Loyalty of a Patient Friend
Sav
I had always been a little abnormal. There was nothing strange about that. What really caused my form of abnormality and the strange occurrences around me was my magic. I couldn't explain it at the time, but every time I tried, my parents would brush it off as "just my imagination". I knew the truth now. They couldn't just tell me that I was just imagining it because now, I knew, that I was a witch.
I looked to Ravenclaw's table, to see my brother Christian looking over at Oliver's sister, Eleanor. He was still in love with her, anyone could see. Hell, even Professor Snape could see it, and he's pretty oblivious.
"Hey Vannah," I heard a voice whisper in my ear. I jumped about a metre on the bench, to then turn around and face my best friend, Oliver Wood. He was quickly followed by my two partners-in-crime, Fred and George Weasley.
"Hey Ollie, Weasley Twins," I greeted them as I also nodded in response.
"Hey Savy-Pie! What are you staring into space at?" Fred asked me, as he sat down on my left side, while Oliver sat down on my right. George had sat down across from me.
"I'm looking at Christian. He keeps staring at Eleanor, Ollie. It's almost like he's still in love with her," I whispered, as I continued to watch my brother's movements and actions towards the Gryffindor Prefect. I felt Oliver lean closer to my ear. I shivered as he practically breathed down my neck.
"He is," he whispered in my ear. I felt my head snap towards his, with what I was sure was a look of complete and utter disbelief.
"Are you serious?" I asked, as I looked to my older brother, who practically had girls hanging off every part of his body.
"I'm absolutely sure of it! I overheard them talking the other day. He told her that the Hufflepuff girl that Eleanor caught him kissing had slipped a love potion into his drink and that he was under the influence of the potion. I don't know if she believed him though." Oliver's Scottish accent was enough to make any girl swoon. This is a proven fact. But when he's whispering into your ear, with said accent and about two inches away from your face, it's an acceptable feat to want to melt into a gooey puddle and scream like a fan-girl.
"You can't be serious," I replied, as I spared a look at Oliver. His face showed no signs of funny pranks or lies. He was completely and utterly serious.
"But why would Christian wait so long to tell Eleanor?" Fred asked, as he spared a glance at the Gryffindor Prefect. Eleanor was the epitome of graceful, brave and courageous. She sat with her other fifth year friends, on the top of the table in the middle of the Gryffindor House table, laughing and eating small pieces of fruits and crackers. Her laugh was that of a musical note, one that could be confused as a siren's call. She tossed her head back as she laughed along with her friends, and it was amazing that she didn't have any more suitors than Christian. Her long red hair was enough to make any guy follow.
I heard the protests from Fred, George and Oliver as I walked over to the group of older Gryffindor's, before I even knew what I was doing. As I got closer and closer to them, I realised that what I was about to do would probably make or break my future as a respected Gryffindor.
"Ellie?" I asked, as I reached the older girl. She stopped talking to her friends and looked at me with a smile.
"Hi Sav! What can I do for you sweetie?" She asked as she turned her body to face me, to give me all of her undivided attention.
"Do you still love Christian?" I asked her, with only seriousness in my voice. Every single one of her friends looked shocked at my question.
"What?" Eleanor asked in complete and utter disbelief.
"Do you still love Christian?" I repeated my question slowly, so that it was obvious to her what I was asking. I was a loyal friend to everybody, but she needed to know that Christian wasn't lying. I could feel it in my bones. He was family, and I could tell if family was lying. He wasn't.
"I don't mean to be offensive Savannah, but that's really none of your business," she replied slowly and in a tone that wasn't supposed to be taken offensively, but it was.
"It is my business if you refuse to forgive him. He told you the truth, yet you still deny your feelings for him, and his feelings for you. I might only be eleven, Eleanor, but I know the truth behind my brother's words. He loves you, but you are not going to forgive him for something that he didn't know he was doing. You might be brave and courageous Eleanor, but why aren't you brave enough to see that you belong with him?" Tears were starting to flow down Eleanor's face now, and I knew that I had made a huge mistake.
"Savannah Naida," a voice behind me made me spin around in shock. Christian stood in front of me with a shocked and almost disappointed look on his face. "What have you done sister?" He asked, as he looked at a tear-ridden Eleanor behind me. I had hurt her, I knew that, but I wasn't going to stand back and watch something incredible pass them by.
"I'm just doing something that not one of you had the guts to do!" I answered, as I raised my voice at him. Christian looked past me to Eleanor and started to make his way toward her. We had a crowd looking on toward us now, but I didn't regret a single thing. This was my loyalty and patience towards them.
Eleanor stood up from her position on the table and walked past me. She stopped and spun around to stare me right in the eyes.
"Why did you do this Savannah? Why did you think this could help us?" She asked me, as tears still slid down her pale cheeks.
"Eleanor, believe me. Everything Christian said was true, and deep down inside, you know it! Why won't you give him another chance? You still love him. I can see it in your eyes. Forgive him, Eleanor." I whispered as I edged closer to her shaking form. She was still in love with him. I knew it, everyone knew it.
