Chapter 21

C'est La Vie

Santana

Santana lay staring up at the ceiling fan as it rotated slowly. The walls of her abuela's cabin creaked with the sound chilly mountain air whistling by. Snow dusted the sliding glass door as the sun peaked through the cracks in the wood. She stretched an arm out and rubbed the empty spot next to her, it was still a mess from when Brittany had slept there. It had been five days since they had arrived and already they had fallen into a domestic routine that felt like a fairy tale to Santana. There was something so perfect in their little game of house that made her wonder if it was possible for a single person to be so happy and in love. The thought brought a stupid grin to her cheeks.

The first night had Santana torn with anxiety as a thousand 'what if questions' raced through her mind. In those moments she paused and remembered to take deep breaths so not to panic. They had special plans for this trip after all and the last thing Santana wanted was to chicken out. However, the drive seemed to zap the energy right out of both girls, causing them to pass out in their clothes on the couch. Santana spent the next two days waiting for Brittany to make the first move, but when the blonde seemed to make no effort, she was left disappointed. As a matter of fact Santana was beginning to grow frustrated by her girlfriends lack of interest, they had talked about having sex while she was suspended hadn't they? Maybe Brittany was on her period or not in the mood? Santana had half a mind to ask, but chickened every time she opened her mouth

Santana closed her eyes enjoying the sound of Brittany pulling out dishes and opening the fridge. They played this game whenever Santana slept at Brittany's house. Brittany would wake up first and start to make breakfast while Santana pretended to still be asleep. After twenty minutes she'd get up and help Brittany finish and they'd both eat breakfast in bed together. Santana bit her lip willing herself not to get up just yet.

By day four Santana had grown seriously hot and bothered by Brittany. The blonde refused to wear anything more than underwear and a t-shirt to bed despite the mountain snow outside and she loved to touch Santana's knee or gaze her boob when they sat close

"Babe, you're going to freeze to death!"

"No I'm not. I've got you to curl up next to and you're hot enough for the both of us."

Santana couldn't exactly complain when Brittany curled up next to her like a kitten, wrapping their legs together, or else faced her sliding her thigh between Santana's legs making her squirm. Watching the blonde drift off to sleep had become a serious addiction for Santana to the point where she might have considered rehab if Brittany wasn't so damn beautiful. She wouldn't think to sleeping until Brittany was safely passed out in her arms.

Santana sat up, finally unable to fake sleep any longer. She pulled her hair back into a long ponytail and opened the bedroom door to find Brittany standing in front of the stove staring at an egg. Quietly she approached, sliding her arms around her girlfriend's waste and placing a few light kisses on the back of her neck.

"Morn'n beautiful. What are you do'n?" She asked with a lazy yawn.

"I'm trying to figure out if there's a baby chick in here. I don't want to disturb him if there is" Brittany pouted.

Santana giggled and took the egg.

"Don't worry these one's are specially made for people. There's no baby chick in there." She said giving it a crack against the counter and spilling it into the bowl. "What are we making?"

"Well, I was going for french toast, but the recipe is really confusing." Brittany turned around and put her arms around Santana's neck "Just once I want to make you breakfast in bed without you waking up first." she whined cupping the back of Santana's neck and leaning in for a sexy good morning kiss. Santana felt a familiar jolt between her legs, noticing that Brittany was still in her skimpy pajamas, yet some how made the messy just out of bed look seem incredibly sexy.

Santana's hands fell to her hips as they kissed and refused to let go when they stopped. "But I love making breakfast with you. It's our little tradition." She grinned pulling Brittany in closer for another steamy kiss. She pushed Brittany back lightly against the counter as her fingers stroked her sides.

"Someone's hungry this morning." Brittany laughed playfully kissing and pressing Santana lightly back.

"You have no idea—I mean—um I'll help you finish this." Santana flushed with embarrassment. "Why don't you put on some music while we cook. Berry will kill us if we don't practice."

Brittany eyed her for a moment, but then with a sly smirk she nodded walking off into the living room to turn on the stereo. She heard the rumblings of a really old song, but it wasn't until Brittany skipped back into the room and shouted "I love this song" did Santana begin to recall the words.

Brittany hummed the tune and danced around the kitchen making Santana smile as she began cracking more eggs.

