. Raven and Robin came in from the roof, while Starfire, Cyborg and Beast Boy came in from below.
They attacked the two figures sitting at a monitor up against the wall. Cyborg made the first hit that knocked who he thought to be Loathing out of his seat. The figure fell out of the chair and crashed onto the floor, his head rolling off.
Cyborg turned pale. "I didn't mean to hit him that hard!"
Robin picked up the head, frowning. "It's okay, Cyborg. It's just a robot."
Cyborg sighed in relief.
"As is this one," Starfire announced, turning the other robot for them to see.
"If those are robots, then where are the bad guys?" Beast Boy asked.
"Closer than you think," said the female robot, it's mouth opening and shooting off a net that captured Beast Boy. The head belonging to the other robot that still resided in Robin's hand did the same thing, trapping the Boy Wonder in a net.
A hole opened up in the ceiling, lowering a cannon that shot Cyborg, Starfire and Raven, forcing them to crash against a wall.
Fear and Loathing stepped out of the shadows. Fear looked quite smug. "Well, that was easier than I thought it would be."
TT
Loathing typed in a code that activated the energy wall on Robin's cage, the last of the Titans to be locked away in a device built by Fear and Loathing. Loathing smirked and Fear joined his side.
"Why are you doing this?" Robin asked.
"Why else?" answered Fear. "Because of money. You see, we figured you and your team wouldn't give into our demands. Heroes are typical like that. Instead we decided to trap you all. Once the city finds out we have you they'll give into our demands and we'll be swimming in green."
"And if they don't?" Raven inquired.
"Then we'll sell you all to the highest bidder," Loathing replied.
"And let's not forget none of this would have been possible if we hadn't picked up this little guy," Fear said as she lifted off the sheet that had been covering Silkie's cage.
Starfire gasped. "Silkie!"
Silkie whimpered in his cage.
"I wonder what we should do with it now that it has served it's purpose," mused Fear with a wicked look.
"We'll figure that out later," said Loathing. "Right now we need to contact the mayor so we can get rid of these Titans."
Once Silkie heard this he growled at Loathing. There was no way he could allow such a thing to happen. He began to thrash about in his cage, throwing himself against the side of his cage, forcing it to move towards the end of the table it wsa perched on. Eventually the cage fell, breaking open the door and freeing Silkie. The crash alerted Fear and Loathing, who were by the monitor.
"Hey, just what do you think you're doing," shouted Loathing, advancing upon Silkie. He extended a hand to grab him but Silkie wasn't going to fall for that twice in one day. He jumped up and bit Loathing's hand as hard as he could, causing him to scream out in pain.
"Get it off of me! Get it off of me!" Loathing cried while shaking the hand Silkie was biting down on. "Get it off!"
"I will if you hold still!" Fear complained as she took a small ray gun out of her jacket and fired shots at her partner in crime. The shots missed and left gaping holes in the wall and floor. Eventually Loathing got close to the control panel for the energy fields in his struggle to get Silkie off, and just as Silkie released his hand Fear fired a shot that hit Loathing, forcing him backwards into the control panel. He bit the control panel, accidently activating the deactivation button to the energy fields and releasing the Titans.
Fear took no notice of this as she had finally cornered Silkie. She aimed her weapon at him, ready to fire, but stopped when someone tapped her shoulder. She turned around and was surprised to see Starfire. The alien princess then punched the villain, sending her crashing into a couple of bikes that were lined up together. Silkie wiggled happily at the sight of his master and a smiling Starfire picked him up to cuddle him. The other Titans gathered around and Robin patted the little worm on the head.
"Good job, Silkie."
TT
Returning to Silkie's private room we find him grinning. "And that is the fabulous tale of how I, the great and magnificent Silkie, saved the Teen Titans. I'm sure that after hearing this exciting tale of adventure you want more. Well no worries, there's another story about how I saved the day. It all began on-"
"Silkie? Where are you my precious little bumgorf?"
TT
Switching back to regular reality... Silkie crawled out from behind Starfire's bed. Smiling, Starfire scooped him up. "There you are," she hugged him. "Time for bed."
Placing him on his regular spot on the bed Starfire carefully covered Silkie with a blanket. She then tucked a teddy bear next to him and gave him his goodnight snack which consisted of a chocolate chip cookie that Silkie ate in one bite. Before she turned off the light Silkie looked straight ahead and winked.
