Pallet Town – 1:35PM
Sue and Red arrived in Pallet Town around the same time that it's mostly empty. Around noon, everybody is out. Gary/Blue is at his gym, his sister Daisy is out God knows where at work and Amy/Yellow is probably in Viridian Forrest. Prof. Oak is the only one in town with a one or two assistants is his Lab. Sue and Red figured it would be best to just stay home. Red immediately went to his room and set his bag on what used to be his study desk.
He looked around at the old video game console, controllers, the old television and computer. Almost everything on his desk was covered with years of dust. Red's bed was still made perfect and clean the way his mum used like because he would never do it. His bookshelf was filled with cartridges for his classic video game console and also has bunch of photos in frames of his when he was a boy.
Some showed him and his mother and others showed his with friends such as Amy, Gary and of course Sue. Most of them were taken during the time when he was around five or six. There was also an old picture of teenage Mum and Dad. Melissa would always comment on how Red always looked like his father, even at a young age. If only Dad didn't die so early, so Red would have had at least a memory.
"You okay?" Sue asked in a whisper peaking from the door way of the room.
"Yeah," Red answered. "Just looking that all,"
"I looked after your house and kept most of it clean," Sue said. "I left your room though because everything was neat anyway,"
"You live here?
Sue nodded. "Since your Mum isn't here, someone needed to take care of the house, or else it would have been demolished,"
"Thanks," Red said with that cocky grin which brings back some old memories. Sue only smiled and chuckled. "So you took my Mum's room?" he asked while walking past her and into the hallway.
"Yep,"
"How's everybody else?"
"They're good, I bet they'd be happy to see you,"
Since it was noon and everybody were still out Red and Sue decided go out. Red himself has struck a bit of luck because right now was the large holiday season. During this time it's been calculated that seventy-five percent of Kanto is empty and out over Johto, Hoenn or Sinnoh. This is due to Kanto being a not-so-interesting place to go to even though it's considered to be the heart of all things Pokemon. Now that there's barely anybody here Red and go around while having everyone else giving him odd stares and creating a situation for his return.
Sue took this as a date with her good friend even though that would be something he wouldn't consider but they both enjoyed it nevertheless, trekking through places that brought back good old memories from their journey together. They walked into Viridian City and checked out the Pokemon Academy, Trainer House and even said 'hi' to the clerk at the Poke Mart. Even now it's still the same guy that gave Red the parcel to deliver to Prof. Oak. The bloke turned out to be very happy to see him again and even went on talking about how much he's grown and how far he's gone.
He may not be much of a socialite but Red really enjoyed the talk with the clerk and was happy to finally meet someone nice. The walk through Route 2 was very uneventful except for the bug catchers who were shocked to see the former Pokemon Master. After that they went off into Viridian Forest to find Amy. Red never really like the forest that much because back in the day he along with Sue and Gary had a lot of trouble navigating and finding their way through. They had to rely on the bug catchers who know the every bit of the forest from corner to corner.
It was then they first met Amy who introduced herself back than as Amarillo del Bosque Verde. She was only seven years old back then and was incredibly naïve. Now she gained so much knowledge and experience with her time with the other and now is probably Sue's best friend. Amy pretty much spends most her time in Viridian Forest while everybody else is at work and comes back to a proper home with her boyfriend Gary. Sue often visits Amy whenever she catches a break from her job as Pewter's Gym Leader. Brock gave it to Sue so he can pursue his brand new career of being a Pokemon breeder.
After a while though Amy has been acting a little odd which has caused a considerable amount of concern from her friend. Her Psychic abilities have been predicting a possible event and has been warning Sue about it. She continues to mention it all time. Soon though Sue stopped visiting which was a plan that back fired and caused a bit of an argument between the two. However, now that Red has come back Sue thought of it as a good idea to see her anyway.
They were deep into the forest and continuing on even further. Sue is now the person leading the way since she takes the same route every day to visit her. Sue then stopped and looked a little confused. "She's usually here," she said.
"Are you sure you know where you're going?" Red asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure, she's always here with Chu Chu,"
"Let's split up," Red suggested. "That way we'll find her twice as fast," Red's logic seemed to puzzle her but went with it since he's spent three years in a cave with god-knows how many times more dead ends and routes. Sue went off one direction and Red went off in the opposite. They spent about fifteen minutes looking and searching and the by twenty the two were very far apart. Red found himself covered by the shadows of many trees. His battle instincts kicked in when he heard the ruffling of branches above him. He instantly sent out his Pikachu who weirdly didn't understand the situation that they were in.
