Chapter 22: Farewell, My Brother

"What the hell is she doing here!" Destiny shouted as she took out her wand in a hurry. The others did the same and prepared for another battle. Seth however was still tired from the encounter with Malistare.

"Relax, I'm not going to kill you guys. I've simply come for you." She pointed at Seth. "You are the reason as to why I'm here. Why I'm alive actually, why Malistare has taken care of me. It all lead up to this moment." She held the heavy looking double edged emerald sword in one hand as if it were nothing. "Too bad you might not be around for the new world order Seth. It's going to be chaotic; insanity will run through the air. Madness will plague everyone's mind and order will be destroyed." She said as she looked to the sky above her. "But," she continued as she looked back down at the wizards. "That can only happen if one were to ignite the spark of chaos; and that person, is me!" She says as an evil grin forms on her face and within a second she was behind all of them. She looked back at them who did the same with her but something happened. Seth fell to his knees while trying to control his breathing. It was out of his control and he had gotten down on all fours. He still couldn't breathe properly and he threw up as well.

"Seth!" Gabriel cried as he ran towards his friend but was cut off by the Incinerator who only wagged her finger as she said 'tsk tsk tsk' and blasted him back with her index finger. Seth managed to look back just in time to see Gabriel get pushed back and this angered him. He closed his eyes, clenched his fists and tried talking to the demon.

"I need your power!" he yelled as he nearly got his breathing under control. He heard a response back from within. 'Hehe, I knew you would come around.' It said as dark energy started to resonate from Seth. Something strange happened as he received the power. In a moment, he flashed a different color. His hair had flashed white and his eyes blinked red. His teeth had turned a bit sharper as his clothes had flashed black. He kept flashing between his original color and this new darker looking color until he looked up at the Incinerator. She only smiled and once again struck Seth. It took his breath away again and he was on his knees again. "Come on demon! Is that all you've got?!" He shouted as he slowly got back up. The Incinerator's smile had turned into a serious frown. She struck him for the third time and he was on all four's again. 'I'm going to give full power!' he heard as his power drastically increased. This time the colors not only flashed, they stayed that way. It was still Seth's voice and mind, it's just his body that was now transformed into the image of the demon. Though his voice might not be there much longer. As he roared his voice had slowly become like that of the demons, a deep voice with a demonic rasp.

"Enough of this! The Sword of Souls should have done its job already! Now split already!" She swung for the fourth time at him and this time, he couldn't gain anymore power. The ground shook as Seth had continuously flashed colors and a blinding light had gleamed from Seth. He roared as it glowed brighter and brighter. Everyone shielded their eyes from the light, everyone but the Incinerator. As the light seemed to reach the peak of its brightness, a demonic laughter was heard by everyone.

After the brightness had slowly dimmed down, Seth was still on all fours but was back to normal colors. In front of them was a dark version of what looked like Seth with black and purple electricity traveling around his body. He took a deep breath and shouted with all his might "I HAVE BEEN REBORN!" His voice was deep and powerful with a bit of Seth's voice mixed in with the demon voice. He started laughing as the others were stunned to see the demon wizard, free from his prison and on the outside world. He smiled as he breathed heavily and looked into the sky. He then looked back down and looked at the environment around him. Then he looked at Seth and the others. "Now then, who's the one who set me free?" He asked with a toothy grin.

"That would be me." The Incinerator rudely interrupting the conversation said. He looked at her with his piercing eyes at her, his face still smiling. "Come with me demon wizard, let's talk business somewhere more private." She said with a death stare. She was trying to gain control of the situation by looking intimidating. He was completely unfazed by her but agreed to take this conversation somewhere else.

"Hold it demon! You may be reborn but we aren't letting you go without a fight!" Jack said getting ready for a fight. The five of them drew their wands while Seth had just gotten back up. Deth's grin had only grown wider at the mention of the word fight but he was stopped by the Incinerator.

"Afraid I don't have time to deal with you this time, a pity. I would have loved to watch you die with my own eyes but I guess knowing that your dead is good to." Without a seconds delay, she raised her arm up and a blue glowing vortex was created. Deth only looked at it, not even amused by such a technique. "Let's see how long you last without any mana!" The vortex had started to suck in the blue glow around the entire area of the wizards but Seth was forgotten and wasn't targeted. The others felt as they got weaker while Seth himself was trying to hide as much power as he could in hopes of ambushing her and Deth. "Now then, I'll leave me pet to finish you." She snapped her fingers and a boar that had bushido armor on. It held a cobalt colored naginata with something inscribed on it. 'VDB' it read. "Take care of these fools would you?" She flicked her wrist at the now powerless wizards and in a deep voice without moving its mouth responded 'Yes master'. The Incinerator and Deth teleported away after that, leaving this giant enemy to replace them.

