That Vanilla Milkshake Girl chapter eighteen – Retrouvailles

It was a sunny afternoon in Tokyo, and like an opera, it was filled with the peaceful tune of the birds flying by, occasionally accompanied by the whispering of the wind. The aria of this passive opera consists of the constant bustling of cars and buses passing by, truly a part of Tokyo no one would forget.

…Enough of that. This is a crack fic anyways.

The Interhigh Champioship was concluded that afternoon, and Rakuzan emerged as the victors. Kise had to leave before the start of the fourth quarter due to changes of his schedule, so Yuri was under the custody of the other miracles at the moment.

The colourful lot spent the rest of their afternoon in a coffee shop, a walk's distance away from the Tokyo Stadium. The location was quite secluded so the shop's not too crowded, perfect for an afternoon tea (coffee?) time.

All of this was Kagami's idea.

Hopefully, his friends were able to pick up what he wanted to do with the current situation and to his surprise, nobody protested. (So this is Kise against everybody, huh?)

If you were not able to have a clear grasp of the present situation with the clues above, they were actually trying to get Kuroko and Yuri together, alone, for them to, uhm, talk or something? If you were with Kuroko with the past few years, you'd understand why these lot resort to drastic measures just for them to have some, you know, clarity? Closure? Whatever.

Kuroko had been worst during the days following their breakup. He barely ate, (It was quite worrisome because Kuroko was not a heavy eater to begin with.) and he rarely talked and spaced out at basketball practices, which was very unlikely of him.

It was also the period when Kagami saw a different version of his best friend, the one who let his guard down and the one who let other people see his emotions. For a usually expressionless boy, it was really atypical. It was the time when he let his emotions get to him and bring him to depths of despair.

(There was one time when Kuroko broke down during a one-on-one with Kagami. Of course, he never told anyone.)

Back to present, everyone was in possession of their desired drinks and confections, courtesy of Akashi Seijurou, thank you very much. There was suddenly nothing to talk about, and Kagami was unsure whether it's because of Kise's absence or Kuroko and Yuri's awkwardness. When someone's going to try to open a conversation up, it just felt awkward. Only Murasakibara's comments on his food were the only this that keeps them from drowning in the sea of silence.

…until a cellphone rang. It was Midorima's.

He stood up in a stiff manner, obviously not getting the hang of the awkwardness, but still maintained his composure.

"I have to leave now, nanodayo. Apparently, my old basketball team will be having an impromptu reunion later nodayo." He smoothed the wrinkles on his clothes. "I'll be taking my leave."

He turned his back to them and aimed for the exit after the chorus of goodbyes reverberated in the café.

Cue in awkward silence part two…

"Oh shit."

What a great way to break the silence, Ahomine.

"Satsuki's going to kill me! I'd better get going!"

Cue in awkward silence part three…

"Hello? Muro-chin? Yes, I'm in Tokyo. You want me to come over your place? Mmkay. As long as you have snacks there."

The purple titan giant stood up and brushed crumbs off his shirt and waved goodbye to his friends.

Cue in awkward silence part four…

"Pardon me, but I have to go. I have to leave before the sun sets. It's hard to maneuver a chopper in the dark, you see. Good bye."

Akashi, you rich, spoiled brat.

Cue in awkward silence part five…

"Crap! I gotta leave, Kuroko! Alex wanted me to call her on skype at 5 pm. See you!"

With that, Kagami sprinted off, leaving Kuroko and Yuri alone.

Good luck, Kuroko. It's your chance.

Since Kuroko became the sixth phantom man, his expertise was to observe everything around him. He knew once and for all that his friends had really left the two of them alone on purpose. He was quite astonished as to how his friends planned this without him or Yuri 'knowing'.

"They left us alone…" Kuroko heard Yuri say as she sipped her milk tea.

"They did." was his only response.

Cue in awkward silence part six…

"Would this be the time that you'll say that 'I have to go because I need to feed Nigou or something?'" Yuri asked, with a hint of exasperation in her voice,

Kuroko laughed. He found it funny, and boy, it had been ages since he felt that bubbly feeling inside him creeping to his senses. It was relieving, really.

"I'm not sure about that part."

"So…" It was evident that Yuri was trying so hard to ease the awkwardness. "How are you?"

"I'd be lying if I say that I'm good. My life's okay, I guess." Kuroko responded with an expression so hard to decipher. "How about you?"

"Being an idol took its toll on my body. I lost some weight, and my agency hinders me from eating my heart out!" she said with a pout drawn on her lips.

Kuroko chuckled softly, "Would you mind going for a walk?"

The duo ended up strolling in a park nearby the basketball court where Kagami and Kuroko usually practiced during their high school days. Kuroko was actually surprised that Yuri agreed to come with him, even though he caused quite the misery in her life.

As the two continued walking around the park, under the shade of evergreen trees, Kuroko felt the air between them slowly easing up. It was just like those times they shared before; no one would talk for hours, just enjoying the presence of the other.

Kuroko smiled at the thought.

"What are you thinking about?" Yuri asked as she noticed the smile that graced Kuroko's lips.

"I'm sorry…"

"What," Yuri halted her walking pace, "is the connection of your declaration to my question?"

"That's what I have been thinking. I'm sorry for what I've done. I think you know what I-"

"Please don't bring that up. Please." Yuri bit her lip. Kuroko's features were branded with guilt.

"If you say so…"

They continued on walking.

"Are you happy with her?" she asked, almost in a whisper.

"I do not know if the state of my wellbeing can be considered as happy right now, and I do not know who you are talking about."

Yuri glared at him. "The one you were dating after I flew to South Korea!"

."She doesn't exist, I'm afraid."

"What in the world are you talking about?"

"It's your choice if you're going to believe me or not, but that was just some lame excuse to break up with you. Apparently, your father does not exactly approve of a mediocre lad like me."

Yuri's expression was in the middle of anger, counfusion, and relief. "Why didn't you say so?! Look, I should've done something to-"

"I didn't want you to hate your father because of me. I'm sorry."

They stared at each other for a while.

"You know, I'm not handling this very well."

She walked away.