"I said hey boy, sittin' in your tree. Mummy always wants you to come for tea. Don't be shy, straighten up your tie Get down from your tree house sittin' in the sky" Brittany sang grabbing Santana's hand and giving her a twirl. "Dance with me San!"

Embarrassed Santana shook her head, but couldn't help herself as Brittany hopped up onto the counter. "Say you will, say you won't. Say you'll do what I don't. Say you're true. Say to me, c'est la vie!" she sang loudly dancing around and laughing.

Brittany hopped down off the counter and spun her girlfriend around in circles stealing a quick peck. Pushing Santana up against the fridge lightly she made a dorky face as she raised the hem of Santana's shirt "Hey boy, in your tree. Thrown down your ladder, make a room for me. I got a house with the windows and doors. I'll show you mine if you show me yours"

Santana cupped her face in her hands trying not to turn red as she cracked up laughing. Brittany laughed too letting go of Santana's shirt and giving her a dozen kisses on her cheek.

"You are the biggest dork I've ever met." Santana sighed brushing blonde hair out of Brittany's face.

"Pfft you're the one who has comic books stuffed under her bed." Santana faked out rage and moved toward the mixing bowl. Turning on the stove she began dipping bread into the batter and tossing the slices into the pan.

"Here come try this, Britt" she said pulling the first bit of toast off and platting it. She heard Brittany walk up behind her as she wrapped her arms around Santana in just the same fashion as Santana had moments earlier. Her long fingers teased at the hem of Santana's plaid pajama bottoms.

"I'm in love with you, Santana." she whispered placing a soft kiss at on her neck that seared into her skin. Santana felt herself go flush. Brittany's hand dipped below the hem of her pants and into her underwear. " There's only one thing I want to taste right now and that's you."

Santana's head was dizzy and she didn't know what to say, so she let her body relax and leaded back against Brittany. She could feel her girlfriend grin then her hand slip further down. She inhaled sharply as she felt Brittany's fingers explore, she tried not to be embarrassed but to just wasn't her lucky day. Without warning Brittany removed her hand and Santana spun around confused. Weren't they here to have sex? Why was Brittany being such a tease? She was about to say something snide when she caught Brittany's dark looks as she licked her fingers clean. Santana froze and swallowed thickly. Brittany tossed her a charming smirk

"Coming?" She asked nodding back toward the bedroom.

"Yes." Santana said a little too eagerly, but Brittany placed a hand out to stop her.

"You're burning the toast." She pointed and then walked off to the bedroom.

"Shit shit shit." Santana said quickly turning off the oven and tossing the burnt toast away. She washed her hands from the kitchen mess then ran to find Brittany.

Santana had barely taken two steps into the room when Brittany had closed the door pushing her body up against it. Santana grabbed the back of the blonde's neck only to feel Brittany gab her by the thighs and lift her into the air. She squeaked as she was carried over to the messy bed and set down. Brittany kissed along her chest and collar as her hands wandered.

"Are you sure about this" Brittany asked hovering over her with a soft smile.

"Are you kidding? You've been driving me crazy all week. Yes I'm sure. I love you, Britt." Santana grabbed the front of Brittany's shirt and yanked her down into a rough kiss. She could feel her hands trembling, but she was certain that she had finally found the person she wanted to give everything to. " Wh-what about you? Are you okay?"

Brittany paused for a moment brushing her long hair out of her face.

"Yes, I'm more then positive I want to be with you too, San." She confessed "You are the most beautiful, amazing, smart, kind, ridiculous, and patient person I've ever met. You're my whole world and I want to be as close to you as possible."

Santana felt her air escape from her chest as Brittany spoke. She felt like crying from joy but she held it together. Instead she leaned forward and lifted Brittany's sleep shirt up over her head.

Sex with Brittany was unlike anything Santana had imagined. In movies and online it always seemed so serious where nothing weird or awkward happened. She never expected to laugh so much through the whole thing, but she did. Brittany was so patient any time Santana felt as though she needed to take a breath or wanted to try something different. She didn't tease or make fun, it was a partnership between the two of them working to gather to make each other feel good. When Santana felt guilty for not being able to climax on their first try, Brittany simply held her close.

"God I'm sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me. This has never happened before." Santana sulked feeling too ashamed to look up at her girlfriend.

