1.) The hotel

She felt her heartbeat went faster and faster as the realization that they were stuck on the eighth floor hit her. Kobeni Higashiyama never wanted Public safety but her parents' needed money, something she'd never truly have the luxury to have. "W-we're trapped...We're gonna starve to death.." She gripped her knees as tears began to drip from her eyes. "Don't worry Kobeni!" Assured Arai but that did nothing to help cheer her up. "You can't give up hope, you have to help get your brother into school!" Kobeni appreciated the attempt though those well-intentioned words had done nothing but further upset the nervous woman. "My Parents forced me to get t-this job because he's more gifted than I am. It was either becoming devil hunter o-or a s-sex worker." Her voice creaked at those last words while mental images of the somewhat safer yet equally horrible and degrading alternative plagued her mind. The single streaks of tears had morphed into a miniature waterfall of the girl's anguish, some much so that a tiny pool had formed on the floor as a result of her crying. "I wanted to go to college too but I'm going to die here instead!"

'Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!' She internally scolded herself as she was unable to stop the flow of tears. 'How am I supposed to kill a single devil if I'm this weak?' She definitely wasn't the type of person you'd expect to be a devil hunter; especially if you considered the fact that she was extremely timid. Then much to her expense, the fiend named Power began to laugh at her despite Arai's scolding and Himeno's soothing words. "You humans! So quick to crumble in the face of danger! Ahaha!" The red-horned fiend then threw herself back onto the bed while kicking her feet. "Please don't cry," Soothed Himeno. "Devils feed on the fear of Humans. Don't give the satisfaction." But Power had made the mistake of continuing to mock the poor human. "I've killed more devils with my bare hands then you could ever count, because I'm-" The air was broken by a crisp slapping noise as Power's head suddenly jolted forward. Everyone turned to look to the once sleeping devil was sitting up and retracting his hand which he used to backhand Power with.

"What the hell?!" Shouted Power as she stood up with a rather angry look on her face. The blonde-haired devil named Denji rubbed his eyes before answering, "You jumped on me and interrupted my wonderful sleep you asshole." Kobeni in the short time she knew him was afraid of the possibility of him simply cutting her into bits if he wanted to. But instead of being this imposing monster, he simply remarked how wonderful a seemly mundane bed was and was out cold all while a devil that could potentially control time and space itself held them captive in a hotel. Before the two could get into a heated argument, Aki Hayakawa came barging in. "Guys, you should come see this." He demeanor was calm and collected but the tone was dead serious which caused the dark brown-haired girl to become concerned though thankfully, her tears had finally stopped. The man with everyone else except Kobeni left the room to investigate. She sat there, alone and silent as she looked up to the window which stead of showing the skyline of Tokyo, showed only the infinite rooms that laid before her.

"You know...that fiend has a point." Kobeni was taken by surprise and her eyes quickly darted to the left as in the reflection of the mirror was another woman who stood just behind her. She looked very close to her like an identical twin yet had almost deathly white skin and the color from her eyes was faded, her hair as black as night compared to Kobeni's which was dark brown, and with a thin scar that ran across her neck. "W-why didn't you help me when that devil attacked me?" She half whispered as a precaution, but this Kobeni look-alike only softly giggled before saying, "Because your life wasn't in immediate danger now, wasn't it? You had those devil-hunters with you, and you know the rules just as much as I do." Kobeni had wanted to protest but knew it was hopeless as she was indeed correct. "What should I do? we're trapped in this hotel and everything's a dead end." But the doppelganger wasn't all too concerned about their position and showed this by rolling her eyes. "How about you stop being so useless then. Even after all this time I'm still uncertain how your family managed to tolerate you for all those years." Kobeni in turn cupping her face with her hands as to not let her see the tears that threatened to escape once more.

Then there was a commotion outside the hotel room, forcing Kobeni to wipe away her tears and quietly walk up to the entrance and peek out to see the thing that was keeping trapped from the outside world. It was a monstrous devil that was about the width of the hallway and was touching the ceiling with many heads of jeering and groaning. And right in the center was the same head that she was unable to destroy, taunting the devil hunters."Silly devil-hunters! There's no escape from the eternity devil!" Kobeni felt her blood run cold and her knees go weak. "But.." The devil continued, "I am willing to partake in a deal." Everyone was surprised. "A contract? It could be a trap!" Says Denji but Himeno rebukes him, "If a devil's talking about a contract, then this is the real deal." "Correct. I have a deal with you, let me eat the chainsaw's heart and I'll set you free."

