The next night, Elena showed Stefan out the door for what seemed would be the last time. "Elena, it doesn't have to be this way." Stefan pleaded, stopping before he stepped off the porch.
"Yes, it does." Elena bit back tears. "Thing's have changed." She didn't allow Stefan to reply before she slammed the front door shut. She sank down to the floor where she leaned her head back and opened her mouth to silently scream. Tears rushed down her face with no hope of stopping. She gripped her hair in her hands and clenched her fists, so it was a gentle tug. "No, oh god, no." She whispered through her tears.
Outside on the steps, Stefan stood facing the street. He didn't know what to do now. The girl he was in love with was on the other side of the door, crying by herself.
