Chapter Sixteen
Mad House
"Where you going?" Jason asked standing in the kitchen, clad in a simple pair of checkered boxers eat the last of their Fruit Loops as Brittany piled things into an over sized duffel bag.
"Dance. I'm just packing clothes to change into later before we go to the fair. Do you think I can get a ride?" Brittany asked pulling her thick long golden hair into a tight bun.
"What fair? You never mentioned going to a fair. Who are you going with and do I have to put pants on to take you?" He raised and eyebrow shoveling another large scoop of breakfast food into his over sized mouth. Brittany rolled her eyes. She loved Jason more than the world, but sometimes she wanted to strangle him.
"I told you about a thousand times, I'm going to the fair with Roman, Santana, and Noah this afternoon. It's in Columbus so we wont be back until late. Don't try and tell me I can't go because you already said it's fine and I'm not flaking out again." Brittany huffed. "No, not unless you plan on getting out of the car. I just rather not walk two miles through the snow this morning."
Jason took a seat at their sparse kitchen table with a wily smirk on his features. It was only a few days into winter break and already she felt trapped in their small two bedroom apartment.
"Little Lo is going, huh? That sounds like fun." His eyes glinted at her curiously.
"Don't start Jace, seriously. Santana is my friend. That's it." Brittany folded her arms and shot a dirty look at her brother.
"Sure just friends who happen to do a little tongue tango now and then. No shame baby sis. The Lopez siblings are both hot. I can't decide if I'm more jealous or proud at this point. "
"Seriously you're going to bring that up again? You're such an ass sometimes. Yes, Santana and I made out a few times, but it didn't mean anything to her. She was just being curious, besides she's dating Puck and I'm with Roman. I'm in love with Roman, okay? There isn't anything going on. We're best friends and we're happy that way." Brittany snapped. She had sworn to herself never to tell Santana's secrete, but her brother always seemed to know things without needing to be told. He was smart that way.
"Love is a funny thing baby sis. In my experience the people who are the most in love don't need to tell anyone they're in love, you can just see it in their eyes. You and Roman are a pretty hot ticket, but I wouldn't call it love. " Jason smiled and lifted his bowl to his lips and drained the milk inside.
"And what would you know about love? You've never dated anyone for longer then it takes to get what you want and get out." Brittany was starting to get frustrated. She didn't need her brother of all people telling her how to handle her relationships. The situation with Santana and Roman was hairy enough as is.
"I know I love you and I don't need to say it for anyone to know I'd beat their ass for messing with you." He said sincerely making Brittany turn away uncomfortably.
Jason was all she had in the world, even though they argued like any brother and sister would, they loved each other endlessly.
"Santana is obviously struggling and I just don't appreciate you making things harder for her then they have to be." She murmured changing the subject.
"She's smitten with you, you're smitten with her, what's hard about that? Anyone who doesn't like it can go jump in the lake. I think you're the one struggling and you're using Santana's problems as an excuse to play it safe." Jason stood and tossed his bowl in the sink, running a little water over it as Brittany's brooding began to boil over.
"I am not smitten with her..." Brittany blatantly denied, scoffing and rolling her eyes at her brother's outrageous accusation. "and—and-you know what? Think what you want, because it doesn't matter anymore. Santana call off what ever was going on with us almost three weeks ago and we've never been better since."
Brittany slung her bag over her shoulder waiting for her brother to grab the keys to the car so they could go, hoping he didn't question her on the topic further. Things with Santana had been pleasantly awkward ever since Roman confessed his love. The two had made it a point to still hang out, but they never talked about overly personal things nor did they sit together at the lunch tables.
At home Santana would make sure there was at least three feet of space between them on the couch at all times. She called it being respectful of Brittany's relationship, but it felt more like the Berlin Wall- which Brittany had just learned about. Santana always made sure to bring Noah anytime a hang out seemed a little too intimate for friends, which obligated Brittany to bring Roman so as not to be the third wheel.
The trip to Columbus had been planned in the same way. Impulsively Santana had invited Brittany to go, but as the week wore on more people had been added to the list of invites making the whole thing less special then before. Now half the glee club was attending as well, in separate cars of course.
"Fine, I'll make you a bet then. Twenty says you can't spend one day without needing to have her attention. " Jason smirked picking up a pair of Raybands and slipped them on.
"First, those make you look like that weird kid from sixteen candles. Second, how can you even police a bet like that?" Brittany clutched her bag tighter knowing her brother always had a way when it came to gambling.
"Quiet, I look like a stud and easy, I'm going to go with you to the fair." He said with a bright charming smile. Brittany couldn't help rolling her eyes a second time. It was such a typical move on her brother's part. She knew it wasn't just about the bet, he wanted to go to make sure she was safe, but the over protective thing was getting a little suffocating for the teen.
