Damon and Lacey didn't normally run in the same social circles, but now that she was dating Danny Desai, who was from a very wealthy family, the two somehow ended up at the same function.

Damon spotted her first, his eyes immediately scanning the crowd for Bonnie, thinking that she was there with Lacey, but he didn't see her.

Silently scoffing to himself, he watched as the model got her drink on while hanging on the arm of some Middle Eastern looking guy who sort of reminded him of a young Johnny Depp for some reason.

Damon soon lost interest in the couple and continued on with his night.

It was some time later when Lacey was coming from the lady's room that saw Damon. Picking up yet another glass of champagne from a passing server, she walked up to him.

"Well isn't it a small world." She said, taking a small gulp from the glass.

Turning to her, Damon pasted a fake smile on his handsome face. "Why Lacey, how nice to see you."

She snorted rolling her eyes, seeing right through his ass. "Yeah right."

Damon dropped the phoney smile.

Jabbing him lightly in the chest with her fingers, she smirked. "Now there's the Damon Salvatore I know and...loathed."

He pulled a face. "Funny."

"I try." She said, draining the rest of the glass.

Damon could see that her brown eyes were a little glassy. He wondered briefly how many flutes of champagne she'd had tonight.

"You drink like a fish. You might want to check that." He commented.

Her head tilted to one side as she regarded him curiously, unfazed by his observation. "You know, I'm really surprised you noticed Damon... because you're normally so oblivious to the things right in front of you."

"What?" He chuckled in spite of himself.

"No really. I'm being totally serious right now...it's amazing how fucking clueless you are." She said, shaking her head in bewilderment.

"Is that so?" He leaned towards her. "Then why don't you clue me in." He smirked.

"Okay." She shrugged, like it wasn't shit to her. And looking him dead in his face she told him. "Bonnie's in love with you."

Damon froze.

"...and she has been for a really long time, like ever since she was little." Lacey shook her head. "Can you believe that?" Noticing the look on his face, she cocked a brow. "I see I finally managed to wipe that damn smirk off your face."

The Middle Eastern Johnny Depp appeared at her side. He kissed her cheek. "Okay beautiful, we've made an appearance and now we can leave."

"Finally!" Lacey sighed dramatically, throwing her head back. She hated these boring ass events Danny dragged her to.

"See you around, Salvatore." She said, pushing the empty glass into his stomach.

He took it without saying a word, his mind spinning.

Lacey walked away on Danny's arm. She wouldn't remember this conversation in the morning.

Later on that night, Damon's mind was still reeling. He couldn't stop thinking about what Lacey said.

Elena took off her nightgown and got in bed, climbing on top of him. She kissed his mouth, biting his lip when he didn't respond to her.

"Hey, where are you?" She said, running a hand through her long hair to get it out of the way.

Damon finally focused on her. "What are you talking about? I'm right here."

She huffed. "No you're not Damon. You've been inside your head ever since we left the party. What's going on with you?"

"Nothing's going on." He said, getting irritated.

"Then why aren't we fucking right now?" She asked bluntly.

Damon scoffed in disgust. He moved to get up, pushing her off of him. "Real classy, Elena. Real classy." He said sarcastically getting up from the bed.

"As if you'd know." She said under her breath, pouting as she covered her nakedness.

"Excuse me?" He said, turning around.

"Nothing." She sulked.

But Damon had heard her. "Why are you marrying me?" He suddenly asked.

Her eyes snapped up to meet his. "What?"

His voice was hard as he confronted her. "If I'm so fucking beneath you, Elena then why in the hell are you marrying me?!"

Her eyes widened. "Because I love you."

He shook his head. "Are you sure about that because sometimes I seriously wonder?"

"Stop it!" She yelled. Why was he acting like this?

Damon saw her eyes fill with tears. He sighed, rubbing his face. He had a lot on his mind and right now wasn't the time to have this conversation. He needed to think, to figure some things out and he couldn't do that here.

"Look, I need to get away for a few days."

"What?" She gasped, her panic starting to rise. "Damon, the wedding's in three weeks. We have a lot of things to do. You can't leave."

"Elena, you and your mother have been in charge of this wedding since day one. You don't need me. All I have to do is show up."

Warning bells were sounding off inside her head. Elena got her ass out of bed, going to him, putting her arms around his neck.

"What's going on? Talk to me, Damon...you're scaring me."

Licking his lips, he gently pulled her arms from him. "I just need some time to think. It will only be for a few days."

She searched his eyes and not liking what she saw, she impulsively through her arms around him, clinging to his neck. "No...no... I'm not letting you go!"

He allowed her to hold him for a few moments and then spoke. "You don't have a choice Elena."

Bonnie was sick.

It seemed that she'd caught Damon's flu bug. She felt horrible.

Taking a few days off of work to take care of herself, the majority of her symptoms eventually went away, but that nauseous feeling refused to subside.

Not being able to keep anything down in her stomach, Bonnie made a doctor's appointment.

When Nonna answered the door and saw Damon standing there, she burst into tears.

Without saying a word, he stepped inside the house, wrapping his arms around his grandmother.

He was home.

Bonnie walked out of the doctor's office and needing a moment, she sat down in the empty waiting area.

It was so surreal being back home for Damon. Of course it was great being surrounded by his family and catching up with everyone, but everything here reminded him of Bonnie. He couldn't get her off his mind.

His third day there, Damon let it slip that she was in New York. He wasn't thinking.

Everyone started talking all at once, throwing a million questions at him until finally he had to tell everybody the truth. Well sort of.

He left out the part about Mason attacking Bonnie.

When he was done, Nonna made Damon call Bonnie on the phone because she wanted to hear for herself that her bambina was alright.

