Hakari looks down, confused. She was lying in her bed, fully clothed. Arms wrapped around her waist and head resting on her stomach was a fully clothed Shizuo. His legs hung off the bed awkwardly. Just below his chin, the puppy that Hakari had picked up slept. Soft snores fill the room, coming from both the puppy and Shizuo. Hakari couldn't help but smile sweetly at the scene before her. Oh how she missed Shizuo.
Her hand reaches up, slowly caressing Shizuo's beautiful, blond locks. He shifts closer to her, his grip a bit tighter. This makes Hakari smile even wider. Shizuo's angelic face is beautiful. The cheek that rests against Hakari is pushed up, causing a small amount of drool to drip from Shizuo's mouth. His sunglasses are also tipped forward.
Even his drool was brilliant to her.
"You're going to be the death of me, Shizuo," She whispers, stroking his hair.
Hakari looks to the ceiling. The snores fill her ears, bringing her to peace. This is where she belongs. Not in Ikebukuro, for she hates the city, but with Shizuo.
"If only they'll let me out." She removes her hand from Shizuo's hair, throwing her arm across her eyes. "If only I could truly return."
A soft breeze blows slightly from an open window. Chatter from outside could be heard. The smell of Russian Sushi and Shizuo's cologne mix together, satisfying Hakari's nose. She lied like that for another hour before she was ready to wake Shizuo up.
"Shizuo," She says, gently shaking him. A low groan comes from the sleeping brute. He shifts, sitting up gingerly. The puppy shifts too, making its way towards Hakari. "Good morning, boys."
Shizuo rubs the sleep from his eyes before making eye contact with the woman. He stares hard at her for a few minutes, then he softens his stare and smiles softly at her.
The puppy put his front paws on Hakari's chest, nuzzling her with his head.
"Did you sleep good, boy?" She asks the small creature, nuzzling him right back.
"It's a boy?" Shizuo asks, stroking the puppy's back.
"Yes," Hakari answers.
"You should probably give him a name. Calling a dog 'Puppy' just sounds shitty." Shizuo raises his hands above him, stretching.
"Hey, what happened last night? How did we get back here?" Hakari asks, furrowing her brow at the puppy. Random names float through her mind as she focuses on the creature.
"I don't know. You asked me to stay with you, so I did." Shizuo stares at the two.
"I see. What about the name 'Dog'?" Hakari suggests, referring to the puppy.
"That's even more shitty," Shizuo sighs.
"What do you suggest?" Hakari turns her attention on Shizuo, her eyes beaming with interest. Shizuo gulps, looking away from her.
"How should I know." Hakari laughs, setting the puppy aside and giving shizuo a giant hug.
"I missed you, Shizuo," She says, rubbing her head against his arm. He smiles at her, wrapping his other arm around her.
"You too." The puppy climbs onto Shizuo's lap, licking his clothed arm. A low growl fills the room, not coming from the puppy. Everyone stares towards Hakari's stomach.
"You can't blame me," She blushes. "I haven't eaten since last night." Shizuo shakes his head, then grabs Hakari's hand and pulls her to her feet, knocking the puppy gently on the bed. They leave the bedroom, the pup trailing behind them. Once they reach the living room, they see Shinra's figure sprawled out on the couch, reading the newspaper. He looks up, then gasps.
"Shizuo? What are you doing here?" He asks, jumping from his seat and walking over to the two. His eyes glance down at their hands. Quickly, Shizuo drops Hakari's hand and blushes.
"Leaving," Shizuo mutters, taking long strides towards the door.
"Bye, Shizuo!" Hakari calls, sadness filing through her bones. If only he'd stay.
He just tosses his hand up and waves, not even looking at her. When he was gone, the interrogation started.
"When did you get in?" Shinra asks, slight anger in his voice.
"I don't know," Hakari admits, looking shamefully at the floor.
"Don't you know how worried we were? We thought you left again." Shinra sighs.
"I'm not a teenager, Shinra. Don't worry, I just went to chat with a friend." Hakari gives him a reassuring smile.
"Was Izaya that friend?" He asks, narrowing his eyes at her.