'If he's telling the truth...' Thought Kobeni, 'Then I can survive.' "What are you waiting for? Do it." She turned back to her devil who seemed to read her mind and shook her head. "I-I can't! That would be murder!" The poor young woman knew her conscience wouldn't allow herself to forget that fact that she was a murderer if she went along with it. "He's a devil, do you think he would even take a moment to think about morality if you were in his position? It's either your life or his." The devil usually enjoyed to toy with petite girl, but she now had a valid point. He had been very brash and while she was very much still afraid of him like most things she came across, she couldn't die, not yet anyways. Kobeni slowly reached for her knife hidden in her uniform. "Good, don't hesitate..." Her words were cold, and a chill ran up her spine as she swallowed the lump in her throat. With a shaky voice, she made her presence known to devil and devil-hunter alike. "D-Denji...please let it eat you..."

There was no going back, it was do or die now and she was on her own. Her legs shook and the rhythmical beating of her heart filled her ears to such an extent that it was all she could her, drowning out Power's word who pointed to Denji with excitement written on her face without even a sliver of guilt. She gripped the handle for dear life and with every fiber of courage she could muster, let out a war cry before charging straight at him as fast as her legs would allow her. This unfortunatly was a gamble that didn't go her way as when got about three feet away from Denji, Aki kicked the knife straight out of her hands before Himeno knocked the wind out of her with a punch to the stomach. Not only did she fail, she failed miserably and could do nothing but lay on the ground like a ragdoll in pain. Her breathing had been reduced to labored pants as her lungs struggled to take in air while Himeno picked her up to put her back into the hotel room for her safety as Denji fought with Power and Arai over if he should be safraficed or not.

Kobeni had once again made an utter fool out of herself, her collages definitely viewing her as a waste of time. It didn't help that in a blind moment of panic, she attempted to drink out of the toilet as to keep her to dying of dehydration, only to thankfully have Himeno kick her out before she could contact any vile diseases. After some time she finally regained consciousness and found herself laying in bed while being covered by a blanket. Memories of what had recently happened hit her like a semi-truck and she really began to hate herself. 'I'm a failure, a complete failure...' She didn't have the will to get up and face the others so she simply laid their in silence while pretending to sleep. "Now that's more like it." And of course, there she was, bathing in her suffering like a sponge. "I don't even have to know what your thinking to know you feel like absolutely shit right now!"

Her devil was standing above her with a smile that only a devil could make. Kobeni didn't have the energy to bicker with her at the moment, hell, she didn't have the energy to even cry at all. She closed her eyes in an attempt to get her to go away and to leave her be, despite knowing full well that it wouldn't work. "Come on! Don't be such pain..." Kobeni shivered as she felt something cold touch her cheek. "You can't ignore me Kobeni, just like you can't ignore that fact that you're a complete idiot. What were you thinking when you tried to literally drink out of the toilet bowl?" She could've gone without being reminded of that but who was she thinking? She was stuck with the devil either for life or until she got bored of her, the latter of which was definitely wasn't going to happen. "If it was the eternity devil, I t-thought that I-" "What? Make a bigger fool out of yourself?! Ha! You might as well jump into that devil's mouth." Kobeni hadn't thought of that before and while she didn't want to die, it would free her from this nightmare.

Then she heard Arai freak out, she didn't what he was saying but she hear something about Power. The two began to argue to such a degree that she couldn't coherently understand what they were saying. With a sudden feeling that her life could be at risk, she looked over to see her knife neatly placed on the nightstand. The two hadn't noticed Kobeni get up and pick up the knife with shaky hands and up behind them. "Tiny human! Get your human friend to go away!" Shouted Power who had crumbs all over her face. Kobeni in yet another moment of panic looks over to the wrappers scattered all over the bed and to her horrors comes to the realization that all the food was gone. "Arai! W-w-where's the food?!" She knew where it had gone but couldn't believe it. 'Stay calm! Stay calm! Stay calm!' She tried to tell herself, putting up a semi peace sign with her left hand but it failed to bring down her stress. "The fiend ate it all!" He answered as he turned to Power with a cold glare. Tsk...it seems you're not the only person hampering the mission." Said Kobeni's devil, "I wouldn't be surprised if she was working with the eternity devil."

