Chapter 1
Hello all this story was once known as "Brain and Brawn" where I gave the Luffy the Goro Goro no mi. Upon reflection I realized that I really didn't want to write that story... just some personal reasons. Anyway some changes have been made, one of which is that the first two chapters were condensed down into this first chapter you are about to read. My apologizes to anyone who was excited to see where a Goro Goro no mi Luffy would go. Though I think you may find this Logia a bit more interesting, especially some of the corners I'll have to write myself out of to have it actually work. Regardless thank you for taking the time to read. Enjoy
Shores of Foosha Village - East Blue
Floating on a single sail vessel on the seas surrounding a small island is a 17 year old boy sporting a straw hat atop his black mane, he is wearing a purple long sleeved button down accompanied with a loose fitting black tie, a pair of black dress pants and shoes, on his waist sits a tied purple sash that gently flows with the sea breeze, and a jet black backpack on his back. The only thing that accompanies him is a lonely barrel filled with supplies and food.
"Stay safe Luffyyy!" Shouts a black hair woman
"Do us proud!" "Come back safe!" Fulfill your dreams!" A cacophony of shouts follow the initial woman's well wishes for the youth she views as something of a little brother.
Said young man is currently leaning against at the top end of his vessel, body facing the shore of his hometown, hat over shadowing his eyes in an effort to obscure the physical reaction to the sense of melancholy he feels at finally leaving the people he's known for so many years of his life. Suddenly a large splash rings out behind him, turning around the young man sees a large serpentine-eel like sea beast emerge with hunger in its eye.
"Lord of the Coast... my apologies but I can't allow you to delay my journey" The young man announces nonchalantly.
"Run Luffy!" the woman shouts in panic as the beast lets out a roar and charges as the teenage
"Relax Makino" the young man whispers underneath his breath. Casually the straw hat teen pointed his index finger at the beast shooting a ray at light at it. Almost instantaneously a massive explosion engulfed the creature.
"..." stunned silence and gasps fill the onlookers on the cliff as the small Seaking that once ruled the coast around their home was so casually killed.
Turning around he waves and shouts with a smile on his face "Shishishi, goodbye everyone, after I find the one piece, discover the truth of the world, and become king of the pirates I'll come back to visit!"
Hours later - East Blue
"Man that whirlpool just showed up out of nowhere, I really need a navigator..." The young man known as Luffy said to himself as he just narrowly managed to paddle his vessel out of the path of a spontaneous whirlpool that caught in the middle of a nap. "I need to remember to be more careful, I'm not in Foosha Village anymore, anything can happen at any moment". Walking over to his Barrell Luffy took out a map and compass to chart a course. "Hmm so Shells Town is in that direction huh" He said mapping out the best way to try and recruit his first crewmate. Pirate Hunter Zoro huh I wonder what type of man you are. Hearing a noise in the distance his focus is shifted to another direction as Luffy sees what appears to be a ship with a Jolly Roger, which has to be some pirate ship, attacking another ship. "Ohh my first action at sea" the Straw Hat teen smiles as he grabs two rowing oars and starts to paddle to the scene at ridiculous speeds.
A few minutes later
Approaching at the end of the take-over, Luffy paddles towards the back of the pirate ship and ties his vessel to it, spotting another light ship twice the size of his also tied up there. Interesting did someone else have the same idea? But I don't hear anymore fighting. He thinks to himself as he disappears in a flash of light.
Deck of Alvida's ship- moments before Luffy ties up his boat
"Koby! Who is the most beautiful woman on the seas?!" A large whale of a woman with freckles on her faces demands-shouts to a clearly terrified pink hair boy.
"Why its you of course Alvida-sama" the boy known as Koby replied rubbing the back of his head, terrified of giving any other response for fear of physical retaliation.
"Hahaha that's right an-"
Her brash speech was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a tall man right next to Koby
"Eh who are you, where- where did you come from?" She asked stunned at his appearance. Looking at the man before her, she saw a seven foot nine inches straw-hat wearing man that seemingly appeared out of thin air.
