Sorry about the delay in writing another chapter! This past year has been rough, to say the least.
Chapter 2: Metalware?
Not knowing weather or not she should trust Levi, and his mischievous ways, Cath poked and prodded questions towards Levi; although, Levi, being Levi, would not budge and Cath was just going to have to wait, which frustrated her to the point of silence. At the next stoplight, while they were stopped, Levi reached over towards Cath and stuck his hand out for her to grab it. Relenting, she grabbed his hand and laced her fingers with him.
"Cath," Levi repetitively whispered in Cath's ear until she awoke a few seconds later.
"Ya"
"Take a look around, what do ya think, Cathers," Levi sometimes liked to call Cath, Cathers because, well he is Levi. Complying with his request, Cath peered out her window to find herself at a vineyard. Where she later spotted the old picnic basket Levi's mother had given him, and her heart melted at the sight of it.
"LEVI," she screemed, but in such a charismatic way, "you remembered?" a few days prior to this picnic, Cath had mentioned to Levi that she had never been on a picnic in her life, and would love to try it out sometime.
"Of course," he said with his head held low, as if he were scared she did not like him, "how could I forget?"
"Aweeeeeee," small tears started to form in the crevasses' of her eyes right when she noticed Levi outside her window opening the door for her to exit his truck.
He stuck his hand out, and she grabbed back. He lead her all the way to the top of the hill, where the scene of the vineyard is the best, and started to unpack the picnic basket. When he finished, it was an unbelievable sight; so delicately dressed with lacy placemats and silverware of the finest of metals (lol yes, Levi could not afford real silverware, so instead he went with "metalware"). "Please sit," he proposed as he motioned towards the pillow he had laid out for Cath.
"Levi, you know you didn't have to do all this. I would have been happy with a trip to McDonalds. As long as you were with me! This is way to much; I don't need all this," she said with hesitation.
At that Levi started to show signs of irritation, "Well, you're the one who proposed this grand idea that 'you have been dreaming of forever'. I took the entire day off for you, I thought you would appreciate this!"
"It's not that I don't appre—," is all Cath could get out before Levi interrupted her.
"Of course, it's just that it was too out of the blue! Cath you need to start living a little, take risks!"
"Levi, it's fine! I love what you have done; I'm not denying you of what you have done!"
"No your not denying me of what I have done, rather my pride as being your boyfriend. Why do you have to make this so complicated…"
And that is was broke Cath's last string and she started sobbing immensely into her sleeve.
With guilt pinging in his mind, Levi couldn't take it; he did not mean what he said, it was out of anger. And with that he caressed her shoulder, pulled her to his chest, and whispered in her ear, "hey, please listen. I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't mean it. I hope you know that. I hope you know that you mean the world to me and I am not just saying that. I planed this lunch so we could spend more time together. I thought it would be nice since it is what you had been dreaming of, and it was secluded. So we could do … anything we please. It's just when you said that it was way too much. It broke me, and I didn't know how to comprehend it. And for that I am deeply sorry… Forgiven?"
With sadness drenching Cath's eyes, she nuzzled her head deeper into his crest and squeezed his shirt, as a sign of forgiveness. "Sorry," she mumbled, so soft Levi almost missed it, but he heard it, and she knew he did because in that moment he squeezed her tighter, like he feared she was never going to come back.
"Come on Levi, lest feast," Cath said while half chuckling, half chocking on her semidried tears. She reached the basket to get a sandwich, but before Levi could stop her, she pulled out a tiny blue velour box. Questioning it she glanced deviously at Levi while raising her eyebrows in a seductive way, "Levi?"
"Oh… a… ya… it's not what you think it is. Well it is actually, but… oh I guess I'll tell you now," with hesitance, he slowly began to explain, "well, that is why I brought you up here, I wanted to propose, but not for marriage. Propose to a exclusive relationship, a promise ring." Glancing down at her hands, he grabbed the box from her hand and opened it and flashed it to her. Inside was a beautiful, small stone set on a gold band. The stone was her birthstone. "So a ya, do ya wanna?"
Cath was left, speechless, which does not happen often, but I guess today is an exception. The only way she could answer was to stick out her hand, and he ever so lightly held her hand and slid the ring on. "It's a perfect fit…," is all she could muster.
Levi gently stroked the back of her head and kissed her jaw-line, all the way to her cheek, then back down to her nose, making a clear path to her mouth. Although, Cath was so excited she went for all the marbles before Levi had the chance, and planted a good one on his lips. "Now… Let's FEAST!" He said while reaching into the basket for the bottle of cheap champagne (he tried, he could not afford quality champagne right now, but Cath knew he had good intensions) he bought.
After they finished their glasses of champagne (one glass was enough for each, neither are particularly intrigued by alcohol). They laid together, their limbs entangled in one another, while staring up at the sky.
When they were done, gazing at the clear blue sky, Levi packed their basket up, and motioned for Cather to fit into his arm as they walk together down the hill. Eventually, they made their way back to his truck and by that time it was half past four, time to head home. He placed the basket in the bed of his truck, and opened the door for Cath to insert herself into her seat. Levi then reached over and buckled her in, and on his way back gave her a kiss, and whispered in her ear, "I love you, everything about you." He closed the door after him, letting that his words marinate in her ear until her reached the other side of the truck and hopped in his seat. He buckled himself up, and asked Cath, "Ready?"
"Ready for what?" She looked very confused.
"Ready for another adventure?"
"To where?"
"Reality…"
"No," the more she thought about reality, the sadder she got. She wanted their little fantasy moment, even though there was a rough patch at the beginning, to still be their little fantasy forever.
"Live a little," he said with a joking grin, "turn that frown rightside up and smile… a little!"