"Miss Chambers," a voice that held power and authority spoke behind me in a stern, yet kind voice. I turned around slowly to see Professor McGonagall standing behind me. "What exactly is going on here?" She asked, as she took in Eleanor's distressed state, my brother looking worried and somewhat annoyed, and then Fred, George and Oliver behind me, looking on in shock.
"Nothing Professor," I whispered, as I looked down to my feet.
"Thirty points from Gryffindor for judging others, one of them being your prefect. I had higher hopes for you Miss Chambers, don't make me wrong again," she said sternly, as she turned around and walked toward the staff table at the end of the Hall.
"I'm sorry Eleanor, but that is what I believe in." I whispered, as I passed the crying prefect, and back to Fred, George and Oliver.
"Savannah, what was the point of that?" Fred asked me, as he looked at me with something akin to shock and disgrace.
"You'll see," I smiled as I watched my brother walk over to Eleanor. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders in a comforting gesture and was shocked when she wrapped her arms around him and started crying into his shoulder.
I was sorry that I had hurt her, truly I was. But I don't do anything without a motive behind it. My motive behind making Eleanor upset? Christian to be the knight, swoop in, and get her to realise her true feelings for him. The plan was fool-proof! Well, at least I hoped so.
"Vannah, you're a genius!" Oliver whisper-yelled, as he finally understood what I had done and why I had done it. Fred and George looked at him as if he was crazy.
"Oliver, are you insane? She just made your sister cry!" George exclaimed, as he looked between us as if we were being possessed by aliens.
"George, calm down!" I whisper-yelled, as I slapped a hand over his open mouth. George was less than impressed, as he stuck his tongue out and licked the palm of my hand. I pulled my hand back in utter disgust and proceeded to wipe it on my robes.
"Why should I Sav? You just embarrassed her in front of all her friends!" He cried out, as he struggled with Fred's hand that was desperately trying to cover his brother's mouth to avoid the biggest scene in the history of Hogwarts.
"George, the reason I made Ellie upset is so Christian could swoop in and comfort her, so she can realise that she still has feelings for him, and him for her! So then they will get back together, and everything will be alright again!" I whisper-yelled at George as my patience started to wear thin.
George was silent for a moment, as he processed what I had just so enthusiastically told him. Fred, Oliver and I were silent while we waited and practically listened to the gears turn in George's head.
"I feel like I just turned eighty," Fred jokingly whispered to Oliver and me. Oliver rolled his eyes and then turned his attention back to George, while I chuckled a little under my breath.
"Oh!" George exclaimed as his eyes lit up like it was the fourth of July. "Sav, you're a genius!" George whisper-yelled at me, as he started to bounce on the balls of his feet like a little kid on Christmas morning.
"Of course I am!" I exclaimed, as I poked my tongue out in mock cuteness.
Oliver, Fred, George and I then proceeded to sit down at the Gryffindor table to finish breakfast. I piled even more delicious traditional breakfast foods.
"Sav, what do you have first?" Oliver asked me, as he shovelled some bacon and egg omelette into his mouth, as we only had about five minutes left of breakfast before classes started.
"Well since it's a Thursday, Herbology and DADA," I replied as I ripped off a piece of toast and munched quickly because I was starving!
"I've got Care of Magical Creatures, so I can walk you down to Herbology and then pick you up afterwards?" He asked, as he turned his full attention toward me.
"Sure Ollie, that'd be nice," I smiled, as the bell tolled, which signalled us all to stuff all the food we can into our mouths, grab our book bags and practically sprint to our first class.
I stood up from the table and was about to grab my book bag, when someone put a firm hand around my upper arm and spun me around.
The face I saw wasn't really what I was expecting, but nonetheless, I was still a little scared by the murderous look on my brother's face.
"What the hell were you thinking Savannah? Eleanor is in tears, and I can't calm her down at all! What made you do something like that?!" He growled out, as he waved his arms around in the air, like he was trying to ward off hippogriffs.
"Trust me Christian, you'll thank me later," I glared at my older brother and held my gaze steady.
"How will I ever thank you for making her upset Savannah?! I can't believe that you could be so selfish! Mother and Father will not be impressed with you at all! I will never forgive you for this," he finished as he spat at me with venom in his voice, spun around and stormed out of the Great Hall.
I stood back and watched him go, my shoulders stiff and tears threatening to drip from the corners of my eyes.
I felt two soft hands on my shoulders and turned my head slightly to see Oliver standing behind me, with a very upset look on his face, like he was feeling my pain.
"It's for their own good Vannah," he whispered in my ear, as he rubbed his hands up and down my arms in a comforting gesture. "Come on, let's get you to Herbology," Oliver placed a hand on my elbow and we then walked out of the Great Hall.
"Why do I feel so guilty Ollie?" I asked as we continued our way down the long maze of hallways, and out into the courtyard.
