Chapter 7

Getting home from track at 9 usually makes me happy because I'm home so early.

Getting home from track at 9 to find Klaus in my room, sitting at my desk, doesn't make me happy. That is something that terrifies me.

I gasped when I saw him and tried to back out of the room but ran into something. When I turned around I saw that it was him. He closed my bedroom door and locked it.

"What do you want?" I asked him terrified.

"We need to talk." He said talking in a low voice. "Keep your voice down. It would be strange if your family barged in."

"I don't want to talk to you. You scare me a lot." I said telling him exactly what was on my mind.

"I'll be about 10 minutes and then I will leave." Klaus said to me and sat down in my desk chair. He motioned for me to sit on the bed but I shook my head at him.

"No. I am not sitting on my bed and getting it all sweaty." I said motioning to myself. "As you can see I'm sweaty and disgusting and I want to shower so hurry your speech up." I hoped I looked stronger than I felt because I was actually shaking in my boots on the inside.

He rolled his eyes and turned his head to glare at me causing my heartbeat to speed up. I kept remembering the night before, I didn't want to, but my mind is an idiot.

"I just wanted to explain to you what a vampire really is. Vampires, like my siblings and me, enjoy killing people. We like the hunt and the kill more than the blood itself. We're not like vampires in Hollywood who don't want to harm people." He said.

Great, so basically he just told me that he likes killing people. I, being a people, don't like that confession.

"So why are you telling me this?" I asked my voice wavering a little.

"I just wanted you to know."

He stood up from my chair and started to walk toward me. I backed up and almost fell on a shoe that was in the middle of the floor. When I regained my footing I looked up and he was right in front of me. I gasped and almost fell over again but he caught me by the arm in a hard grip.

"So, don't tell anyone about this or I will not blink before killing you."

Suddenly his grip on my arm was gone and so was he. I looked around my room, he wasn't there but the door was opened. I sighed and went over and closed it.

All I wanted right then was sleep; it had been a tough day.

O

"Caroline?" Elijah said into his phone while walking around the girl's neighborhood. He didn't want Klaus or Rebekah to overhear his conversation.

"Yea? Who is this?" She said back from over the line. Elijah sighed in relief that he had gotten the right number.

"It is Elijah. I think that I need your help."

"Elijah? How did you get my number?" Caroline said loudly into the phone. He could hear someone saying something in the background but couldn't make out what it was.

"It doesn't matter. I need your help." Elijah said already loosing his patience with her teenage antics.

"Why do you need my help? You're the 1000 year old vampire." Caroline said back to him.

"That is true but I think that in persuading my brother to do things you are much better." Elijah said as he glanced over his shoulder to make sure no one was watching him.

Caroline paused for a minute before asking, "What do you need to persuade him to do?"

"He found another doppleganger and I think he will kill her if he finds out what her curse is. I need your help to stop him."

"WHAT? Another doppleganger? Like looking like Elena? So why would he kill her? Wouldn't he want to use her blood?" Caroline practically screamed into Elijah's ear.

"No, a different person. She doesn't look like Katherine or Elena at all." Elijah said.

"Oh." Caroline didn't speak for a while but when she did Elijah could tell she had calmed down considerably. "So she has her own curse?"

"Yes. Once Klaus finds out what it is he will want to kill her so it won't be broken. I promised her I would get help to protect her." Elijah said pacing back and forth on the street.

"So you know what the curse is?" Caroline said getting excited on the other line.

Elijah heard a twig snap and spun on his heel but saw nothing. "I have to go. Are you going to come and help?" He said quickly into the phone.

"Yes. Where are you?" She asked him.

"In a town in New York." He heard another twig snap and looked around again. Nothing. "I will send you other details." After that he hung up.

After looking around once Elijah ran to the side of the road and jumped into a nearby tree to see what was making the noise. Once he left the middle of the road three deer strode out and crossed the road.

Elijah sighed in relief that it wasn't Klaus and hopped from the tree speeding off down the road.

O

When I got home from school the next day I made sure not to look over to the house across the street. I walked into the house right next to Rose. When we got inside I locked the door and put the deadbolt in.

We threw our backpacks down in the laundry room and she asked me, "Are you going to watch that movie with me tonight?" Oh crap I had forgotten I had promised to go see a movie with her.

"Sorry Rose I have a lot on my mind, I just want to be alone today." I said hoping she wouldn't get mad.

"That's fine. I'll go do all my homework before I call Cece and Cassie. They might be able to go with me."

I didn't have any homework so I just walked into the living room and curled up into a chair. I flipped through what felt like all the channels on TV before I settled on Zoey 101 on Teen Nick.

TGIF right? That's how I felt. I closed my eyes because they felt really heavy. I must have fallen asleep in the chair because I woke up and Ned's Declassified was on. I looked at the clock and it was 5 o'clock. That means I slept for like 2 ½ hours. I shouldn't have been surprised seeing as I had gotten barely any sleep after Klaus had 'visited' the night before.

"Am I home alone?" I yelled out. It was obvious, Hannah had girl scouts, Rose had friends and my parents were working. I felt like yelling anyway though.

When no one answered I decided that I should take a shower. I was seriously tired so I thought a nice shower might help.

An hour and a nice hot shower later I was sitting in my chair in front of the TV again watching The Office. I was wearing my favorite pink flannel pajama pants and a giant black tee shirt.

I, always having the volume up as high as it could go, didn't hear any doors open. At one moment Michael was dancing on a pool table and the next Elijah was standing in front of me. I swear to God, I think I almost had a heart attack. I screamed and flipped out of my chair and hit the ground.

Elijah reached down to help me up but I swatted his hand away.

"Jeez!" I put my hand over my heart and started taking deep breaths, "Are you trying to scare me to death?"

"Sorry." That's all he was going to say? He almost killed me!

I tried to calm my rapidly beating heart and overly pissed off brain before talking to him again, "Why are you here?"

"I wanted to tell you that my brother is close to finding out what your curse is." He said to me.

I let my hand fall from my chest as I stood up sighing. "How?"

"He knows a lot of witches, and when you know enough witches you know everything."

"Well how do you know?" I asked him.

"I might have overheard a phone call." He said and I raised my eyebrows. "With vampire hearing it's hard not to." He said in reply.

"Okay… So does it have to do with him? Will he try to hurt me?" I asked him.

"My brother is obsessed with creating hybrids who will be sired to him. Sired is like a slave, they have to do everything he says. They can't help it." He said in reply to my questioning look. "They become sired because they are grateful that he broke their curse of having to turn on the full moon."

"So what does that have to do with me?" I asked.

"You're curse is the curse of the moon. It binds them to the moon. If it is broken they don't have to turn anymore." He said.

"So, they wouldn't be thankful to Klaus anymore?" I asked him.

"No. That's why I didn't want Klaus to find out. Any hybrids he turns won't be sired to him and won't obey him." He said to me. "He won't want this curse to be broken. He won't let this curse be broken."

"How will he do that?" I asked with a bad feeling in my stomach.

"He will kill you before they can." He said.

That's when I fainted.
