Bonnie was so happy to have all of the Salvatore's in New York. She didn't realize how much she missed everyone, how much she missed home, until she saw them, especially Nonna.
Bonnie burst into tears, running to hug the older woman like she used to do when she was a little girl.
Damon watched as his grandmother folded her arms around Bonnie, holding her tightly as she kept saying my baby girl over and over again in Italian as she shed a few tears as well.
Everyone let the two have their moment.
"Look at you. You look so grown up." She said, holding Bonnie's face in her wrinkled hands, kissing her cheek.
Bonnie had just gotten off work, so she was dressed in her little power suit and a pair of high heels.
Damon and Bonnie had gotten into a slight argument that morning because she went into work even though technically she was supposed to be on vacation leave for their wedding and honeymoon. But Donaldson had called her into the office because Brett was in the hospital having surgery and he desperately needed Bonnie's help whom Brett had trained very well to run the office.
However Damon thought her going into work was just a convenient excuse to get some breathing room from him because ever since they found out about Jax, she'd been somewhat distant with him.
Wiping the tears from underneath her eyes, Bonnie chuckled softly as Nonna none to shyly inspected her outfit.
Now that the two were no longer clutching each other for dear life, Damon took that opportunity to greet his bride to be.
He kissed her hello. On the lips. Gaining a startled gasp from Bonnie. And when she went to pull back, he pulled her into a hug.
"I'm glad you're home." He said against her ear.
She tensed in his arms.
Damon took for granted how easily she used to melt against him whenever they hugged. He realized that now as he held her stiff body against him.
He released her, looking down into her eyes, but she was quickly pulled from him and into his mother's welcoming embrace before she could say anything.
It was crazy how accepting his family was of the situation. It was almost as if they were relieved he wasn't marrying Elena.
Which they all were. But no on said it. At least not to Damon's face.
Of course everyone was shocked when Damon told them about Bonnie and the baby. But as the surprise wore off, it kind of seemed right for some reason.
Isabella Salvatore bent down, touching Bonnie's flat stomach. "Hello my angel, this is your nonna speaking to you. I'm so excited to meet you."
She kissed Bonnie's belly through her clothes before hugging her once again. "I've always thought of you like a daughter... this just makes it official."
It wasn't long before Nonna made her way into the kitchen and began to cook. And knowing his grandmother like he did, Damon made sure the refrigerator was fully stocked with everything she would need.
Bonnie excused herself from everyone to go change out of her work clothes and take a quick shower, knowing it was going to be a long night.
Damon followed her into the bedroom. "You okay?" He asked, closing the bedroom door.
Damon knew it had to be overwhelming for Bonnie seeing everyone again after being gone from home so long and he suspected that she was thinking about her mother as well.
Reaching behind her to take off a heel, she looked at him. "Yeah, I'm fine."
She took off the other heel and walked to the closet.
"No you're not." He said, going to her. "I know you remember...you can't lie to me."
Before Bonnie could say anything, the bedroom door opened and Damon's cousin Stefan just walked right in holding up a bottle of wine.
"Is this the only booze you got because if so then we seriously need to make a run to the store?" He said.
See, this was the problem with having a big ass family...there was no such thing as privacy, even with a closed door. He should have locked it.
Wanting to take that bottle and crack Stefan over the head with it for barging in on them, Damon took an aggressive step towards his slightly younger cousin and sensing his intention, Bonnie grabbed his arm.
"Stop." She said lowly.
And then turning to the caramel haired twenty four year old, she smiled. "No problem Stef, he'll be glad to take you to the store." She looked back at him. "Isn't that right, Damon?"
"Fine." He said after a moment of staring down at her.
Without her heels on, Bonnie was nowhere near eye level with him.
His pretty blue eyes then gleamed devilishly.
Anybody who really knew Damon Salvatore, knew that fucking look.
Connor used to say whenever Damon got that gleam in his eyes that meant his ass was up to no good.
And sure enough, he hit Bonnie with the one two bang.
"But not without a kiss from my soon bride-to-be." He said almost challengingly.
He almost smirked when he saw Bonnie's eyes widen. She only hesitated for a slight moment before leaning up to kiss him, going for his cheek but Damon turned his head and their lips met.
His eyes remained open. It wasn't a long kiss by any stretch, but definitely more lingering than the little peck on the lips he'd given her earlier.
