cherry blossom pink
[cherry blossom pink,
azure skies and pastel blue,
this is where we meet.]
i remember how i
pushed through the tall grass
like i was a hunter searching
for my prey.
(gaze clear, tail low,
mind shifting between the chips
of sky and ruffling leaves.)
you remember how i
would stutter when i didn't know
what else to say, because
(oh, breath-taking in the least)
you'd throw your head back,
laugh—i smiled too,
and i was so convinced
we were the most beautiful sound.
you remember how we(?)
sat where the flipped-over sky met the shore
and we stared into the blue-green
water.
my pelt growing hot, your tail entwined with
mine. then the ripples would
sink anything that could've been (but we hoped,
didn't we?)
like pebbles that never had dreams anyway.
today i sat by the shore again,
i looked into that same place again,
with the same eyes and the same sky behind me.
[cherry blossom pink,
faded skies and pastel grey,
this was where we used to meet.]