"You only feel guilty now, but it's all going to fix itself, you'll see," he replied, as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, pulled me into his side and pressed a kiss to my temple.
We continued to walk like this until we got down to the greenhouses, Fred and George already there waiting.
"Ollie, I don't wanna do this. I just wanna go hide underneath my bed covers and not even bother to get up in the morning," I whispered, as I turned to face him. Oliver simply smiled at me and pressed a light kiss on my forehead.
"You'll be fine Vannah, just don't stick your fingers near the mandrakes!" Oliver laughed as he poked his tongue out at me in a "cute" fashion.
I couldn't help the smile that graced my face as I looked into Oliver's chocolate brown eyes.
"There's the smile that you know I love!" Oliver yelled as he started to tickle my ribs.
I started to laugh loudly, whilst trying to squirm away from Oliver.
"St-stop it Ollie!" I laughed as I tried to pull Oliver's hands away from me.
"Mr Wood, Miss Chambers!" A harsh voice rang shrilly through the empty valley and made both of us freeze in complete fright. "Stop that right this instant!" Professor Sprout yelled as she made her way closer to where we stood.
"Yes Professor," Oliver replied as he straightened his posture, while I straightened my uniform.
"Get to class Wood," Professor Sprout sent Oliver away with a flourish of her hand.
"Yes Professor," Oliver replied, as Professor Sprout went and unlocked the door to the greenhouse. "I'll see you later Vannah," Oliver whispered as he kissed me on the cheek and gave me my book bag.
"See you later Ollie," I whispered, as I turned away and made my way into the greenhouse. I walked over to Angelina, Eila and Alicia, sat down and opened my Herbology textbook to the page that Professor Sprout had written on the chalkboard.
"Looks like you and Wood are getting nice and close Sivvy," Alicia whispered, as she sent a wink in my direction.
"For the last time Ali, we're just friends," I replied, as I rolled my eyes and stuck out my tongue the same way Oliver had done just mere minutes ago.
"Sure, we'll believe that," Angelina started as she, Alicia and Eila shared a look they thought I couldn't see. "For now," she finished as the air around me was filled with soft sounds of laughter, so as to avoid getting in trouble with the Professor.
"First years, please copy down all main points from pages 358-365. That will be our lesson today and I want you to memorise these points before our next lesson. Quietly now," Professor Sprout's voice rang out through the near empty greenhouse.
I rummaged through my book bag for parchment, a quill and my inkpot. I pulled each out gently, so as not to make much noise, (I was a goodie-two shoes, sue me), and placed them on the table.
I picked up my giant, snow white owl feather and dipped the tip into the charcoal substance. I then pulled it quickly over the parchment and started to drag the tip of the quill over the yellowed parchment.
"Shrivelfig. Endemic to; Abyssinia. Roots; 'Aggressive', allowing the plant to survive in any environment. Leaves; Ingredient in 'Shrinking Solution' and 'Elixir to Induce Euphoria'. Have medicinal properties. Distinctions; Liquid in plant is purple." I thought as my quill danced across the parchment leaving my elegant, curly script in its midst.
"Psst, Savy-Pie," I heard a whisper in my ear, breaking my concentration away from "Shrivelfig's" and whoever had whispered the nickname which I had gained from the Dynamic Duo.
"What?" I mouthed, in almost an irritated way.
"What's a Shrivelfig?" Fred whispered as George looked on just as confused as his twin brother.
"Read the book Fred," I replied as I ground my teeth together in my mouth to avoid getting very, very annoyed at the twins who had quickly become my partners in crime.
I turned my attention back to the parchment and dipped my quill back in my inkpot.
"The Shrivelfig is a magical plant, the best specimens of which are found in Abyssinia. The flowers of the Shrivelfig grow inside the fruit, both of which are purple in col…"
"Psss, Sav," Eila whispered which completely broke my concentration, once again. I arched my eyebrows, and looked at Eila with a look I bet could kill.
"What?" I hissed, as I was more focused on finishing the work now instead of the study periods, considering I already had a Potions essay, Potions homework and an essay for DADA. Eila looked at me before she sheepishly pointed to my parchment.
I looked down at my elegant script, but instead of seeing a half-finished paragraph about "shrivelfig's", all I saw was Oliver's name, in my curly handwriting.
"Oops," I whispered as I felt the heat creep up the back of my neck. How did I end up writing Oliver's name when I was focusing on my Herbology textbook?
"'Just friends' sure," Angelina whispered as they all giggled and rolled their eyes. Oh this was going to come back and bite me in the butt.
"Savy-Pie, why are you writing Oliver's name?"
Uh-oh?
So, again I would just like to say I am so sorry about the late update!

REVIEW RESPONSES
nymphxdora: I did have trouble writing from Oliver's P.O.V, but I did have fun trying it out :P The Christian and Oliver interactions were very interesting to write! Probably my favourite part was seeing them both protect their sisters! But I hoped you liked this chapter just as much as you have loved all the others :P
Thanks for reading everyone!
Kisses from Australia,
~Danger xx
