Chapter 7
Caesar's POV:
It seemed like a ghost town, not a single human being was to be spotted. We had been walking around for hours and Downtown was still empty.
"Maybe we should head back home, It seems like no one is out tonight." Jazmine pointed out.
"Yeah good idea. It just seems weird that its so empty around here, usually you would find all sorts of criminals in this area."
Everyone nodded.
"Lets go." I commanded as I led them back home.
As we walked I felt like we were being watched, I stopped to look behind me but when I did nothing was there.
"What is it Ceez?" Cindy asked.
"Nothing, I'm just imagining things." I said.
She shrugged it off and kept walking with Riley and Jazmine.
I looked behind me once more before doing the same.
Jazmine's POV:
I spent the entire school day ignoring Huey Freeman, the girls seemed happy about my actions since they could not leave him alone. I sat in the corner of our math class listening to their conversation, I could here them from the other side of the room.
"So Huey tell us what your book is about." One girl said.
"Yeah It seems interesting, Malcom X." A girl said while reading the cover of the book.
"Is it a fiction or something?" An ignorant girl asked.
Really these girls were stupid, even I know who Malcom X is. But then again how would I not know.
I watched Huey's regular scowl deepen, I could tell he was getting annoyed by those ignorant white girls.
"Malcolm X , born Malcolm Little and also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was an African-American Muslim minister and a human rights activist. To his admirers he was a courageous advocate for the rights of blacks, a man who indicted white America in the harshest terms for its crimes against black Americans; detractors accused him of preaching racism and violence. He has been called one of the greatest and most influential African Americans in history-"
"Great story Huey, sounds interesting." One of the girls said, interrupting Huey.
He just kept reading his book and tried his best to ignore the girls. I watched them all sigh dreamily while witnessing him read. How can they look at him like that? I'm the only one than can, don't they know Huey is mine! I hate him so much for making me feel this way. The bell had rung and finally I could be out of here. I grabbed my stuff but as soon as I got up Huey was standing in front of me blocking my way.
"Move Freeman." I said coldly.
"No. Why are you ignoring me?"
Is he really asking me this.
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Like you don't know." I continued.
He rolled his eyes at me.
"Look I told you guys how dangerous it could be and I also told you all that we should wait. But you and everyone else wanted to rush back in, and personally I don't want to deal with a drug lord."
"We don't even know if he's what were going against." I pointed out.
" I didn't want to risk it. I told you guys and you all made a choice like I made mine. Now can you stop ignoring me Dubois?" He said my last name like I had said his and it made me want to smile, but I didn't. I just stared at him with a scowl of my own.
"Hey Huey you coming?" One of the girls yelled out, causing Huey and I to brake out of our staring session.
"You should go, your little girlfriend is waiting."
He scowled even harder, If that was even possible, at my last statement.
"You know damn well I'm single."
I tried to pass again but he had held his arm up to block me access.
"Your going to make me late for Drama." I informed him.
"I'm not moving until you agree to cut the attitude and talk to me again. I made a choice like you made one Jazmine, so stop acting like a child."
I rolled my eyes.
The girls that were waiting got the memo and left for their classes.
"You left your friends, your team! How do you expect me to just be ok with that mess Huey? Please tell me."
He sighed tiredly.
"Now If you'll excuse me." I aid while pushing my way past him and walking out the classroom.
The bell had rung while I was halfway there.
"Damn you Huey." I muttered as I walked to the office to get a tardy slip.
Huey's POV:
Really what is wrong with that girl? I made a choice like she made a choice. Why cant she respect that?
The bell had rung while I was walking to the library, this was a free period for me since I already had twenty four credits by the tenth grade. I noticed Caesar was also in the library reading a book, he noticed me and called out to me.
"Hey Big Hue!" He shouted, causing the librarian to shush him.
He mouthed a "Sorry." To her and turned back to me.
I sat down in front of him and took out the stack of homework I had, this was usually when I worked on it.
"How was your day? Jazzy Fresh still ignoring you?"
I ignored him and wrote the answer for number one.
"I'll take that as a yes." He said as he kept reading.
"I don't know why? I told her I made a decision like you all made one."
"So you decide to speak." He teased me.
I glared at him.
"Sorry sorry. Well Huey I get what you are saying and you are right, you made a decision based on what you thought was right. But Jazmine sees you as a traitor for leaving the group like that, and shes not the only one. Be prepared a t lunch." He said as he closed his book.
"I think I'll get this one. I'll see you at lunch Big Hue." Caesar said while checking his book out and leaving. I sighed and kept working on my assignments.
Lunch time finally came and as I went to sit down I could here Cindy run her mouth, nothing new there.
"Look who it is. Punk bitch nigga is here Reezy."
"Ye I see his gay ass. What you doin here nigga?"
"You come to tell us you gon to leave this group too?"Cindy said.
I ignored her and my ignorant brother. I looked over to where Jazmine was sitting, she looked the other way when she noticed I was staring at her.
I had brought a salad but I honestly had lost the appetite.
"Why is yo punk ass starin at my homegirl like that?" Cindy said.
"Cuz his gay ass want a piece of that." Riley said.
Cindy and him began to laugh hysterically and I was starting to get tired of them real quick.
"Listen up because I'm saying this once."
This caused them all to look up at me and pay attention.
