Chapter 3: Reason unexplained
The last I needed was someone being shot down dead in front of me so I pointed my gun at the woman who did. Jacob looked shocked as hell I knew from his face that he knew the woman "who is she?" I asked my gun stilled raised at her head.
"Miranda Lawson the woman in charge of the Larzarus Project in charge of bringing you back from the dead." was his answer and rightly so, however, that didn't lower my gun from her face.
"I guess I can understand the mistrust, but I just saved both of you he was the one that turned Traitor" she announced I hated the way she was talking it wanted me to punch her lights out or worse. Jacob said a few things, but I wasn't really paying much attention my mind went elsewhere.
I was thinking of Garrus of my sister and cousin and the rest of them and what they were doing now it bugged me that I'm not with them now doing whatever it was we were doing most of all I missing Garrus the most I wonder what he's doing if he went back to work for c-sec at the citadel. I was pulled out of my thoughts by Miranda "we should go before more mechs surround us."
All I could was nod my head I wasn't going to argue at least not right now. We got onto the shuttle as soon as I sat down and we left that station Miranda questioned me about past events and of course I had gotten annoyed by it all and sighed "look I know you want to question me to see if my memories are all there and they are I made some bad calls in my life and some tough ones and there was nothing I could do to change that now can we get on with the real problem at hand?" I said looking at both of them.
They nodded their heads in understanding and the rest of the ride was quiet to the main station. We got off the shuttle and into the main waiting room area I walked over to Jacob and talked with him awhile. "Can I help you Commander?" Jacob asked turning his attention to her.
"Just wanted to ask some question about you and your position in Cerberus." I asked being straight forward with my intentions.
Jacob explained that even though he didn't agree with some of the things Cerberus has done he believed that they thought of humanity more so then the alliance. I didn't know what to believe on that explanation, but I took it all the same. I turned to look at Miranda and I realized their boss was waiting for me I sighed working with Terrorist was not my cup of tea.
I headed for the door that would lead me to meet the leader of Cerberus hopefully he would give me some answers. I got to the room and stood in the hologram communication hub and that was when I saw him I crossed my arms. " I thought it would be face to face." I said not liking it one bit.
The Illiusive man stated that even he had precautions or so I thought " The safety of Huminity needs your help once more I need you to investigate a disappearance of a human colony named Freedom progress " The Illusive man said
"You need to alert the alliance" I said keeping my arms crossed the illusive man said otherwise and I lowered my gaze at him and told him that I would need an army or really good team to even consider helping him.
"Go to Freedom progress and we can talk later" he replied and that was the end of the conversation. I turned on my heel and left the room slightly annoyed how was I suppose to trust these two, they worked for Cerberus, but if they were doing something about the missing colonists I wasn't going to sit by and let it happen.
Kelina looked around the big memorial room from her seat she was seated between her mom Rear-Admiral Hannah Shepard and her father Captain Richard Shepard of SSV Tulak. Kel watched her father face it wasn't much a surprise his face was rigid as he listened to Admiral Hackett speak. She turned to look at her mother whose was composed, but she could tell she wanted to cry her hands shaking as she tried not to crumble the paper that was in her hand.
Kelina reached over and grabbed her mother hand and gave it a light squeeze Hannah looked to her and smiled weakly her eyes glistening with tears. Kel knew it wasn't easy burying a child especially one that had done so much in such a short time. "Now there is a few people here today who wished to speak about their time with the Commander and her mother would like to hear them." Hackett had said and stepped down to take his seat next to Hannah.
Hannah stood up took in a shaky breath and walked upon the podium to speak, "My Daughter Melody was a spirited young lady. I never knew her to back away from anything even when she was a child. She wasn't just a Commander of the Alliance she was a Daughter, a big sister, a friend to many, but mostly she had always had an open ear for people who needed someone to talk to. " Hannah looked down a minute to choke back her sobs, but when she looked back up to address more of her speech tears were falling down her cheeks. " She had a fantasy, a dream, a goal to reach, and I think no...I know she reached it. She wanted to be an alliance soldier just like me she had told me one day when I was putting her bed her green eyes staring straight into mine. She wanted to do great things to save the people who couldn't save themselves and I believed that she did.
She had many admirers growing up, but she didn't give them any mind she was focused, determined, courageous, loyal to those around her, she was protective towards her sister who she had seen her best friend in the world. I saw her grow up to be woman I knew she could be a soldier that not only did her job, but took care of her friends while doing it. I saw her get beaten down by the choices of being soldier did to her and even through that she didn't waver she still stood tall and faced her foe head on. I don't think she would want us to grieve her forever, but for us to remember her life to remember the good times that spent and I for one am going to do just that. Thank you." Hannah finished and she sat down in her chair.
It went along to Richard he had gone up there and had been brief Kelina rolled her eyes even though mom and dad had been divorced for a while now Kelina still didn't know why Dad stuck around he never really cared about them. She turned her head to look behind her to see Kaidan he waved silently towards her and looked down mourning silently over the loss. She heard someone sit down and she looked that way to find her Dad had finished his speech. " Nice one Dad It could have been better considering everything she sacrificed so you could live!" she seethed under her breath at him. She wondered if his Job being a Captain was more important then his children.
"Silence!" he muttered and that rose her temper quickly.
"Or what have me thrown into the brig for speaking freely?" she said Richard looked at his youngest daughter Kelina had looked up to me a great deal and my influence guided her to speak her mind openly to anyone. Hannah looked that way and gave Richard a glare that spoke volume.
"That was hardly a loving speech to your oldest child; Melody would've given you one out of the condolences of you being her father!" Hannah had remarked quietly Richard didn't say anything Hannah knew he was saving this argument for another time and Hannah couldn't wait to put him in his place. The services ended and everyone was gathering around and Kelina found Garrus among the crowd of humans that was there.
"Garrus!" Kel said happily giving the Turian a much needed hug Garrus hugged her back.
"I missed the service didn't I?" he said his eyes downcast and looking anywhere, but her face and she knew that if he did; he'd be seeing the same green eyes he was used to seeing in the Commander.
"You did, but I'm glad you're here" Kel said with a small smile
"I'm not staying long I've only come to visit I got a shuttle her from Omega and I can't leave my squad alone for much longer I was here going to say my condolences to you and your mom if I can." he said
"Mom is not here right she in a different room in an argument with my Father" Kel replied rather coldly Garrus looked to Kel with a bewilder look and then laughed slightly.
"Let me guess you don't exactly see eye to eye with your father like I do" he said
"I get along with him alright it was Melody that never got along with him and the two of them always ended fighting" Kelina said remembering the day that their father and struck me for standing up for a soldier that had done nothing wrong. Garrus looked to Kelina with curious eyes and then he got the picture and Kel saw his mandibles twitch angrily.
"What room did they disappear to?" he asked his voice low Kel pointed to room off on the right and Garrus went into that direction Kel followed silently. She knew what Garrus was going to do and she wasn't about to stop it, but she would if it went too far.