She pulled away first and Damon knew that if Bonnie's gorgeous toffee complexion was able to blush, her face would be bright red.
Not looking at him, her eyes centered on his chest, Damon was about to lift her chin when that fucking Stefan interrupted them yet again.
"Okay you got your kiss Mr. Big-Shot-New York, so can we go. I'm thirsty for some real alcohol."
Damon's jaw tensed, but his eyes remained on Bonnie who had yet to look at him. "We will finish our conversation tonight once everyone leaves for the hotel."
There was no way his apartment would hold all of his family, so Damon got rooms for them at a really nice hotel. He wanted everyone to be comfortable and besides he and Bonnie needed some time alone before the wedding.
Kissing her forehead, Damon turned to leave.
Bonnie watched him walk way, raising a hand to her still tingling lips. More confused than ever.
Oh shit, Damon thought to himself hours later, covering his face.
After a few glasses of wine, his mother was effectively lit and was speaking her fucking mind. Which at the moment, centered on Elena and the first time they met.
"She acted like she was doing us a favor by marrying into our family...bitch please!"
Everyone roared with laughter except for Damon, Nonna, and Bonnie.
"You should have seen her with her nose all up in the air like she smelled something bad." Isabella continued, mimicking Elena.
"And at dinner, all she ate was a small salad and without any dressing! I kept thinking how on earth was she going to give me grand-babies with no hips?"
She then bent down, spilling some of her wine on the floor as she hugged Bonnie from behind who was sitting at the table.
"My beautiful bambina maybe small, but she got hips!"
Damon watched Bonnie blush prettily with embarrassment, lowering her eyes and he couldn't help but smile.
"And when my son planted his seed inside her..."
Bonnie's embarrassment quickly turned into mortification.
Damon stood to his feet, clearing his throat. "Okay it's getting late and the wedding rehearsal is tomorrow, so I think it's time to get a move on to the hotel and get some shut-eye. The charter bus is waiting outside."
Damon had rented a charter bus for his family to make it easier for them to get around the city.
Everyone began to get up, grabbing their coats. Damon's little five year old nephew who was going to be the ring bearer in the wedding ran up to Bonnie and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
His name was Zach and Bonnie used to be his babysitter. He missed Bonnie terribly when she left Mystic Falls.
"I'll see you tomorrow, okay Bonnie?" The little boy said, hugging her neck.
She melted.
Damon's older brother Matteo stood over them, holding the boy's coat in his hands.
He smiled. "Okay son, let her go. You don't want to make your uncle Damon jealous."
Everyone laughed, including Damon who chuckled, having watched the whole scene.
"Don't worry Zach, that's never going to happen." She said, ruffling the boy's blond head. He was the only true blond in the family, besides Stefan whose hair was a few shades darker.
Nonna was the next one to hug Bonnie goodbye. Because everyone was there, they didn't have enough time to really talk and Nonna wanted to have some alone time with Bonnie especially after witnessing her and Damon's strange behavior tonight.
"Tomorrow we will spend time together...just you and me, okay." She said, holding her face and kissing it.
"Yes ma'am." Bonnie said, respectfully.
Nonna then looked down, touching Bonnie's belly. "Goodnight little baby." She said in Italian.
Isabella handed Nonna her coat and Damon helped her put it on before going to stand in front of Bonnie.
He touched her cheek. "I'm going to ride with them to the hotel to make sure everything's in place and I'll be back. Wait up for me because we need to talk." He said, searching her eyes.
She nodded.
He bent his head to kiss her mouth, but Bonnie turned her face. So he kissed her cheek instead, not wanting to address this in front of his family.
Nonna frowned, having seen what happened.
Everyone got their hugs in with Bonnie, telling her goodnight and five minutes later, she found herself alone.
She began to clean up the slight mess the family left behind and by the time Damon came back, everything was in order and Bonnie was getting ready for bed.
Already having taken a shower, she washed her face and brushed her teeth. Damon found her in the bathroom, doing up her hair for the night.
He leaned against the bathroom door, watching her.
"Everything good at the hotel?" She asked, feeling somewhat nervous now that they were all alone.
"Yeah, everyone's settled in nicely." He responded.
"Good."
