Quietly Dante entered Loki's temporary holding cell, he was sitting on a sad excuse for a cot staring at the floor. Thor had brought special restraints from Asgard that now adorned the God of Lies. Despite looking miserable Dante noticed a sense of relief and calm around him.
"For all your faults Loki, you are not a fool. You knew that this campaign against Midgard would fail with flying colors." Dante stated as she noisily dragged a metal chair from across the room to sit in front of the prince. Loki glared up at her before pointing to his muzzle. "I did not ask a question so there is no reason for me to remove your pretty little muzzle. I am merely thinking out loud in hopes it will grant me some clarity and this is the only place I could speak my mind without worry." She chuckled at the peculiar look Loki gave her. "While I admit your company is preferable to the others that does not mean I trust you Liesmith. Hmm?" Dante reached forward and grabbed Loki's chin forcing him to look her in the eye. "Interesting I thought they were blue."
"Lady Dante," Thor greeted as he entered, "I hope I am not interrupting, but I wish to speak with my brother in private."
"I was just leaving anyway." She gently kissed Loki's cheek. "Until next time," Then she strolled out of the room without looking back. She continued past the Avengers and didn't stop until she reached her suite that Stark put her up in. "Jarvis."
"Yes, Little Red Riding Hood?"
"Firstly, never call me that again. Secondly, turn off all the hot water in Tony's suite or I will fry your CPU. And lastly, can you show me all the footage you have on Loki from the time he arrived at Shield until earlier this day?" Dante asked, hoping she was wrong and this would prove it.
After a moment the AI responded, "Mr. Stark has cleared your request. Here is all the footage. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
Dante sighed, there was a lot of footage. "I need a gin and tonic and keep them coming because it's going to be a long night Jarvis."
"Very well I shall have someone bring it to you."
The sun had risen hours ago but Dante still had not left her room. She had finished the surveillance footage and was completely sure that she was correct in her assumption. All she wanted was to live in peace but now Asgard has reopened the door to an old evil.
Suddenly Dante jumped up, "Jarvis what time is it?"
"It is 9:45 am."
"Where are the Avengers? Where are Thor and Loki?" She asked as she scrambled to get dressed.
"They are in Central Park preparing to send Prince Thor and Loki back to Asgard."
"Shit! Why the hell didn't anyone come get me?! Jarvis tell Stark to stall them until I get there! They cannot leave for Asgard until I speak with Loki!" Dante shouted as she flew out her room and headed straight for the landing platform.
"Mr. Stark has informed me that he will pick you up."
Dante smirked, "Perfect." She reached the edge of the landing platform looking around for Stark. He was three blocks away and coming in hot so in true Dante fashion she leaped off the building to once again be caught by Tony.
"We really need to stop meeting like this," Stark joked, "I'm in a serious relationship and you're…well you."
"Oh can it Tin Man," Dante rolled her eyes, "Now hurry your shiny red ass up."
"What's the big emergency?"
"Loki has one more truth to tell me."
"Kinky."
Within minutes they arrived at the sendoff site in Central Park.
"Sup!" Dante grinned as the group of heroes stared at her questionably.
"Lady Dante, have you come to see us off?" Thor questioned.
Dante shook her head, "Not really I just wanted to say one last thing to Loki. Hope you don't mind Fabio."
"But he cannot speak Lady Dante…"
"No shit pretty boy but I don't need him to talk." She snapped her fingers getting Loki's attention. "Thanos." Loki's eyes widened in fear as he took an uneasy step back. Dante sighed wearily, "Damn, I hate when I'm right sometimes."
"Is something wrong Danny?"
"No Stark, everything is just fucking peachy. Have a safe trip home." She waved as Thor and Loki disappeared in a flash of blue light.
"Okay I give what's really going on Danny?" Tony demanded, "Is my tower gonna get wrecked again? Oh god my insurance agent is going to hate me."
Dante chuckled, "If your tower is the only damage this world sustains then we'll be lucky." She pulled out her cellphone and dialed. "Hilda, I'm going on a trip will you please pack my special bags and have Sabin ready to accompany me as well." She paused listening to Hilda's response. "I'm in Central Park….yes where the big energy spike was. No Hilda I did not fry anyone's ass into oblivion." Dante rolled her eyes. "Yes mother," She replied sarcastically, "Just hurry up please."
"So…?" Tony asked again impatiently, "You gonna share with the rest of the class?"
Dante shrugged, "Not really in the sharing mood, but I'm going to Asgard to sort some things out. I really hope my hunch turns out not to be true, but I will let you know."