"Fine. Whatever, but you have rules to follow too. No making things awkward, no outing anyone, and no jokes Jason. I'm serious. You're not even that funny." Brittany warned as Jason held open the door for her. He followed her out into the light powder of snow in flip-flops, sunglasses, and only his boxers. A little old woman who lived two doors down stood and gawked until Jason gave her a cheeky wave.
"You're too up tight Britt, don't worry so much. I'd never out little Lo, however if you don't want her then I might fuck with that idiot of a boyfriend she has and get on that myself. She is damn fine."
"Don't you dare." Brittany growled at him.
"So smitten." Jason laughed.
There was something about dance that felt spiritual to Brittany. It was the only time she felt all her cares and worries set free. Everything was about being in the moment and expressing how she felt through movement. Ever since her dad was put away for car jacking and possession, dance was the only thing that seemed to make Brittany feel whole, that is until she met the Lopez family.
In some ways she had been envious of Santana and Roman at first. They lived in a nice area of town, where they didn't have to worry about getting broken into and robbed or where their next meal might come from. Most of her clothes came from the thrift store, so when Santana had offered to drop a cool fifty on a dress for her at the mall Brittany couldn't help feeling uncomfortable. However the more she got to know them the more she saw they had struggles of their own.
Their parents were down right awful. Their rules made no sense and Brittany suspected she only knew half the story. It was no wonder Santana felt afraid to be herself. Still, knowing all this didn't change the fact that she was too embarrassed to tell Santana the truth: without the money Jason earned by riding in illegal racing, she'd be homeless.
Dance lasted only an hour, which in Brittany's opinion was far too short. She hugged the other girls goodbye and slipped her jacket on. The snow had stopped, but the wind was brisk like needles as she stood out front of the studio waiting for Roman to pick her up.
"Well lookie who we've got here. If it isn't little Bitchney Pierce" came a dark voice to Brittany's right. She turned to see a tall dark-haired young man strolling up to her with a wicked grin. Brittany moved to walk away, but he was already to close to her. Reaching out he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her in.
"What's up baby. It's been a while. Your brother around here someplace? He and I need to have a talk."
"He's not here, Axel. And I'm not your baby anymore, so leave me alone." Brittany snapped yanking her arm away from the taller boy.
"Whoa hey! We're just talking, no need to get angry. Since when did you get so feisty? I kinda like it." He grinned pressing a paw against the wall next to her head. "I heard all about your new pretty boyfriend. You can't seriously tell me you like being with him over someone like me or are you back to chasing skirts again with him as a front?"
"Yes, I can honestly say I'd choose him over you any day. I'd choose anyone over you any day." Brittany glared. She had learned from a very early age to hold her ground against thugs like Axel. His smile dropped and his licked his lips in irritation at her defiance.
"Tell your brother I want my money or I'll be seeing you both sooner than he'd like"
"Brittany?"
His eyes flickered to the side before shoving both his hands in his pocket and strolling back toward the auto body parts shop he had come from near by. Brittany let out the shaky breath she had held and looked around to see Santana jogging toward her from the parking lot.
"Are you okay, you look pale. Who was that guy? Did he hurt you? I'm going to fuck him up-"
Brittany put her hands on Santana's shoulders and gave her a warm smile. It was adorable the way she worried about even the smallest thing and the way she was willing to fight the world if there was even the slightest hint that someone was giving Brittany a hard time.
"It's okay San. He's just an ex boyfriend who doesn't understand the meaning of the words 'get lost'. Don't worry, I made it clear. What are you doing here? I thought Ro-"
"Roman was running late from work and didn't want you standing out in the cold, nether did I. I would have been here sooner, but this bitch in front of me wanted to dive twenty the whole way here." Santana grunted still keeping an evil eye on the Axel.
"You're so sweet." Brittany beamed linking her arm with her friends and guiding her back to the car. "You look like a cute little snow bunny right now."
Santana shot her a look that said "Snow bunny, really?"
She wore a thick white coat with a matching white knitted headband that wrapped around her ears. Her dark hair hung down thick around her face.
"Mhmm" Brittany beamed giving Santana a warm hug before climbing into her car. Once the heater was on and the car was rolling she pulled out her phone and sent a quick text to her brother.
Why does Axel think you owe him money?
No reason.
Jason. He just grabbed me in out side the studio. Tell me what's going on.
Wtf! I'm going to beat the shit out of him. It's nothing Britt. I lost a race last week, so I borrowed some cash to pay the rent. I'm entering another soon with a bigger pay out. Where is he now?
You know better than to mess with these guys. What were you thinking?
I was thinking I need to feed and take care of you. I've got this so just lay of, Brittany.
"Who are you texting?" Santana asked softly glancing over at her with such big brown eyes.