"You talked to Izaya?" She asks, slumping her shoulders. For the first time since they arrived in the living room, the puppy barks, causing Shinra to notice it.
"Yes. He also told me about that," Shinra points towards the puppy, earning a growl. Hakari's stomach growls along with it, causing Shinra to laugh.
"Alright, alright. I'll stop pestering you and let you eat. But, I really want to know about something." Hakari gives him a worried look. She picks up the puppy and follows Shinra to the dining area. He immediately starts cooking.
"So, what is its name?" Shinra asks.
"He doesn't have one. I was going to call him 'Puppy', but Shizuo said no."
"Seems like a good name to me. How about 'Dog'?" Shinra asks, the sound of something frying soaring through the room.
"I suggested that too, but Shizuo said no again."
"Well, he needs a name. I don't mind him staying here, but Celty might have some ground rules," Shinra says.
"Where is Celty at anyway?" Hakari asks, watching Shinra flip something with interest.
"She had a job this morning. Izaya needed her to deliver something."
"That doesn't sound good," Hakari sings, knowing Izaya full well to know he's up to something.
"My thoughts exactly," Shinra chuckles. Finally done cooking, he sets a few plates in front of his friend. Hakari puts the puppy in the seat beside her and starts to chow down. Shinra then sets another plate in front of the puppy. It also began to devour its food.
Once they were done eating, Shinra cleared the table. He sat in front of Hakari, his face serious.
"Hakari," He begins. "I need to know something. Are you in trouble?" This causes Hakari to blush, her eyes widening slightly.
"What time is it?" She asks, changing the subject.
"No, I asked first. Answer my question." Shinra commands.
"I have to meet someone….," Hakari grabs the puppy, standing up.
"Oh no you don't," Shinra says, reaching out to grab Hakari. She dashes away from him, all the way out the door. Shinra sighs dramatically, shaking his head in defeat.
Somehow, Hakari ended up in front of Russian Sushi, breathing heavily.
"Hakari!" Simon calls. "You eat sushi again?" He smiles big, handing a flyer towards her.
"Sorry, I don't want any right now," She smiles, walking away backwards.
"Come back later, then," Simon tells her, already moving on the next customer. Hakari lets out a sigh of relief, turning back around. As she turns, she bumps into someone.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't-" She starts, but stops. In front of her was a woman with short, blonde hair. Her lips spread into a smile. They were pinker than cotton candy. She holds a long sign and notebook hangs around her neck.
"Hi, how are you? Cute pup." The woman greets. She has a thick Russian accent.
"Oh, hi," Hakari says, smiling.
"Why not a write down what you are a look for?" The Russian woman says.
"What I'm...looking for?" Hakari echoes.
"Yes. Deep down in your heart. Go on, write it down." The woman shoves the notebook towards Hakari. Hakari thinks for a second, then scribbles down something.
"No one will find it for me, sadly," She says. "But thank you for allowing me to write it."
"No problem. I hope you a find what you look for," The woman smiles, walking away.
"Me too," Hakari says, watching the woman's figure leave.
"This is the second time I find you muttering to yourself in the middle of the sidewalk," Izaya's voice says, close to Hakari's ear. She turns her head a little, coming face to face with Izaya.
"Oh, Izaya. Hello again. I wasn't muttering to myself, I was talking to the dog," She says.
"Hello, Hakari. Of course you were," Izaya reaches out to pet the pup, but it growls, showing its teeth.
"He really doesn't like you," Hakari states.
"Not everything of yours does. On your way to see Mikado?" He questions.
"No, he's probably still in school," Hakari says, looking up towards the sun. "It looks pretty early still."
"It is," Izaya says. "So, what will you do in the mean time?"
"Well, I can't go see Shizuo if you decide to hang around me today," She says sadly. This causes Izaya to laugh loudly.
"Don't let me stop you. I don't mind playing a game of chase with Shizu-chan before we meet Mikado."
"If he plays chase with you, then me and the puppy won't be able to talk to him," Hakari sighs.
"How right you are," Izaya smiles. "I guess I"ll let you have your fun with the monster. I'll just go wander around."