"Me? I'm Monkey D. Luffy." Luffy announced. As his eyes surveyed his surrounds, the morbidly obese woman with overly large spiked mace in front of him, as well as the collection of armed men behind her.
"A-ah I see, you have come to jo-" Alvida started after recovering from her shock a slightly growing trepidation.
"Who are you" Luffy interrupted her
"I'm Alvida the most beau-"
"Is he with you as well?" Luffy pointed at the pink hair boy next to him
"Who him? Yeah I made him our janitor, he knows his place beneath the boo-"
"Made him, by force?"
"Stop interrupting me-!" Alvida yelled annoyed before launch into a monologue of who she was.
Why does she need to lecture me on her misdeeds Luffy thought as Alvida bragged about her 'accomplishments'.
"Go ahead and tell him Koby who is the most beautiful woman on the seas!" Alvida shouted at the end of her villan-esque speech.
"W-w-why its y-" Koby started to stammer out
"Oi you aren't really going to say that this pathetic excuse for a creature is a woman are you?" Luffy asked, who he now identified as Koby, shocking everyone present causing an eerie silence to come over the area.
"AHHH Luffy-san apologize and repeat after me!" Coby panicked
"Apologize to these weakling scum that attacked an innocent civilian ship?' Luffy questioned pointing at the group of pirates
"Weakling!?" Shouted Alivida in a rage. "I'll show you weakling!" She screamed as she charged at Luffy club raised to hit his midsection.
"Ahh!" Koby screamed shutting his eyes This is it, I'm going to die, after all my time spent cleaning up after these monsters, dreaming of escape but too scared for my life. As the seconds ticked by he could hear Alvida approaching, then the moment it seemed as though she was right in front of him the sounds of her foot steps stopped followed by stunned silence. Opening his eyes he was greeted with the sight of Luffy standing with an outstretched hand firmly holding Alvida's spike mace in place.
"Yep definitely weakling scum" Luffy confirmed. With a single open palm thrust to her midsection he sent Alvida flying back and crashing into her ship.
"Captain Alvida!" her crew screamed and reacted by attempting to attack Luffy and Koby, swords drawn.
"Relax Koby" Luffy said to a panicking Koby before he blitzed forward obliterating the entirety of the Alvida pirates with nothing but his striking prowess.
"W-what is this" Koby shook like a leaf on the ground after witnessing the giant of a man tear throw the totality of the Alivda pirates like training dummies.
Turning around Luffy began walking to the clearly scared out of his mind Koby. "From what she said they forced you into janitorial labor for them right?" Receiving a nod from the boy Luffy continued "I'm guessing you were too afraid to even attempt to leave" Another nod "Shishishi, although I understand why, I don't like cowards. Come on I have a boat tied up at the back I can drop you off at the nearest island" Luffy said walking away "Ah I'm going to Shells Town by the way. I understand they have a Marine base there if that makes you feel better." he called out over his shoulder prompting Koby to finally willingly get to his feet.
As the pair descended into Luffy's boat the disappearance of the other vessel that was previous tied up next to Luffy's did not go unnoticed by him. I didn't see nor hear anyone. They must be quite good at moving around quietly, probably mostly experienced in getting out of Jams. They also didn't interfere in the fighting at all, so they probably had an ulterior motive... Luffy pondered as he untied the rope anchoring his boat to Alvida's ship. They could have come to gather information on the Alvida pirates... but they were too weak to be worth all that effort for someone who can sneak in and out undetected... no most likely they came to take something of value, the only question now is what for... money, treasure, maps, weapons?
"Ah excuse me Luffy-san, but how was it you were able to take down all of Alvida's crew so easily" Koby broke him from his musings
"When I was a 7 years old I ate a Devil fruit known as the Pika Pika no mi and became a light human, to get proper control over my powers I had to hone my body through rigorous training both mental and physical." Luffy said as he confirmed the course for Shell's Town. "Honestly though they were so weak I didn't have to use my devil fruit power at all"
"Light human?" Koby asked confused
"Yeah see." Luffy said raising a finger illuminating the area. "Though now I'll never be able to swim... even though I spent so much time learning" Luffy muttered with a pout.