"What is it?" Red asked.
"I smell something familiar,"
"Pokemon or person?" Red said darting more questions and retrieving useful information.
"Both," Pikachu answered.
Red turned around as soon as and young, petite, golden haired girl came swinging upside down on a tree branches from the back of her legs. "Edward Craig," she greeted with her sweetest while dropping onto her feet. "I knew you'd come back, I've been anticipating,"
"It's nice to see you too," Red said with an uncharacteristic yet genuine smile.
Yellow chuckled and hugged Red burying her face into his chest. Even though it's been three years she still hasn't seemed to have grown too much and struggles to even reach his shoulder height. Red hugged back trying his hardest to get used to human contact. "I actually missed you," she said pulling away from her hug.
"Really?" Red asked.
"Of course, back then I never imagined a good friend ever leaving me,"
"You were probably still new to the making-friends-thing back then,"
"I guess so," Then Amy caught sight of Pikachu standing at Red's feet. "Hey you," she said in her sweet voice and kneeling down. She picked up Pikachu by his arm pits. "You know, there's somebody here that really missed you when you were gone,"
"Who was it?" Pikachu said telepathically.
Then female Pikachu with a pink follow on its head came swinging down from a tree branch and swiftly landed on Amy's shoulder. She greeted her male counterpart in their language. "Hey! Long time now see!" she said cheerfully.
"Chu Chu!" Pikachu greeted back while raising his hands up.
"Why don't you guys go off and find Sue for us," Amy suggested. Pikachu looked back at Red. His master gave him a confirmed nod. So the two Pikachus agreed with a joyful "PIKA!" and ran off further into the forest.
As soon as they were gone Amy looked back at Red. "So how was it up there?" she asked him getting back into a usual conversation.
"Cold," he said simply.
Amy laughed at his comment while swinging her long, emo-like fringe with a flick of her head. "Man of a few words," she said smiling. The two decided to walk towards the North entrance of the forest while talking about how they've been going and what has happened these past three years. Red mostly talked about the sort of Pokemon that live up there and the training routines that take place. Amy spoke about the basic things such as her personal Pokemon and her relationship with Gary. She also mentioned about the absolute tension between herself and Sue.
They waited for thirty minutes at the north entrance for the two Pikachus to find and bring Sue back. As soon as they caught sight of each other Red could already see the discomfort in their eyes. Sue quickly of something to say. "You guys along well?"
"Yeah," Amy answered feeling a little awkward. "Shouldn't you...be at work right now?" she asked scratching her head without making any eye contact. Then Sue walked off and out of the forest to Pewter City after only giving Red a goodbye. "'l see you later, okay?"
"Sure," he responded.
When Sue was out of ear shot Amy sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Can't believe her ignorance,"
"Don't be too hard on her," Red said while his Pikachu ran up his arm and rested onto his shoulder. "I'll admit, she may not be the smartest girl in the world or whatever, but all she wants is you and her to get along, be friends and whatnot,"
"But this is serious Red, and she's not listening to me,"
"Well maybe she thinks you're a little crazy," Red said now trying to lighten the mood with a small joke.
Amy's expression changed into what seemed to be shock, anger and sadness all rolled into one. She took her gaze off Red and spoke. "I hate that word,"
"Crazy?"
She nodded. "I'm not crazy, just different from everybody else. More like a curse,"
"It's not a curse, I reckon it's more like a gift,"
"A terrible privilege," she said crossing her arms.
"I'll deal with her," Red finally said. "Don't worry about it," He put a reassuring hand on her slender shoulder. She shrugged it off and hugged him instead.
"Come on Red!" Pikachu said causing the two to flinch and pull away from each other. "I wanna go see some things now,"
"He's right," Amy said. "Come on, I'll show you around," she grabbed onto one of Red's wrists with both her soft, tiny hands and pulled him. "We don't have all day you know," she said.
"Okay then," Red said giving into her pulling. "Just try not rip my skin off,"
The former Pokemon Master ran with Amy while she took him to wherever she wished to take him and show Red the world of Kanto.
