She stepped into the Carriage and sat down. Luke followed.
"Wow this is nice." She said quietly.
"Well it better be because it is taking us through seven different cities." He said sitting down on the other side.
"Wow. This is going to be a long ride. I hope you don't mind if I sleep most of the time." She laughed.
"I don't mind at all. Everyone needs their beauty sleep. I know I need mine." He said winking and leaning back in the seat.
He whistled loudly and then the carriage started to move. They headed down a road that went through the forest and then down a big hill. An hour had passed and Julia glanced toward Luke to see what he was doing. Luke had fallen fast asleep. She turned her attention back to the window and gazed at the beauty that Mother Nature had created. She slowly fell asleep and before she knew it, she woke up in a nice bed. Her eyes slowly opened and focused her eyes. She saw Luke sitting on a nice leather chair with his legs crossed reading a book. She slowly sat herself up and looked around the room taking in the scene.
"Oh wow this place is amazing."
Luke smiled slightly and then put his book down. "Welcome back."
Julia got up and walked toward a window. It was dark but there were lights everywhere that lit up a big city.
"It's so big." She said with big eyes and a smile.
Just then Julia remembered that she fell asleep in the carriage. She stood there for a moment and then smiled.
"Would you like to take a stroll through the city with me?" Luke asked.
"Sounds fun."
They tidied themselves up and then headed out. As they stepped into the streets, all of the smells and sounds of music brought them joy. They walked shoulder to shoulder as they explored almost every street in the city. There seemed to be thousands of vendors and people roaming around the streets that twisted and turned.
"This has been such a great first day already. Thank you for taking me with you." Julia said happily.
"You're welcome." He said with a smile.
Later that evening they ate supper and headed back to their inn. What Julia didn't know, was that they were staying in the best inn in town. Once they checked back into the room, Julia flopped on the bed almost falling asleep instantly.
"You can have the big bed if that is what you are trying to say." Luke said laughing and sitting down on the chair in the corner.
"You're not going to bed?"
"Ah don't worry about me." He said waving a hand.
He undid his shoelaces and took of his shoes then got back up to grab a pillow and blanket. Julia got up from the bed, grabbed her bag and went to change her clothes. When she came back from changing, she saw that Luke was snuggled up on the couch with clothes laid out on a chest ready for tomorrow. She walked over to the bed and laid out for tomorrow. She walked over to the bed and laid down looking at the ceiling. There was crimson and grey patterns painted all over the ceiling. They thought of the crimson reminded her of the color of her door back home. She turned to the night stand and turned off the lamp.
"Good night miss Julia."
"Good night Luke."
She turned and situated herself so that she was comfortable. Moments later she fell asleep. As she woke up, a beam of light was shining in her face. As she put her hand up to block the light, she noticed Luke was sitting by the window trying to block the sun with his head. He was sitting on a chair with a book in front of his face.
"Good morning sleeping beauty." He smirked and Julia sat up to look at her pocket watch.
"It's only eight."
"I'm just playing. We should start packing and leave here in an hour if we want to make it to Mexico City before one in the morning."
"Alright. Well it will only take me a couple minutes to get ready. I'll be right out."
Julia rushed to the other room, got dressed, and fixed her hair. Everything was cleared out of the room and Luke walked in the front door.
"Everything's ready to go." Luke said.
"Alright."
Julia walked out the door and Luke closed the door behind her. They walked out of the inn and into a carriage. The carriage jolted forward and left the town. Fifteen minutes passed by and Luke went over to grab one of his bags. He pulled out a nice white blouse with lace around the collar.
"Before I forget, this is for you. I saw it yesterday and I thought you might like it."
"Thank you! It's pretty. I think I will wear it tomorrow."
They both got comfy in their seats and gazed out of the carriage windows. Before they knew it, they were at the halfway point. They got out of the carriage to stretch their legs and headed to the market.
"I will get us some lunch. Meet you back at the carriage in about fifteen minutes." Julia said.
"Okay. Be careful and don't get lost." Luke replied.
Julia headed down deep into the market. There were all sorts of fruits and vegetables that she had never seen before. One thing that she knew well was the fruit. Shen her father traveled to Mexico he always brought back nice ripe fruit. She bought bread, cookies, fruit, and breaded chicken. On her way back to the carriage, a nice woman came up to her and gave her a big hug then put a necklace around her neck. Julia gazed down at the necklace and then looked back up but noticed that the woman was nowhere in sight. She walked back to the carriage and fed the horses some apples. Moments later Luke came up beside her and rubbed their necks. When all the apples were gone, Luke picked up the bags of food and got in the carriage. Julia shortly followed after him and the carriage started moving again.
"This food smells fantastic!" Luke exclaimed while peeking in the bags.
Julia handed him a bag that had some bread, apples, chicken, and oranges in it. They both opened their bags and started eating. When they were done eating Julia pulled out some cookies and fruit just like when her father used to bring home.
"Here try this. Peel the skin on it first. It's messy though so be careful." Julia said handing him the fruit.
He started peeling the top and took a bite. Juice leaked everywhere and ran down his hand and chin. They both laughed and continued eating.
"I think your sleeve is ruined." Julia pointed out.
"Oh man I think so too." Luke said inspecting it.
Julia got out a piece of cloth and cleaned her hands. She gave the cloth to Luke and wiped every single drop of juice off of himself.
"So what do you call that fruit?"
"It's called a mango."
A flash of sadness passed her by for a moment but then was brush away.
"What's the matter? Did I say something wrong? " Luke asked curiously.
"No. It's just that my father used to bring back mangos all the time when he visited Mexico."
"Does he not bring them anymore?"
"He died a couple months ago." She said looking down.
A tear fell down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away.
"Is that why you were so concerned about your mother?"
Julia faced Luke with a concerned face.
"Why did you leave your home?" Julia asked changing the subject.
Luke looked down and leaned forward putting his elbows on his knees. "My life was too complicated. I needed some freedom."
"That must have been hard."
Luke nodded then looked up at her. He smiled and then made himself comfy in his seat once again. "Enough of this sad chit chat. We should get some rest."
Julia nodded and then pulled her legs up on the seat and laid sideways. About a half an hour had passed and Julia was asleep. Luke got up and put a blanket over Julia. He sat back down and fell asleep. The carriage jolted to a stop four hours later and woke Julia. Luke stood up and opened the carriage door. Julia stepped out and was in awe with the scene that was in front of her.
