Petunia Evans stood over her sister's bed once again, it was August 31st and tomorrow her sister, Lily Evans would return to Hogwarts with the strange boy down the street, Severus Snape. They would return to the world that Petunia would never be apart of, even if she tried.

All summer long Petunia listened to her sister tell awesome stories of a castle and magic. The things that Petunia had thought only existed in fairytales. Lily had told stories of her dorm mates and of Severus, how they pulled her sister in two. Lily had also told stories of four boys, troublemakers. Absolute horrors that terrorized the school and the small rule abiding red head. A small smile graced Petunia's pinched face as she thought of her sister's agitation of James Potter. Just the boy's name made her sister roll her eyes.

Petunia pulled herself back. You can't do this. She left you! She thought her eyes becoming cold. She left you to deal with home, with mom and dad's fights. She doesn't care about you anymore. Petunia straightened her posture from leaning over the red headed girl. The Freak doesn't need you, and you don't need her. Petunia remembered the voices from her peers at school. They were all so happy that The Freak had been accepted to a private school and she was scorned because obviously she wasn't good enough for them. Even Gramps and Nana like her better. They always ask for her and what do I get? 'Oh that's good dear you know you should look up to your sister.' She's my younger sister! I'm the eldest, I should be the one she looks up to. Petunia turned from Lily's bed unable to look at her. She had barely looked at her all summer.

'Petunia I missed you all summer, you'll never believe the things we did.' Petunia slipped back into her room as the first tear fell from her eye. That was the first time I actually called her The Freak. When she got home from the station. I couldn't go again, just to see everything I'm not. Everything I'll never be. I'm NORMAL. What is she? A Witch. Petunia looked at the pictures that lined the hallway to her room, pictures of two very different girls. I am the normal one. Why can't they see she's wrong? She's the freak not me. Settling into her bed, Petunia glanced out the window and saw a bird flash past. Probably one of The Freak's friends wanting to trade toadstool. Petunia lay in her bed unable to sleep watching the ceiling of her room lighten as the sun rose. Soon Lily was up unable to sleep, and wanting to go to school as soon as possible. Good maybe she can leave for good. Then everyone will see that I'm the good one, I'm the normal one. Petunia shot up as she heard a knock on her door, ignoring it she hoped The Freak would leave.

"Petunia I know you're awake," the soft voice came through the worn wood. Petunia couldn't even stand to look at it. One more reminder of what she had lost on Lily's eleventh birthday. Before that day, the door was always open to let her sister in at anytime she needed her. Now that door was a symbol, a real barrier between the two sisters. A sigh came from the door, "Pet, I want you to know no matter what, you'll always be my sister and I'd do anything for you". Petunia still couldn't talk, scared her voice would give away her pain. Petunia listened hard waiting for Lily—The Freak—to say something else, but she didn't. She just walked away. The door stayed closed. The sisters stayed parted. Wiping the tears from her face Petunia hurriedly made her way to the bathroom.

Petunia stood in the shower, scalding water beating on her as she scrubbed at her face. "Petunia, get out of the shower, come tell your sister goodbye before she leaves!" the yell came from Rose Evans. Petunia sighed and turned the water off. Wrapping herself in a robe she wiped the steam from the mirror over the sink. Her reflection showed a girl with a long pale face, her blonde hair plastered to her head, but it was her eyes that held her attention. They were a dark whiskey brown and were as cold as the artic. Petunia stared into her reflection as hard as she could wishing that her anger would cause something to happen, like when Lily got angry, but then again Lily was a freak, and Petunia… she was normal.