"Hold on…" Hawkeye protested reaching out to grab her but was stopped when a man literally appeared out of nowhere next to Dante grabbing Hawkeye's hand. The man was as tall as Rogers with tan skin dark black hair with blue streaks, and startling violet eyes.
"Mistress," The man bowed, "You summoned me?"
"I did, thank you for coming on such short notice." She took the duffle bag he offered. "Did Hilda have everything ready for you, Sabin?"
Sabin laughed, "Of course she did! Hilda has known for days you would be traveling to Asgard."
Dante rolled her eyes, "How stupid of me to doubt the clairvoyant." She placed a hand on his shoulder. "Sabin I will take the Bifrost, I need you to enter Asgard undetected and be my eyes and ears."
"It will be my pleasure Mistress." Sabin grinned mischievously as he vanished.
"Who the hell was that?" Stark asked, "I've seen Shields database of Sups and he definitely was not in there. I'd remember an inter-dimensional teleporter."
"Shield isn't as knowing as they think and his name is Sabin. He is my personal body guard."
"You're full of surprises aren't you, Danny?"
"It's a gift." She smiled then looked up at the sky, a more serious look erasing her smile. "Heimdall, open the Bifrost I seek an audience with the All-father." Dante called up to the sky, but moments later nothing happened. "I know you can hear me Heimdall and I know that Bifrost is repaired enough for the likes of me to travel on. Now open it or I will force it open!" After a few minutes a weak beam of light shot through the atmosphere and enveloped Dante. She infused her power with the magic of the bridge and teleported herself to Asgard.
Heimdall watched curiously as Dante travelled through the bifrost to land elegantly before him. "Lady Dante."
Dante nodded in greeting, "Heimdall."
"Should I expect any attacks against the crown during your visit?"
"So far I have no plans to kill anyone, in fact, I'm here to save someone." She chuckled, "An interesting turn of events, no?"
Heimdall nodded solemnly, "You may enter Asgard but I will be keeping a close eye on you elemental."
"I would expect no less from you far seer." Dante stated as she marched past him towards the palace.
"You will spend the rest of your days powerless locked away in the dungeons!" Odin decreed, "Guards…"
The throne room doors flew open, slamming the guards standing in front of them into the wall. In their wake stood Dante in shining pale silver armor, a mantel of the deepest blue with shimmering stars flowed behind her like the night sky, and upon her head a helm similar to Loki's except it had feathers that seemed to change color instead of horns. Her eyes glowed silver visable under her helm along with her hair which burned bright red. Dante looked wild and every bit as dangerous and unpredictable as her power.
"Miss me?" She smiled at Loki, then turned to Odin. "The years have not been good to you, All-Father."
"You!" Odin shouted furiously as he aimed Gungnir at his unwelcome guest. "How dare you step foot in Asgard!"
Dante rolled her eyes, "Shooting me with your magical spear didn't work last time so why would it work now?" Raw energy crackled over her body, "Especially when I've grown much stronger."
Odin slowly lowered his spear after a few tense moments then returned to his golden throne. "Why are you here Titania?"
"To stop you from sentencing Loki unfairly." She chuckled at Odin's confused look. "What can I say, I've grown fond of your little hellion."
"How am I sentencing Loki unjustly? Loki is being given leniency due to the unusual circumstances as it is."
"You call being locked away and powerless until Ragnarok leniency? Someone please get me a goddamn dictionary so I can teach you the meaning of the word." Dante scoffed.
"Watch your tongue Lady Dante." Thor growled taking up Mjollnir.
"Be silent," Dante hissed sending Thor flying with a small burst of energy. "The adults are talking."
Odin raised his hand ordering his guards and Thor to stand down. "Then what do suggest, Titania?"
"Simple, release him into my custody. Loki attack MY realm and as its protector it is my duty to punish him for crimes committed on Midgard." Odin opened his mouth to argue but was cut off. "By your own laws concerning war criminals you have no right to punish him for crimes committed in another realm."
"I am Odin All-Father, son of Bor, protector of all nine realms. I have the authority to do as I see fit you insolent child!"
"Insolent child?" Dante laughed coldly as her eyes took on an eerie light. "I claim the vacant throne of Midgard. Will anyone second my claim?"
"You have no right to claim that throne!" Odin spat.
"I second her claim." Heimdall rumbled from the entrance to the throne.
"Seconding her claim means nothing! She is not of royal blood and therefore cannot claim any throne!"
Dante smirked as she took off her helm. "I am Dante Titania Bellerose, daughter of King Dragur, heir to the throne of Elemis birthplace of the Elementals. Therefore, by rite of blood I claim the throne of Midgard. As queen I demand that the war criminal Loki be handed over for punishment."
