7. MPOV
"So since your birthday's in a month-ish, what exactly do you want?" Dylan asked me. We were at his house in his room because… in all honesty, there was no real reason for me to be over except for the fact that Dylan wanted to see me… as usual. I was trying to avoid him and kept putting off visits with somewhat lame but usually true excuses. After successfully not seeing him for a full week and a half, my mom pretty much forced me to go over because Dylan had called and begged me to come over apparently. So here I was.
"Uh, I really don't need anything in all honesty. I have everything I need." I told him.
"Seriously, princess, what do you want?"
"Uh…how about a fair life or something? I dunno."
He laughed at me. "Ok then. I have a back up plan."
I rose an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Just in case I got this answer." He replied smiling. "I feel like I'm getting to know you better."
"Yea." I said. In my personal opinion, he didn't know much about me at all. He knew my… somewhat calmer side. It was odd being around him. I really needed to stop thinking like this.
"What time is it?" I asked him.
"4:34." He answered. "Why?"
"I wanted to stop by some shops in town before I got home, and dinner's in an hour."
"Oh." He said, sounding a bit hurt. "You just got here like an hour ago, and I thought you might be able to stay for dinner here."
"Sorry. Really. But I'll see you… soon, I'm guessing." I said, smiling sympathetically at him.
"True. I guess I'll see you soon. I love you." He said, kind of sighing.
"Bye." I replied.
On the way to the first store, I heard a vaguely familiar voice yelling, "Max, Max!"
I looked over to see one of the girls that I had run into when I ran into Fang… Nudge, I think she called herself. She and the blonde, Angel, ran toward me, so I decided to wait to say hi to them at least.
"Max! You remember me and Angel, right? I'm Nudge, if you don't. You ran into our brother a while ago. We were playing a game of volleyball just now. Ya wanna join us? I mean, it's fine if you don't, but it would be really fun if you did. And we're uneven and you would make it even." That girl talked more than anyone I had ever met.
I was honestly about to refuse, but I made the mistake of looking at them. Bambi eyes, curse them!
"Sure, girls. That would be fun." I replied, forcing a smile.
I walked over to the court, which was one of the ones with sand. I saw that Nudge was right—it had been 2 girls against 3 guys, but I did even it out perfectly. I recognized Fang, but not the other 2 boys.
"That's the Gasman—don't ask, you'd be unfortunate to find out—but we call him Gazzy for short." Nudge said pointing to the small blonde that looked a lot like Angel. "And that's Iggy." She said pointing to the tall strawberry blonde. "And of course you know Fang." Gazzy and Iggy both waved to me, and Fang glared at me. I smiled and waved back, and glared back at Fang.
"Let's discuss strategy for a second." I said turning toward the girls. "We got anything?"
"Well, we were losing. The guys always spike the ball." Angel replied.
I nodded. "That's not surprising. I say we start over with the whole winning and losing thing, now that I'm here."
Nudge nodded. "Seems fair. I'll go tell the guys."
"Wow. That was only like 6 words." I said to Angel when Nudge had gone over to tell the boys.
"Yea. Its rare. Enjoy it." She smiled. She really did look like an angel. But I could tell that there were layers to this girl, and not all of them were exactly angelic.
We looked over to see Nudge arguing with the guys, so I decided to go over and settle it.
"Okay guys." I said as soon as I went under the net. "We're restarting the score to zero now that I'm here. That shouldn't cause any problems, should it?"
"But it's really not fair." Iggy complained.
"Life's not fair. Or we could just not keep score. That would probably be more fun."
"Fine. We'll start it over, okay you spoiled brat?" Fang snapped at me.
I looked up at him. "Excuse me." Was all I said, and I walked over to our side and grabbed the ball off the ground.
"I'm serving first." I said aloud…just so everyone knew. Fang rolled his eyes at me. I was so sick of him right now, I wanted to just go over and kick him where the sun don't shine. Instead, I glared at him and spiked the ball as hard as I could (which is pretty dang hard) right at his face. He bumped it back. Nudge got it, but it didn't go over the net, so the boys got a point.
We played for about half and hour, and the boys won by cheating. When we couldn't remember the score, they would add like 5 points to theirs. But I believe that in reality, the girls won. And even though we had officially "lost", we still had fun. They asked me to stay after the game and try Iggy's and Dr. Martinez's (their mom's) cooking, but I had to get home.
"Come back soon, Max, please?" Angel begged, grabbing my wrist.
I laughed lightly. "Of course, Ange."
"Okay." Angel said, smiling and satisfied. She hugged me tightly around my waist, so I hugged her back. The phrase "she's never met a stranger" crossed my mind when I thought of her. And Nudge. She was so sweet.
"Bye, everyone!" I said, waving to them.
I got a chorus of byes as I started walking home.
Like it? Hate it? Let me know! Review! (That sounds like a commercial lol)
