Uhura sat in the recreation deck, singing for a few people gathered around her. Someone had heard that she had sung for Captain Kirk, and that he had been impressed, and of course had joked about it and asked her to sing.

She had obliged, and people had gathered. She usually ended up singing a song or two whenever she came to the recreation deck. She enjoyed it, though she sang acapella, not wishing to risk offending Mr. Spock with her attempts at playing while she sang.

The door opened behind her. Uhura did not turn, but kept on singing. Only when she had finished did she look to see who now stood so quietly behind her.

It was Mr. Spock, a lyre in one hand. "May I join you?" He inquired.

She nodded nervously. Why was he here? He found a seat, and began to play. Uhura was shocked to realize she recognized the song. It was Vulcan.

When she did not start singing the first time through, he began again. Uhura found her voice this time, and joined him, this time in English. He played through another time, singing softly in Vulcan, and timidly she joined him.

She smiled brightly as she realized with whom she was singing, and nearly forgot to continue. That must have been what he had found so fascinating that first day. He remembered her.

They finished the song, and Uhura turned to look at him. He had grown, matured, but now she recognized the eyes: brown, alert, intelligent, and curious.

"Have you learned any earth songs?" She asked, teasing. His eyebrow went up, and he began to play a familiar tune, one that had been popular at the Academy.

She joined in, her voice clear and strong, and when that was done they went on to other popular songs of Terran origin, some slow and steady, others more upbeat, and some downright rowdy.

She laughed as they finished an older song, one she had been surprised to find he knew. "Play something from Vulcan." She asked as he waited for her request. "I haven't heard much since the contest. At least, not live."

He nodded in acknowledgment, his fingers strumming idly as he thought, thn began to play.
