A/N: Wow, long time since I updated. My new prison is shame! My eyes hurt from staring at this damn laptop screen!
I own nothing!
'But I can't compete with the she-wolf, who has brought me to my knees. What do you see in those yellow eyes? 'Cause I'm falling to pieces' She wolf/ David Guetta
"AHH-CHOO!"
Myrrah scooted closer to the fire, placing her hands outwards to the flames. Korra was curled up by her side, her fur already dry and toasty. Myrrah pouted at the wolf in envy. She was sleeping so peacefully while she was freezing her ears off! Her skin was icy to the touch. The only warm part of her left was her core and of course the side of her thigh that Korra was pressed against.
"You okay?"
Myrrah looked across the fire to see Ryuk. They had swam together for a good while, well into the night. Out of nowhere, the temperature dropped dangerously low. Ryuk had managed to build them a fire. At the moment, they were thinking of how they were going to explain their breaking curfew to their parents.
"Yeah," Myrrah's answer was followed by another sneeze.
"Wanna come back to the mountains with me?" Myrrah felt heat gather in cheeks at her offer. She shook her head. Myrrah was sure Hell awaited her at the Palace in the clouds. Not even her Baa-chan will show her leniency. Ryuk could tell from the look on her face that she was deep in thought.
"You're gunna get sick," Ryuk's voice brought back her attention. "Come here," She looked up and saw him offering his hand. She felt the heat return to her cheeks and an uncontrollable smile. She didn't respond, only scooted towards the wolf prince until she could feel his heartbeat. He was even toastier than Korra. Ryuk wrapped his arms around Myrrah's waist and pulled her onto his lap. He rested his head atop hers.
"Tell me about your family," Myrrah purred.
Ryuk was taken back by Myrrah's attractive tone but indulged her.
"I have five older brothers,"
"Five?!" Myrrah couldn't believe it. She was always hearing that boys were a little harder to raise than girls but six wolf boys sounded like a pain in the butt. "That's a lot,"
"Yup, I think my parents have gotten a total of 2 hours of sleep in the past 10 years,"
Myrrah giggled and snuggled closer to him. They sat in silence enjoying the heat and sound of the fire. Myrrah didn't feel those ridiculous butterflies anymore. Only the calm serenity that comes from true love. She just didn't know it yet.
She felt herself falling asleep with Ryuk's lulling breathing. She was almost out of consciousness when she smelled something dangerously familiar. She tilted her head. Ryuk and Korra were both asleep. No wonder they didn't smell what was coming. Myrrah shot up and screamed as loud as she could. She pushed Ryuk away just as the whip of yellow light connected with the ground, barely missing them. Korra woke up at the sound of Myrrah's screams. She began to growl at their attacker, but almost immediately began to cower away. More whips of light fell upon them.
"What the hell was that?!" Ryuk sat up from the ground, clutching Myrrah's waist.
"Oh no!" Myrrah knew this scent and power. Sesshomaru had found them! If he caught them, he would kill Ryuk! "Run!"
"Myrrah, wait!" Ryuk and Korra began to run after her.
"We need to split up! I'll catch up with you later!" Myrrah called behind her to them. Sesshomaru was after her, not them
Myrrah ran faster. She smelled fresh water close by. If she could get to it, Sesshomaru would completely lose her scent.
"Myrrah!"
Sesshomaru shouted behind her. Myrrah willed her exhausted legs to go faster. She refused to be grounded again! Although she was probably risking worse punishment by fleeing. Her Sessha was powerful but her youthful agility was superior to his. When the river came into view, Myrrah didn't hesitate to swan dive in. She sunk to the bottom, the ripples and bubbles disappearing. Not bothering to wait until the shadows passed, Myrrah followed the flow. She didn't come up once for air.
