Chapter 2:

Separation Anxiety

"No way, aru! I'm NOT leaving this hospital without my baby!"

China was fuming like, well, a mother bear separated from her cub, or at least about to be. San Marino had just informed them that while China was ready to go home after spending three day in the hospital, Lin would have to spend some extra time in there until she gained weight.

"You said she was healthy when she was born, aru! Why does she have to stay in the hospital? It's not fair, aru!"

"Yao-Yao, take it easy, da?" Russia tried to ease his distraught husband, but to little avail.

"But what if something happens and she needs us?"

"It will be okay, Yao-Yao. If Lin needs us, San Marino will call, da?" He looked at the small woman, almost menacingly.

"Of course I will call. But China, it's going to be okay. I know leaving your baby is hard, but she needs to gain more weight. She's in good hands, I promise."

A nurse brought the tiny baby in so that her parents could see her one more time before they left. China took the little girl in his arms. "I promise I'll be here every day, aru. Every day, until you're big and strong enough to come home with us, aru."

China handed Lin to her father. Her face scrunched up and turned red like she was going to cry, which prompted Russia to slowly start rocking her. "Bayu-bayushki-bayu, ne lozhisya na krayu…" He sang to her as she fell asleep in his arms. San Marino gently took the baby back from Russia, he and China whispering their good-byes as they left the room.

As soon as they got on the elevator, China started tearing up. "Aiyah…I'm emotional like a woman, aru…"

Russia simply held him close. "She'll be okay, da."

A/N: Awww, sad chapter.
