okay I'm testing new software on my phone for typing so this chapter may be shorter than normal and to prevent as much confusion for me instead of how many years later or ago I'm just going to put Amethyst's age as the chapter title.
Chapter 6: Amethyst Age 3
"Mama? When is train getting here?" Amethyst asked jumping in Weiss' arms excited for her first train journey to Vollen. "The sign says it should be here soon... where is your Mommy and brother by the way?" Weiss calmly asked already knowing the most likely answer.
"Mommy said she was going to get hot coco and Sangie said he should go to make sure nothing bad happens." Amethyst said reciting off what Ruby and Sanguine told her. Before Weiss could question further Sanguine came walking up with Ruby holding a tray of cups in one hand and Sanguine's hand in the other.
"Here you go Weiss I got you a raspberry white hot chocolate." Ruby said letting go of Sanguine's hand and passed Weiss one of the cups. "And Amethyst gets a small strawberry cookie dough hot chocolate." Ruby continued handing Amethyst the smallest of the cups who happily took it. "Sanguine gets the hazelnut hot chocolate." She said handing him another one. "And let me guess Ruby because I know you a bit too well you got the same as Amethyst because it has everything you like." Weiss said and was responded with Ruby nodding her head.
"Thank you Mommy." Amethyst said before she took a sip. She instantly pulled her head back from the cup. "Owie I hurt my tongue." Amethyst said.
"Sweetie, you should know it is hot. Want me to blow on it?" Weiss asked the small Faunus girl in her arms. "Pwease..." the purple haired girl in her arms said. Weiss gave Ruby her cup to hold and brought Amethyst's cup up and blew cooling it off a bit.
Ruby handed back the cup and Weiss just looked at her. "Ruby... by any chance did you take a drink? After all this feels a little bit lighter." Weiss asked already knowing the answer was a 'yes' due to Ruby avoiding eye contact and by the fact she also found the celling very interesting.
"You Dolt I would have given you some if you asked." Weiss said laughing. "Well do you want some of mine?" Ruby asked as she brought the cup up to Weiss who nodded and took a sip.
"Dear deities that be, that is overly sweet." Weiss said taken aback by the over whelming dance of sugar on her tongue. "But it is sooo good, Mama." Amethyst added defending Ruby from Weiss' arms. Before Weiss could comment further the train to Vollen pulled up. It was just three cars. It was small because most people didn't take the train to Vollen, 10 hours confined compared to a three hour airplane trip.
Amethyst continued to jump excited that the train arrived. As the stepped into the front car Weiss and Ruby both noticed that it was empty except for Weiss' parents sat talking to each other. Amethyst started to jump even more if that was even possible. "Yay Nana is here too!" Amethyst gleeful shouted alerting the other two.
"Mother, Father... What are you two doing here? I thought you would have flew." Weiss asked setting Amethyst down who ran straight into eldest female Schnee, forgetting about the small cup of hot chocolate. "Your sister's boyfriend suggested we take the train so we could spend longer with our grandchildren... also your father pissed him off. On a brighter note because I insisted on traveling with him, Michael did buy all of the carriage." Weiss' Mom, Edelweiss spoke with the sophistacation that came naturally to her.
"Hi Mrs. Schnee..." Ruby sheepishly said still terrified of Weiss' parents. "Ruby we have been over this before call me Edelweiss or Mom. As long as you keep my daughter and grandchildren happy you can drop the formalities." The elder female Schnee said.
"I don't know it just seems wrong... you are my Mother-in-law and such." Ruby said trying to hide a bit behind Weiss not looking into her Dad's sulking face. "Well I'm sure my husband will say if he ever stops sulking he prefers you to that lovely young man Winter is dating." Edelweiss said bouncing Amethyst on her knee.
"Say where is my grandson? If he doesn't come over and give me a hug I'll give him a book instead of what I already have for him for christmas." Edelweiss said stopping a bit. "But I like bookies." Sanguine said walking up and giving her a hug.
"There you go... and what little boy likes bookies?" She asked a bit skeptically. "The same one who has skipped multiple grades and is on course to being the youngest person every to enter Beacon." Sanguine said peeling himself away from the hug and taking a seat next to his Nana.
"I forgot that you have skipped some... and promise me you wont turn out like your parents." She said trying to be as strict as she could. "What have a loving and lasting relationship from their days in school? Or are you talking ab-..." Sanguine was silenced by Ruby putting her hand over his mouth.
"She doesn't mean not finding your true love just wait to do things." Ruby said letting go and taking a seat. "I don't get what you mean?" Sanguine began but was silenced again but this time from Weiss
"You will one day but remember if I ever get a call from you and a girl saying you messed up I'm going to kill you." Weiss spoke with the and strictness but loving only a parent can use. "I still don't understand you but I'm trusting you mother." Sanguine said and pulled out them a book he started to read.
"No I mean I don't want him to have Se-..." Edelweiss began but was cut off by Weiss. "Mother I will not have this conversation with my son or daughter for hopefully a few years but certainly not today." Weiss said seriously and starring down her own mother.
"Grandfather you look sad do you want some of my hot chocolate to make you feel better." Amethyst asked getting up from her Nana and offered the old man her cup. He looked at her and soften up a bit and took the cup and took a small sip.
"Thank you Amiee that makes me feel better." The elder Schnee said handing Amethyst back her cup. "Come here and we can watch the scenery go by." He said gesturing to his lap and she took the offered seat.