That sentence clicked something within her mind which drove her anxiety through the roof, what if she was right?! She then pointed the knife at Power accusingly. "A-a-a-re you w-w-w-w-working with that devil?!" After all, why would she eat all their food when she knew they were trapped, and why would she be totally relaxed despite their unfavorable position? "Kobeni, think this through rationally! She's a detriment but why would sh-" "You're working for them too?!" Arai was utterly flabbergasted from her accusation. "W-what? No! I'm not with the devils!" But Kobeni wasn't thinking straight and closed the distance between them in a second, the blade mere centimeters from the poor man's cheek. "You're a spy for the devils! I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE!" The hotel all of a sudden shook violently and the lights flickered as the eternity devil blocking their path roared! Her devil luaghted, "Hahaha! Oh, now you've done!" She said mockingly, "Your fear and paranoia's feeding him well." Kobeni snapped out it and looked at Arai and Power with a look of pure horror. She immediately regretted her decision and wanted nothing more then take back what she had done, she knew that now she was in deep shit.

The dark brown-haired woman along with everyone else fell down as the room was put onto its side, Kobeni just barely crawling out of the way as one of the beds came crashing down. She was petrified beyond all believe and curled up into a ball with her face buried in her knees. She drowned in the sea that was her mind that bereded her to such an extent that she couldn't tell if it was herself or her devil. "Hahaha! Time to show you humans how it's done!" Shouted Power as she kicked the door out of its hinges and raced down the sideways hallway with the two humans trailing behind, only to stop as she and the rest of the group looked down to see the devil at the bottom of the hotel with its mouth wide open. 'It's my fault...It became stronger because of my foolishness...' The devil in question kept repeating the same phrase over and over and over and over again.

"Give me his heart, give me his heart, give me his heart, give me-" "Shut the fuck up!" Spat Denji as he glared at the devil trapping them. "Damn it!" Swore Arai, "We have no other choice!" Then he put Denji into a headlock before throwing him to the floor. "Kobeni! Do it! Give him what he wants!" Denji thrashed about and swore and cussed as he fought to break free. But Kobeni hesitated as both she and Denji made eye contact. His eyes although burning with anger, seemed to her at least, pleaded to her not to do it. Her palms became sweaty and time even this dimension seemed to slow as she made her decision. "What are you waiting for?! Get it over already!" She let out a sigh and dropped her head in shame. "T-t-this is w-what It wants..." She said which barely was a whisper. "I don't want to be a m-monster." Her eyes for the zillionth time watered and heart began to ache. "Quit the sentimental shit!" She heard her devil shout, causing Kobeni to flinch ever so slightly though nobody seemed to notice. Aki then grabbed Arai and yanked him off Denji.

"She's right." Says Aki, "Why wouldn't it just kill him himself if he could?" With that the spell of paranoia that had hung over the group finally broken and now everyone could see they were being used. "Wait a second, he reacted badly when miss Himeno used her ghost devil." Pondered Denji as he got up. "Aha! Ive found his weakness! It's pain!" He let out a laugh of madman and peered over towards the devil who opened his mouth even wider. "Are you insane! I thought we wouldn't kill you?!" Says Himeno but he brushed her off. "He may try to eat me, but I'll wont let it be that easy!" Then he reached into his shirt and pulled the cord before jumping down and into the mouth of the devil. No one dared to mutter even a sound as chainsaws and Denji's maniacal laughter deep inside the devil itself. Both Kobeni and her devil her in awe as the blonde went one a bloodthirsty rampage. "Damn...He's one crazy guy. Thankfully for you, he'll likely die before he has the chance to kill you afterwards." She could somewhat agree with that.

But it went slowly, really slowly. By the time the roar of chainsaws, Denji's laughter, and the devil's howling came to an end, it judging by her hunger had been a handful of days. Kobeni originally wasn't going to check once it became quiet, but a part of her was curious about the fate of the chainsaw wielding maniac. She slowly walked past a sleepy Himeno and peered down below to see something glowing within the blob of flesh, with a figure covered in blood standing over it. The devil with a quiet and raspy voice, begged Denji to kill him already, his request being fulfilled immediately as he tore it to shreds with one of his chainsaws. Suddenly, the hotel began to shift slowly back to its original position. As the building leveled itself, her stomach began to churn as dark crimson red began to flow down the hallway. Then Denji who now was back to his regular form walked into view and turned to face her all while somehow not being drenched in blood. "I...I finally got him to shut up.." He chuckled for a moment, "Now I'll get Himeno's kiss just like she promised."

