Only mere feet from the bedroom door, Bonnie's big dramatic exit was cut short when Damon captured her slender arm in his hand, bringing her to a stop.
"Exactly, what do you mean by you're done?" He said with raised eyebrows as he backed her against the wall.
All was blocked out except for hypnotic, penetrating blue eyes and expensive Armani cologne that filled her senses as he loomed over her.
Lifting her chin, Bonnie refused to be intimidated by him, but her heart quickened at his nearness.
It always did.
"Exactly that...I'm done."
Damon needed specifics, "With what exactly? Me...the wedding?"
Some of the bravado left Bonnie and her chin trembled just a little because that wasn't what she wanted at all.
In spite of everything Bonnie wanted to share her life with him. She wanted to be his wife. But things couldn't go on like this.
Everything she ever dreamed of was coming to pass. Just not how she pictured. Things were so skewed.
And what made it worse was that Bonnie found it so hard to talk to Damon about how she felt. How could she truly open up and express herself when he was ignorant of her feelings for him. He would think she was crazy if she said some of the things on her mind.
It was a fine line to walk in knowing what to say and not say to him. Bonnie found herself stumbling awkwardly for the right words which most of the time just left her not saying anything at all .
Swallowing the knot in her throat, she asked a question of her own. "Can you blame me if I were, Damon?"
Searching his eyes, she continued. "Every time I try to get close to you, you pull away and I don't understand, especially after tonight when you were the one to initiated things."
She stopped for a moment briefly closing her eyes as she shook her head. "I shouldn't have to beg you to be with me...I want us to have a real marriage, Damon, with everything that entails, but if you can't do that then I can't go through with this wedding...I won't."
There she said it. Maybe in a round about way, but he understood now that she didn't want to have a sexless marriage with him.
Bonnie gasped softly in surprise when he took her face in his hands.
"First of all, you will never have to beg me for anything. That I promise you, Bonnie." He pressed his forehead against hers, closing his eyes. They shared the same breath before he pulled back a little and continued, gazing into her eyes.
"And secondly but most importantly, the reason why I stopped things just now is because the next time we are together it will be on our wedding night as husband and wife."
Damon knew that Bonnie didn't sleep with Jax. He found out a few days ago when he accidentally overheard her talking on the phone with Lacey and it did something to him knowing that no other man had touched her.
"Do you understand now?" He asked softly.
Bonnie's entire body grew warm at his words. She bit her bottom lip, nodding her head.
"We are going to do things right this time." He said, still feeling the guilt of taking her virginity.
That never should have been her first time.
And on their wedding night, Damon would make it up to her.
The next morning Lacey came over bright and early to help Bonnie pack for her honeymoon. She was trying to be a good maid of honor, so pleased that Bonnie had asked her.
"I still don't know if I should wear my hair up or down, curly or straight. The wedding's tomorrow and I still haven't decided!"
Lacey was sitting cross-legged on the bed folding clothes when Bonnie's slightly hysterical tone caused her to look up.
She immediately got off the bed, going to her friend and grasping her trembling hands. "Hey sweetie, calm down. It doesn't matter how you wear your hair because regardless you're going to look so amazingly beautiful."
Tears filled Bonnie's green eyes as she looked up at her best friend. "I can't believe all of this is actually happening Lacey...Damon's finally going to be mine."
Lacey smiled at her. "You did it. You got your man, girl."
"And all it took was her getting knocked up."
Bonnie and Lacey turned their heads towards the bedroom door at the same time to see Elena standing there.
"How in the hell did you get in here?" Lacey asked.
"With a key of course." Elena said, holding it up. "In the heat of things, Damon forgot to ask for it back." She said not taking her eyes off Bonnie.
"Well thank you for returning it. You can leave now." Lacey said through gritted teeth.
Elena ignored her as she continued to stare at Bonnie. "I underestimated you...you don't look like the typical man stealing whore."
"Oh hell naw!" Lacey exploded, taking a step in Elena's direction.
Bonnie grabbed her arm, stilling her. "No, I got this."
Looking back at the angry long haired brunette she finally addressed her. "How could I steal Damon when he never really belonged to you in the first place, Elena?"
"Damon was mine, you little tramp...I loved him!" She screamed, balling up her fists.
Bonnie tightened her hold around Lacey's arm when she made a move.
"When you love someone Elena, you don't try to change everything about them and make them into someone else." Bonnie said calmly.
"I was trying to make him better!"
This made Bonnie angry and she shook her head vehemently. "No. What you were trying to do was make him acceptable! For your family and your stupid friends. But if you loved him...I mean truly loved him Elena, then you wouldn't have cared what anyone thought about him!
"And what do you know about love, Bonnie? You're just a fucking child playing house! You have no idea what's it like to be with a grown man!" Elena seethed because Bonnie's words affected her more than she cared to admit.
"You're right, I don't...but I do know about love... because I have loved Damon Salvatore all of my life." She revealed to an astonished Elena. "And tomorrow I will be his wife."
"Now!" Lacey shot back, rolling her neck like the ghetto girl she definitely wasn't.
"You should go Elena. We have nothing more to say to each other. Damon will be home soon with his family and I want to spare everyone any unpleasantness."
Elena swallowed hard. Like it or not, by tomorrow afternoon Damon and Bonnie would be married.
Her father was right.
Never let another woman take care of your man.
She should have put a stop to this shit when it first started by putting her foot down and telling Damon no when he told her that Bonnie would be living with him, but at the time she didn't do it because she didn't see the harm.
Bonnie Bennett didn't look like a threat.