Staring at Luffy stupefied, Koby's logical brain seemed to shut down until he remember noticing something "Ah are you a navigator Luffy-san?" He inquired remembering seeing his rescuer mapping out their destination.
"No, I just know the basics, I need to recruit a navigator for my crew"
"Crew? Are you trying to be an explorer or a bounty hunter?"
"Shishishi no I'm a pirate, I'm going to be the next King of the Pirates" Luffy informed with a wide smile on his face
"K-K-K-King of the Pirates?! That's absolutely impossible, you can't do it, it can't be done, you'll be killed in the-"
"Koby!" Luffy cut him off "Did you already forget how easily I took care of the land whale and her crew?"
"Well yes but there are-"
"I know that there are many people far stronger than I am now, pirates, marines, bounty hunters, but I'll get much stronger on my journey, I'll recruit people who will stand by me and I them and together we'll achieve our dreams"
"What if you can't do it or die?" Koby challenged
"If I can't make it or die then that was as far as my potential allowed me to go and I'll be satisfied with that. After all, what greater freedom is there than limitlessly pursing your own dreams.?"
"..." Stunned Koby gazed upon Luffy in absolute admiration. The man in front of him exuded strength, intelligence, and a seemingly iron clad will. "Do you think I can achieve my dreams too?"
"Oohh, what's your dream Koby?"
"To be a Marine and capture criminals like Alvida!" Koby proclaimed.
"Shishsishi well I don't know if you can accomplish it, that's entirely up to your ability and will"
"No I well achieve it no matter what!" Koby assured himself more than Luffy
"Shishi, well that would make us adversaries no?"
"A-aah I guess you're right Luffy-san" Koby sheepishly said rubbing the back of his head "but even though we just met I feel like we're already friends"
"Hmm that's true... well its settled then... I'll be the king of the pirates while you hunt down and capture as many pirates as you can" Luffy promised extending a hand for Koby to shake
"Agreed!" Koby responded with a smile reciprocating the shake both unaware of the fate that was just sealed in that moment.
Beaches Of Shells Town
"We got here really fast Luffy-san, are you sure you aren't a navigator" Koby teased
"Shishishi who knows, perhaps I could be" Luffy joked as he and Koby walked through the town after docking his vessel.
"If you don't mind me asking Luffy-san why do you carry that backpack with you everywhere and why did you want to come to Shells Town specifically?" Koby inquired
"I mainly keep all the beli I saved up for the start of my adventure in here, plus." Luffy said digging into his backpack, taking out a newspaper. "Here it says the 'Pirate Hunter' Zoro was recently arrested and set to be executed" Luffy pointed out in an article. Though it did not go unnoticed by both he and Koby that the civilians nearby jumped back at the mention of Zoro's name.
"Are you sure about this Luffy-san? Look at how the people around reacted to his name. It even says here that he was sentenced by the Marine Captain Morgan" this time at Koby saying the name 'Morgan' the civilians once again jumped back in fear.
"How interesting, well now I really want to see if he is suitable to join my crew" Luffy said with a smile
A while later at the execution grounds
Both Luffy and Koby were looking over the walls surrounding the execution grounds where a one Roronoa Zoro was currently tied up to a small crucifix.
"So that's him huh the infamous pirate hunter of the East Blue" Luffy comment upon seeing his first potential crew mate
"Be careful Luffy-san its said he's a demon that's never lost a fight and always brings in whatever bounty he goes after. But with all the bounties he's brought in for the Marines I wonder what he could have done for them to arrest him." Koby pondered
"Well let's ask him" Luffy said as he disappeared with in a flash of light
"Luffy-san wai-"
Almost instantaneous Luffy appeared in front of Zoro. Looking up Zoro saw a tall man wearing a straw hat, and black backpack materialize seemingly out of nowhere in front of him.
"Who are you? Get lost" Zoro said to Luffy
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy, you are Roronoa Zoro correct?" Luffy asked and received a nob in confirmation. "Based on your reputation, you should be more than capable of getting out of these ropes. How long have you been tied up here?"