"Just Jason. You know how he is." Brittany dismissed easily. She put her phone away and turned all over her focus and attention on Santana. The girl squirmed a little awkwardly when Brittany looked at her. It was probably one of Brittany's favorite things to see.
"So how are things going with Puck. You guys are like a month or two now right?" Brittany bit her lip watching every detail that passed over Santana's face as she drove.
"We're—uh good. Really good. " Santana's voice trailed off like it always did when she talked about Puck. Brittany didn't see what she saw in him. His lips were always chapped, his hair was stupid, and he always had this look on his face like a baby who just took a poo, but then again Brittany didn't have room to complain.
"That's good...I can't wait for the fair. I don't remember the last time I went to one...Actually, I don't ever remember going to one." Brittany said turning to look out the car window.
"You've never been to the fair? Seriously? Britt you're going to love it. It's going to be cold, but you can borrow one of my thicker jackets. They have a ferris wheel, game booths, fortune tellers..." Santana's eyes lit up with an infectious wonder that spread over Brittany. She always thought she had the brunette figured out only to be tripped up.
Brittany giggled listening to Santana ramble as her mind wander off to some other place.
"What's funny?"
"You." Brittany chirped sweetly only to find herself fawning over Santana once again.
Okay, so maybe she was a little smitten with Santana, but it was harmless. Like the way someone would turn to mush over a kitten or a baby duck. Santana simply had an air about her that was magnetic. Since first catching her eye in the locker room Brittany couldn't help wanting to speak with her. She had thought of the first excuse she could come up with as a reason to talk to the beautiful cheerleader. The truth was Brittany already had her own body spray tucked away in her bag, but it was the first thing she could think of.
Santana blushed and focused her attention back on the road.
"Britt—I—uh...I miss you." Santana murmured without looking.
The blonde cocked her head to the side trying to puzzle out the meaning of the words. It seemed to be one of those read between the lines confessions that she had never really understood.
"San, I'm sitting right next to you. How can you miss me?" she asked with a frown though her heart started to thump a little louder. She had an indescribable urge to reach over and kiss the nervousness from Santana's face, but thought better of it.
"Never mind it's not important." She mumbled pulling up to the front of the house.
Brittany squeezed her hands in her lap. Why couldn't people ever just say exactly what they meant. For some reason it always felt as though she could see the things a person couldn't say plain as day, but seldom understood the words they spoke.
A shower, late lunch and a fresh set of warm clothes later Brittany sat in the back of Roman's car cramped between Jason and Noah. One of which stank like old musk and it wasn't her brother. Santana sat in the front with her own brother giving directions to Columbus, however Brittany suspected it had more to do with the anxiety of sitting between Jason and Noah, which was certainly stressful. Puck on the other hand was still convinced Jason had the hots for Santana and sat brooding about it by the window.
After an hour drive in traffic they parked outside the shanty fair gates just as the sun was starting to set. The other members of glee stood waiting by the entrance wrapped in their warm coats. Only a light dust of snow littered the ground, but the air was brisk.
"Balls it's cold." Puck grunted pulling his coat on tighter and rubbing his hands together.
"I've been in colder. What about you Lo?" Jason said with his usual wild cat grin giving Santana a nudge. Both Noah and Brittany narrowed their eyes.
"It's cold, but not too bad."Santana shrugged sliding her hands deep into her pockets.
"Let me know if you need an extra jacket to keep warm, Puckerman's going to need his."
Santana nodded in thanks and wondered over toward the entrance with her boyfriend following close behind with one hand on the small of her back.
"Ready babe?" Roman asked slipping his arm around her shoulders placing a soft peck on her lips.
Brittany quietly followed the group inside, stopping only so Roman and Puck could pay for their tickets. As expected once inside everyone split up into couples and friend groups leaving the Lopez couples and Jason to wonder around the fair in peace.
"Hey San, want to watch me win a bear for you?" Puck smirked grabbing the unamused girl's hand and dragging her toward a booth. Brittany folded her arms over her chest, keeping her distance as she watched the scene take place.
" You don't have to Noah-" Santana said reluctantly as the boy paid for three balls.
"This guy is a total Lima loser. Why do you put up with him being around your sister?" Jason asked Roman who still had a firm arm around Brittany.
"Santana's never really dated anyone before, so its new territory for me. Puck isn't a bad dude and as lame as it sounds, she's got to make her own mistakes. Besides, she seems to care about him a lot, so why mess that up for her. I mean you get it don't you Jace—the whole just wanting your sister to be happy thing?" Roman glanced over at Brittany and gave her a wink. She smiled back though his words made her uncomfortable for some implacable reason.
"Yea, I get that." Jason nodded.
"I'm sorry sir, but if you want another turn you'll have to pay again." The wrangler said impatiently at Puck who was now causing a scene over the game of basket toss.