Connor was called into Ambrose's office for an urgent report on the new wizard team. He arrived as soon as he could only to have Ambrose tell him what happened. "I'm sorry Connor but my powers grow weaker by the days now. I'm not going to be able to take them on, I'm too old. You have to get there as soon as possible! You have to save them Connor!" Ambrose begged. Connor nodded and he teleported in front of Bartleby and ran as fast as he could to where they were. As he ran he was thinking 'Don't worry Ambrose, I'm not going to let anything happen as long as I can still fight!' after that thought he started to sprint a bit faster.

"Take your last breath's young warriors. As you look at the reaper in the face, tell me what you see." No one responded to the giant boar's question. "Very well then, you will all die without saying your last words." At an incredible speed it ran at the group of wizards with its blade ready to stab. Seth saw this and he thought as quickly as possible. He saw his hands on the naginata and how firm they were on its grasp; he knew there was no way of knocking the weapon out of his hand. His team was too spread out so if he moved the direction of the blade either way it would affect any of them. If he struck the blade from the top and make it hit the bottom it would only go to the boar's advantage in effecting everyone. Hitting the blade from the bottom up would only severe whatever he attacked it with in half. He was running out of options and time. As the weapon got closer Seth took drastic actions. The blade was going straight for Sabrina and when it felt like it was too late to do anything she closed her eyes and waited for the worst. She heard the sound of a blade cutting through flesh and blood spit as it penetrated. But she didn't feel any pain. She felt what she thought was blood but when she opened her eyes, time seemed to slow down as she saw what had happened. Seth had threw himself in front of his team without second thought and he tried to stop the weapon by clamping his hands together, locking his fingers together. Before Seth could change positions the boar had readjusted the weapon to strike not the center of his chest where he could recover from it, but had aimed at his heart. Connor had just arrived and reached for the weapon that was so close to Seth. They were both a second off. The blade of the naginata had gone completely through Seth but he was still standing. He coughed blood as the others looked at him in shock, not believing what had just happened, but Seth started to smile and then giggle as the blood started to leave his body from his mouth and his chest. He looked up at the boar warrior that was frowning at him.

"I told this team …" He started "That I will protect them..!" He tried to shout at the boar but his voice was gone. The unamused boar had roughly removed the naginata from Seth's body and stood there to let him suffer. Connor and the others came immediately to try and help Seth but there weren't a lot of things that they could do. Connor reached for his potions, only to discover them gone. When he looked at the boar he saw that he had drank each one of them down, leaving nothing but the bottle. Connor remembered that there was one way that help Seth. He pulled a card out from his sleeve and began building up mana.

"Jack." Connor called. As Jack responded, Connor continued. "I need you to use this card. Take some of my mana and cast it on Seth." Jack asked no questions and ran to Seth who was trying to breathe but couldn't do so properly. The boar looked at the scene and decided to interrupt, when he was cut off by Connor! "I won't let you near them you bastard!" They fought with intense power as the others were with Jack doing anything they could to help Seth.

"Ok, we only have one shot at this. Regenerate!" Jack yelled as he placed down the card. The boar's ears picked up what he had just said and within a second he was next to them, destroying the card. Connor looked back only to see their only chance at reviving Seth crumble. Now … now it was truly over. "No! I'm not going to let you die Seth!" He put his hand on Seth's would and heated it up at an incredible temperature to stop the bleeding. He then picked up Seth's head and let it rest on his hand. "There, don't worry Seth! We'll have you healed as soon as possible!" Jack says in an attempt to reassure his friend. Seth already knew what was coming. He was going to die. He had lost too much blood already, there won't be enough to keep him alive. (*)

"Sorry … Jack." Seth started. "I'm not going to be around anymore. I … won't be able to … survive for more than a few minutes."

"Don't you dare say that Seth!" Jack yelled as tears started to form in his eyes. "We're going to get you back to the city to heal you! I promise!" Jack's voice broke a bit as he yelled at Seth.

"Jack. I'm not going back. I'm sorry my friend … we shared many adventures with each other, but, this is where my life will end. You were my closest … friend Jack. You were like family to me."