"Ten days" Zoro responded
"I imagine they haven't fed you either. Quite impressive. Say I'm a pirate looking for his first crewmate. What do you say wanna join the future pirate king's crew?" Luffy asked with a wide smile
"Pirate King? That's quite the ambition. But it seems like you've given up on life to pursue being a scum." Zoro replied.
Ignoring Zoro's verbal jab at his ambition Luffy pushed on "why don't you escape, a man like you wouldn't be forced in a position like this normally"
Smirking at the recognition as his prowess Zoro replied "I have my reasons"
Next to Koby by the wall of the execution grounds a little girl put up a wooden ladder and proceeded to climb it. At the top she look around, jumped down, and ran towards Zoro completely ignoring Luffy.
"Onii-chan I brought you some rice balls, I made them myself" The girl informed with a hopeful smile attempting to hand the rice balls to him
"What are you doing? Get out of here!" Zoro reprimanded her
A scummy laugh flooded the area as the gates to the ground opened and a young blond haired youth entered trailed by two common marine soldiers. "come now Roronoa Zoro you should be nicer to little children, you don't want to be seen as a demon now do you?" The blond haired scum asked marching in.
"Don't forget our deal, I have another twenty days here, no one else is to be involved" Zoro reminded him watching as he walked to the little girl
"Yeah yeah" he waved Zoro off. "Oh are those rice balls?" he asked grabbing one swiftly taking a bite. After a few bites he spat out the remains of the rice ball. "Ugh rice balls are meant to be salty, s-a-l-t-y, not sweet you stupid girl!" the resident scum shouted at her.
"No don't, I made those for Oni-chan" she exclaimed with tears in her eyes
Stepping in before the scene could escalate Luffy went to his knees in front of the girl "hey there little one don't worry I'll take care of this, why don't you run along, I have a friend outside the gates, wait there with him yeah?" Luffy said staring into the girls eyes. For some reason unexplainable, to the girl who would usually not listen to a random stranger, she felt a sense of ease with the man in front of her and decided to go along with his recommendation.
"Blegh!" the girl stuck her tongue out at the blond hair scum before leaving.
"Hahaha well, its a good thing you know how to manage kids because I was just about to have her thrown out. After all everyone has to listen to me or I'll tell my dad the great marine Captain Morgan" scum announced to no one on particular. Turning to the tall straw-hat man he was about order him to leave, until their eyes met. Intimidated would be a word ill suited to describe how the man made him feel, worse yet he was almost assured in his sudden belief that the two marines he had behind him would be of little help if a confrontation started between their two parties. "W-well I'm bored here, time to go into town" he announced turning around, walking away "ah make sure you aren't here when I get back or the marines of Shells Town will be forced to take action and remove you" scum announced in his retreat attempting to save face, to who though, remained unknown to the less delusional present.
Turning back to Zoro, Luffy smiled "I can wait 20 days should nothing else change, then you'll be my first crewmate"
"You can't decide that on your own!" Zoro shouted at the man "Ah wait" he stopped Luffy seeing him about to leave. "That rice ball there on the floor can you pick it up and feed it to me please?" Zoro requested
"This? It's filled with dirt now" Luffy said
"That's fine just put it in my mouth" Zoro requested. As soon as the rice ball touched his tongue the pirate hunter began to desperately chew and eventually swallowing the snack "Tell the girl... that it was delicious and thank you" Zoro mumbled
"Ohhh now I definitely have to have you as my first mate" Luffy said with a smile and disappeared in a flash of light
"Where did he go?' Zoro asked blinking in confoundment "Wait did he just say first mate and not crewmate?"
Sometime later in a restaurant
Luffy, Coby, and the little girl eventually made their way to a restaurant owned by the little girl's mother, as she launched into an explanation of Zoro's situation. "After Captain Morgan was assigned here he has been demanding tribute and have his stupid son - Helmeppo scare everyone. One day the son had a pet wolf that was attacking me, Oni-chan killed it with his sword to save me. Helmeppo threatened to execute me if Oni-chan didn't come along with him. That's why he's stuck there because of me." the young girl cried
"Rika you shouldn't blame yourself for that" the girls mother Ririka commented dropping off food Luffy and Coby ordered at their table.
