Lacy knew sleeping was useless. She still tried but every time she closed her eyes she tried to wake up and see the man that attacked her. She knew they would never catch him. How do you catch a man that nobody knows what he looks like. Tears started to flow silently down Lacy's face. She just wanted to escape. She felt like she was in a dream and none of this was happening. She slowly gave up and drifted off into a deep sleep, exhaustion consuming her whole body and mind.
Lacy woke up startled by a knock on her door. She looked over at the clock on the wall. It was 3:00PM. She couldn't believe she slept the day away. She has never slept this late. Then again I did not fall asleep until 6AM, Lacy thought to herself as she walked over to her door. She looked through the peep hole in her apartment door. It was Detective Gonzalez. Lacy did not want to answer the door but she felt she had no choice, so she opens the door. Detective Gonzalez is standing in the door way holding two cups of coffee and is accompanied by a tall gentleman with black hair and muscular build. "Who are you?" Lacy asks looking at the man.
"I am Detective Rimerez. I am Detective Gonzalez's partner." Detective Rimerez replies looking at Lacy.
"Can we come in Lacy?" Detective Gonzalez asks.
"Sure. Don't mean to be rude Detective Rimerez. I don't exactly have the best trust in the world right now." Lacy replies as she sits on her couch. Detective Gonzalez and Detective Rimerez take seat on two nearby chairs.
"Here's some coffee Lacy. Lacy we stopped to check up on you and see if you changed her mind about the morning after pill?" Detective Gonzalez asks as she gives Lacy a cup of coffee. Detective Gonzalez hopes Lacy will reconsider the morning after pill after she breaks the news to Lacy that the man who raped her did not use a condom and spermicide was found inside her.
"No. My family does not believe in the morning after pill. Besides I can't get pregnant anyway. Why are you asking me this again?" Lacy asks. She could sense Detective Gonzalez was holding some information back.
"The man who raped you last night did not use a condom. We found spermicide inside you. Unfortunately his DNA is not in the system but we will not let this stop us." Detective Gonzalez replies feeling empathetic towards Lacy.
"Joy." Lacy replies sarcastically and takes a huge gulp of coffee.
"Lacy we will get this guy. Have you noticed anyone following you or someone you has given you a bad vibe before you were attacked?" Detective Rimerez asks.
"Yeah actually there was a real creepy guy in the diner that I work at last night. He was hitting on me and I just blew him off because he gave me the creeps." Lacy replies as she takes another gulp of coffee.
"Okay good. We are going to go find out who he was. We will check up on you again later today." Detective Gonzalez replies as she stands up. The two detectives leave and Lacy is consumed by the silence of her apartment and the all-consuming memories of last night. She just wants to die.