Reluctantly Odin nodded, "Very well I will acknowledge your ascension to the throne Queen Titania. However, I deny your request."
"Then you are nothing but an old fool!" Dante shouted back, "Your son was kept prisoner by Thanos and tortured by his followers for months! Will you truly let your best weapon against Thanos and his armies rot away in a cell?"
"Have care how you speak!"
"No, you have care how you fucking speak. I am not fool enough to not mask my words from his hearing." She sighed heavily, "Thanos is coming Odin and Midgard will be the first line of defense….if my demands are met."
Odin stood faster than Dante thought him capable, "You dare to threaten Asgard?!" He roared.
Dante walked forward until she till she was just a few steps from him. "Yes I dare." She declared. "What will you do, Allfather? Will it be your pride or your people?"
Loki barely contained his laughter at the situation he found himself privy to. This mere slip of a woman, who barely reached Odin's shoulder, was defying the god and winning.
Unable to handle the unnecessary hostility any longer Frigga stepped between the two. "My King…your Highness, might we not discuss these matter another time? It has been a trying day for all present and the hour grows late. Shall we retire from court before any rash decisions are made?"
Dante's features softened as she looked to Frigga, she hated Odin but Frigga had been nothing but kind and gentle to her. "That sounds wonderful my Queen."
Frigga smiled gently, "Excellent. Loki please escort her highness to your chambers, I'm sure that is where you both will be most comfortable."
"Frigga!" Odin bellowed in disbelief.
Frigga turned suddenly narrowing her eye on her husband, "Loki will stay by her side until his fate is decided." Her tone allowed no room for argument.
Odin sighed heavily, "I will concede to your wishes my love, but any mischief he causes will be on her head. Are you willing to take responsibility for his actions, Queen of Midgard?"
"Of course, Odin." Dante bowed, "Until next time then. Come along Loki." She led him out of the throne room.
The walk to Loki's chambers was a silent affair, while Loki was deep in thought Dante seemed to be enjoying the architecture and décor of the inner halls of the Valaskialf. Finally Loki stopped at a gilded door with dark wooden accents and opened it for Dante to enter then closed it behind them. He waited until the door was fully closed before he activated the sigil to soundproof the room.
"If you wish to say something then speak up I'm not a mind reader." Dante demanded as she began to methodically remove her armor and place it on a small table.
"Odin will never bow to your terms you must realize that." Loki spoke as he poured them both a goblet of wine.
"I know he will try his best, but in the end his council and the will of his people will overrule his pride." She smirked as she accepted the goblet from him. "You are not the only one who can choose their stage."
"Aren't you a cunning little minx? You purposely challenged Odin in a public court so you could use Asgard against him." He chuckled.
Clad only in her underthings Dante sat down in one of the plush green chairs. "I like to think of it as using my resources wisely."
Loki sat down across from her, "You stood up to Odin without so much as batting an eye, even when he threatened you. I know you are powerful, I can feel it, but you are much more than you let on. Knowing that I will simply ask how old you truly are."
Dante nodded in approval. "With age comes power, that much is very true with my kind, but in my realm time is not really measured. I can only tell you what I have witnessed of the past events in these realms."
"I understand."
"The earliest memory of your realm I remember is when Bor, Odin's father, fought the Dark Elves with their Kursed soldiers and the Aether."
"That would make you almost seven thousand years old!" Loki exclaimed.
"I am an elemental Loki, so for all intensive purposes I am immortal. I do not age. I will not die from any wound. I will exist until one day my body and soul will simply just fade away." Dante replied solemnly as she finished off her wine.
"I apologize." Loki confessed, "For the words I've spoke without thought I am truly sorry."
Dante shook her head, "Don't worry about it. Words of war mean nothing against those of friends, but thank you all the same."
"Can you believe the gall of that woman?" Odin exclaimed as he paced in his chambers. "She dared to challenge my authority in front of the entire court!"
Calm down husband." Frigga tried to soothe him. "You started this pointless feud centuries ago you can not blame her for still holding a grudge."
"You're taking her side?"
"No husband, I am merely trying to explain the situation you find yourself in. If you recall husband you banished a frightened and abused child to an unknown realm, how else did you think she would act? It may be far too late but perhaps an apology is in order?"
"I owe that creature no apologies!"
Red slowly began to creep up Frigga's neck till it settled in her cheeks. "You can find yourself another bed to sleep in tonight." She used her magic to push Odin out of their bedchambers and slam the door in his face.