"I made a choice to not get involved with this mess because I didn't want to put an outsider in danger. You all decided to continue with this act and that's fine and good, but stop holding me against it. I made a choice and you made yours." and with that I got up and left. The last thing I heard was Riley say.
"Finally that nigga gone."
Jazmine's POV:
I watched Huey leave.
"Finally McTraitor is gone." Cindy said, causing Riley to snicker at the name she gave Huey.
I rolled my eyes at them and stood up.
"Where you going Jazzy?" Cindy asked me.
"To the bathroom." I lied.
"No she ain't. She goin to go find my punk ass brother." Riley told Cindy.
I just shook my head at the both of them and left.
Where could he have went? I looked everywhere he could be. The library? Nope I looked there. The back field? Not there either. Where the hell did he go? As I walked my question had been answered since I saw him in the hallway talking to that Kiesha chick. She was touching his arm and rubbing her filthy hands allover it.
"So Freeman do you think you could tutor me in math? I'm having a hard time passing."
She was fluttering her eyes, she thought she was being cute.
"Why don't you go to the school tutors?" He asked her as he tried to walk away, but she blocked his path.
"Because I don't understand them. Please Huey."
"I'm sorry but who are you again?" He asked her.
I began to snicker, but no one heard me.
"What? It's me, Keisha Payne."
He shook his head.
"Sorry I don't know who you are."
"We have Gym and Math together." She informed him.
He stopped to think for a couple of seconds, causing Keisha to look hopeful.
"Nope nothing." He said bursting her hope and walking away.
That's what she gets.
I followed Huey but I did not announce my presence just yet.
"Jazmine could you please stop hiding." He said with out looking back.
"How do you know I was there?" I asked as I walked next to him and we began to walk nowhere in particular.
"Because I can feel your presence." He said.
I giggled but then stopped.
He looked at me with a confused look on his face.
"I'm sorry for being mean to you. You do have a choice and we were stupid enough to blame you for it. I know that you are right about the dangers lurking around us, but I still wanted to help innocent people. That night when I saw those men taking advantage of Krista like that I realized that this was what I wanted to do with my life. I would hate my self if I cant save anyone."
"Jazmine you can't help them all."
"I know, but I can still try."
He sighed.
"The point is that I respect your decision, even if it took me this long to do so, so that's why I want to apologize and set things straight."
I help out my hand.
"Are we good?" I asked.
He looked at my hand for a little while before taking it and spinning me around like we were ball room dancing. I giggled and even he smiled a little.
"Yeah." He said.
the bell rung and we began to walk to our next class together.
Caesar's POV:
"So Jazzy an McTraitor good now?" Cindy asked me
"It seems like it. You and Riley should let this traitor thing go." I told her.
"Ceez are you telling me that you are ok with Huey leaving us like that?" She seemed hurt.
"Of course I'm mad at him, but I don't blame him either."
Cindy rolled her eyes.
"Whatever." She said as she walked inside her house.
Her parents were hardly home so Cindy usually had the whole house to herself.
"So Ceez what's the plan for tonight?"
"Well I talked to Krista and told her about last night. She told me that she look into it but it was probably a calm night."
Cindy nodded.
"The best we can do is try again to night."
"Yeah I agree." She said as she poured a shot of vodka for herself.
I watched her take the shot.
"You want one?"
"No Cin, I'm good."
She shrugged and poured another one. I shook my head at her and at that moment my Holotalkie began to ring.
"Hey Krista, what's up?"
"Hey, I looked in on what you asked me to and it seems that I cant find anything. It just seems like it was a calm night."
"Ok, thanks Krista."
"One thing?" She said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Is it true what Jazmine told me about Huey leaving the team?"
"Yes it is." I informed her.
She sighed.
"I see, well you guys be careful."
and with that we hung up.
"So what did Krista say?" Cindy asked as she took down her third shot.
"Nothing important,Cindy enough shots." I said as I stopped her from feeling her fourth cup.
"What? I just want to feel relaxed Ceez."
I rolled my eyes and placed the Vodka bottle back in its Cabinet.
"Come on white girl, lets go relax some other place." I said as I dragged her away from the liquor.
"No my babies." She said as she tried to reach for them, but we were pretty far now.
Riley's POV:
"So I fogive yo punk ass, Huey."
"Thanks, I guess." My brother said as he kept reading.
"So, you permanently out nigga?"
"Yes Riley."
I rolled my eye at him and kept playing Black Ops.
"Ok nigga, you do you."
My phone had vibrated in my pocket. I had received a text from Caesar telling me the plans for tonight. I shut off the X-box and walked upstairs to get my things situated. Grandad was going to be on a date tonight so I did not have to worry on sneaking out tonight.
It seemed more lively than last night but not as bad as the other nights we've been here. We stopped a few car thefts but that was pretty much it.
"This shit suck my nigga. I's ready to kick some ass."
"Who you tellin? Where all these bitches at." Cindy agreed with me.
"Guys we don't want it to be like that. Id rather have no crime at all." Jazmine said.
"True." Caesar nodded in agreement.
Still I'm ready to beat some niggas up, so they need to do some shit and fast.
Eddie Perez:
"Boss It seems like one of our men have spotted those teenagers running around again."
"What! Why did they not capture them?"
"I don't know boss."
"Well don't just stand there, go get them! Bring them to me alive!"
"Yes sir!"
Finally I was going to meet the people who had the courage to mess with I, Eddie Perez. They didn't know what they had coming.