"What the hell dude! This game is rigged. I tossed those balls perfectly."
Brittany caught Santana's eyes tossing her a small wink. In return the dark-haired girl had to cover her mouth to keep from laughing. She liked that they had mastered the art of communicating without having to say anything. It felt like had a language all to themselves.
"Of course it's rigged. There's springs on the back of the baskets to cause the balls to pop out. You've got to hit them in just the right place to win." Jason yelled over to the boy, but gave up and marched over "Look, I'll show you."
Jason paid for a round of balls and on his third and last try managed to land one in the basket without it popping out.
"It looks like we have a winner. Which of the small-sized stuffed toys would you like?" The wrangler asked pointing around to the choices.
"Which one do you want little Lo?"
Brittany clenched her fists in her pocket, but reminded herself that Jason was just being his usual taunting self. They had a bet after all and this was clearly his way of trying to win.
"Uh...I'll take the unicorn I guess. Thanks." Santana said pointing to a small pink and purple unicorn up at the top of the stand. The game master grabbed a hook and passed it to her. Noah looked livid, but that was nothing new.
Brittany was growing more uncomfortable by the moment, so she shrugged off Roman's arm and put a smile on her face and tried to make things better.
"Anyone hungry? I vote we go get some food."
With a general consensus she began skipping ahead in search of something to eat. The fair was a dazzling place full of bright lights that shimmered against the dirt of the fallen snow. As fun as it was, she couldn't help wondering what it would have been like with just Santana.
"I know that look." Jason hissed in her ear sliding onto the bench next to her with a plate of fair food startling Brittany from her thoughts.
"Go away I don't want to talk to you." Brittany bit back
"Why because I'm winning the bet?" Jason asked taking a bite of a piece of fried steak then offered her some.
"Ah—no. One: you're not winning anything. I've been happily by Rome's side since we got here and two: you wont let Santana and Puck have a moment's peace. You're messing everything up. Tonight would have been fun if you hadn't come. I'm also still mad that you borrowed money from Axel. " Brittany hissed pushing Jason's fork away from her face.
"Is everything okay?" Roman said taking a seat on her other side, looking puzzled between the two. " I got you a hot dog, is that okay?"
"Everything is great. Thanks baby." Brittany gave half-hearted smile as Santana and Puck sat across from them at the table. She gave his a sweet kiss on the lips just to prove her point to Jason. As she looked up she caught a glimpse of Santana to look away.
"So what's next?" Jason said rubbing his hands together while everyone ate quietly. The truth was if he hadn't come the night would have been a quiet event, as were most of Santana and Brittany's double dates.
"Well there's the fortune-teller over in the far corner, the petting zoo, fun house, or we can check out the beer garden" Roman suggested.
"The petting zoo sounds fun" Brittany perked up a little bit. She loved animals.
"Eh, I'm not really feeling it. The beer garden sounds way better. We can get a buzz going and then check out the ferris wheel before the place closes for the night." Jason countered causing Brittany to pout. Puck and Roman nodded.
"Sorry babe, if you want to go see farm animals we can go check out some in Lima. There are still plenty of farmers who raise live stock. " Roman suggested
"I'll go with Brittany."
Brittany's eyes trailed over to Santana who had spoken.
"I don't feel like drinking anyway. You guys can all go check out the beer garden while we go look at the animals." She suggested causing Brittany to really smile for the first time that night.
"Sounds good to me!" Jason said as he stood to toss his plate. "But you have to promise to keep a good eye on my baby sister little Lo. She's the only one I've got." he tossed her a wink.
"We'll be fine." Brittany grinned not giving a second thought to her brothers words. "We'll meet you by the ferris wheel in an hour"
Brittany hopped up from her seat and took Santana's hand tugging her along in a hurry. Santana laughed leaving her unicorn with Puck and tossing her plate in the trash as she practically ran next to Brittany. Not letting go Brittany darted out into the fair, happy to finally be rid of her brother and the other boys.
"Britt what's the rush. The animals are still going to be there if we walk."
"I know I just wanted to get away from them." Brittany paused to turn and look around at Santana, breathless.
It was almost magic the way Santana's long hair danced around in the chilly wind. The lights reflected off her rosie cheeks and the way their breath hung in a cloud as they caught their breath.
"I know—you didn't seem to be having very much fun. Sorry." Santana looked down and bit the inside of her cheek.
Brittany's fingers twitched to brush against Santana's cheeks, but she willed herself to keep away. That's what Santana had said she wanted, after all.
"Why are you sorry. You don't have anything to be sorry for." Brittany frowned taking a step closer, instead using her index finger to raise Santana's chin to meet her eyes. The small skin contact was enough to tame her itch for now and send a warm pulse through her limbs.