She didn't know how long she was holding her breathe, but it must have been a new record. When Myrrah finally resurfaced in the small river, she had no idea where she was. She didn't even know how long she had been fleeing/swimming. All she cared about was if Ryuk and Korra were alright. Sesshomaru was not very benevolent. He wasn't above harming children. She dragged herself onto the shore and sat on the grass getting back all her air. Too bad the second you think you're safe, is the second Hell finds you.
"Myrrah...," She felt a chill run up her spine. Before she could even process the color of his shoes, Myrrah was swept away. Seconds later she found herself in her bedroom. She looked around to see the livid Lord of West. Her guardian was usually calm and very in control of his emotions. This was one of the rare occasions where you would see Sesshomaru's eyes red.
"Sessha-"
"You are confined to your chambers until I say otherwise,"
That was all Sesshomaru said before he left her alone.
"Sessha!" Myrrah called after him. She hoped that maybe if she explained why she left the palace, Sesshomaru would be a bit less harsh. When she touched the shoji, it shocked her and threw her several feet backwards. She sat up and let out a roar. He put a damn barrier around her bedroom. She through herself onto her futon and screamed into her pillow. She couldn't demand answers if she was trapped in her room. Sessha and Rin definitely knew something. Her similarities with the red flash was no coincidence.
It was several hours later when Rin came in with Myrrah's dinner.
"Thought you might be hungry...," Rin set the tray down on a table. She looked at Myrrah, who was sulking. She wondered if she could breathe. The pup's face was completely buried in her pillow.
"I saw something...before," Myrrah's voice was muffled but Rin could understand.
"What?" Rin sat on the bed next to her.
Myrrah swallowed hard. "I-I know I'm adopted," She swallowed hard again. "I saw someone in the woods the other day. He looked liked me,"
Rin froze, but felt her blood boil under her skin. Rin knew immediately knew what Myrrah spoke of. How dare they? Time and time again, she and Sesshomaru had told InuYaha to stay away.
"Who is he? I know you know," Myrrah tried to make her little voice as hard and serious as possible.
Rin swallowed hard. "His name is InuYasha. Sesshomaru's younger half brother,"
"W-What does that mean to me, Rin-chan?"
Rin felt her throat tighten. A pain in her throat. Was it her place to reveal this? Their bonds with each other would be altered forever after these words. Looking at Myrrah's determined golden eyes, Rin knew this was past the point of no return. Rin inhaled deeply.
"He is your biological father,"
Myrrah felt her breath quicken. She always knew she was adopted, but she never dreamed her real parents would be so close. She heard Rin call her name name several times. After several moments, she felt the pressure lift from the futon. Warm lips on her forehead for a second. The sound of the shoji sliding open and closed. Myrrah fell back onto her bed. Thoughts swirling like a storm.
What was the normal reaction to this situation? To be angry? Confused? Hurt? What was she to expect? Myrrah didn't feel any of those emotions. She felt excited! Happy, even. If her parents were this close that meant she could find and meet them. Find out where she came from. It was obvious that she got her looks from her father but maybe she inherited her personality from her mother. Were they farmers? Artists? Warriors? She needed to find out now. Like right now!
Peeling off her dress and shoes, Myrrah prepared herself to escape her gilded cage twice in one day. She stayed in her room for the next few days. She was only allowed to leave to use the restroom and her meals were brought to her. The only visitors she had was her Obaa-chan and Jaken. She had not seen Rin or Sesshomaru in a long while. The consequences were clear. If she ran away again she might not be allowed to return. If they knew she was out to find her parents, it would hurt them deeply. Yet she had to do this. She concentrated on escaping. It was easy to dispel a barrier. A weak spot is plan if you know where to look. It was on the south side of her bedroom on the wall. Myrrah cautiously placed her claw on the rice paper wall. With her own power, she pierced through the weak spot. The rest of the shield fell away, shattering like glass. Myrrah smirked. Clad in a simple white dress, she leapt from her window. Her body morphed into her dog form. She flew through the thick clouds to mask her trail.
