Chapter 6 - The Kiss
Walking off into the distance, Dipper tries to explain. "So, I think my uncle actually stole from my wallet. I mean, I had at least ten more dollars in there last night, and I don't remember buying anything at your party..."
"It's fine, don't worry."
"Yeah, it's kind of funny, for a moment there I totally forgot you were rich," He pauses for a moment, "I still would've paid though!"
She nudges his arm with a playful punch, "Relax, Dipper. Don't worry about it!"
She grabs hold of his hand, which he certainly doesn't resist, though his mind is going bonkers.
Sitting on a ledge, they take in the scenery on the horizon, kicking their legs back and forth.
"So," Dipper begins, stuttering subtly, "Why me?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, we're like, polar opposites. And it seems like we've always hated each other."
"That's it though, Dipper. Everyone else either hated me because they were jealous or fawned over me like I was some sort of goddess. It's not like I'm any better than anyone else just because I'm rich. But I got so used to everyone acting like that, I couldn't help but join in. Everyone else was too focused on what I was to notice who I was. You, though, you saw who I was on the inside and recognized that there was something wrong. I needed someone like you to show me that."
"So," Dipper teased her, "You like me because I had a legitimate reason to hate you...?"
Laughing, she playfully punched his arm, though this one hurt a little more than the last one. "Yeah, something like that." He tries not to let her notice, but he holds his arm in pain.
After a few moments of looking at the horizon, Pacifica resumed conversation.
"This has been nice, Dipper."
"Really?"
"Yeah. All my other boyfriends have been set up by my parents."
"Heh, I wish I was that lucky."
"I beg your pardon?"
"Well you're uh... I um..."
"Oh yeah, Mabel told me. You've never done this before! I'm your first girlfriend, aren't I?"
Dipper smiles and his eyes widen. "Girlfriend?"
"Sure, why not? I've had more fun with you than any boy my parents have set me up with, hands down!"
"Oh, uh... heh heh". His words turn into nervous laughter as he scratches the back of his head for a moment.
Pacifica has a revelation.
"So... You've never kissed a girl, have you?"
"I've, uh... never had a girlfriend. Didn't Mabel tell you this... On the phone...?"
Pacifica tries to bring the conversation back to where she was trying to lead it.
"But you've never... kissed a girl... Right?"
Dipper looks increasingly nervous, his gaze upon Pacifica's face as her lips approach his.
"How's this?" She asks, and they both embrace each other.
Yet their lips didn't meet; their faces resisted one another like two magnets with the same charge. It was as if some supernatural being was playing a prank on them. They could hear a faint cackle, increasing in volume by the second. They opened their eyes to see a thin layer of blinding neon yellow in between their faces, and begin to notice that time had paused around them. By this point the cackle was so loud it was unmistakable. They both pushed themselves back out of fear. Guess what? Ladies and gentlemen, Bill Cipher has entered the picture!
