At the church, the small gang was assembled and nervously lounging about when Dave and Lenny walked in. Chico was in the pulpit, indicating his watch. "Traffic bad boys?" he asked, generating a laugh from the group.
"Yeah, you could say that boss." Dave replied, "A few of Penguin's lads tried to jump us by the old Irish bar. We saved their guns and their money though. They aint gonna need it no more."
"Deadbeats" sneered James
"Definitely dead anyway." Lenny quipped.
"Anyway!" snapped Chico, "Let's get down to business, I've been in contact with one of dad's property guys and there's an old pleasure pier on Miagani Island that's just itching to be used as a temporary base, and that's got to be better than this shithole. I want you boys to go and grab your stuff, and get ready. Unless there's any sensible objections, we ditch this crapheap today. Any questions?"
A hand went up. It belonged to the gang's resident fixer of things, 'Bolts' McGee, "How are we going to get out of here? There's cops, security and Bruce Wayne's minions all over t'he place."
"Good question Bolts. There is a way and its not too far. Near Poison Ivy's old shop is a manhole cover, and through there is the key to getting out. Don't ask how I found out about it, cause its very complicated. Apparently theres some rubble to shift but not too much. Everyone happy?"
A bunch of agreeable murmurs from the gang and they stood up. Chico clambered down from his pious vantage point and pulled a Walkie-Talkie from his belt, "Snipes. How's it looking up there?" Snipes was the gang's resident hawk-eyed sniper and was often nominated as the lookout. Right now he was atop the ruined bell tower, sniper rifle in hand.
"Nothin' to report Boss." He did a final look about, "A few copper choppers buzzing about the steel mill but that's about it."
"Sounds good," Chico nodded to himself, "Come on down Snipes. We're blowing this joint." He put his walkie-talkie back on his belt and clapped his hands with enthusiasm, "Right boys, go and get what you can and meet me at the old liquor shop opposite Ivy's place as soon as you can."
An hour later and the gang was re-assembled in the ruined shell of a shop. Chico surveyed his troops, "Ok folks, here's how this is going to happen. That manhole outside may lead to a sewer, but looks can be deceiving: down there is a wrecked wall. Clear some rubble, go through and there's a control room and a vault. Ignore the vault, Catwoman has already been there and emptied it. There's a pair of doors at the end that get us out. From there we split up and make our way to the Bristol district on Miagani. Over the road from the fire station is the abandoned Newton Fairground. Its got its own pier which could be good for getting out of Gotham. Right, pair up. I don't want us in big groups as that might draw too much attention. All good?"
There were nods and murmurs of agreement from the group. Lenny and Mike were dressed in Wayne Enterprises hi-viz jackets and hard hats so that they could go and fiddle with the manhole cover without anyone asking awkward questions.
The escape was on.