"Santana stop. It's okay. It happens. That's not what this is even about. It's about you and me being together. It's your first time and you've got a lot on your mind, it's natural."

"I know…I just—"

"This isn't going to be the first and last time we do this." Brittany teased kissing Santana's cheek and huddling tight next to her. "It'll happen eventually. Trust me. " She winked. Santana hid her face in Brittany's body and pulled the covers up so they had a little extra warmth.

"Britt do you think I could—" Santana asked shyly as her fingers roamed the plain of Brittany's stomach.

"Could what?" she asked confused.

"Could try doing that thing—you know the one that you did earlier that I really liked?" Santana bit her lip and giggled knowing how silly she sounded. Brittany thought it over for a moment and raised an eyebrow before laughing too.

"San, that's the one thing you never have to ask if you can do."

"You'll help me though right?" Brittany nodded her head and bit her lips as Santana leaned forward and began trailing long hot kisses along her abs. Santana felt nervous and excited as her tongue explored her girlfriends navel.

"Don't tease." Brittany warned playfully, spreading her legs to give Santana more room. She rolled her eyes and kept kissing though she could feel Brittany start to grow unsettled.

"Sannn, you're being so mean." she whined. "Oh god. yep. That's it. Okay San a little higher. mmhm. K now circles."

When Brittany stopped coaching Santana dared a glance up to see what was going on, only to find her girlfriend watching her with dark hooded eyes. Her breathing was heavy, but her smile encouraged Santana to keep going. Breathy moans started escaping her lips causing Santana's stomach to clench too. She wanted to be right in that moment with Brittany, but knew better then to stop.

"San, your fingers. Do both."

Seeing Brittany fall apart had to be one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen. She could hardly believe she had made someone else feel that good.

"Come here. I want to kiss you." Brittany panted with a lazy grin.

Santana crawled forward laying down in Brittany's arms kissing her with an easy happiness.

"You taste great." Brittany smirked sucking on Santana's bottom lip.

"Do I? Well I'll send the complements to the chef." Brittany rolled her eyes.

"Such a dork."

"Babe, I don't know about you but that was—" Santana stared up at the fan watching it whirl. "—I don't know why I waited so long."

"Was it everything you hoped for?"

"Yes and so much more because it was with someone I love." Santana glanced and Brittany and they both burst out into laughter.

"I love you too." Brittany said sweetly.

" I'm beat. Do you think we can take a nap and then start all over again." Santana asked nuzzling Brittany's shoulder and closing her eyes.

"Of course. Anything you want San." Brittany kissed Santana's forehead then the two drifted off to sleep.

"San wake up!" Brittany hissed giving the latina a rough shove. "Someone's at the door."

"Huh?" Santana yawned and glanced at the clock it was nearly 6pm.

"Someone is at the door." Santana heard the faint sounds of knocking.

"—the fuck." Santana grumbled, but hopped out of the bed. "Coming! Britt there's a baseball bat in the closet just incase."

Santana grabbed her pajamas off the floor and quickly threw them on over her head and yanked her hair back into a tight ponytail. Brittany tossed her the bat as she walked out into the living room. The both froze when the door clicked open.

"—dude they're fine. I don't think we should—"

"Santana?"

"Rome?"

"Jason!"

"Brittany!"

Brittany raced past Santana, now fully clothed, and jumped into her brother's arms giving him a huge hug, while Roman smirked at Santana.

"What were you planning on doing with that bat baby sis?" He teased stepping forward to give her a quick hug.

"I was about to beat your ass. What the hell were you thinking! You nearly gave Britt and I a heart attack." She growled putting the bat down. " Why are you even here!"

"Hey now. Don't sound too unhappy to see us little Lo." Jason teased putting Brittany down and pulling Santana in for a giant bear hug. She gritted her teeth as Roman hugged Brittany and kissed her head.

"Missed you too much beautiful." She heard him say. Brittany played coy, but looked apologetically at Santana.

"You didn't answer my question, why are you both here?" She demanded.

"Take a chill pill, San. I knew my girl was missing her brother. Plus this is the perfect place for Jason to lay low. He's going to help train her for the race."

Santana looked over at Brittany who just stood there awkwardly. She gave her the eye to say something, but Brittany just stood there.

