Boy was he surprised when we walked in the door!
First, there was the classic double-take; then the jaw-drop. And finally, a broad smile—and it was at that moment, my walk turned into a run.
When I was close enough to touch, he wrapped both arms around me and swept me off my feet. I think a minute passed. Maybe two.
Macy reminded us of her presence with a polite cough.
"Hey Macy," Joe said, letting go of me and reaching out to give her a quick hug. "Why didn't you tell me you guys were coming?" he asked, facing me again.
Bursting with excitement, I laughed and said, "It was a surprise!" Joe shook his head and I gave him another, much shorter, hug.
"Let's go surprise Nick and Kevin," Joe said with a mischievous look.