But his call went straight to voice mail.

"Bonnie, it's going to be alright." Lacey said, hugging her.

Bonnie shook her head, wiping the tears from her eyes. "No it's not, Lacey. Nothing's ever going to be alright again."

"Are you and Elena having problems, Damon?" Isabella asked gently.

They were sitting alone in the living room. Everyone else had gone to bed. It was late.

He didn't say anything.

"I'm only asking because you haven't mentioned her or the wedding. What's going on son?"

Damon sighed, leaning forward. "Mama, you wouldn't believe me if I told you."

"Try me." She said, squeezing his shoulder.

"Jax is here, Bonnie."

Oh god, she couldn't see him right now!

Seeing the panic on her face, Lacey took charge. "It's okay, I'll get rid of him."

Calming down, Bonnie looked up at her in gratitude. "Thank you, Lace."

Having overheard her grandson's conversation with his mother, Nonna made her presence known by slowly coming into the living room.

"Bambina cried her little heart out the day you left for college." She said, drawing their attention.

Her right hip was now bothering her because she'd stood in the same spot for too long listening to them talk.

The older woman eased herself down into her chair, getting comfortable. "I had never seen anything like it before in my life...a little girl having such feelings."

Nonna continued. "I mistakenly thought that as she grew older she would outgrow those feelings for you. But that didn't happen...they grew right along with her."

She paused in speaking, thinking back to that time. "Abbey was so worried because Bambina didn't seem to be interested in boys like the rest of her friends. Even when she gave Bonnie permission to date, she didn't and I knew why...it was because she was waiting for you."

Damon was silent as he absorbed all of this.

"That child loved you with a woman's heart." She said.

Nonna looked at her grandson carefully. "But she's not a child anymore, is she Damon?"

He snapped out of his thoughts, his blue eyes focusing on his grandmother. She was looking at him like she knew he and Bonnie had slept together.

But that was impossible.

Damon realized he was being ridiculous. Of course she didn't know.

"No she's not, Nonna." He answered.

It was two o'clock in the morning as Bonnie and Lacey sat facing each other on their living room sofa.

"You don't have to keep it, you know." Lacey said quietly.

Bonnie had had days to think about this and she'd finally made her peace with the situation. "I can't do that. It's a part of both of us."

Lacey took her hands, gently squeezing them. "I know that, sweetie...but you're only eighteen. You've only just begun to live your life."

"And I will continue to live it, just in a different way." A tear slipped from her eyes, rolling down her cheek. "I caused all of this and therefore I will be the one to suffer the consequences, not this innocent baby growing inside of me."

A tear fell from Lacey's own eyes. She quickly wiped it away, sniffing softly. "Well, it looks like I'm going to be an auntie."

Bonnie tried to smile, but her face crumbled. "I'm so scared, Lacey."

The model leaned forward, embracing her friend in a tight hug. "I know, but it's okay. I've got you. We're in this together. I promise."

The following week, Bonnie went back to the doctor for her first ultra sound and found out her due date. She was given her prenatal vitamins, along with a slew of pamphlets her doctor wanted her to read.

That evening she sat transfixed looking at the black and white sonogram photo as she sat alone on the sofa.

Lacey was out picking up their dinner.

The doorbell suddenly rang, pulling her from her thoughts.

Bonnie got up from the sofa, stopping to place the photo inside of the magazine on the coffee table.

She froze when she looked through the peephole and saw that it was Damon.

Her heart began to pound as she unlocked the door.

He smiled when he saw that she was dressed in her pajamas. "Isn't it a little early to be going to bed?" He teased lightly.

She swallowed hard. "It's been a long day."

"Oh." He said, waiting for her to invite him in.

She didn't.

So Damon invited himself. "May I come in?"

She hesitated for a slit second before backing back, opening the door wider.

"Where's your better half tonight?" He joked.

"She's out getting dinner."

"Oh." He nodded. "So how have you been?" He asked when things turned silent.

Damon noticed how uncomfortable she looked and he wondered why.

"Fine. I've been fine."She answered. "How about you?" She asked conversationally.

"Good. I went to Mystic Falls for a week." He told her.

Bonnie's eyes widened. "What?"

"Yeah." He chuckled. "I went home."

"Well how is everyone...how's Nonna?"

"She's good...everyone's good. They know you're here in New York." He paused, gauging her reaction. "I had to tell them Bonnie."

She nodded, hugging herself. "How did Nonna take the news...was she upset?"

"Yeah. But not with you. I took the heat. She even made me call you, but you didn't pick up. It went straight to your voicemail." Pause. "Was there a reason why you didn't answer my call Bonnie?"

She looked away, going to sit down on the sofa. "Things have been a little hectic lately."

He followed, coming to sit down next to her. "Anything you want to talk about?" He asked, moving his hand over hers and squeezing it gently.

The doorbell rang and Bonnie pulled her hand away, standing up. "Excuse me."

Damon watched her answer the door and saw that it was her neighbor from down the hall.

"Hey Bonnie, by any chance did my package get delivered here?"

She smiled, nodding her head. "As a matter of fact, it did. Lacey signed for it."

"Great." The guy said, relieved.

"I'll go get it." She said, leaving the door wide up.

Damon and the guy nodded hello. Picking up the magazine in front of him he began to flip through the pages.

Bonnie came back moments later with a medium size yellow envelope. "Here you go, Ben."

"Thanks Bonnie, I really appreciate it. Tell Lace that I owe her."

"Will do." She said, smiling.

They said their goodbyes and Bonnie closed the door.

She walked back into the living room and froze when she saw Damon holding the sonogram in his hand.

He looked up at her with incredulous eyes. "You're pregnant?"