It was foolish to risk one's live and spend literal days in nonstop combat with a devil just for a kiss with tongue, but she was in no way going to complain, not that she had the right to anyways. exhausted and hungry the group had completed their mission and the eternity devil who had occupied the hotel was dead as they finally after days stepped outside into the sunlight. Kobeni basked in it like it was going to be her last day on earth and enjoyed the fresh air. But her joy of being alive was cut short and she turned her eyes over to the blonde who had done all the heavy lifting despite having most of the group wanting to kill him. She meanwhile had done nothing to contribute and had acted more as a detriment to their efforts, trying to kill Denji once, putting a knife up Arai's face, and strengthen the devil with her paranoia. Her throat became very dry but she walked up to Denji.

"U-um, excuse me." She fumbled unto her words as he turned around to look at her with tired eyes. "What do you want?" He asked irately, which made Kobeni want to crawl into a whole and die. "I-I-I want-ted to say...s-sorry for what happened." She sounded dumb and could hear her devil struggle to keep herself from laughing but Kobeni pressed on. "I was s-scared that I was going to die and wasn't thinking straight. I know sorry won't cut it but..." She swallowed the lump that formed in her throat as she began to fidget with her hands all while her eyes had finally stopped watering as even her ocean of tears wasn't infinite. "I want to make it up with you, s-so please, w-w-what can I do?" She couldn't even looked at him in eyes for it was too shameful and embarrassing for her to do so. Her apology for almost committing homicide numerous times was as pathetic as she was and she more or less waited for him to blow up in her face in anger. Yet nothing came as she finally looked up to him to see Denji rubbing his chin.

"Hmmm..." 'Oh no..." She thought, 'Is he going to do sone perverted?!' The dark haired woman knew it was a terrible idea and it seemed that she couldn't really escape the second opinion her parents gave her after all. "Alright miss." He said, "I'll forgive you only if you promise to buy me a cheeseburger tomorrow!" He pointed his thumb at his chest. She was flabbergasted, he only wanted a cheeseburger? "Tomorrow?!" He nodded. "You tried to kill me, and that bastard too! I deserve some good food for killing that devil." Kobeni stopped trying to make sense of it and decided to continue on with her punishment. "O-ok, does two sound good?" She asked softly, forcing herself to speak to a volume where she could be heard. Every second passed by like a hour and she began to sweat bullets as she waited for his answer. She got her answer when he smiled a toothy grin with exposed his shark like teeth before putting out his right pinky. "Pinky swear you'll get me a cheeseburger." It was ridiculous but it could be way worse so she rolled with it to the absolute very best of her abilities.

"I-I swear." She stuttered shameful as her furiously shaking hand managed to lock pinkies with the hybrid devil. It was now set and a pit began to form in the girl's stomach as she imagined what an embarrassment it would be. She could see it now, Kobeni doing something clumsy that would make everyone around her laugh at her expense while all she could do would be to just curl up into a ball and cry her eyes dry. Or how she would upset Denji and he could take out his chainsaws, before violently painting the establishment's walls with her blood while the unrecognized pile of flesh that would be her body lay scattered all over. Or if she took over and cemented his hatred of her, destroying any good will she could attempt to receive. "Great...th..." Denji stopped mid-sentence as he collapsed like a falling tree before being caught by Aki who had by now bags underneath his eyes. The nightmare was over but a whole new problem was being thrown at her, the basic story of her life so far. "Congratulations Kobeni." She turned to see her devil smirking with her arms crossed, "you've now got a date." Even being dead tired she began to sweat heavily as her cheeks turned slightly pink. 'This job's going to be the death of me...'

That's right, Ive decided to throw my lot in and create a Denbeni fic! Ngl Asa x Denji is good but I like Denji x Kobeni a little more. This fic is going to be a pretty slow burner *Cough* Makina *Cough* , and I hope y'all enjoyed as I'll see you when I update. :)