"You're stirring something up again, aren't you?" Hakari asks, turning completely towards the man now, angry he called Shizuo a monster.
"I don't know what you mean," Izaya smirks.
"Sure. Just don't let anyone actually get killed this time."
"No promises~," Izaya sings. "I don't care if someone gets offed in the battle. My bet is on Shizuo." He turns around, walking away from Hakari, humming a tune.
Hakari clenches her fists, narrowing her eyes towards Izaya. Izaya can't kill Shizuo, She tells herself. Don't worry. He was just trying to cause trouble.
With that, Hakari unclenches her fists and smiles.
"That's right," She tells the dog in her arms. "Shizuo is the strongest."
Turning back around, Hakari begins to walk again, but bumps into someone again.
"I'm so sorry," Hakari apologizes, looking up. Before her stood a tall man with dreadlocks, dark shades hiding his eyes. He smiles at Hakari.
"Oh, Tom-san," Hakari says.
"Please, just Tom," He says. "What are you up to?" He pets the puppy, and to both their surprise, it doesn't growl.
"Looking for Shizuo," The woman says, peering behind Tom. Shizuo's not there. "He's not with you," Hakari frowns.
"No, he doesn't work today. He's probably walking around the city. Or he might be in the park," Tom says, rubbing his chin.
"Thank you!" Hakari exclaims, maneuvering past Tom. She runs towards the closest park, holding the dog tighter.
When they arrive, Shizuo is no where to be seen.
Hakari sets down the dog, searching the park with her eyes. The dog wanders a little ways ahead of her, but never straying too far. Hakari falls to the ground, sitting cross-legged. The puppy starts chasing a small butterfly around in circles, causing Hakari to smile.
About ten minutes later, a loud horse sound could be heard. Looking around, Hakari spots a motorcycle, its rider dressed in black. Guilt and fear creep over the girl as the rider makes her way towards Hakari. The pup joined Hakari's side, hiding behind her leg. The rider jumps off the bike and races over to the pair. Celty looks down at the dog before starting to type on her PDA.
What are you doing here?
"Looking for Shizuo," Hakari says.
Oh, I see. Same. I was going to ask him where you were, but I guess I don't need to anymore.
Hakari looks away, ashamed. Suddenly, the dog put his paws on Celty's leg, rubbing his head against it. Hakari smiles, looking at Celty with hopeful eyes.
It's cute, but we can't keep him at our house. Find a new home for him.
Hakari's heart drops at Celty's words.
"I understand," Hakari whispers, looking down at the pup. He was looking back at her, tongue falling out of his mouth.
I know it'll be hard, but try. Celty types. She then pulls Hakari into a hug, crushing her insides.
"What's wrong, Celty?" Hakari asks, hugging the rider back. The two finally separate after minutes of embracing.
We thought you left again….
Hakari pats Celty's helmet.
"I'm here," She says, sadness in her voice.
The puppy left Celty's leg and began running away from the two, making Hakari gasp.
"Wait, Puppy!" She calls, running after him. A tall man bends down and scoops the dog up, causing Hakari to stop. Shizuo!
"Yo," He says, making his way to the women.
Hello, Celty types. Are you working today?
"Nah, I'm off today and decided to visit the park. Didn't expect to find you guys here, though."
Celty lifts her PDA, typing something to Shizuo. He reads it, but Hakari can't focus on what he replies. All she focuses on is the fact that he's here. He's right here in front of her. Before last night, she never dreamed of having him this close to her again. He's literally a few feet. She could reach out and grab if him she wants too..
So she did.
She reaches her hand out, snatching onto Shizuo's sleeve. He gives her a curious look, bringing Hakari back to reality.
"Ah," She blushes. She swipes at his sleeve, dropping her hand back to her side. "There was...a butterfly on you." Hakari looks away as Celty's shoulders shake with laughter. Shizuo stares at her, a smile on his face.
Mikado walks on the sidewalk, dreading each step. School has just ended, and in less than an hour he was to have talk with Hakari-san and Orihara Izaya.
He decides to walk around the city, letting time pass. He doesn't want it to pass quickly, but he also doesn't want to spend the time worrying. Looking at the ground, Mikada walks forward, bumping into someone.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you!" He panics, looking up at his victim.
