A/N: I have to give credit where credit is due. This chapter was mainly written by Hoshino Tenshi. Without her, this chapter wouldn't have been up in a long time! So thank you Hoshino-chan.
Disclaimer: this goes for the last chapter as well. We don't own Harry Potter. The Tenshi are real people. So yeah. There, the disclaimer is done.
Everyone Has a Point of View
(The next morning)
"They failed miserably, Sir. If they hadn't been making scared noises, I would have thought they were petrified." Remus said. He and Sirius were in Dumbledore's office, relating the events of the previous evening.
"Why do you think they couldn't do anything?" Sirius asked.
"Me? I do not know. It could have to do with their past. You say Nicole was hit rather hard by the boggart who assumed the form of one of her foster fathers. It's possible she didn't know what to do in that situation. Facing and defeating your fears is hard to do." Dumbledore mused.
"Yes, well, if they took things more seriously, maybe they wouldn't have ended up in the hospital wing," Remus spat out.
"I think that the pertinent detail of last night's events is that the girls faced the boggart the second time. They knew what they were going to be facing, and they were brave enough to continue on. Bravery is a very valuable trait," Dumbledore said after some thought.
"You have a point, Sir. Except, what about Riley?" Sirius questioned.
"What about Riley, Sirius," Adrienne asked speaking for the first time since the two men had related the story.
"She was in complete denial. She didn't face her fears," Remus supplied. "In fact, she didn't even admit that she had any."
"She is utterly prideful and, for lack of better words, full of herself. She thinks that she is invincible," Sirius stated matter-of-factly.
"I wish I was as confident as Riley. She seems so sure of herself—not always hesitating like me," Harry told Ron and Hermione as they headed to Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
"Well, it's refreshing to finally have someone around here who cares as much for learning as I do," Hermione supplied. "It'll be nice to have some competition. No offence."
"Yeah, she always knows what she doing. She and Nicole are complete opposites! Nicole seems so easy going and energetic. I'm too lazy to be like Nicole," Ron said.
"Then, there's Nicole. She doesn't take anything seriously. Like that prank she pulled yesterday morning. People could have been hurt. She's too energetic for her own good. She doesn't think before she acts!" Remus complained.
Dumbledore smiled. "The same could have been said of you, Remus, and you too, Sirius, when you were her age. You turned out well."
"The difference is that the fate of the world wasn't resting in our hands. I shudder to think what we would have done if we had even had a fraction of their powers. I hate to say it, but they are too unreliable," Sirius interjected.
"That prank was bloody brilliant!" Ron exclaimed. "I wonder where she got the idea to do that."
Harry laughed. "Robin helped her," he pointed out. "I pity Fred and George. They have competition!"
"I have to agree with Riley," Hermione supplied. "It was completely irresponsible. Speaking of Robin, she seems quiet."
"Do you have a problem with Robin as well?" Adrienne asked.
Both Remus and Sirius nodded. "She has dark powers. She's dark. Her friends ended up in Gryffindor and she's in Slytherin, which isn't good." Remus said.
"That's the understatement of the year, Moony." Sirius snorted. "She'll probably be the first to go running to Voldemort."
"That's unfair, Sirius," Adrienne looked offended. "These girls are so young. How can you accuse one of being evil?"
"I know evil, Ms. Lange. I saw it, heard it, and slept next to it for 12 years. Nobody who went into Slytherin ever came out good."
"Yeah, she's pretty quiet," Harry replied. "But, she is very funny. You should ask her to tell you some of her jokes sometime. There's this one about a bar..."
"Yeah," Ron said smiling. "She told me that one. It was bloody brilliant."
Hermione looked at the two of them, rolled her eyes, but smiled. They arrived at the classroom and stepped inside. Hermione walked to the front of the class and sat at a table next to Nicole and Riley. Harry and Ron followed. They seemed surprised that Robin was there as well. "Slytherin is in here as well." Hermione whispered.
The threesome surveyed the scene. Robin, who was sitting to Riley's right, was apparently telling one of her infamous jokes, because she had four Slytherin boys gripping their sides and red in the face. Riley, sitting in the middle, was deep in her Defense Against the Dark Arts text book. It was already highlighted, which suggested that she was merely reviewing. Nicole, to Riley's left, was simultaneously regaling Neville and Dean with a story of her American school and drawing a picture.
Ron smiled and took a seat next to Nicole. Harry and Hermione squeezed in next to Riley and Robin. Everyone seemed excited for their first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson. Professor Lupin was the best.
"Well, thank you for the report, gentlemen. However, I don't believe that we should write them off just yet," Dumbledore said standing. "Remus, I believe that your class will be starting soon. You know what you are to do?"
Remus stood up and nodded. "Yes sir." He looked at Sirius who transformed into Padfoot. "Albus, Ms. Lange." He said, nodding, then walked out of the office.
Remus stared at his students when he sauntered into his room. The entire class was laughing and Robin and Nicole were the sources. Robin was finishing one of her jokes and Nicole was on the ground laughing hysterically. Her face was an odd shade of purple, but no one seemed to notice. Riley was still reviewing her book.
He stepped up to his desk and cleared his throat. It didn't work. His class was still laughing about the joke. "It's the penguins!" He heard Nicole gasp. He coughed and that still didn't work. He looked at Padfoot and nodded.
The class fell silent when several loud, sharp barks filled the classroom. Ron helped Nicole up from the floor, smiling slightly at the case of hiccups Nicole had developed.
"Thank you. Now, to business. Before we start class, I'd like to make an announcement. Tonight there will be a duel. All students 5th year and up are eligible to participate. Whoever wins the competition will earn house points, and will receive a cash prize of 300 galleons. I wish everybody good luck."
Remus sighed as the entire class exploded into noise. Everybody was talking about what they would do with the prize money and how they would win. No matter how hard he and Padfoot tried, they couldn't get the class to pay attention the rest of the class period.
Riley caught his eye after the announcement. He knew that she was suspicious and also recognized a determined gleam in her eyes. It seemed to say, "Bring it on, old man."
