Never Say Die – Chapter 7: Love & Scarred Hearts

...

There isn't much to be said about a scarred love, only that when it occurs it can never be put back together, but when you find someone to love you despite those scars it is perhaps the most beautiful thing ever. This is what had happened to Severus Snape, he not only had that scarred love but it had scarred him physically as well perhaps it was for the best as if that had not happened he would not have had the courage to move on. Rabastan was his only hope now; he had protected him from the people who broke him. Severus was crying in not only physical pain from apparating but with the emotional pain of seeing them together, clutching his cane to his chest in the entry hall of Spinners End.

"Severus!" Rabastan called from one of the back rooms, holding the man in his arms as he cried, "I've been looking for you everywhere."

"I went out to get some fresh air," Severus sobbed, "and I saw them… they saw the new me" His tears broke Rabastan's heart and he carried the man he loved towards his bedroom, tucking him under the covers he laid a kiss on his forehead as he slowly fell asleep. That was it they were not going to get away with hurting him again, not on his watch.

Rabastan stormed out of Spinner's End apparating away as soon as he was out of the wards, he knew that the two were living in a small cottage on the master's grounds due to the werewolf's condition. He could sense their auras inside the small house and he knew that he had the right one, growling to himself and storming up to the door he practically blew it off of its hinges. By the looks on the other two men's faces they clearly knew that he was way past mad, they seemed terrified, "YOU HAVE NO RIGHT!" he growled at the men.

The two men looked at him almost terrified of the man they saw before them, "What?" Sirius questioned.

"You have no right to treat him like that!" Rabastan growled towards the two men. "He told me what he saw," he sneered, "the two of your parading yourselves around in front of him" Rabastan's magic began to crackle the angrier he could and he could not care less about any of their possessions. He didn't care if he ruined the measly possessions that the two had, the two other men became increasingly scared of the death eater, and began to cower away from the huge muscular man.

"We weren't parading…" Black tried to interrupt, but was deterred when Rabastan growled at him.

"Don't lie to me, I have ways of making you tell the truth!" Rabastan growled at the two men.

"Alright!" Lupin shouted "we were 'parading' but we didn't know Severus was going to be there!'

"We saw the memory" Black stated looking up at the taller man, glancing a Lupin occasionally.

"What memory…" Rabastan faltered.

"The memory… of that day, when he…" Black trailed off as he pointed to the side of his face, meaning Severus' scars. He flinched when the taller man took a step closer.

"What else did you see in this, memory?" Rabastan question wanting to know if they had seen what happened afterwards.

"We just saw his injuries, I promise!" Lupin cried, looking sacredly towards Black as the death eater Lestrange approached him.

"Oh really", Rabastan smirked, "Well I suppose I still have to punish someone" his smirked widened into a sinister smile as Black cowered before him, "CRUCIO!" Black screamed under the power of the torture curse, Lupin screamed for Rabastan to stop as he held the spell over his lover, refusing to stop until he was satisfied with amount of pain the man was in. Once he pulled the spell from the man, he lent down and whispered into Blacks ear, "This does not even amount to the pain he's suffering…" With that Rabastan got up to leave, only looking back to see Lupin cradling the man and scowling at them. He apparated away to Spinner's end and ran towards the bedroom, only to see Severus awake and sitting on the edge of the bed, away from him.

"What did you do?" Severus' voice croaked.

"Sev…I…" Rabastan didn't know how to respond to the man.

Severus got up from the bed and stormed towards the taller man, "WHAT DID YOU DO!? Severus got into Rabastan's face and demanded to know what the man had done, he may like Rabastan but Rabastan knew that the man still loved the two other men.

"I ONLY DID IT TO PROTECT YOU!" Rabastan defended, he knew that he had gone too far.

"Protect me? PROTECT ME!" Severus yelled at the man, "I don't need you to protect me!" Severus pushed Rabastan out of the room, slamming the bedroom door in his face. Severus slid down the door and cried, pulling his knees towards his chest, flinching as the action pulled at his scared flesh.

Meanwhile, Rabastan stood on the other side of the door , banging to door furiously with his large fists, "Severus!" he yelled, "Severus, let me in!" but the other man refused, he just sat behind the door and cried to himself. Rabastan booted the door one last time, he slid down the door, yelled at himself and smacked his head against the wood and said in a deep, sad, stuttering voice, "I did it, because I love you" as he banged his head against the door one last time, tears pouring down his face.

...

The next morning when Severus awoke, still lying on the floor from the night before, he thought about what had happened. Perhaps he had been too hard on the man that had dedicated his life to looking after and protecting him. Perhaps he had. When Severus opened the door, expecting to have to search the house for the taller man, he was surprised to find him sitting outside the door, on the floor, restlessly sleeping and Severus was hurt to see the tear tracks staining the man's face. This man had done nothing but protect and love him and all Severus had done was hurt the younger man. He knew he was not worthy of love from anyone and this just solidified what he thought, Severus lent down relying heavily on the beautiful cane that the younger man had made, kissed Rabastan on the forehead "I love you" he whispered, "Obliviate"
