To your utmost dismay, another Grimm attack was launched at Mantle. The casualty mark was too great to keep count, and the damage was irreversible. Walls are destroyed houses and trade outposts crumbled. People are scared, no…everyone is scared. It is an uphill battle, due to recent attacks the relationship between Mistral and Mantle deepened; Mistral went as far as to give away some troops for another wave. Will report back once I acquire more information.

Silky blond hair ran down, crystal blue eyes scanning each word over and over again as if it'd change.

Unfortunately, yet another strike. Many troops haven't slept from the onslaught of battles, and the hunger situation fixed itself, though not for the common people. The generals started to use Faunus as bait luring Grimm kind into a focal area and torching them from all angles. Apparently, there will be another meeting soon in which the main topic will be the recent attacks.

Smooth calluses free fingers smudged the ink on the paper, grinding his teeth together he let out a shaky breath. Maintaining peace all around would be harder than he assumed.

Without much resistance, they passed a decree. Starting as soon as morning they will begin implementing emotional suppression upon their citizens. Mantle assumes this is a counter to the recent waves and Mistral importantly began looking into the action not long ago, if I stopped sending updates assume I've been caught my liege.

"Emotional suppression? Such a barbaric way to prevent Grimm from sniffing you out, but how would they enforce such behavior besides a scare tactic?" The question filled his gut, humans had a bottomless pit of curiosity people often labeled knowledge as power, and they were correct. Shuffling through papers, blue eyes glued onto the final note.

Apparently, rumors say, Mistral is using emotional suppression to keep the lower class under submission. So far, things don't seem swell on this side. I've been marked, communication will be shut down until I get rid of this annoying tick.

"In theory, emotional suppression was bound to fail if a human can keep their emotions in check, they don't deserve to be called human." Exhaling, his left hand massaged his temple. Each letter seemed to grow shorter as if the writer was running out of time, luckily the leaders of Mantle and Mistral were baboons so his spy was able to get important information into the air. "The last letter was sent five months ago, which means the commotion regarding that area will soon overwhelm them. If I was Mistral my current position wouldn't seem favorable. Oh, on one hand, we have our neighbors and comrades suffering from sporadic battles, while the other side is as ripe as can be." Crumbling each letter, the paper slid through his knuckles. Advocating peace could only get him so far, but it was for the best.

Wooden doors creaked open hastily, "My King, Mistral has invaded our land." Ozma chuckled before standing, cape wrinkling with movement. It seems a mouse was searching for a bigger piece of cheese, and once it got a whiff of the location it wouldn't stop.

"Gather some commanders and units, we'll intercept them now!" Mistral was the opposite of Vale, Ozma knew their king had different views on life. For example, their use of slaves and treatment of citizens. The king of Mistral was along the lines of an overzealous human as if whatever he liked was how life should be lived. Economy-wise, they were well off and with Mantle behind them peace would be the best decision. Mantle was advanced, but that didn't make them invincible.

"The King is approaching assume, position." Ozma squinted at his loyal citizens, the diversity was there. Certain Faunus could be spotted in the ranks, and that wasn't necessarily a bad thing; the idea of slavery was gradually changing around Vale. Some Faunus were born free, as their parents thought, while others were still slaves. The sigma around them wouldn't change unless something drastic occurred.

"Are the airships ready?"

Ozma went over each scenario in his head over and over again, there was a slim chance his peaceful approach would quench the thirst of Mistral's King. As long as he came defenseless the psychological battle would begin, and the last thing he wanted was physical violence, but facing such a man violence was the answer. "Sir, no matter what happens you must stay within eyesight of us." Ozma returned a nod and threw his head back, in terms of military Vale was ahead of the people of his Kingdom. They were trained differently than others, especially those gifted.

The onslaught of chatter around him drew his thoughts away, people were talking as if they weren't about to change history and it drew a smile out of him. His people were a part of humanity. If it came down to it, he'd kill the King of Mistral with no hesitation. A tower without a sturdy foundation will tumble until it's dust.

Light sneaked through the trees, blessing his men as a gust of wind welcomed them. The land they were on was fertile, something Mistral settlers knew nothing about. "Intruding on Vale's eastern islands without permission? Even I don't have to explain what laws are to a fellow ruler." Crystal-blue eyes scanned the round bald man, even with his faults Ioda wasn't stupid enough to come unarmed, his men were most likely set around waiting for a signal.

"Didn't our ancestors take what they wanted? Why should we stop the custom they started?" Ioda's lips parted with a smile, his natural brown eyes picking apart each of Ozma's manpower. "Regardless, the strong should stand on top."

Clicking his tongue Ozma pointed towards the sky, "If our ancestor's ideals were right, you wouldn't be trespassing, correct?" Stepping forward, both men eyed each other. But to the spectators considering the King of Vale hovered above Mistral's short and round King, it was quite a pathetic scene. "Listen, there is enough land for the both of us. I say we find some middle ground."

"Does everyone hear this!? Ozma is scared of Mistral's power, so here he's here to offer a deal!" Ioda looped around the taller male, "It seems Vale's military is fucking pathetic! Where is your backbone? The stories of the warriors here that can cut down tens of men in seconds!?"

"You seem to forget where you are." Yanking Ioda back, Ozma bent to his level blond hair covering his ears and hanging around his neck. "The men you sent ahead in order to scout the region have been killed…take that as a lesson." Dusting Ioda's shoulder Ozma shook his head, "You must've needed a reminder of who exactly rules this land." Lifting the male chuckled fixing his hair, "Next time, your head will be rolling on the ground." Backing away, both kings glared authority was a double-edged sword but neither could stop the high it gave. "You're right Ioda, the strong is on top." Stepping back towards his men, Ozma cracked a smile.

"Safe travels…Ozma."

"My liege!" The old man bowed earnestly, "Mistral have attacked our settlers, they are currently defending but word will reach their King shortly!" Ozma rose from his chair glancing out the padded window, "We all expressed doubts in this peaceful agreement, now is the time to act!" The usual old man shared his thoughts, hands on the floor.

"Our position isn't favorable, but they knew that and went forward." Ozma side-eyed his old commander, "Spies or luck? Well, luck favors the bold." Crystal-blue eyes fell forward, jaw clenching. "Gather two units and eradicate the men coming to intercept the land, Ioda would use this disturbance to display power to his people." As the old man left the room, strands of blond hair cascaded down his forehead falling in front of his vision, "Mistral has Mantle for support, luckily we have troops on standby and many recruits climbing the rank; but the time frame isn't in our favor, delaying both sides would work in our favor which means playing risky."

As war broke out months later neither side would know how long it would span, the lives lost…and who it really affected. But this tale isn't about how each faction strives for greed or change… it's about the ones that took part in the gruesome battle from start to end.

My profile has updates for current stories and when to expect them, sorry for being away. I couldn't have a cellular device where I was located, and when I returned most of my items were gone. Currently in the process of retrieving my old motherboard with all my files, but in the meantime here is a project I began with pen and paper originally. SYOC the limit date will be on my profile, any other questions pm me.
