NYX

This was not the situation Nyx wanted to find herself in.

She is the night itself. The darkness. The reason you should fear the shadows.

But now all she wanted was a little bit of light. The thought disgusted her, and she would rather fade than admit that. But it was impossible to see anything in the pitch dark she was in. How could she have fallen for such an obvious trick?

Those demigods, she should have stopped acting like an idiot and thought about their story, but pride went to her head in a way she couldn't even think straight. It would be absurd for someone to set up a tour of Tartarus, let alone exclude her from all the possible attractions. And now, she had to deal with all her sons and daughters fighting to decide who was the most powerful and darker among them.

- Lyssa! Get away from me!

- It wasn't me! There's an arai biting me!

- I am the most powerful! I'll curse you all!

- SILENCE!

Nyx had reached her limit. She could feel her children, even though they were the most terrifying things possible, trembling with fear when confronted by her. In the distance, the Primordial could feel that the demigods had left the Mansion of Night. She knew they were not dead, but had passed through the mansion and were now safe, if there is any safe place in Tartarus.

- NO! - Nyx screamed, completely out of her mind. How could she have let two mere demigods fool her? Beings so inferior that the last one she had seen was more than two thousand years ago, and even then he was so terrified that she could swear he saw his pants getting wet.

Slowly, the darkness passed. It was still very dark, especially with night itself just hanging around, but now Nyx was able to see the terrified faces of all the beings that only a few moments ago had been fighting like children.

- You are all a bunch of idiots! You let two half-bloods fool you! And fool me! Now I can't even catch them anymore!

The goddess sighed, frustrated. How could she let this happen? She's smarter than that, she had to be!

An idea crossed her mind. Revenge? It had been millennia since the Mansion of Night had been in Tartarus after the "incident" with Hypnos and Zeus. And Nyx herself had not been to Earth for centuries, preferring to stay in her mansion. Gaea wanted to wake up, that's true, but she was sure that that overbearing goddess would fail. If she could be fooled by those demigods, surely that ridiculous being would also fail miserably.

Nyx turned to her children, who now looked at her with not only fear, but also shame.

- Get lost, all of you! If I see you walking around here without my permission, you will suffer the consequences!

Those who could teleport disappeared in dark flashes, and those who couldn't, like the arai, ran as fast as they could. Nyx headed towards the mansion, frustrated. Surely the demigods couldn't survive going to the Doors of Death, right? Maybe she should consult with the one who brought them there in the first place...

- Akhlys!

Misery materialized in front of Mother Night, still looking terrified after nearly being choked to death by her own poison.

- Y-yes, Mother?

- Who were those?

Akhlys shuddered as she remembered the half-bloods who had almost ended her immortal life.

- P-Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, Mother. They are the two demigods who defeated Kronos and are d-destined to defeat Gaia.

Nyx stared at her, intrigued.

- You seem pretty sure they're going to defeat Gaia, my child.

- I-I-I - Akhlys seemed to be having trouble finding the right words. - They are powerful. Almost kille... - She stopped talking, and if Misery could turn pale, that's what just happened.

Nyx kept looking at her daughter, wondering what to do.

- Perhaps I should have a word with our host. You're dismissed.

Akhlys nodded, and disappeared, looking relieved to be able to return to whatever hole she was hiding in.

...

A few hours had passed in the Pit, but Nyx didn't exactly had a clock or somethinglike it. She knew when it was night time in the Earth, but here? As long as she knew, her domain was basically in the chest of a certain primordial.

- Tartarus!

Nyx shouted, calling for said primordial, at the edge of her domain, where it was possible to see the landscape. She could hear the Acheron under the cliff, screaming words of pain and misery.

- Tartarus, I know you can hear me, come here now, or I swear I will expand the darkness throughout this pathetic realm of yours!

In the distance, the air seemed to solidify, and a large being materialized, wearing armor that did not protect his purple, muscular arms. Everything around him seemed to be moving toward him, as if his face was a vortex.

Tartarus huffed, looking irritated.

- To what do I owe the pleasure, daughter?

Nyx gritted her teeth.