"I—I invited you here because I wanted to have a fun night out with my best friend, but the more I thought about it the more it felt-I just didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea, so I invited Puck knowing you'd bring Roman. As much as I don't really like the losers in glee I still want them to like me, you know? Everything just got out of hand. All night I've thought that this would have been so much more fun if it was just you and I here." Santana licked her lips making Brittany's heart flutter long with her words.
"San, you're so sweet. I just wish you could have said this sooner. Honestly I've felt the same way. I love hanging out with the guys and I like our double dates, but you're my best friend and sometimes best friends need alone time to hang out." Brittany looked down to notice she was still holding Santana's warm fingers between her own. Lightly she ran her thumb over the soft skin at the back of her hand. "It's not too late to fix things though. The boys are gone and it's just you and me, so let's go have some fun."
Santana's smile swept across her whole face making Brittany feel just as happy. Without letting go of her friend's hand Brittany set off again toward the petting zoo.
When they arrived Santana let go and took a step back from the pen, noticing a girl named Tina from glee stood inside petting a few sheep with the handicapped boy Artie.
"San, what's wrong?" Brittany asked watching as her friend shy away.
"Nothing. I'm just not huge on petting animals that haven't bathed in a few days." She said with a grimace glancing over at a pair of goats with a particularly nasty smell radiating off of them. "You can go ahead. I'll watch."
"It's not as fun if you don't come too." Brittany whined tugging Santana inside, stopping only to wave hi to Tina. Brittany led Santana over to a donkey who nibbled on a bit of straw.
"Isn't he sweet" She swooned running her fingers through his course fur.
"He's...so big." Santana said skittish with her hands firmly in her pockets.
"He's not going to bite you. He's friendly see." Brittany gently pulled Santana's hand out and placed it on the beasts muzzle, stroking down his nose. "Good boy."
Brittany stood close by giving Santana soft whispers of encouragement as she took turns petting each animal that Brittany pointed out.
"One day I'm going to have a huge Zoo of my own, with every kind of animal there is." Said Brittany dreamily as she bent down to play with a few ducks.
"Is that your dream?" Santana asked with her head cocked to one side. She looked at Brittany with strange eyes which made Brittany shy in turn.
"Uh—one of them I guess."
"What are the others?" Santana pressed. She could hear the sudden curiosity in her friend's voice. Brittany stood and began to slowly walk with Santana toward the front of the pen and back toward the fair.
"Well, ever since I was little I always dream about what it would be like to have a huge family. I guess my biggest dream is just to fall in love, get married, and have a big family with a lot of kids. In some ways that counts as owning a Zoo right?" She chuckled, but noticed that Santana didn't find her joke as funny. She caught a flicker of something painful streak across her friend's features only to have it vanish again.
Santana nodded and have a small smile for show.
"That sounds beautiful Britt. You'd be an awesome mom. Heck you're a third of the way there already." Santana shoved her hands deep into her pockets again as they wandered around the fair grounds, but Brittany couldn't help feeling like she had yet again missed something important.
"Hey, we still have some time to kill, do you want to go check out the fun house?" Santana suggested picking up her pace and once again keeping a reasonable space between them. Brittany gritted her teeth and followed. Boys might be silly and boring, but girls were impossible.
"Sure that sounds fun—did I miss something?" Brittany lied trying to catch up to Santana who had her sights firmly set on the noisy fun house up a head. Fun houses were notoriously not fun at all. It didn't help that this one was covered in scary clowns. Santana gave a half shrug and pulled two tickets out of her pocket.
"Not sure what you mean." She mumbled barley waiting for Brittany as she made her way up the moving steps of the fun house.
"I mean—San wait for me." Brittany whined struggling a little bit as she tried to take two steps at a time. With a small sigh Santana relented and waited for her at the top. Brittany was now sure there was something on the girl's mind and she was going to figure out what it was clowns be damned.
"You've been acting odd all day. I feel like there's something you want to say to me, but you're not or I'm not getting it. It's making my head hurt and my heart."Brittany grumbled as she looked over at the deceptively normal looking path in front of them. Wicked looking men with painted faces covered the wall, all laughing at her.
Santana scoffed distracting her from her fear.
"I've acted weird? You're the one who's constantly texting and talking to strange guys on the street. I can't even get an honest answer out of you lately..." Santana huffed taking the first step only to jump back as the floor dipped down beneath her. Once she had her bearings, Santana quickly crossed with little effort.
"I—what does that even mean? What does that have to do with anything? " Brittany called taking a running start and leaping the short distance across the walkway.
"Nothing. It doesn't mean anything." Santana grunted turning the corner to another staircase that lead to a room with tiny tiles on the floor that spun in circles.
