It started with a kiss and ended in the local ER, Sam's life hanging in the balance.
As he sits waiting, pushed to one side, Dean wonders where it all went so wrong, where he misread the signs. What the hell was Sam thinking, throwing himself in front of Dean like that? Surely he knows by now that knives hurt.
And he knows it wasn't just a scratch, whatever his little brother said. He knows from the looks on the nurses faces as they walk past him.
Time moves on and there's still no news.
So Dean sits. And waits.
