The plot had been in motion for generations-in hell demons have time to conspire. Azazel had rallied the troops, then escaped the fiery depths of torment to see that all was in place. The first generation were the incubators-they were most important because they were the beginning. The seeds were planted, the lineage marked, and the children were born. But something went wrong-the wars of man interfered with the plan, and almost all the chosen ones were lost. Many that survived were damaged beyond usefulness and had to be discarded. Azazel was annoyed, which for a demon means something, but he started again.

His demon army waited, but they grew impatient. Amongst the ranks, there were a few quiet dissenters- those that questioned his motives and his plan. Why trust the power of an army from hell to the leadership of a human, no matter how special? But Azazel's command was beyond reproach, so they followed-and they waited.

Azazel felt that this newest generation would finally bear the fruit of his labor. The humans who would give life to his general were perfect. Named after the mother of their God's son, the woman was pure of heart...well as pure as someone tainted with the blood of a demon could be. The irony that she would choose a husband named John did not escape Azazel, and seemed like a sign to him that this was indeed the final phase. But humans are full of morality and have souls to guide them from the influences of evil-if they choose to listen. The mother of his general rebelled, and in her arrogance believed she could protect her child from it's destiny. And she did.

Using rituals older than Azazel himself her first-born was shielded from his influence. His rage was such that the closest of his kind, what he considered family, thought of returning to hell to escape his wrath. But then, something remarkable happened. Mary became pregnant again. This child was more powerful than her first; and in her belief that the demon's plan had been thwarted-he had needed her first-born she thought-Mary foolishly left her second son vulnerable.

The birth of this child ushered in Azazel's finest hour-he murdered the mothers of this generation's chosen ones when the opportunity presented itself, and re-seeded the newest with his blood-just in case. But he knew this one was it-his general, his human more powerful that most demons, able to live in both the realms, and lead with absolute power over all that he commanded.

Azazel did not take into account the father. The man would be death to many of his army, and almost to his plan, but over the years the control the father had over the son loosened. When the future warrior left the protection of his father for a life of his own, Azazel knew he had won. Even the love of another human would not interrupt his schedule now. She would be dispatched in time for the general's activation-no need for her distraction when he would need to focus on his training-learning to control the powers he now possessed.

How wrong could an all-knowing being be? The first-born came back into his brothers life, his soul protected by his mother's insolence-and he was the anchor to the world of man that kept the general from taking his rightful command. Azazel found himself in a battle for possession of what was his, the brother proving to be a formidable opponent.

When the opportunity presented itself to rid him of this nuisance though, Azazel made a decision that would prove most useful in the end. For the sake of revenge, and to gain possession of a needed item, he arranged for a trade-the soul of the father and the key to hell for the life of the first-born.

After the death of John, the brothers' bond was strained-secrets of the father will do that to the strongest of relationships-but they found their strength in each other once more, and Azazel's ties to his general were weakening. The time had come-the army waited at the entrance to hell, and their patience grew thin. In a final challenge of his chosen one, the brothers were separated and the leader of the demon invasion was tested. At the moment of his triumph-when Azazel could taste victory-his chosen one failed. Human weakness had corrupted his work, and the human handpicked to lead the legion of demons was murdered at the hand of one less worthy. With the play already in it's final act, the victor would have to do.

The death of the warrior would affect both sides-the loss of his brother, one he had sworn to protect, would cause the first-born to offer a trade. His soul for the life of his brother. Many in the demon world would not enter into this contract, believing as Azazel did that the protection of the mother would prevent collection of the debt when it came due. But someone more powerful authorized the deal to be made, and with that, Azazel's general was back in action. This victory would be short lived though. As the bullet fired from the only gun capable of killing him pierced the shell of human he had worn all these years, he had to wonder-was the demon who allowed the resurrection of Sam Winchester a supporter of his plan-or did he have agenda of his own?

I hope you enjoyed, and as always, the best feedback is any feedback at all :) The next will be up soon...