"This is unbelievable." Santana snapped and marched out of the room.

"San!" Brittany called.

"Don't be that way" Roman added.

"I got this. You two catch up." Jason smiled and followed Santana through the house into the bedroom and out the sliding glass door, on to the deck.

"Here, if you're going to stay out here then you're going to need a jacket." Jason said pulling his hoodie off and handing it to her, which she begrudgingly accepted.

"Thanks" She grumbled looking out into the dark snowy woods. Jason stood there watching her for a long moment, making her feel uneasy, before finally speaking.

"So you and Britt planned a romantic get-away then?" he asked plainly. Santana had expected him to pick on her, but his voice was casual.

"I'm not gay, Jason." She said keeping her eyes fixed on the forrest.

"No one said you were. Just because your room is a mess and it smells like sex in there, it doesn't mean a damn thing. Neither does that hickey on your neck."

Santana's eyes grew wide and she quickly tried to cover her neck when Jason reached out and grabbed her hands.

"I'm kidding. There's no hickey. Look, you don't have to say anything about it, but you can trust me. I know you're afraid of Rome finding out and I told him coming here wasn't a good idea. I've got to be honest though, I really wanted to see my sister. She doesn't talk about it because I think she's ashamed, but it's just us. Our parents aren't around—"

"Yea, she told me about your mom. Such a bitch. I don't know how anyone can do that to their kid and call themselves a parent." Santana said softly.

"Wait she told you?" Jason looked taken back.

"Yea about a week ago."

"Wow, she must really love you because even when things are good Britt pretends like mom's going to be home any minute. Sometimes I worry about her."

"—I love her, Jason." Santana confessed closing her eyes. Saying those words out loud to Brittany was still difficult, but saying them to Jason felt like a crushing weight had crumbled from her chest. He was the first person she had ever admitted her feeling to other than Brittany. He reached out and put his arm around her shoulder bringing her into his side.

"I'm really sorry about spoiling your weekend away together, but I promise I'll try to keep Rome out of your way to make up for it."

"Why are you helping me. My brother's one of your closest friends. You know he's going to be crushed when he finds out."

Jason considered this for a long moment before smiling that Brittany like smile down at her.

"Yea, but he'll get over it and find someone new. Call me a hopeless romantic, but when I see you and my sister together it just seems right."

Santana bit her tongue, but couldn't help the grin that spread across her cheeks.

"Shut up don't be an ass." Santana said with a nudge.

"No, I'm serious—" Jason laughed.

"San?"

Santana turned around to find Brittany standing in the doorway with an apologetic look on her face.

"I'll just leave you two alone then." Jason gave Santana a small squeeze and walked back into the house. Santana took interest in the hem of her sleeve rather than Brittany who approached carefully.

"San, I'm sorry. I didn't know what to say. They drove all this way and it's not like we can kick them out or tell them to leave."

"This was suppose to be our vacation. Just you and me. No one else. Now Roman's here and once again I have to watch you play pretend with my brother. Maybe I'm being selfish, but the second we go back we're going to be stuck in the same stupid small town routine. I just wanted this to be perfect." Santana folded her arms defensively.

"What do you want me to Santana? You're the one who keeps telling me not to break up with him. No one says things have to be the same. You could always start being honest about who you are, not with everyone, but I don't think you give your friends enough credit. They love you for who you are not what you are." Brittany countered taking an equally defensive stance.

"Are you insane? Have you seen what those hicks do to people like me—like us? Have you heard the things they say about that Kurt kid?" Santana hissed glancing toward the door to make sure no one was listening

"I think you need to talk to Quinn." Brittany said taking a step forward. "She really needs you right now and I think she's someone you can trust with this."

"Absolutely not. Not just no, but hell fucking no. That bitch slept with my boyfriend and called me her friend."

" She's pregnant, Santana and I was under the impression Puck didn't mean anything to you so I don't see why you're holding on to such a petty grudge." Santana stood dumbstruck, but then turned on her heal and marched back toward the house.

"Fucking bullshit." she muttered, but Brittany caught her by the arm.

"Don't walk away from me Santana." Brittany warned

"I think you and your boyfriend should take the couch tonight. Jason can crash with me." Santana yanked her arm away, slamming the door behind her.