"Stop doing that. I'm trying to understand what the issue is, but you keep doing that thing people do when they say things without actually saying things. I can't—I'm not good at hearing the things you're saying without saying. I wish I was, but I'm not. Can you please just tell me why you're upset? We were fine five minutes ago at the petting zoo." Brittany yelled as she tip-toed between the tiles.
Santana stood on one at the center of the room, spinning in never-ending counter-clockwise circles with it as she stared up at the dirty ceiling.
"I told you already...I miss you." Santana stated as though it were the simplest thing to understand in the world. Brittany hopped across trying to get as close as possible, but Santana simply glided away as if on skates.
"San, I'm right here. I don't—" the thought finally clicked for Brittany when she caught the look in Santana's eye. She felt the same longing struggle to both be close and distant that Brittany had been experiencing. It seemed that they were destined to always be with in arms reach, but never allowed to hold one another.
Unlike Roman's stable trustworthy arms, Santana's seemed to hold that bit of something indescribable more. Roman was earth, reliable, a rock. Santana was fire, warmth, fleeting. Brittany felt torn, feeling as though she needed both to live. Her eyes grew dark and fixated on Santana who seemed to weaken under their attraction, but Brittany waisted no more time in their chase through the not-so-fun-house.
Santana disappeared through the door and into the next room with Brittany close on her heals. One hundred dark-eyed, brunettes watched her as she passed through into the room of mirrors. They each had a look of pleasant sadness about them. They kind of sadness that comes from a longing heart. Brittany knew that look all too well. It was the look she wore every morning to find her mother wasn't there to greet her hello. It was a sadness that she couldn't stand to see on Santana's lips.
"Santana..." She cooed like a hunter calling for its pray. "I get it now...please stop running from me. I've missed you too..."
The reflection's vanished leaving Brittany's in their place. She could hear the girl's light footsteps moving around trying to navigate the small maze of mirrors. Brittany picked up her pace, darting around corners, only catching a glimpse here and there of Santana's coat or boots.
"It's wrong, B. You shouldn't—I shouldn't miss you this much. I feel trapped." Santana whimpered only a hair's length away behind yet another shimmering silver wall. For a moment Brittany though she had caught up to her only to rush over to find the girls reflection.
"I don't have the answer Santana-" Brittany turned and darted around another corner to find the real Santana standing at a dead-end looking helpless and lost. It took only a moment for Brittany to be on her, pressing her into the glass, their bodies as close as their snow jackets would allow.
"I do know that I'm confused about how I feel..." Brittany whispered breathing heavy through the cold air.
"I—I think we should go b-back to the car." Santana said so quietly that Brittany thought for a moment she had misheard her. A small grin etched over Brittany's thin lips, taking a step back and releasing Santana. Her friend's cheeks were bright red, but she made no attempt to hid it. Instead Santana gripped Brittany's hand bravely and led them out of the mirror maze. It took her only minutes to guide Brittany safely through the rest of the house.
Santana released her hand out in the open, much to Brittany's disappointment, but it wasn't unexpected. Her friend led the way back to the front gate of the fair, stopping only for a moment when Brittany stopped to ask about the boys.
"Fuck them right now. They're probably to drunk to even remember we were suppose to meet anyway—I mean we can go find them-"
"No! No. They can figure it out. If they worry we've got our phones." Brittany was full of nervous excitement. She had never seen Santana so determined before. She wondered if maybe she misunderstood Santana's remark in the fun house, but the way Santana kept glancing back at her made Brittany certain she was about to get a very strong argument for pro-Santana.
They walked quickly through the parking lot until they reached Roman's car. Santana tugged on the handle only for it to hold tightly locked.
"Shit. I forgot about the keys." Santana audibly groaned
"Oh, hang on I can do this!" Brittany bent down and untied her boot and removing the lace.
"Britt it's locked."
Tying a quick noose style not in the center Brittany slipped it between the door and the jam shimmying it until the noose wrapped around the tip of the pull up door lock. She pulled it sharp and the noose gripped tight pulling the lock up with it. With a small pop the door opened easy.
"What the hell-" Santana looked stunned as Brittany re-laced her boot. "How did you-where did you learn to do that?" Brittany shrugged. You learned a few things when your dad stole cars for a living.
Brittany motioned for Santana to slide into the back first, watching Santana grow nervous in the cutest way. Brittany slipped in behind and closed the door shut before turning to look at her friend. Puck's distinct smell still hung in the car, but right now all Brittany could think about was wanting to know what Santana smelled like. Her heart beat so fast, but she stayed still. This was Santana's game and she knew she'd have to play by her rules.