"But its true mom"
"Your mother's right Rika, Zoro made the choice to save you from that wolf same as how he made the choice to go along with the punishment to keep you safe from retribution." Luffy smiled, the more he learned about Zoro the more assured he was about his pick to have him as his first mate
"Hahaha that stupid pirate hunter, he really thinks I'm going to stick to our 'deal'?" Helmeppo announced walking into the restaurant and getting a table. "I think I'll have him executed today"
Hearing the loud mouth bragging Luffy got up and approached his table "Did you just say that you would move up the execution of Zoro?" Luffy asked calmly
"Huh? Of course I can do whatever I want" Helmeppo answered without looking up to see who he was addressing.
"Is that so?" Luffy glared down at him
"Wai-" Helmeppo's plea was cut short courtesy of a backhand from Luffy
"Come Koby, we are freeing my new first mate" Luffy instructing grabbing a plate of food and water.
Execution Grounds
Once again Zoro felt the shadow of a man suddenly appear before him
"The blond haired loudmouth broke his promise, he's bragging about executing you today" Luffy said shocking Zoro "Here eat up" He presented Zoro with the food"
"Damn I knew it" Zoro commented
"Hm I'll free you and you'll join my crew deal?" Luffy said with a smile.
"Huh you must be the son of the devil to offer such a deal"
"Luffy-san!" came the shout from Coby panting after finally catching up "I just saw Helmeppo go into the marine base"
"Well Zoro do we have a deal? After all, being a pirate will ruin your reputation." Luffy stated
"Hhm I don't care what people think of me, I live by my own code, I've never done anything I regret, and I don't intend to in the future. I only care about fulfilling my ambition, if at anytime you stand in the way of that I expect you to take responsibility and apologize" Zoro informed Luffy
"Oh you have an ambition Zoro? What is it?"
"To be the World's Strongest Swordsman"
"The World's Strongest huh... I would expect no less from the Right Hand of the Pirate King" Luffy said grabbing the rope holding Zoro and tearing it apart causing the ropes to fall to the ground. "By the way Zoro where are your swords? From the reports about you, you use three no?" Luffy asked as he handed Zoro the food and water.
"Yeah the bastard son, the same one you call the blond haired loud mouth, took them to the marine base over there" Zoro said pointed to the large building with the marine and world government insignia
"Bastard son... Shishishi, I like it"
Roof top of Marine Base
"I am great!" A large marine captain, known as axe hand Morgan, shouted at his men, who ere lifting a large statue as tribute to his perceived greatness. "Keep pulling men that statue is a symbol to my greatness, anyone that so much as scratches it will be executed by me personally. Here above the symbol of the world government and marines will stand a tribute solidifying my greatness."
"Daad!" Helmeppo screaming opening the door to the roof "I need you to execute someone for me!" he complains
"Huh did someone question my greatness?" Morgan asked his son
"Well no but he hit me your son!" Helmeppo complained
Walking up to his son Morgan asked "You seem to misunderstand, do you know why I never hit you?"
"Because I'm your most beloved son of cou-"
"Because you are a worthless, bastard son unworthy of even being hit by me!" Morgan cut off his son's response punching him in the face. "Do not misunderstand you are not the one who is great here, it is I, I've allowed you to get your way using my name as you are a representative of me but I do nothing for you"
Execution grounds
Surveying the building Luffy picked up noise coming from what sounded like the top of the building "There seem to be people on top of the base"
"Huh how can you tell that?" Zoro asked with Coby looking puzzled
"I can hear people talking, can't you?" Luffy asked him
"I don't hear anything..." Zoro replied
That's interesting I guess grandpa's training really is superior to most. "I can't hear what they're saying but they are definitely people up there" Luffy responded disappearing after angling himself in a straight line to the roof
"How does he keep doing that?" Zoro stared dumbly at the empty space in front of him
"Oh Luffy-san ate a Devil fruit, the Pika Pika no mi and became a light human.
"Light human?"
