The Horse
A thick jet of pink light flashed across the yard, and Jessica opened her eyes, she saw a beautiful chestnut horse, gleaming proudly right in the middle of the grass. It tossed its head and neighed. Jessica was so excited, she couldn't catch her breath. She stumbled backwards, shakily climbed the stairs to the deck, and vanished into the house. She had to show her sisters this!
While passing through the sunny kitchen, she left the wand on the counter top. It was more important that her sisters see the horse. Julia, the oldest of the three girls, emerged from the garage, where she had been putting away her bicycle. All that exercise had worked up her appetite, but even though she was terribly hungry, she couldn't quite find what she was looking for in the kitchen pantry. That's when she saw the wand.
Julia was very smart, and even though she knew the wand was just a toy, she swished it though the air and said, "I sure would love to have a lot of sweet things to eat!"
Suddenly, she was standing knee-deep in every different kind of candy in the world, and right in front of her was a sprinkled donut and, even better, a huge ice cream Sunday dripping with hot fudge, and topped with fluffy whipped cream and a cherry. She was too stunned to eat. Had the wand really worked?