"Britt..." Santana whispered to get her attention. Brittany flicked her blue eyes over to her friend who sat facing her. Awkwardly Brittany maneuvered so that she too could face Santana, but her friend seemed to have a different plan. The moment Brittany moved Santana lunged for her taking her face between her hands and placing a deep lush kiss against Brittany's thin lips. Moaning into the kiss Brittany leaned back against the door as she wrapped her arms around Santana's neck, pulling her in as close as possible
They kissed each other hungrily, as though it had been years since ether of them had been truly satisfied. A part of her felt proud of Santana for being so bold. It was the first time she had ever seen the girl go after something she really wanted, Brittany only hopped this Santana would stick around. She felt her friend's warm tongue brush over her lips over eager to feel Brittany's own. Happily the blonde obliged, grinning as she opened her lips wider to let Santana deepen their kiss further.
Brittany soon grew too hot for the cramped back seat of her boyfriend's car, knowing Santana was too she reached for the zipper of her jacket as they continued to kiss, pulling it down as far as it would go until she could push it off the latina's shoulders.
"Han-Hang on-hot." Brittany panted frantically pulling at her own zipper with Santana's help. Together they pulled the thing off and tossed it into the front seat, out-of-the-way. Brittany sank down until she was laying with Santana on top of her fit snugly between her spread legs. Her long fingers grabbed the front of Santana's shirt and tugged her back toward her lips.
"Com'mere you" She purred kissing a trail of hot kisses along Santana's neck. Drunk off of her friend's sexy kisses. Her libido was raging. She wanted to be closer. She wanted more. Without thinking she began pulling on the bottom hem of Santana's top as the girl's dark raven hair hung around them.
"Britt, what are you doing?"Santana husked kissing by her ear just the way she liked. Brittany's hand slipped under the cloth touching her friend's warm belly. She wanted to see it. She wanted to see all of what was under Santana's shirt.
Brittany pulled her head away to look at Santana with lustful eyes. She licked her now puffy lips and bit them, with a playful smile.
"Take your top off..." Brittany said as more of a suggestion than an order.
"What?" Santana asked again this time with a slight edge to her voice causing Brittany to sit up on her elbows.
"I want you to take your top off-if you want to. It's okay if you don't." Brittany reached out and ran her hand soothingly down Santana's arm to comfort her. "You're really hot, San. I like what I've seen and I want to see more."
"I-um-okay, but only if you do it too." Santana blushed sitting back on Brittany's hips waiting for Brittany to go first.
Unlike Santana, Brittany didn't hesitate. Her arms crossed over her body grabbing both sides of her top and pulling it off clean over her head, tossing it to the side. However she didn't stop there. Santana had shown interest in her twins on more than one occasion and Brittany wasn't about to keep the party all to herself. Reaching back with a flick of her thumb, her bra came unclasped. She slid the straps down, never breaking eye contact with Santana, and pulled the constrictive cloth away from her chest. Effortlessly she tossed it aside, trying not to laugh at the way Santana now stared at her.
"Your turn." She smiled grabbing the bottom of Santana's top and tugging it upwards. The girl struggled to get the cloth off, but eventually it too was tossed aside. Brittany's pale hands slid up and down the sides of Santana's waist, feeling her warmth and admiring her perfectly tone body. She didn't have the same chiseled abs Brittany had from years of dance and motocross, but she was extremely fit.
"This too..." She said hotly running her finger over the edge of Santana's bra, tickling her skin. "Here let me help." she leaned forward and effortlessly unclasped the cloth, with a small gasp from Santana. The younger Lopez tentatively pulled her bra away and tossed it to the side, just how Brittany had.
The tall blonde sat mesmerized by Santana's amazing chest. She knew the girl looked good in any top she wore and she had caught a peak here and there, but she had never been granted full access before. Her long slender fingers slid over the girl's ribs and up to cup them in the palm of her hands, causing Santana to squeak and blush harder.
"Wow San, your boobs are so soft and amazing." Brittany said in awe. She gave them a light squeeze and rolled her friend's nipple between her fingers.
"They're not that great. They're kind of small. They're not like yours" Santana whimpered looking down at her own to compare them to Brittany's.
"Sweetie, what are you talking about? Look how well they fit in my hands." Brittany sat up all the way. Santana's eyes softened before she leaned in to give Brittany a sensual thank you kiss. Brittany smiled, kissing her back just as gently, slipping her hands into Santana's dark hair. Her friend relaxed into the kiss and allowed her own hand to explore Brittany's chest too.
After a half hour the girls lost all track of time as they kissed and explored each other. Brittany kissed and sucked her way down between Santana's girls before popping one into her mouth for a moment. Santana arched her back moaned loudly causing a rush to pass through Brittany's core, soaking her panties through, though they were already very damp. With a pop she moved to the other one, making sure to savor every sound Santana made.
The time came when Brittany felt too turned on to continue. They needed to stop before things got out of hand or before someone caught them.
"I think we should text the guys and see where they're at" Santana mumbled reading Brittany's mind as she lazily kissed Brittany's neck an hour or so later. "It's getting late and we can't just stay here forever."