"You're like family to me too." Jack hugged Seth tight. Tears were now streaming from Jack's eyes, gritting his teeth knowing he could do nothing for him. The rest of the team started to sniffle and cry as well. Seth spoke again.

"I take it back … you are my family, you were my brother. As family, we have to … trust each other. I trust you … to take care of this team." He smiled as Jack stopped hugging and looked at him in the eyes, holding his hand as he lay on the soft, now crimson colored, sand.

"I can't do it Seth. I need you. We need you. Please, please just hold on a little longer Seth. I'm begging you!" Jack said with tears falling from his face as he looked at Seth. A few tears had landed on Seth's smiling face as he continued.

"You can do it Jack. I know you. Please … please promise me you'll protect them."

"I will Seth … I swear to you that I will!" Seth looked directly up at the sky now instead of Jack. He spoke with his dying breath.

"Thank you Jack." Seth said as he closed his eyes. "Thank you all, for being by my side." They all clenched their fists, gritted their teeth, watched and listened as Seth's final moments were unfolding in front of them. Seth opened his eyes and turned his head to his friends to take a look at them, one last time. "Goodbye my friends," He closed his eyes for the last time and whispered loud enough for Jack to hear "Farewell, my brother." The hand that Jack held had suddenly lost its grip. Seth's breathing had faded into nothingness and his heart was slowly stopping. This is what both Gabriel and Jack had feared most; the loss of their friend. Jack, crying over Seth's now lifeless body, had screamed in the air to let out his fury. In a way to try and get out his frustration, he had punched the ground next to him creating a huge hole. Jack had an idea and picked up Seth and gently put him into the hole. He had made sure he was in a dignified pose and took one last look at him before he started to cover the hole up with sand, starting from feet first. Once he had covered his body in sand he took one last look at his face. He began to cry again and looked at him one last time, before he put the sand on his head. He stood up, looming over the newly dug grave for Seth and let out the rest of his tears. Connor had tried to bottle up his emotions but he let one tear slip.

"This is what we pay for in order to live: death. You better get used to it child because many of your allies will fall in the line of duty." The boar said, trying to act as noble as possible.

"You…" Jack started. "You… this is your entire fault!" Jack started yelling at the boar. "If it wasn't for you, my best friend would still be alive!"

"You blame others for your own mistake, how cliché." The boar once again trying to act noble said. Jack stared at him with a death stare. His entire body began heating up to intense temperatures! As he started to walk forward, he left glass foot prints and for the first time in a long time Gabriel saw something in Jack's eye that he hadn't seen in a long time: rage. Rage was giving Jack this power. Rage was helping Jack avenging Seth. As he walked to the boar, it only smirked at Jack and began speaking again. "Do you really think you can beat me? Unless you want to end up like your friend over there I highly discourage it." Jack's body at this point felt like the heat you would feel from lava! He kept walking to the boar who only mocked Jack. "Very well then, it's your funeral." The boar said as he sprinted as fast as possible like he did earlier. He made sure his blade was also set on Jack's heart and in a blink of an eye, Jack caught the naginata. The surprised boar looked up at Jack and then tried to remove it from Jack's grip, no use. Jack gripped it tighter with his body still at this insane temperature. The weapon had started to melt in his hand. The boar had desperately tried to remove it but to no avail. He jumped back after his entire weapon had melted in the hands of Jack. He tried to use an ice spell at a distance to try and counter Jack. He summoned a giant colossus made entirely of ice. Jack looked up at it and before it could strike, Jack took a deep breath and started to breathe fire on it like a flamethrower! It melted the entire top half of the warrior and he continued walking forwards to the boar.

"Who are you! What the hell are you!" the boar screamed as he backed slowly away from Jack.

"I am Jack DarkRiver. And I am going to kill you!"

"Wait a moment, a DarkRiver? Please wait! I'm sorry! I truly am!"

"Too late for apologies." Jack said with an absence of mercy in his eyes. Jack was able to move so quickly that not even this boar with terrifying power was able to see! His hands were flat on his armor, ready to attack. "Fire Blossom" a huge burst of fire went through the warrior's stomach and out his back, forming a beautiful orange-red fire blossom. "Bloom." The fire blossom that came out of his back had separated its pedals attacked in the same spot they had originally come out of. The result was devastating as a fire explosion had taken place where the boar warrior had once stood. Jack turned around to everyone. "Let's just go home." He said as Connor had began walking back slowly. They all gave their respects to Seth one final time, and left.