She watched it with him for at most twenty minuets before the war waged with her eyelids was fought and lost. She fell asleep on his lap and soft taking was heard amongst her steady breath. Sanguine yawned and rested his head on Edelweiss' lap and soon he too lost the age old fight against his eyelids.
"How are they asleep so fast? They have been on the train for a small bit." Edelweiss spoke slowly stroking Sanguine's hair. "They both get so excited before we take a trip anywhere because it is the only time both Ruby and myself are off and we can be together as a family." Weiss said resting her head on Ruby's shoulder.
"So they stayed up all night and the hot chocolate I gave them sort of pushed them over the edge and made them tired." Ruby finished staring out of the window. The train ride was uncommonly quiet with both Sanguine and Amethyst sleeping, for the four adults the trip was common and enjoyable.
About nine hours into the trip Sanguine woke up and stretched, he looked around and noticed everyone except his Nana asleep. She just continued to stroke his hair and hummed an old Atlasian melody. She had a book that she was reading.
"That song sounds beautiful Nana." Sanguine said looking up at her and she suddenly stopped. "Sorry Sanguine I didn't realise you were awake." She said apologetically.
"Don't stop please... Mother always hums that when Amiee or I fell asleep. She never would tell us what the song is about though." Sanguine said urging her to continue. "The song is about a girl who was unsure on how she felt, eventually she feels like she is the loneliest of all. Weiss actually sings a lovely version of it." She almost sung continuing to run her fingers through his locks.
"Mother only sings to us when we are sick. She sings a very old song... so old it probably hasn't been translated from Atlasian." Sanguine began enjoying the quite conversation, only for it to be broken by Weiss.
"It is the same song you used to sing to Winter and me." Weiss quietly spoke startling her mother a bit who was focused on her book. "Winter and I always said that if we had children we would sing them that song." Weiss said resting Ruby's head on her lap.
"We should almost be there. You should wake her up instead. I'll wake up your father." Edelweiss said letting Sanguine up. Sanguine got up and walked to the bathroom. Weiss reached down and shook Ruby who wrapped her arms around Weiss.
Weiss smile instantly became villainous, she leaned down and whispered "Ruby... some man is trying to kidnap our children." Before she could pull her head back Ruby was on her feet getting ready to fight. After a quick assessment of the situation Ruby turned around and gave a half hearted glare at Weiss.
"Jeez Princess if you want to give me a heart attack that bad tell me you are cheating on me with Yang." Ruby said clutching her chest. Weiss through out this just began to laugh. "You think I would lower my standards too the point that brute is appealing?" Weiss asked in between laughs.
"Probably why it would work so well." Ruby said, Edelweiss ignoring what was going on reached over and nudged her husband's shoulder whom instantly woke up. He began attempting to wake the sleeping Faunus on his lap.
Amethyst turned around in his lap and burrowed her head into the space between his shoulder and his neck and wrapped her arms around him. He began to glare at her but instantly stopped when he felt two angrier glares directed at him.
He looked up and saw Weiss and Ruby stop and glare at him. "Father I don't care what ever hatred you have towards others but I'm not sure if I made this clear. If you try anything to Amethyst, Sanguine or the Dolt known as my wife I will remove all visitation you have with them." Weiss said it so cold even her dad felt a chill.
"Well then can you get her up?" He asked unsure and never met Weiss' gaze. Ruby moved over and pried Amethyst's arms off of her grandfather and picked her up.
"We should be there in a few minutes the weather has already turned to torrential rainfall." Ruby said trying to ease the unintentional tension that was building up. "Yeah, so who do you think will be there to pick us up?" Edelweiss asked trying to make the last few seconds more pleasant.
"Knowing Michael he did something stupid after Father and him fought. So Winn needs a break from him so my money is on her." Weiss said gentle scratching behind Amethyst's ear. Sanguine stepped out of the bathroom yawning and resumed his seat next to Edelweiss.
"Hey Sanguine, honey can you see who is going to collect us at the train station?" Ruby asked in a gentle tone. "Yes I could but with the his previous track record it is going to be Auntie Winter." Sanguine said resuming his book that he almost forgot about.
"That is exactly what Princess said but I just want to be sure." Ruby said defending her point. Sanguine opened his left eye and looked off. "It is Auntie Winter." Sanguine said returning his attention back to the book. Weiss bore a grin thrice in size because she knew she was right and Ruby doubted her.
As the train began the arduous process of coming to a complete stop Amethyst began to shake and cry softly. Ruby and Weiss both shocked began to gentle shake her awake. When her eyes opened she latched onto Ruby and cried. "Whats wrong Sweetie? Is it a bad dream?" Ruby asked her voice laced full of concern.
Amethyst didn't respond with words but nodded her head in the crock of Ruby's shoulder. "Do you want to tell me and your mother what it was about so we can help you?" Ruby asked earning a small 'no' from her.
"Sweetie we can't help you if you don't talk about it." Weiss said stroking her hair. "Just don't let the Beowolves get me Mommy." Amethyst said in between sobs.
"Your mother and m- I mean your mother and I would never let them touch you if we can help it." Ruby said gently bouncing her up and down in her arms. Slowly the sobs died out and Ruby turned to Weiss and mouthed the words 'We need to talk about it to someone.' Weiss responded with a nod of approval.