"I kind of want to though." Brittany teased running her fingers up and down Santana's bare spine.
"Shut up." Santana laughed digging around the car for her phone.
"I've got mine. Hang on." Brittany looked at her phone to see ten missed texts.
Where are you guys at?
Britt where are you?
Hey did you go some place else?
Each one progressively more worried.
We're okay. Santana and I couldn't find you after the Zoo so we walked around for a bit. My phone died, so we walked back to the car to charge it. How was the beer garden
Brittany looked over to see Santana pulling her clothes back on. She had half a mind to rip them right back off.
Pucker-idiot lost his fake ID. We couldn't get in. We've been looking for you guys for like 2 hours, Britt. Not cool. Also- there's no way you could have charged your phone with out Roman's key's. You hooked up with Lo, didn't you? You owe me $20 and a foot massage.
"What did they say?" Santana asked pulling her long hair back into a pony tale.
"They've been looking for us. I guess Noah lost his fake ID, so they couldn't go to the garden. Don't worry. I covered and said we were walking around and that they probably just missed us."
"We should probably go find them..."Santana said pulling on her jacket.
"They're coming to us." Brittany grabbed up her shirt and slipped it on bralessly. "Before they get here San, I think we should talk about this..."
Brittany swallowed as the gilt and reality began to sink in a little. The silver sapphire necklace that sat against her collar was beginning to feel a lot more like a choker.
"There's nothing to talk about, Britt. We missed each other so we kissed a little. No big deal right." Santana brushed her off effortlessly with a please smile, but her words stung Brittany. It was a big deal. At least it felt like a big deal to her.
"San—can we please just be serious for a second. I think we need to talk about this. Things are really confusing for me. Refusing to talk about it isn't going to make it just go away. I have feel-"
There was a light tap on the window which startled both girls. Brittany looked around to see Roman waving through the glass. Frustrated, she closed her eyes and sighed. "Fine. Have it your way Santana." She growled opening the door and climbing out so the boys could get in.
The drive was long and quiet, but by some stroke of luck Puck insisted on siting in the front seat away from Jason. Santana took the middle with both Pierce's on ether side at the window. Santana didn't budge much, but that didn't stop Brittany from stealing glances every so often. Finally Santana gave a soft yawn and leaned her head against Brittany's shoulder.
"Look I'm sorry. I'm just-I'm confused too okay. Please be patient with me." She whispered so that only Brittany could hear. Jason watched from the corner of his eye, but made no attempt to comment.
"I know, San. Sorry if I got impatient with you or made you go further then you wanted."
"No, B. Don't think that. It was my idea to come to the car and it was my choice to let things go as far as they did."
Jason picked up the jacket Brittany had borrowed from Santana and passed it over to them on request. Underneath where no one could see the two girls intertwined their fingers and slept the rest of the way home.
The girls woke when the car parked out front of Brittany and Jason's apartment complex. With a series of quick hugs and kisses the Pierce siblings both said their goodbyes and made their way inside their house.
"Did you have fun, Britt"
"It was okay.." she said with a small yawn.
"Really, I'd have to say other wise." Jason grinned and pulled her bra out of his jacket pocket. "I think you had a lot of fun."
Brittany snatched the piece of clothing away from her brother.
"Okay, so we 're smitten with each other. It's none of your business." Brittany said grumpy. Her brother just chuckled and shook his head.
"The sad thing is, you're in so deep and you don't even know it." Jason stretched his arms out. "I'm off to bed baby sis. Sweet dreams. Try not to over think whatever happened tonight." He said pecking his sister on the forehead and went to his room.
With a sigh Brittany did the same, throwing herself down onto her bed and burying her face in the pillows. Something told her things were only going to get more confusing from here on out, and she was right.
* A/N- I think this is the longest chapter I've ever written. Wow. So I'm sorry my updates are so slow. I've had a lot of personal stuff going on and I've also been working like crazy. I'm trying to buy a new computer so this one will stop dying mid-chapter. Santana and Brittany are like too magnets, even when they want to stay away from each other they can't. They're so hot and cold, which I think works out well and makes for fun ups and downs. I tossed in a little Glee canon too. "This relationship is really confusing for me" and " Well I don't know how I feel because Santana refuses to talk about it."
So many people were asking for Brittany's POV and I thought that it was a good time to start sharing her side of things, although I will say it was really hard for me to write. I'm so use to seeing this story from Santana's eyes that stepping into Brittany's shoes made it seem like a totally different story. Unlike Santana, Brittany sees things more positively. She also a more physical being who acts on her impulses, where as Santana gets trapped in her own head more. I hope it turned out well and you guys liked it. I can't wait to hear what you guys think.
Happy Easter/ 420 everyone.