- I told you I didn't let you call me that. I'm Chaos' daughter, and that's it. I don't care if you were involved, even Ouranos was a better father than you.

Tartarus looked annoyed, but just shooked his head.

- I don't think you called me here to argue, Nyx.

- I really didn't. But another time I would love to question you about this hideous form. - she pointed with her head in the direction of Tartarus's purple arms - What I want to know is about the two demigods. Where are they?

The vortex seemed to intensify, and Nyx felt her dress flutter slightly.

- They've... escaped. - Tartarus whispered the last word, clearly frustrated.

Nyx took a step back, perplexed.

- WHAT?

- Damasen and a titan helped them. They closed the Doors of Death and fled. I managed to destroy Damasen, even if temporarily, and I don't know when he's going to reform, but Iapetus escaped, and right now I have no interest in playing hide-and-seek. - Tartarus explained, with one hand on his head.

- You really are useless! Letting two mere demigods escape from your domain!

- Don't you think you're being a little bit hypocritical, dear Night? - Tartarus said harshly.

Nyx felt her face getting warm, and she tried to pull herself together.

- It doesn't matter! If the Doors of Death are closed, your dear Gaea has lost, there's no way she can win. You'll be here for all eternity!

Tartarus seemed to think for a moment.

- Maybe so. But you won't.

Nyx, as Akhlys did before, paled. In the face of Mother Night, the change was more noticeable.

- Excuse me?

- I'm tired of your presence in my realm. All you do is be an obstacle. Perhaps it is time for Night to return to Earth. Gaea will know how to deal with you. Unfortunately I still have some appreciation for you, and can't just make you vanish.

Nyx narrowed her eyes, now completely out of herself.

- As if you could! Within my domain, only Chaos could beat me!

- Perhaps that's true. However, you are still in my realm, and I can choose if you can or cannot stay here. And I have chosen not. You are being, how do mortals say it...? Oh yes. Evicted. - Tartarus said with a wicked smile on his face.

Nyx looked like she wanted to argue, but with a snap of Tartarus's fingers, everything disappeared.

Nyx was used to the darkness, she was the darkness, but this terrified her. Where was she going? Where did that poor excuse of a Primordial sent her?

The first thing she felt was the fresh air. The smell of plants. Water. Everything that wasn't present in that dreadful pit.

When the light returned, she found herself in the middle of a plain. She knew she was on Earth, and Nyx could almost feel Gaea watching her. Fortunately, she still seemed to be asleep, and she didn't want her to wake up, if Tartarus really meant that. It was night, and she didn't know what day or year it was. She turned around and saw the Mansion of Night just standing there, as if it were an ordinary house. She could feel that she was in the United States, the center of Western civilization, but something was wrong. Everything was wrong, how the Hades did that happen to her?

- Okay, calm down. - Nyx said to herself, feeling that she was panicking. Gaea wouldn't be able to do anything to her as long as she stayed asleep.

And if that's the case...

Akhlys said the two demigods... Perry and Anniebeth... were destined to defeat Gaea. And Nyx wanted to try to understand how they both escaped from the pit. She also didn't want to be tortured by Mother Earth. By night Nyx's power was comparable to the creator itself, but in the day... not so much.

- Guide me, Chaos. - Nyx closed her eyes and tried to find some clue to the half-bloods. She saw the Doors of Death, a very dark Giant, Hecate, Epirus in Greece, a giant statue of Athena, and finally, a flying ship. Flying ship? It didn't look normal. But she would find out soon enough.

With a simple thought, she appeared in front of the ship, which was still flying in the middle of the night. The ship stopped abruptly, Perry-no, Percy, was knocked out because of that. Nyx looked down, and she saw them. Without the death mist, they looked much more attractive, Nyx noticed. Before she arrived, they were cuddled together, but now looked absolutely confused.

- Why have we stopped? - Percy asked.

- I don't kn... - that's when Annie- no, Annabeth, looked up, and Nyx could feel that the heart of the daughter of Athena stopped for a second, or perhaps more. Percy noticed her too, and seemed to have a similar reaction.

- There you are! - Nyx said, grinning.
