Chpt. 15

It was the night before Hogwarts, and John couldn't stop flying around the room. No one was in there besides him, and if he heard anyone outside he would have dropped down. Even then, it was a very big risk, but ever since John had Ascended he couldn't go for very long without a small flight. Especially when he was excited.

John heard footsteps outside and fell on the bed with a small 'oof'. There was a knock and then Harry poked his head in.

"Mrs. Weasley wants me to tell you that you all need to make sure you've got everything and that supper will be ready in fifteen minutes."

"Alright."

Harry looked around, "What have you been doing in here?" he asked. "You've been up here for quite a while."

"Oh, you know. This and that."

"Well, alright then," Harry finished awkwardly. "If you could tell Karkat and Terezi too that'd be great. I can't find them anywhere. Big house."
"You can't find them or you're not looking?"

"I really don't feel like dealing with Karkat, you know?"

John laughed. "Yeah. I know he seems like an asshole, but he's a good guy underneath all that."

"Hey," Harry said, abruptly changing the subject. "How did you and Karkat meet? Because it seems like Karkat and Terezi have known each other for a long time, but not you."

"Oh man, that is one hell of a story. Sit down, this might take a while."

Harry did so.

"Okay so, on my thirteenth birthday I got this game, right? And before that, there had been a group of twelve people harassing me and my friends online. Jade hated them sooo much, but I thought they were really funny, because they were trying to troll us but usually it ended up with both sides getting trolled. So, on my thirteenth birthday, after I started playing that game I was talking about, the conversations started to pick up. They started helping us play the game, making sure we didn't screw up or anything. Each of us had one who was like, our patron I guess? Karkat was one of those trolls and he was hilarious. He talked to us all, as opposed to the others who usually stuck with one of us. My patron was Vriska, Dave had Terezi, Rose had Kanaya, and Jade had a bunch of them helping her even though she was the one who hated them the most. But, eventually we decided to work together, and we all became friends in a way. In the end, even with their help, we f***ed up and screwed them up too."

Harry whistled.

"Wow," he said. "All that over a dumb game?"

John laughed, somewhat downheartedly. "Yeah. Just a dumb game."

~ATH

Harry slept horribly that night. Mrs. Weasley cried over Kreacher's dead body, while Ron and Hermione looked over the scene, wearing crowns. His parents wove in and out of his dreams, never speaking, just smiling and waving. And then, he was back on the black and white planet. The clouds showed a picture of a corridor, while a boy in blue watched as the picture changed to John's dead body.

Harry woke up in a cold sweat, his dreams already slipping away. One detail remained, though. John dead. Harry couldn't help but wonder if it were some sort of omen, or his mind playing tricks on him. He sincerely hoped it was the latter.

Harry heard Ron yelling from downstairs and got dressed at top speed. He arrived outside to see Fred and George, who had bewitched their trunks to save time, hit Karkat which sent him and the trunks hurtling down the stairs at top speed. One of the trunks fell on Karkat's hand with a painful thud.

"F*** F*** F***!" he screamed, waking up Mrs. Black, who also began to screech at the top of her lungs.

Terezi and John came out of their respective rooms to see what all the hubbub was about.

"HOLY SHIT-SUCKING HELL THAT HURT!"

"-FILTH, MUDBLOOD TRASH, BESMIRCHING THE NOBLE HOUSE OF BLACK-"

And then Mrs. Weasley joined the fray, yelling at Fred and George about how Karkat could have been seriously injured, and, of course, how Karkat needed to watch his language.

Something about the whole thing was quite amusing. Finally, everyone managed to get their stuff together.

They all went outside, Sirius joining them despite Mrs. Weasley's complaints. Tonks also joined them, looking quite like an old lady. They waited for a minute for someone named Sturgis, but ended up leaving without him.

It took them 20 minutes to get to King's Cross on foot, and another 5 to persuade Karkat to get onto platform 9 and 3/4.

Eventually, they all made it in, and they began to try to find a compartment.

"Let's go find an empty compartment," Harry said to his to friends.

Hermione suddenly looked sheepish. "The prefects have their own car, but we'll meet you later, okay Harry?"

Harry nodded dully and set off with John, Karkat and Terezi to find a compartment. He noted how Karkat seemed to examine the people in each car before moving along. Terezi kept her nose up in the air and sniffed deeply; obviously they were both trying to find someone. John just stared at Terezi like she was insane.

"Troll girls," he muttered, just loud enough for Harry to hear, "are all completely f***ing insane."

Harry snorted, guessing that that was Terezi's race.

"Or just girls in general," he added, and John nodded with a grin. They continued to search for a compartment, when they entered one with a boy with black hair and what looked like 3-D glasses and a girl with long curly black hair who had the biggest smile Harry had ever seen (not even Lockhart could possibly hope to compete with this girl) plastered on her face. She was chatting animatedly at (not with) the boy.

John froze next to him, and stared at the girl with wide eyes. Karkat, on the other hand, seemed almost happy to see them.

"Oh thank god," he said. "Finally someone who isn't insane." And with that, he sat down in the compartment, and Terezi followed his action.

"Oh great," the boy complained. "Athhole'th here."

"F*** you."

Terezi grinned her shark smile, "It's good to smell you again, Sollux."

The boy raised a single eyebrow, "You too, huh? I thought that wath really weird. That thit jutht doethn't happen."

Terezi shrugged, while the girl grinned widely at all of them, including Harry and John, who were watching the meeting with a sort of frozen apprehension.

"Let's get out of here," John murmured, watching the girl who was still smiling unnervingly at them.

Harry decided that it would probably be best to listen to the person who had the most experience with these people, and they walked out of the compartment in a rush.

John seemed determined to get as far away from the compartment as he possibly could, and the two powered their way through the train before finally entering a semi-empty compartment. Harry and John sat across from Ginny, Neville, and a girl who he hadn't seen before.

They sat down, and Harry noticed how uncomfortable Neville looked. Before he could ask what was wrong, the girl looked at John once and with unfaltering belief she said, "You're Skaian." Her voice was light and airy, and she sounded as though she were in a dream.

John blinked in confusion for a few seconds before responding with, "How-?"

The girl simply smiled slightly and held out a hand. "Luna Lovegood," she said.

John grinned back, "John Egbert."
