Rothbart's Cavern…

"Sir?"

"What is it Gifre? Where is the boy?"

"Uh, well that's the thing sir, he's gone."

With a cold calm, Rothbart stood from his throne and walked down to the cowering Gifre, then with a sudden movement he swatted him to the other side of the cavern with a sickening thump.

"Good help is so difficult to find."

With Gifre gone Rothbart summoned his chess soldiers, and divided them, a smaller number would go after the boy, and he'd send the rest after the princess and her captain. He could feel his victory within his grasp as he sent them out to do his bidding.

Encampment…

Emma slowly rose, only to realize Killian was no longer next to her in their shelter. Quickly she readied herself for another day of searching for their son. As she exited the tent she caught sight of Killian ordering Starkey back to the ship.

"Killian? What's going on?"

"We must move, my love, during his watch Starkey happened upon a regiment of soldiers searching the other end of the beach. I've sent him back to the Jewel, they are to sail close to the coast until we need them to leave. I'll not chance losing our getaway."

Quickly they packed up what supplies they needed and burned whatever was left and covered up their site, so as not to give away their position. They began to hike into the forest, taking a new route and completely avoiding the bear's home they'd come across the day before. Not knowing that had they taken their original route they would have come across their son sleeping soundly cuddled on all sides by a bear family. But they continued on, reaching a small cave opening soon, and they began to search the cave for any signs of Henry. They went deeper and deeper into the cave to find that it became a winding maze within. Holding on tightly to the others hand they began their descent into a larger cave at the heart of the island. As they began to explore the cave, a pile of discarded rope caught Killian's eye,

"Love, over here, I think I've found something."

"Killian over there look!"

Emma ran over to a corner of the cave and picked up the small cloak obviously made for a child. It was Henry's cloak, she'd recognize it anywhere, his initials stitched into the hood alongside an anchor. Emma held the cloak close to her face and inhaled her boy's scent.

"This is Henry's he was here! Oh Killian, we're so close I know it!"

Unfortunately they hadn't kept their voices in check and soon they heard the marching boots of Rothbart's soldiers.

Bear's nest…

Meanwhile Henry continued on with his day playing with the bear cubs and they stumbled upon the beach. In the distance he saw a ship sailing along the coastline. It was his mama he was sure of it. She was here! He could go home again, he looked a little sad as he looked over at his furry friends, but he knew they would be okay. No sooner had he began to follow the ship's mooring he saw men from the corner of his eye approaching. Hurriedly, he turned back to the bears, and then made for the dense forest, running trusting they would be able to run along side him.

Henry ran as fast as his little legs would take him, into the forest, back towards the caves. He could hear his pursuers fast on his heels, he could feel the panic start to over take him. He had to find his mother, she'd protect him and they could go home. Just as he felt the presence of one of the soldiers get too close a loud roar ripped through the air. The mother bear had returned and upon finding her cubs under attack went into full defensive. The few soldiers that had made it close enough to Henry and the cubs were quickly thrown towards the trees, or swiped and scratched. The mother bear moaned to Henry and he and the cubs with a sparing glance back ran towards the caves. Henry ran until his foot caught on a rock and he fell forward, the cubs skidding to a halt at his back. He could no longer hear the soldiers and soon the mouth of the cave was filled with the body of the large brown bear. Henry ran to her, stroking her soft head whispering his thanks for saving him. She nuzzled his neck and he giggled walking forward and further into the cave.

Emma and Killian heard a faint roar from the end of the cave they'd entered, but the sound of the marching boots were becoming louder and louder. Deciding to chance on the sound of the animal on the other side of the cave they ran back as silently as they could the way they came. As they trekked back through the maze of caverns, Emma heard a quiet giggle. She began to run, Killian right behind her as they came upon the most amazing sight. There in the middle of the cave was a little boy, rough housing with a pair of bear cubs as their mother lazily gazed on.

"HENRY!?"

"MAMA!"

Mother and son ran towards each other coming together in a tight hug. Emma whispering words of love and affection as she stroked his dark hair. His little hands clinging to the fabric of her tunic burying his little face in her neck. Warm tears of relief ran down both their faces and Emma pulled him away to assess for any injuries on her boy's figure. As she looked him over Henry's eyes drifted over her shoulder to the man standing just behind his mother, silent tears falling down his face. A look of relief and love etched on his face. Henry pulled away from his mother and ran into the man's unsuspecting arms.

When the boy launched himself at Killian, his arms automatically came around him craddling his small body to his own as though he was always meant to. Henry burrowed his head into Killian's shoulder whispering,

"Papa, you're here. You came back to us."

Killian could do nothing by nod his head into his son's neck, clutching him tighter. He didn't know how Henry knew who he was, but he wouldn't question it but accept the love flowing from his son as he whispered apologies into his ear, for not being there. Henry pulled away, his little hand grabbing his father's face.

"But you were! Mama said you were always watching over me, and I knew you were. I missed you Papa."

Killian's smile was watery as he looked over his son's shoulder to see his wife with her hands over her mouth muffling her joyous sobs. She never imagined their family truly being whole again. Her loves in one another's arms, she walked over to them, and Killian crushed her body to theirs and they held one another. Finally reunited, they smiled and laughed at the sheer joy they were finding just being in one another's company.

The bear family watched the human reunion with lazy interest until the sounds of the soldiers came closer. The mother bear rose and nudged her cubs toward another cave opening between the two ends they'd just come from. She moaned at the happy family to move along and follow her out.

"Come my love, it looks as though Henry's guardians are showing us the way out."

Killian guided Emma out first with his hand on her lower back through the slender opening before passing their son into his mother's arms and following them through. Henry lurched back into his father's arms holding on tightly. Killian felt his heart squeeze at the affectionate move and held onto his son that much tighter and they navigated through another set of the maze. He wouldn't let his boy go for anything. Emma kept glancing back at her boys, and soon as she looked back once more it was to see their son fast asleep his head tucked into his father's neck. She reached back and rubbed his little back, before weaving her fingers with her husband's and finding a smaller cave to camp in for the night.