Brittany

Brittany kick started the engine of her bike giving it a few revs to warm it up. She could feel the raw instinct kick in loving the way the machine rumbled between her legs, yet there was still that fear which welled up in the pit of her stomach.

"This is crazy." She heard Santana say to Jason. It had been four days and her girlfriend still refused to speak to her. She had spend the remaining days in the living room listening to Roman's heavy breathing on a separate couch.

"This is nothing." He smirked giving Brittany a thumbs up, which she returned. She and the boys had put their spare time and energy creating a mini track around the Lopez cabin out of mud and snow mounds. In truth it wasn't much of a track at all, but it was designed to help Brittany grow comfortable on a bike again. "When ever you're ready baby sis!" Jason yelled.

Brittany looked over at Santana, who looked uncertain. She stood there gripping her jacket tightly. It was sweet to see that at least Santana still cared, she just hated that their perfect weekend had turned into such a nightmare. She revved the engine once more and kicked off letting the bike carry her easily around the first lap of the track. Once she felt failure with the turns, she really opened her up speeding and weaving through the trees. Jason had warned her to take it easy. If her tires lost traction she could skid and wrap around a trunk, but there was a reckless side of her that didn't care. She just wanted to go faster.

Ten laps in she felt her clutch stick. Not good. She finished the lap and came to a halt in front of the cabin.

"What's the matter? Are you okay?" Santana asked first looking a nervous wreck. Brittany wanted to cup her face and kiss her, but didn't.

"Yea. It's no big deal the clutch is just sticking. We'll probably have to take it apart. Not sure we can afford a new one. I wish I still had my bike." she said pulling her helmet off.

"What happened to it?" Roman asked.

"Sold it so we could move into that apartment." Jason shrugged. Brittany adjusted her ponytail trying not to notice that Santana's eyes where stuck on her. "I think now's a good time for lunch what do you think guys?"

"Yea. I could eat." Santana mumbled turning away and heading back into the house. Brittany grit her teeth. She didn't know how much more of this she could take. Why were girls so confusing and why couldn't Santana just tell her what she wanted?

"I'll be in soon. I just want to check a few things out." Brittany said as Jason followed Santana inside. Roman hung back with his hands buried in his jacket.

"You're really something, ya know? I saw the way you were hitting those turns out there. It just came so naturally to you that you'd never know that you'd been off a bike for a few years." he said with that mental smile that drew her to him in the first place. Brittany licked her bottom lip and fiddled with some of the gear settings unsure of what to say.

"Hey, is everything okay?" He asked stepping up closer putting his hand on the handle of the bike. " I feel like we've barely talked lately and I really miss you."

Brittany didn't speak, something she seemed to be doing a lot of lately instead she continued to check over the parts of her bike.

"Britt, come on. You know you can tell me whatever it is and I wont judge you for it." He said in a whimpery puppy sort of way that really tugged at her annoyance. " Britt. Look at me."

He grabbed her hand, but she quickly pulled it from his grip. Her cold blue eyes looked up to find rich familiar brown ones looking at her confused and hurt.

"Rome, I don't think I can do this anymore." She hadn't meant to say those words but they spilled past her lips, though it felt as though she had dropped a huge burden. She kept her feelings at a distance with a calm tone that was so unlike her. "I'm sorry, but I just don't love you the way I thought I did. You're still special to me, but I can't keep leading you on. It's no fair to you or to me."

"That's joke right? Britt, babe we're awesome together—"

Brittany held up her hand to stop him.

"Please don't make me say it again. I care about you, but this is not a joke. I think we should see other people."

He sat there struck for a long moment then shook his head.

"Fuck you, Britt" storming off he slammed the front door behind him.

"I guess brother like sister." Brittany grumbled.

Brittany sat on the couch of the living room sipping hot coco and watching Netflix when Santana emerged from the bedroom. Jason had offered to drive Roman into town for a few beers, leaving the girls with the cabin to themselves. Santana stood awkwardly off to the side until Brittany could no longer bare to ignore her anymore.

"Did you need something, San?" she asked turning her cold blue gaze on her girlfriend, if they were even still that.

"I just wanted to let you know that I did what you asked. I sent Quinn a text. I didn't tell her anything, but I'm sure she's terrified right now and could really use someone to lean on." She paused and waited. Brittany thought it over, but waited for Santana to continue. "I also heard about what you said to Roman today and I wanted to say that I'm sorry if I made you feel like you had no choice. I know how you feel about him."