Roof top of Marine base
Appearing in the air above of the commotion Luffy spotted Helmeppo "ah there you are" Luffy smiled as he angled his body and then flashed next to Helmeppo grabbing the back of his neck and used him as a shield. "I'm borrowing your son for one second" Luffy said to Morgan raising two fingers in the air "Heavenly Illumination" the attack emitted a flash of light blinding everyone present.
Several seconds passed as the sight of the marines gradually came back. Looking around Morgan and the marines found both the Straw Hat man and Helmeppo gone
"Find them!" Morgan roared
"Captain Morgan look, down in the execution ground Roronoa Zoro is free and is with a pink haired civilian!" A random Marine shouted
"More traitors?! Deal with the pirate hunter first, the we find my bastard son"
In the Marine base
"Are you sure this is your room?" Luffy asked the now haggard looking Helmeppo
"Y-y-yeah" he barely managed to reply
"Good" Luffy said throwing him to the ground and walked over to three swords in the corner of the room. "All three seem to be here" Noticing that Morgan and his Marines were surrounding Zoro and Koby Luffy grabbed the swords and flashed away
Execution Grounds
"Sorry about the wait Zoro" Luffy said appearing beside Zoro handing him his swords
"Heh no problem Captain" Zoro smiled putting Wado Ichimonji in his mouth and wielding the other two in each hand.
"Men aim" Morgan commanded
"Zoro get Coby out of the line of fire" Luffy commanded at the marines cocked their rifles. Zoro used the blunt edge of his sword to move with Coby as shots rang out.
"Luffy-san!" Coby panicked seeing Luffy had not attempted to move out of the way of the bullets. Turning around both he and Zoro were stunned to see that bullets seemed to have passed right through him
"Sorry, that's not going to work on me" Luffy announced
"Captain! Bullets don't work on him" the marine soldiers panicked
"You fools if guns don't work use your swords" Morgan Commanded
Drawing their swords the marines charge towards Luffy intending to cut him down, a moment before slashing at him they found themselves completely stopped by three swords. "Sorry but the second you drew your swords I was forced to step in" Zoro said before with a twist he sent the group of marines flying across the grounds
"Captain they're too strong we can't do anything against them"
"Whoever just said that execute yourself now... that's an order!" Morgan bellowed
"E-nough" Luffy sped in front of Morgan delivering a vicious upper to his jaw nearly breaking it in the process.
"Ugghhh... You almost broke my jaw you scum" Morgan grunted on still attempting to pick himself up from the ground
"Ohh so you can take a half-hearted punch at the very least" Luffy mocked "But you look half dead already... can you remain conscious-" Luffy blitzed forward and delivered a roundhouse kick to Morgan's temple "-after a simple kick" Luffy concluded knocking Morgan out completely
"Don't move!" a shout came from Helmeppo who now had made his way to the grounds and was pointing a flintlock in Coby's direction "Anybody moves and I'll pull this trigger"
"Ohh" Luffy flashed in front of Hemleppo grabbing his free hand lifting him into the air pointing a finger at his abdomen "go ahead and pull it now, lets see which is faster, your finger or light
Panicking Helmeppo's finger tremble signaling Luffy fire a beam right through his abdomen nearly killing him and causing a massive explosion in the distance.
What a man I've decided to follow Zoro thought to himself looking at the unconscious and bleeding forms of the marine Captain and son. Absolutely no effort at all and they're permanently out of the fight. Yet he was merciful enough to not killed them. More importantly what's with that massive explosion he just set off
"They really beat him so easily!" "We're finally free!" "No more threats of death" the marines around shouted in joy
"Well Zoro time for us to go celebrate you joining the crew" Luffy turned to him with a smile
Ririka's Resturant
"Tahh I'm stuffed" Zoro exclaimed after having his fill of food and booze.
"I ate quite a bit too, though I didn't do much" Coby timidly said
"Shishishi what's the bill Ririka?" Luffy asked the little girl's mother having eaten another large helping of food
"Ah we couldn't charge you anything, this is thanks for freeing us from the hold of Morgan" she exclaimed
"I'll have none of it, we aren't taking charity, we have the money to pay" Luffy said seriously
"Well... since you insist" she replied giving the Straw-Hat teen the bill
"Hm, here" Luffy paid after a moment of taking stacks of beli out of his black backpack.
