Chapter One
The Bloody
Raoul, the Viscount de Chagny, rode up in his carriage to the opera house where Christine, his wife, the Vicountess de Changy, lived with Madame Giry, her mentor.
As the carriage pulled up in front of Christine's house, Madame Giry, who was in her traditional long-sleeve and black dress with black buttons at the top of the dress and whose hair was in its traditional bun with a ponytail on the left, was sadly drinking a glass of water and finishing up the white half-mask of her painting of a white half-mask that was in front of a fire.
Once she had finished up the mask, she stopped and turned her head to the right to "admire" her handiwork.
While this was going on, Raoul exited his carriage and he walked up to Christine's house until a package that was on the porch caught his attention. In response, he smiled, picked up the package and continued on his way. He knocked on the door of the opera house.
"Christine," Madame Giry said, without taking her attention off the painting. There was no response.
The wheelchair-bound since the accident Christine, who was in a long-sleeve and white satin blouse with a long black skirt and whose hair was held back by a black scrunchie, had not answered because she was too involved in the book about Paris that she was hunched over.
"Christine, someone's here," Madame Giry called again, finally catching Christine's attention.
"I'm involved in something else," Christine called back, without taking her attention off the book.
Raoul rang the bell again.
"Christine, I'm begging you," Madame Giry said, this time in annoyance.
In response, Christine rolled away from the kitchen table, where she had been, and she rolled into the main area, where Madame Giry and the front door were. "You always ask me to get the door," she complained as she rolled past Madame Giry, who was smiling and watching her.
"What dare did I interrupt that you were so involved in," Madame Giry smiled and asked.
"I was playing Chess," Christine shrugged.
"You cheat," Madame Giry smiled at her.
"I know," Christine smiled before she answered the door, revealing Raoul in the process.
"Greetings," Raoul smiled down at her.
In response, Christine smiled and laughed. "Greetings," she said, playing along with his game.
"This package is for a…" Raoul paused as he pretended to the read the package. "Vicountess de Chagny," he read. "Do you know her," he asked.
In response, Christine, pretending to think, smiled and brought her finger up to her chin. "I do not," she said. "However," she smiled and reached her arm out to take the package. "I can give it to her."
"Great," Raoul smiled and he handed the package to Christine. "You know," he smiled, breaking out of character. "They're doing Faust in Paris…"
In response, Christine smiled excitedly.
" Faust," she exclaimed. "I love Faust!"
"I know," Raoul smiled sincerely.
Suddenly, his smile became sad and excited, all at the same time.
"Come with me," he smiled honestly.
In response, Christine smiled; however, her smile soon disappeared. She looked down sadly and nodded as if out of understanding something. Christine looked back up at Raoul.
"Raoul," she said carefully. "You know I'd love to, but I…" She looked down again. "I can't," she finished before she looked back up at him. "A lot of the opera buildings in Paris are old and deteriorated," she explained. "And… they aren't built for…" She looked down again. "People like me," she finished before she looked back up at him.
In response, Raoul sadly looked at her.
"I can stay home this round," he shrugged. "If you want me to…"
"No, go," Christine smiled and shooed him away.
"Okay," Raoul sadly said. "I love you…"
"I love you, too," Christine sadly said and they kissed.
Raoul sadly nodded and he left.
"Bye," Christine said after him and Madame Giry joined her.
"Did Raoul want me to go with him," Christine excitedly asked and joined Madame Giry.
"Christine, you've always been like a daughter to me," Madame Giry gently said in response.
In response, Christine looked at Madame Giry in confusion.
What was Madame Giry talking about?
"I think Raoul wanted me to go with him," Christine insisted. In response, Madame Giry laughed.
"Christine," she said as she closed the door to their house. "Dear Christine… Raoul was just being a gentleman," Madame Giry's tone turned sad.
In response, Christine shoved the box that she had been holding into Madame Giry's hands.
"I thought you said that you were not going to buy more ballerina costumes," Christine said. "And I'm going with Raoul," she added defiantly before she rolled out of the room.
