Author's Note: Hey all, having had recently gone through a binge of watching Courage the Cowardly Dog clips, as well as seeing the recent Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog, I have felt inspiration for writing another crossover between Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog as a follow-up to Meddling Kids in Nowhere.

As a matter a fact, this crossover is a rewrite of Straight Outta Nowhere, which is the most-recent DTV film I've watched, and to be honest with you all, I am not sure if I can find the words to describe how cringeworthy the poor storyline and dialogue were, traits that I have observed to have been increasingly the norm for the Scooby works released post-Be Cool.

In fact, unlike Be Cool, I haven't bothered watching every single episode of Guess Who for similar reasons, nor have I bothered checking out all of the DTV films produced post-Gourmet Ghost, which, along with the crossover with Batman: The Brave and the Bold, were signs of things to come with the further decline in quality.

Furthermore, it is difficult not to ignore the trainwreck that we came to know as the Velma series. Having had seen the teaser trailers, I sure wish I was surprised by how cringeworthy many of scenes were, but given the decline in quality we've seen over the past decade, I was not surprised one bit.

To be frank, given that decline in quality we've observed with the post-2010 works and further turbocharged in the post-Be Cool works, it is my view that the Velma series is more of a symptom of said decline in quality and Warner Bros. being more interested in milking the franchise dry and making a quick buck rather than being a trainwreck that simply came out of nowhere.

Anyways, as the title suggests, a certain chest will be the main feature of this new storyline. All in all, given my continued following of Crystal Rose of Pollux's Season 2 project for The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and my plan to bring in the Chest of Demons for my upcoming reboot of 13GSD for Dimension Four, I figured I could use the crossover as both a wheel for how I intend to depict the Chest while serving as a rewrite to Straight Outta Nowhere.

As with Meddling Kids in Nowhere, this story takes place in Dimension Five Timeline One, which consists of APNSD, 1990s versions of SDWAY and TSDS, the Johnny Bravo crossover episodes, WNSD, the 2004-2009 DTVs and my upcoming revision of the first two live-action films.

I don't own Scooby-Doo or Courage the Cowardly Dog. Hanna-Barbera Productions, Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network does.

We interrupt this program to bring in Courage the Cowardly Dog Show! Starring: Courage, the Cowardly Dog!

Abandoned as a pup, Courage is found by Muriel, who lives in the middle of Nowhere with her husband Eustace Bagge.

But creepy stuff happens in Nowhere, so it's up to Courage to save his new home!

(Television is turned off by remote)

Eustace: Stupid dog, you make me look bad!

(Eustace reaches for his green mask)

Eustace: OOGA BOOGA BOOGA!

Courage: Yaaaaaahhhhhhhh!

Chapter 1: Two activities, two trances

April 19, 2003

(Mystery Inc.)

"Now to see who this ghost clown really is." Fred declared as he and Mystery Inc. gathered around a hideous-looking clown who is tangled up in a net and the blonde prepares to pull the mask off.

As soon as the blonde pulls the mask off, revealing a bald man with a brown moustache and some hair around the back of his head beneath the mask, Daphne gasped.

"Why, it's Mr. McGill." Daphne said. "He is the Ghost Clown of the Sewers."

"Indeed he is." Velma nodded as a couple of sheriffs deputies proceeded to untangle the unmasked clown from the net and handcuff him. "He has been embezzling money from the Sedgwick National Bank for quite some time."

"And he has been using the nearby storm sewers as an access point to get in and out of the bank at night hours to provide the illustration of a ghost clown being responsible for robbing the bank after he has already taken the money when finishing up at work earlier that day." Shaggy added.

As the gang continued to wrap up the mystery, Scooby was standing nearby and sniffing Mr. McGill's clown costume when he suddenly stopped and perked up.

"Ruh?" Scooby enquired as his ears picked up a strange noise.

The strange noise soon overcome the gang's voices as they continued speaking, it was only a matter of seconds before that strange noise was the only thing Scooby heard.

It looked as though the gang and the sheriff were simply moving their lips, and it wasn't long before Scooby found himself deep in a trance.

All the while, as the sheriff was speaking, Shaggy glanced around and noticed that Scooby was staring longer than usual without blinking, which prompted him to walk to the Great Dane and wave his hand in front of his eyes.

"Um, Scoob?" Shaggy asked as he waved in front of Scooby's eyes.

When the Great Dane neither reacted nor blinked, Shaggy raised an eyebrow as he continued waving his hand in front of Scooby.

"Scooby Doo, are you okay?" Shaggy asked.

By this point, the sheriff had nodded at the two deputies, who then proceeded to take Mr. McGill into custody.

"And I would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dog!" Mr. McGill yelled as he was loaded onto the back of the sheriff's cruiser.

After the sheriff's cruisers pulled away, Fred and the girls turned towards Shaggy, who was still trying to get Scooby's attention.

"Is something the matter, Shaggy?" Daphne asked.

"Something's up with Scooby." Shaggy replied as he snapped his fingers in front of the Great Dane. "He seems to be in a trance."

"A trance?" Velma asked as she and Fred leaned closer towards Scooby, whose eyes remained still.

Seeing that Scooby still wasn't reacting to Shaggy's gestures, Fred frowned as he said, "Scooby?"

As Fred also waved his hand in front of Scooby's eyes, Daphne reached into her purse for something.

"Here." She said as she pulled out a whistle. "Let me give it a try."