But oh how wrong she was. Because now her man was gone and this little bitch would be the one getting his dick. She just knew Bonnie was going to love that shit too.
It was the thought of him touching her that Elena hated the most.
"Damon's a hotblooded male, so of course he's going to fuck you, but let me give you a little advice. Don't ever mistake the sex for love, Bonnie. You''ll be a fool if you do... because Damon will never love you." Elena said, bitterly.
Bonnie's spine stiffened. Elena's parting shot hitting its mark.
"Get out before I kick your boney ass, you stupid bitch!" Lacey yelled.
Elena finally spared her a glance. "Seriously Lacey, isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black." Her brow eyes sliding down the length of Lacey's equally skinny frame. "But don't worry, I'm done here." She said, looking at Bonnie who remained silent, her caramel skin having grown somewhat paler.
Elena threw the key at her feet. "Here's something old."
When she was gone, Bonnie silently walked to the phone on the nightstand, picking it up.
"Who are you calling?" Lacey asked.
"The super. I want him to change the locks today just in case Elena made a spare key."
All through the wedding rehearsal, Damon noticed how distracted Bonnie was. She wasn't present mentally with them. She was in her head, just going through the motions.
More than once, he was tempted to tell everyone to leave the room, so that he could talk to her alone, but who was he kidding? His family wouldn't have listen to him if he had. They didn't take his shit, especially his mother and grandmother.
So he bit his tongue, biding his time until they all went to dinner that evening. He would have some alone time with Bonnie while they drove in his car to the restaurant, his family thankfully riding on the charter bus.
But his plan was foiled when Nonna and Zach decided to ride to the restaurant with them.
Dinner lasted a couple of hours with some of the patrons inside the restaurant happy to see the large group departing when they did because they had been so loud.
The guys were taking Damon out, sort of like a bachelor party type thing though no one actually called it that.
Lacey and Anna wanted to take Bonnie out too, but she didn't feel up to going to a club and partying.
Being pregnant just zapped all of her energy.
Once outside the restaurant, Damon pulled Bonnie aside. They wouldn't be seeing each other again until the wedding tomorrow. Bonnie would be staying overnight at the hotel with his family.
He took both of her hands in his, bringing them to his chest. "I haven't been alone with you all day...I feel like something's wrong. Are you okay?"
Softly clearing her throat, Bonnie nodded. "I'm fine." When Damon came home, she didn't tell him about Elena showing up.
Damon's friend Enzo came up from behind interrupting them as he grabbed Damon's shoulder, patting him on the back. "Let's go, mate...the night awaits!"
Damon's jaw tensed. Couldn't he just have one fucking minute alone with Bonnie? Got-damn!
Bonnie saw his frustration and almost reached up to caress his cheek. She didn't though, but began to back away instead.
"Be safe alright." She said to him.
"You too." He said after a moment, staring at her.
This made her smile a little and she stopped, shaking her head. "I'm not the one going out for a night of debauchery." She teased.
He smiled, chuckling slightly and allowed himself to be pulled away by Enzo.
"You have to be patient with him, bambina. Give him a chance to catch up to you." Nonna said softly, hugging Bonnie to her side.
The two of them were alone in Bonnie's suite, sitting on the bed. She had her head on Nonna's shoulder. She was crying.
They'd been talking for hours.
"Men, they are not like us. See we feel with our hearts first. But with men, they are different. They feel with their peckers first and then the love follows."
Bonnie couldn't help it, she laughed, wiping her tears away.
She raised her head and Nonna pulled a clean handkerchief from the pocket of her robe, putting it to Bonnie's nose.
"Blow." She said.
Bonnie did as she was told.
"Good girl." Nonna said, when she was done.
"I love him so much Nonna."
"I know." She said, leaning her head against Bonnie's.
When Nonna left for the night, Bonnie fell asleep having cried herself to exhaustion. Around two o'clock in the morning she was woken from her sleep by a knock at the door.
"Bonnie, open the door. It's me."
"Damon?" She said sleepily, raising her head off the soft pillow.
Another knock sounded at the door.
"Bonnie!" He called more loudly.
She got out of bed and turned on the lights before going to the door.
"Hey." He said softly, leaning hard against the door frame when he finally saw her. She looked so pretty in her little red bandana.
Bonnie could smell the alcohol on him. He was drunk.
"Why do you always come to me in the middle of the night when you get drunk like this?"
He ignored her question, reaching through the door to touch her face. "I was worried about you. We haven't talked all day. Something's wrong."
Bonnie closed her eyes at the feel of his touch.
"Let me in." He said.
She opened her eyes and after a moment dropped her hand from the door, moving back to allow him space to enter the room.
As soon as he closed the door, he pressed her against the wall.
Bonnie gasped softly.
He leaned his forehead against hers, licking his lips as he grasped her hips. "You can't back out of this wedding."
"I'm not going to." She said softly.
He closed his eyes, releasing a breath.
"In a few hours, you're going to be my wife." He said, pressing himself more intimately against her.
Bonnie's breath quickened.
"And I'll be able to have you...but not like before. I'll be gentle. I promise I'll be gentle with you Bonnie. I won't hurt you."
Her hands reached up to touch his face. "I know that, Damon."
"I want you so much." He confessed softly. "I tried to fight it because it felt wrong being attracted to you... I've known you since you were born. You're Connor's little sister." He swallowed hard, thinking about his dead best friend. "But things have changed now... and we will be married."
"Yes." Bonnie said looking into his eyes.
"Kiss me." He said, holding her stare.
Leaning up on her tiptoes, Bonnie pressed her lips against his and for once Damon didn't pull away.