"No, sorry. Write down what you miss?" It was a blonde woman with pink lips. She was holding a sign that read "Lost Objects".
"What I miss?" Mikado asks.
"Yes. What you miss, down in your heart."
"In my heart? Well...I… Can I look at that for a second?" Mikado points to a notebook hanging around the woman's neck.
"Okay!" She nods and hands it to him. Mikado smiles at her before looking through it. He was surprised at how many people actually wrote things down. The things varied from a famous actor, to a cat, to even meeting up with someone.
Mikado flips the notebook page, coming across one that gives him goosebumps.
"Head"
Shaking his own head, he turns the page.
"Redemption"
Mikado contemplates the last one before writing down his own missing object. He hands the sign back and looks at his watch. He has time to spare, so he continues to walk around the city.
Mikado looks around, smiling. Dancers dancing around, color gangs hanging out in small groups, and just regular people walking by...this was his home now.
His eyes widen as he catches sight of a certain someone standing on a street corner, holding a puppy. Beside her was Heiwajima Shizuo holding a sign. Mikado gulps as the girl notices him, waving him over frantically.
"Mikado!" She yells, smiling a brilliant smile. He gulps once more as he makes his way towards her, trembling. Shizuo is over there…
"Mikado! What are you doing here?" She asks. They were isolated, Mikado realizes. People walk pass them, as if there were an invisible force field creating a bubble around the three people.
"J-Just..walking around. W-What are you doing?" Mikado stutters.
Hakari looks down at the dog in her hands. It was growling at everyone that seemed to look at it.
"We're trying to find this puppy a new home," She explains, pointing towards the sign that Shizuo was holding.
It read, "The cutest puppy in the world needs a new home!"
"For some reason," Hakari continues, looking sadly at the dog. "No one even wants to come near us. The puppy is even growling adorably at everyone."
"That might be the problem…" Mikado says. Hakari rubs the puppy's face against her own, giving Mikado a confused look.
"What do you mean?" She asks.
"N-Nevermind. The other problem might also...uh well...be…" He trails off, pointing to Shizuo. Hakari follows his finger, looking lovingly at Shizuo.
Said man was gripping the edge of a bench in frustration. He was angry that no one wants the dog. This kid's stuttering made him even more angry. His grip on the bench tightens, causing it to fall off. He looks at the bench part in his hand, getting more angry.
Shizuo throws it at a tree, causing bark to fly up everywhere. He then pulls out a cigarette, taking his sunglasses off and resting them on his shirt. Hakari's hand-made sign falls to the ground, forgotten.
"Isn't Shizuo even more handsome when he takes his sunglasses off?" Hakari asks, turning her attention back to Mikado.
He gives her a confused look.
Is she really..not afraid of him? Mikado asks himself.
"Since you're here, let's go ahead and talk," Hakari says, nudging the puppy towards Shizuo. "Shizuo, I'm going with Mikado for a bit. Can you watch the puppy?"
Shizuo grunts before tucking the puppy under his arm.
"Bye, Shizuo," Hakari whispers, giving him a side hug. He lifts his hand and pats her head, then he takes off, sucking his cigarette. Hakari links arms with Mikado and begins to lead him to Russian Sushi.
"Maybe we'll be able to talk without Izaya, since he doesn't know we're starting early.".
"W-Won't he be angry, though?" Mikado asks.
"Probably," Hakari grins, gripping onto Mikado tighter.
"Oh, I'll be furious," A voice says from behind them. They both turn to see Izaya.
"Why do you always pop out from nowhere, Izaya?" Hakari asks, smiling.
"Because it's fun," Izaya says, putting an arm around Mikado's shoulders. Izaya pulls him away from Hakari, taking the lead. The woman links her arm with Izaya, this time, glaring at him slightly. She couldn't let what he said earlier slide.
The three sat in a private room at Russian Sushi. Mikado a mess, Hakari annoyed, and Izaya having a blast.
"So," Izaya smirks. "Shall we start?"
If you see any mistakes, feel free to point them out! I'll try to fix them as soon as possible!