I'm not sure if he really is all that serious about being a pirate. Zoro thought watching the interaction Or maybe he is unlike the common pirate on the seas, I wonder if he'll change.
"Excuse me but is it true that you are pirates?" A marine asked who seemed to be leading the large group of marines behind him
Turning around Luffy observed them, their body language a bit tense and apprehensive. "Yeah I just recruited my first mate here Zoro" Luffy confirmed thumbing at Zoro next to him.
"Oi" Zoro commented surprised by his bold faced honestly given the possibility of what could happen
"My name is Lieutenant Ripper, while we are grateful for you getting rid of Morgan and his son for us, as marines we cannot allow you to leisurely remain on this island" Lieutenant Ripper informed them
"Now hold on marines, they are heroes" "they saved us when you all did nothing" "they should be allowed to stay here as long as they want" came the protests from onlookers.
"Let's go Zoro" Luffy said getting up prompting Zoro to follow after him
Luffy-san is this it? Coby hesitated as he saw Luffy and by extension Zoro leaving without so much as a word to him
"Hold on one second please" Lieutenant Ripper stopped them "isn't he with you as well?" he asked pointing to Coby
"Who the pink haired nuisance?" Luffy started "That little nuisance has been following me around shouting about capturing me and becoming a marine, as if a weakling like him could ever hope to" Luffy mocked "in fact the little bastard has been trying to land a hit on me since I took down this pirate he was after first, I think her name was Alvida or som-"
Luffy was cut off by Coby throwing a bar stool right through him "Don't speak another word!" Coby screamed emotionally
"Oh getting brave are we, you little shit" Luffy grabbed Coby by the collar and started slapping him
"That's enough, it clear to me that he is no comrade of yours, please leave before we are forced to take action!" Ripper yelled
"Mhm with pleasure" Luffy smirk leaving the restaurant
He- he did all that for me. Coby thought on the ground in tears, reminiscing on the short time he has known the light man.
By the Doc - Luffy's boat
"Are you sure that act was enough to sell your story. The information gathering ability of the marines is not to be underestimated" Zoro said as he took a comfortable seat in the small vessel while Luffy untied the rope keeping it docked.
"Hm, those marines owe us, that act will be enough for them to reasonably say they believed Coby was never a member of our group." Luffy responded taking a seat for himself on the opposite end.
"Luffy-san I will never forget what you have done for me!" Coby yeled from the shore
"You have a good friend there" "Men Salute!" Ripper commanded as all the marines saluted behind Coby "Men for saluting to pirates we must go without food for a week" Ripper announced followed by an affirmed shout from his men
"I've never seen marines salute to pirates before, how strange" Zoro commented
"Ah" Luffy said with a nonchalant wave to the shore
Now is my chance "Lieutenant Ripper I would like to enlist in the marine so that I may one day capture pirates and bring them to justice" Coby said saluting to the commanding officer determination shining in his eyes "I'll start from anywhere sir even scrubbing the toilets" Coby begged as Ripper stared into his eyes
"Very well prospective, if you pass the physical test we'll see if we can make a marine out of you yet." Ripper decided

Below are the Doriki Levels, as was established by Oda, Doriki is simply a measurement of one's physical ability (and rokushiki skill level, but lets ignore that aspect for now and use it to measure purely physical strength). These of course represent my best estimate for a characters physical strength from canon. The only people who will be significantly stronger than their canon counterparts are Luffy, Robin, Nami, Usopp, perhaps Brook (depending on IF bone can get physically stronger per Oda). Should any character's strength increase from canon I will identify it. For reference, remember among CP9 the levels were the following: Rob Lucci (base): 4000, Kaku (base): 2200, Jabra: 2180, Blueno: 820, Kumadori: 810, Fukuro: 800, Kalifa:630. Also a Doriki of 500 equates to official superman strength status meaning capability to use the six powers comfortably. Enjoy the story.

Will Luffy be paired with anyone? Sure, hint, hint, though it won't be Nami. Remember Luffy won't have any romantic feelings for Nami. Who is his endgame though? Not telling, could be any girl or any collection of girls.