He came into the bathroom and Bonnie's heart began to beat double time as he stood behind her. He leaned forward, bracing his hands against the counter on either side of her.
Bonnie dropped her hands from her hair as they stared at each other in the mirror.
"I know for a fact that I don't have bad breath and nor do I suffer from body odor, so do you care to explain why it is you pull away or turn from me every time I try to kiss you?"
Damon literally had her trapped.
She swallowed hard. "I don't know what you're talking about." She said, lamely.
Having had enough of this, Damon was tired of playing fair because it wasn't getting him anywhere with Bonnie who for some crazy reason was blaming him because Jax killed a man and was on the run from the police.
"Oh yeah, then let's see about that, shall we?" He said, turning Bonnie's head towards him and capturing her lips before she knew what was happening.
His kiss was so heady that it made Bonnie's head spin, but why was it that everything that happened between them was always done for the completely wrong reasons?
Bonnie didn't understand. This was the first time that he was really kissing her and it was a fucking test!
She pressed her hand against his chest, pulling away and turning her head.
"And there it is." He said somewhat throaty licking his lips, liking the way she tasted. His tongue having slipped inside her mouth for a brief moment before she pulled away.
Bonnie angrily pushed his arm down from the counter, walking away.
"I'm not responsible for what Jax did, Bonnie!" He yelled after her.
She froze.
And then it hit him. "And neither are you." He said more softly when he finally understood what was going on with her.
She blamed herself for what that piece of trash did.
Damon hitting at the root of it all caused Bonnie to lash out angrily because how was it that he was able to astutely discern so clearly her feelings regarding Jax, but yet be totally blind of her feelings for him.
"You just think you know everything, don't you Damon...well you don't know shit...you're a fucking idiot...a blind, clueless, big dumb idiot!" She yelled.
He looked at her with a gaping mouth. Stunned by her outburst. This was not his Bonnie.
Not appreciating her cussing and all the name calling, Damon said what was on his mind.
"You know Bonnie, sometimes you really make me want to put you over my knee."
Her spine stiffened for a number of reasons, but the main one being the implication he still thought of her as a child.
"Try it and you'll be walking funny tomorrow, Salvatore." She said, sounding just like Lacey.
It made Damon's teeth grind. "It might just be worth it!" He shot back heatedly.
"Oh really now...well you know what Damon, you can just go fuck yourself for all I care!"
That did it.
Not being about to take that shit coming out of her mouth a moment longer, Damon crossed the room picking up a startled Bonnie and carried her to the bed.
He sat down, putting her over his knee.
He raised his hand. "Damon don't." She whispered with such humiliation in her voice.
It was one thing him doing this when they were playing around, but they weren't playing right now.
Damon dropped his hand, releasing her and Bonnie moved off his lap, sitting back on her knees with her head bowed.
He gently lifted her chin, moving her hair out the way, so he could see her face. "Hey, I'm sorry." He said softly.
He then kissed her cheek, right by the corner of her mouth. "I didn't mean to upset you."
His warm breath brushed against her lips and Bonnie slightly turned her head towards his mouth in response.
Damon licked his lips, remembering how sweet she tasted earlier.
Both of them knew what was about to happen. The air was charged with their desire.
"Damon...?" She whispered softly, wanting confirmation that this moment was really happening between them and it wasn't just her.
She got her answer when he took her mouth in a gentle, yet searing kiss.
Bonnie moaned softly, her hand coming up to rest on his forearm as he held her face.
She leaned into him, kissing him more aggressively, wanting more. Oh god how she wanted more.
Bonnie wanted to feel him inside her, desperately wanting that close connection she'd only briefly experienced once with him.
Damon could feel himself growing hard, so he pulled away before things got out of hand.
"No, no...don't. Please." She begged, grabbing hold of his face and crashing her mouth to his once again.
But Damon broke the kiss, gently but firmly pushing her back. "No Bonnie."
She felt like weeping.
Why did he keep doing this to her?
Was it because he wasn't attracted to her even the slightest bit? That the only way he could sleep with her was if he thought she was Elena?
Bonnie jerked free from him, allowing her anger to take hold. She got off the bed.
"Bonnie wait." He said softly, gently grabbing her arm to stop her from leaving.
"No!" She said heatedly, yanking her arm free from his grasp. "I'm so damn tired of waiting for you Damon...I'm done!"