It was midday at this time. Myrrah ventured deep into the forests of her country. Far away from home. With her powerful senses, she easily traced InuYasha's scent. With each step, she grew more and more excited.
InuYasha!
His name was Inuyasha!
It was beautiful!
What was her mother's name?
Myrrah felt her body become lighter and her skin tingle. She had never strayed so far away from home before, yet she felt no fear. She hadn't even realized that she had been on the run for more than an hour. She was now in the plains. Myrrah stopped to take in her surroundings. The land was thick with an unfamiliar scent. It was just wide and open space. No place to hide. She was completely exposed. All she held in her eyes were the huts off in the distance.
'A village?' She thought.
Myrrah foolishly traveled down the dirt path in front of her. The flat land was divided into separate quadrants. Farms. Lots and lots farms. Maybe her parents really were farmers. She became closer and closer to the village. With her above average sight, she saw it was a village of humans! Myrrah felt her blood race. This was the first time she had even seen another human besides Rin! She was surprised at their appearance. They had ears like Rin but were not nearly as beautiful or graceful as her fellow daiyokai. They looked worn and fatigued as if they lived for a thousand years but she knew they only lived for a few decades. How curious. Myrrah pulled out a scarf and tied it around her head, covering her inu ears. With her head held high, she bravely walked into the small town.
Still following her father's scent, she followed the small side paths. Covering her unique ears was not enough to deter attention. Stares followed her everywhere. InuYasha was the closest he ever was to her. He was just around the corner. Her already racing heartbeat became more intense. She realized that she hadn't thought of what she would do at this moment. If she hadn't stopped her legs she would have just jumped out and said "hello". The more she thought about it, the more she freaked out. What if InuYasha already knew she was there? And what would she call him? Tou-chan or just InuYahsa?
When she couldn't take it anymore, she peaked around the corner. She saw red. There in front of her was her adult, male equivalent in flashy red. The red flash! His golden eyes that looked so much like her own, looked bored. He stood there, casually balancing a massive sword on his shoulder.
"A fang?" Myrrah whispered to herself. She remembered Sessha-chan also wielded a fang.
Another man came into view. He was a young adult clad in dark blue robes and carried a golden staff. He approached InuYasha casually. They seemed to be good friends. The monk rolled 4 barrels of rice over and handed 2 in InuYasha.
"I'm still not okay with this," His voice rough with a high pitch. A warmth grew in her chest at that sound.
"It's been years InuYasha and you say it everyday," The monk patted InuYasha on the back. "I know. Now let's get this back to our families,"
"Yeah, yeah," InuYasha muttered and lugged the two barrels over his shoulders.
Families? There were others? Maybe she had more aunts and uncles. Grandparents? Stifling her questions, she followed them. She was careful to keep enough distance between them so InuYasha didn't pick up her scent. As she traveled deeper into the village, she noticed that she smelled no demons at all. She really didn't know why she was following them. She desperately wanted to just pop out and talk to him, but her body refused to move from the shadows.
"Hello! Need a place to stay for the night?" A woman with dark brown hair grabbed her upper arm.
"A-Ano, no thank you," Myrrah moved away from the woman with little effort. The woman looked a little horrified. Were these creatures really that weak? She snatched her body away from the gathering crowd. These people were rather clingy. Myrrah escaped before she could draw more attention and quickly found InuYasha again. He and the monk had separated in the time she was being solicited by the villagers. The half demon made a quick stop at a hut and than speed off. The distance he traveled was short, to an open field.
'Where is he going?' Myrrah stopped running when she picked up numerous scents. She kept her distance but was able to see everything. All her senses focused on this new sight.
There was InuYasha... and a woman with 3 children. Two older than her and a boy younger. All human with rich dark hair and brown eyes. The woman was so beautiful. It took Myrrah's breath away. InuYasha lovingly embraced the woman. Her hand unconsciously gripped her chest right above her heart. They all looked so happy together. Why was her heart breaking?