After Fred and Shaggy moved out of the way, the redhead leaned closer to Scooby and blew the whistle.

The whistle blowing seems to do the trick, for Scooby began to blink before he enquired, "Ruh?"

"Scooby, are you alright?" Velma asked.

"Like, you seem to have come under a trance." Shaggy added.

"Re rance?" Scooby asked, prompting the gang to nod.

With a brief frown, Scooby tried to think about the past several moments, thinking back to while the gang were wrapping up the mystery.

"Rid rou guys reard something?" Scooby asked.

"While we were wrapping things up?" Fred asked before he, Shaggy and the girls exchanged glances and shook their heads.

"We didn't hear anything." Velma said. "Perhaps someone was blowing a dog whistle nearby and put you into that trance?"

"Possible." Shaggy nodded as he and Scooby exchanged looks.

"Anyways, we should definitely get moving if we want to make it to that appointment in Townsville on Monday, gang." Fred suggested.

"Good idea." Velma concurred as they all made their way to the Mystery Machine.

As they got on the Mystery Machine, Scooby was unusually silent.

He couldn't exactly describe that feeling, but something was bothering him about being under a trance earlier. He couldn't quite put his paw on it.

(Courage and the Bagges)

Around that same time, over at Nowhere, Courage and the Bagges were in the town supermarket getting groceries.

Eustace was standing in the produce section looking at the vegetables, and he scowled when his eyes settled on the eggplants.

"Stupid eggplants. Never liked 'em." He muttered as he waved his hand dismissively at the eggplants. "And at 75 cents a pound, it ain't cheap."

Elsewhere in the supermarket, Courage and Muriel were checking out the cake mixes and other baking essentials.

As Muriel picked up a box of cookie mix, Courage looked around the aisle and noticed a cake mix for flan.

At the sight of the word "flan" on the packaging, Courage began experiencing flashbacks as it reminded him of his tangling with the King of Flan that past summer.

It was then that his ears perked up as they picked up a strange noise, and in seconds, that strange noise overcome the background noise in the supermarket, including the lousy supermarket music that was playing through the overhead speakers.

Muriel certainly did not seem to have taken notice of Courage going stiff, for she took a couple of the cookie mix packages and headed down the aisle, in time to see Eustace pushing the cart to the aisle.

"You got all the produce on the list, Eustace?" Muriel asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I did." Eustace responded as he held out the grocery list. "Got the onions, zucchinis, pineapples, tomatoes and mushrooms. Also stopped by the butchers to pick up the meatloaf."

"Excellent." Muriel smiled cheerfully. "I've got the cookie mix and vinegar. I think that is all we need from here today."

"Good, let's head to the checkout and get out of here." Eustace said. "Saw that promotion for real-cheap burgers at Jean Bon's and I would hate to have to line up when we stop by there for supper."

Muriel nodded as she placed the products on Eustace's cart, then they proceeded for the checkout. On the way out, Muriel noticed that Courage wasn't with them and then saw him still standing at the boxes of flan mix.

"Oh dear, I almost forgot about Courage." Muriel said, prompting Eustace to frown as he saw the dog standing still.

"You go to the checkout, Muriel." Eustace said as he walked towards Courage. "I'll get the stupid dog."

When he got to Courage, the farmer said, "Come on, stupid dog. We're checking out!"

However, Courage didn't respond, which prompted Eustace to briefly raise an eyebrow and scratch his head in confusion.

"C'mon, stupid dog. We're heading out." Eustace said as he waved his hand in front of Courage. "You hear?"

Courage still didn't respond, which prompted Eustace to frown as he muttered, "Wise guy, eh? Think you can ignore me like this, perhaps this will teach ya!"

The farmer pulled out his green mask and put it on as he exclaimed, "OOGA BOOGA BOOGA!"

His loud voice caused Courage to snap out of the trance he was in, and he screamed in fright at the sight of the green mask.

Lifting his green mask, Eustace laughed as he pointed at the frightened look on Courage's face, which is when a rolling pin came out of nowhere and smacked right onto his head.

"Ow!" Eustace exclaimed as he turned around, revealing Muriel as she held the rolling pin. "What did I do?!"

"What took you?" Muriel asked with a frown.

"Stupid dog didn't respond when I called him." Eustace said. "Seemed to have drifted off to dream land or somethin'."

Muriel grunted before she turned towards Courage and asked, "Is something the matter, Courage?"

Courage racked his brain as he tried to remember the circumstances leading to him seemingly getting into a trance, but other than that strange noise he heard, he didn't remember anything else.

"Uh-uh." Courage replied as he shook his head, prompting Muriel and Eustace to exchange looks.

"Perhaps it was that dog food you got for him the other day, Muriel." Eustace offered.

"Perhaps, Eustace." Muriel nodded thoughtfully. "Either way, we wouldn't want to be late for our dinner date at Jean Bon's Burgers now."

"Good thinking, Muriel." Eustace smiled as he took over pushing the cart. "Let's go."

As Eustace leads the way, Muriel reaches down to pick Courage up.

"Don't worry, Courage." Muriel said to him reassuringly as they followed Eustace. "I know you enjoyed that brand of dog food, so maybe someone was blowing a dog whistle nearby that put you in a trance or something."

Courage said nothing, though as the Bagges checked out their groceries and headed to the pickup truck, it felt like something was bothering him, though he couldn't quite put his paw in it.
