A/N: Hey guys! Next chapter, WOO! haha okay, so this chapter kinda does explain stuff, but it also doesn't. That's cos more will be explained in later chapters. This is also Part 2 of last chapter, so it follows on. Thanks again guys, you know how much I less than three you all. Enjoy! x L.
I took a sip of water, wondering where the best place to start was. There was so much to tell, and Charlie would be back in a couple of hours. I curved my hands around the glass, glancing out the kitchen window before turning back to Edward and Bella.
"Spirits…are different from what you are used to hearing about. For one, they aren't harmful – unless you wake them up on the wrong side of the bed," I joked, rolling my eyes at Robert. He pulled a face as I remembered the many times I had woken him up from his 'sleep' as a kid. Corporal punishment had taken on a whole new meaning.
"In fact," I continued, "they are the complete opposite of harmful." I took a deep breath. Bella was watching me intently, unconsciously moving closer to Edward.
"Spirits, for years and years, have been known as the protectors of the weak. Those who…cannot…protect themselves are…usually blessed with a Spirit." My voice stumbled on the last sentence.
"Like a guardian angel?" Bella asked. I nodded head, smiling. "Yeah, just like a guardian angel. They watch over you, making sure you don't come into harm's way."
"So you are saying that you have one of these Spirits looking after you?" Edward asked. I nodded more slowly this time, giving up the secret I had kept for nine years.
"That doesn't explain everything though." I glared at Edward. "Who said I had finished?" Edward lay out his hands, motioning me to continue.
I turned to Bella. "Are you following me? No questions?" I asked her. Bella nodded. "I think I'm following, but…can't people see spirits?"
I opened my mouth to talk, but Edward cut me off. "Spirits are invisible. They only appear to the person they are protecting," he explained. Both Bella and I looked at him. While Bella was curious, I glared at Cullen. This was supposed to be my story.
"Woah, calm down there Ally," Robert chuckled, making me scowl even more.
"Spirits don't always have to reveal themselves to a person however," I continued, ignoring Robert's comment. "It's purely the Spirit's choice, whether or not they do reveal themselves. Some people can go their whole lives without knowing that they have a Spirit looking out for them."
"Which is sometimes for the best if you ask me," Robert muttered. I shot him a dirty look. "Would you like to tell the story?" I burst out angrily. "Or would you like me to? Because when I speak, they can actually hear me." I smiled sarcastically as Robert laughed. "Hey, I'm not the one who looks like I'm talking to myself," was his reply, his usual sweet smile on his face. I looked from him to Bella and Edward, both of whom were staring at me strangely.
"I swear I'm not crazy. It's just someone has a little attitude problem." I ignored the sarcastic eye rolls I was getting from Robert.
"Let me guess," Bella began slowly. "Spirits are only visible to those they protect." She cracked a small smile. At least she could see the funny side of this.
"You guessed correct. This is why Amanda from the agency always had a hard time placing me with a family. I was considered a little more…different because of the frequent tendencies I had to talk to myself," I laughed. "So it's sort of a funny arrangement I guess. A Spirit can reveal itself, but it doesn't have to. The person can go on living, thinking that it's just luck on their side."
Bella nodded. I realized that a lot of head nodding was going on today. "It's all kind of starting to make sense. Although, there are some things that I still don't understand." "Like what?" I asked. I wound my fingers around each other, fidgeting. Question and answer time I was not only making me nervous, but a little bored as well.
The whole strength thing for one. And why couldn't Edward read his mind? Or yours? I thought it was only my mind that was on the…different frequency," Bella babbled.
I bit my lip. I felt like one of the CIA being tortured for information. "The mind thing is...funny. I still can't grasp my head around it fully, but this is what I do know." I paused, taking a sip of water.
"Basically, it comes under the "laws" of protection," I said, mimicking quotes with my hands. "A Spirit can block your mind. It's that protecting thing again."
Edward spoke, the first time in a while. "Yet I have been able to read your mind on several occasions – the hospital for one."
I winced, trying not to remember that day. "Your mind can't be blocked twenty four seven," I explained. "Plus it is really uncomfortable. Days like Bella's first day at school or other days, my mind hasn't been blocked. Times like the hospital…Robert hasn't been there to block my mind," I muttered shortly.
"Robert? Your Spirit is a guy?" Bella asked with an amused look on her face. "Yep," I grinned. Edward was looking the other way, like he was thinking about something.
"Is he here? In the room?" Bella leaned forward. "Of course!" I laughed. I turned my head to the left, looking at Robert. Through the corner of my eye, I could see Bella looking as well, yet finding no-one sitting next to me on the edge of the table.
"The strength," Edward started to talk, completely ignoring the conversation we were having. "I do not understand where that comes from. Spirits, according to what I have learnt, are not as strong nor as fast as vampire, protecting people or not."
I closed my eyes, sighing. When I opened them, I looked at my palms instead of Bella and Edward. "This is the part you may not believe." I glanced at Robert again. His face was blank. No laughing, no teasing smile. He knew how important this part was.
"Robert's also a vampire."
We sat in silence (or was it shock?) for a while. I purposely didn't say anything, letting Bella and Edward digest the information.
"Your Spirit guardian is also a vampire?" Edward spoke first. "How is that even possible?"
"A Spirit Vampire is rare. Even rarer than the Spirits themselves. Yet it does happen. Spirits can also become vampires. It's very rare," I repeated. "I'm sorry Ally, but that does sound crazy," Bella remarked. "I know," I laughed. "Why do you think I never told you in the first place? You would never have believed me. Until now of course," I added, looking pointlessly at Edward.
"How? That's what I would like to know," Edward asked. I sighed. "It's simple really. The Spirit must enter their "person" in order to create a new Spirit. It is life sacrifice really – the old Spirit dies, the new Spirit lives in its infinite wisdom. To create a Spirit Vampire, however, a person must be…bitten first. The Spirit then enters the body, giving up their life forever. And ta-da!" I threw my hands in the air for effect.
"That explains the strength then," Edward mused, rubbing his neck in memory. "Sorry," I grimaced. "I forgive you Ally," Edward smiled slightly.
"Bella?" I asked, concerned. She hadn't said anything for a while. "I'm still slightly confused," she replied, furrowing her brow.
"Charlie will be home soon," Edward said abruptly, standing up. "I should go." Bella frowned. "You will be back, right?" she asked, standing up with him. I raised my eyebrows. "You're coming back?" Edward turned to face me. "Only to pick up Bella. We are going out."
"Ah," I mused. Edward then turned to no-one in particular. "Robert, it was a…pleasure to meet you." I giggled, pointing Edward to my left to where Robert really stood. "You must meet my family, especially Carlisle, one day. They will be very interested to meet you."
Edward left, leaving Bella and I (and Robert) alone in awkward silence in the house for a few minutes. Sure enough, minutes later I heard the unmistakable sound of Charlie's police car settle in the driveway.
E/N: Okay, please don't hate me for another cliffie. This isn't really a cliffie, so don't stress. I needed to end it here because of the next chapter...you'll understand in all good time! :D
