Chapter Ten

The Danger In Viridian

Leafia

The remaining walk to Viridian wasn't hard, despite the fact that we were exhausted from our earlier never-ending walk, er, short hike. Glass found a small PokeTown named Viridian nearby in the Viridian Forest and we rented an inn room. "Do you suppose a key piece is here?" Eevee asked childishly, eyes sparkling, imagination wandering. I inwardly giggled at his naiveness. Oh well. He was still a kit, after all.

"Maybe. After all, this is one of the biggest cities in Kanto!" I cheered.

"Yay! Soon everyone will be saved!" Eevee replied with a huge grin.

"Hopefully..." I smiled gently, allowing myself a moment to bask in Eevee's sunshiney belief that the others really could be saved quickly and we could go home soon.

"Hey." A voice spoke right in my ear, bringing me back to reality. I immediately recognized that voice and blushed. Good thing I don't blush very deeply or if he had noticed I would have been mortified.

It was Flare. I sort of kind of maybe have a crush on him. Ever since we were seven years old. (In Pokeyears) I still haven't told him, maybe I'm just a scaredy-Meowth. *sighs inwardly* "Hi, Flare! Can I help you?" I grinned, trying to act natural and not like I have a huge crush on the pokemon I'm talking to.

"Well, Glass wanted to talk to you." He answered.

"Okay! Bye!" I was inwardly disappointed that he didn't want to talk to me. I walked over to Glass. She was sitting by the fire with Night. "Flare said you wanted to talk…"

"Yes. We are going on a recon mission to gather information on the keys. You, Night, and I."

"Huh? Why me?"

"Your nose is especially sharp due to the fact that you are a Leafeon and are also especially attuned to nature. You also know healing moves and Grass Whistle may prove helpful in quick escapes from battles." I blushed again, this time in embarrassment from the praise. Glass was a natural born leader and instinctively knew how to make pokemon want to obey her. (As well as scaring the heck out of them when they don't)

"O-okay. When do we leave?"

"Now."

Ehhhhhhhh? Now? I wanted to rest more! Dammit! But there was no way I could disobey Glass. She soon told the rest of the Eeveelutions of our mission and calmed some unrest before leaving.

"And before we go, here." Glass threw a black cloak at me and Night, before donning one herself. "Eevees are rare pokemon and evil humans may want to try to capture us and use us for evil, like Team Darkness. It is best to not show our features or species."

Even though she didn't say it, I knew that Glass was in the most danger since she was a shiny and therefore the most valuable out of all of us. I started worrying again, a trait that Glacia always complained about. Then I started missing Glacia. Her smile, her laughter, her reassuring presence by my side. I knew I would be all right as long as I had her. Unfortunately, she wasn't here right now. What would I do without my twin? She was next to me for all of my life ever since we hatched. Now, on this important mission when I needed her most, she wasn't here! It made me so frustrated I wanted to scream. No wait, that wasn't quite accurate. It made me want to cry at her not being here to help.

"Leafia. Earth to Leafia." Dammit! I forgot that we were heading out on a mission.

"Y-yes?" I answered, slightly shaken by my reverie of Glacia.

"We are on a mission. Not blanking out would be helpful."

"Of course. Sorry!" I apologized while shrugging on my cloak which was way too big for me and the huge hood completely shrouded my face in shadows, making me unrecognizable, even to Glacia if she were here. If.

"Let's go!"

A hour later~

I yawned. I was bored to death. Our mission mostly consisted of asking other pokemon questions and keeping an eye out for anything unusual, which, was frankly, not the most exciting thing to do. Plus it was midsummer and I was sweltering inside of my heavy black cloak. I felt like I was going to wilt!As Glass asked yet another pokemon for information about suspicious activity or a key, my sharp nose caught a refreshing scent. It took me two seconds to identify the scent. Water! Unable to hold back any longer, I rushed toward the source.

"Wait! Leafia!" Glass hissed as she quickly thanked the pokemon and hurried after me, followed by Night. I caught a glimpse of sunlight reflecting on water and ran faster. There! A river! Hooray!

I tossed off my cloak and jumped into the river. I held my breath and dived as deep as possible, skimming the river bottom with my paws. I emerged fully refreshed. "Ahh! That felt great!" I exclaimed.

I was greeted by a pair of angry blue eyes. "LEAFIA! THAT WAS WAY TOO RECKLESS! WHAT IF YOU RAN INTO SOMEBODY AND GOT INTO DANGER? WHAT IF YOU ENDANGERED ALL OF US?"

"I'm sorry! I couldn't help it!"

"Next time there will be no mercy…" Glass answered in an ominous voice.

"Come in! Since we are here we might as well have fun!" I grinned.

Glass sighed and jumped in, cloak and all."What? Your cloak!"

"It's fine. If I take it off then my shiny fur will be revealed. It's safer keeping it on." True. Glass being revealed put us in way more danger than me bring revealed.

"Come on in, Night!" I invited, gesturing to the sparkling water.

"Fine. But it's your fault if we get caught!" He warned before slipping off his cloak and stepping into the shallows.

"Whew. I thought I was gonna melt!" Glass exclaimed, coming up to the surface after a long dive.

"Really? I thought I was gonna wilt!" I laughed at Glass' and my joke. I turned to Night, who was still in the shallows. "Come to the deep end!"

". . ." No reply.

"Hurry up!"

"I don't wanna." Night sounded like a kit!"Fine." I didn't push. It was his business, after all. "Can we go rest?"

"Sure. BUt not in the open…" Glass said, slipping out of the water.

"What about that building?" Night pointed at an old abandoned building across the shore.

"Perfect!" I swam to the shore and ran toward the building. Glass grabbed my cloak and she and Night went across the bridge. We walked through a hole into the structure.

"Spooky…" It was spooky. It was totally dark inside, except for a few holes scattered in the walls and roof letting in sunlight. The place was overgrown by many various plants, which, judging by their condition and placement, weren't taken care of and grew wild. There were rocks and rubble littered across the floor, and nearby I spotted a statue of a man whose face had been half chipped off. It gave me the creeps. There was a plaque underneath it that spelled "GIOV" but the rest of the letters I couldn't make out.

"Um, guys, are we sure we want to rest here?" This place gave me the chills and I couldn't shake off the feeling something was watching me.

"Well, there's nowhere else-" Glass was cut off as her expression transformed to one of surprise and terror.

"Huh? What are you so scared of?"

Night pointed behind me, his paw quivering. I slowly turned around. And stared into the face of a giant Machoke.

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Lol this sounds like one of those horror movies! You know, where there's a monster hovering behind a person but the person doesn't know, until his companion points it out and then the person screams? So, anyone who reads the pokemon manga, this scene should sound familiar to you. ;3 I can't update next week but I will the week after. This chapter took me a long time to write, since I didn't start until Friday. Procrastination! Plus it is about 1,400 words! Making it the second longest chapter! Cya next next week, readers!