"No. Obviously you don't know." Brittany raised an eyebrow. "I don't know how many different way I have to tell you until you believe me, Santana. I love you and only you. Did I enjoy hurting Rome? No of course not, but losing him compared to the thought of losing you is nothing. I just wish you could see that."

"I do see that! I do. I'm just an asshole sometimes. I feel threatened or scared and then I end up saying things or acting like a complete bitch because I don't know how to deal with all of this." she took a few cautious steps forward "Can we please call a truce? I don't want to fight anymore. I just want to be with you. "

Brittany thought it over for a long moment

"Fine, but I have a few conditions."

"Anything."

"One, no one is allowed to bring up the boyfriend argument anymore. You can't use my relationship with Rome against me and I wont use Puck against you. Deal?"

"That's fair."

"Two, you need to ask me to be your girlfriend again. Like officially official. We don't have to tell anyone, but I want us to start fresh and I mean the whole production. You better make it cute or I might just say no." Brittany warned. Santana bit back a smile but nodded in agreement.

"Three, we make hot chocolate and cuddle on this couch tonight. The boys can sleep in the other room."

"Oh that's a given." Santana laughed running over and jumping on to Brittany who squeaked "Can I have a kiss?"

"I guess so." Brittany said placing her hand on Santana's cheek and giving her a soft kiss.

"Babe, I just had a thought" Santana smirked stealing another kiss. "We're going to have to spend a lot more time at your place from now on."

"Why is that?" Brittany asked scrunching her brow.

"Because you're way too loud to have sex with at my place." Santana teased.

"Oh my god. Get up and make hot chocolate." Brittany laughed pushing Santana off her lap. "I've created a sex monster."

"Mhmmm You can say that again." Santana grinned as she walked over to the kitchen and began pouring out the milk and the coco packet into a pot to heat up. Brittany's heart raced, she hated the way she fell for that charming smile every time and yet she loved it all the same. Regardless, she knew that she was hooked for life on Ms. Santana Lopez and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

She wrapped her arms around Santana's neck and drew her lips in kissing her nice and slow. It had only been a few days and yet she had missed each little detail of Santana, like the way she scrunched her nose when she got excited as they kissed, or the way her skin felt under her finger tips. She missed the small gasps and catching a breath after kissing too much.

"What the fuck are you doing!" Roman's harsh voice tore through the room causing the girls to jump apart. Brittany whirled around to find their brothers standing in the doorway. Jason look surprised, but Roman was positively red in the face.

"Rome—I can explain." Brittany tried to say as he took two steps toward them. His blurry drunk eyes darted between her and Santana trying to make sense of what he had seen.

"Bro, I think you and I should step outside and cool down." Jason said trying to ease the tension in the room.

"No, fuck you. I want to know what the fuck is going on here!" Roman's eyes found Santana first. His tone was hurt and confused "Are you sleeping with my girlfriend?!"

"I—" Santana seemed to freeze as Brittany stepped in front of her keeping her from Roman's sight. The gesture told him more then he needed to know.

"You fucked my sister didn't you? You don't love me anymore because you're hooking up with her!" He growled taking another step forward. Jason quickly maneuvered so that he was standing between them. Brittany knew there was no way he'd let Santana's brother anywhere close in the state he was in.

"Dude, I'm only going to say this one more time. Let's go outside and take a breath. We can deal with this when you're sober."

"Fuck you. Did you know about this?" Roman accused shoving Jason in the chest. However that was more then enough reason for Jason to take control of the situation. Roughly he grabbing his friend by the collar of his shirt and twisted his arm around until Roman realized it was pointless to struggle against the hold.

"Take Santana and hang out in the room. I'll take care of him." Jason said with a nod. Brittany felt shaky, but Santana looked down right horror stricken.

"Come on, San. It's going to be fine." Brittany cooed leading her girlfriend away from the kitchen as Jason lead Roman out into the yard.

Brittany shut the door and put her arms around Santana who had begun to cry hysterically.

"My life is over." She sobbed cupping her mouth and clutching her stomach.

"Shh no. It's going to be okay. I promise Santana. Everything is going to be okay."
