The next morning, Topanga opened her eyes to find a quiet, motionless house. The peace and quiet felt beautiful to her, and she continued to lie in bed, just enjoying it. She turned her head and looked at the clock. 8:47 it said. Then she turned her head the other way and saw Cory sleeping peacefully. He had a gentle, peaceful look on his face, and Topanga smiled. She loved how cute he looked when he was sleeping.
She continued to watch him for a few minutes, until he began to stir. He opened his eyes and saw Topanga smiling at him, and he smiled back. He held his arms out and Topanga scooted over to him, and they wrapped their arms around each other. She laid her head down on his pillow to face him and smiled again.
"Good morning," he said, giving her a quick kiss.
"Good morning, honey," she answered.
"What time is it?" he asked.
"About 9. I think I'll get up and start making some pancakes," she said, beginning to sit up.
"No, don't get up," he said, sitting up. "I'll go make some pancakes. You can stay in bed and I'll bring you some when they're done."
"Thank you, sweetie," she said, smiling at him again.
He gave her a quick kiss and then put his feet on the ground and stood up.
"You have to be well-rested," he said. "Don't want to stress the baby out."
"Honey, I don't think the baby can even get stressed out at this point," she said, looking at her nearly flat stomach.
"Well, better to be safe than sorry," he said, putting his finger up and walking out of the room.
Topanga smiled and shook her head. He would always be the biggest worrywart in the world, but she loved him for that. He always means well.
She lied back down and reached for the remote on her nightstand. She turned the TV on and began watching the news.
In a few minutes, Auggie peeked his head into the room.
"Good morning, Auggie," Topanga greeted him.
"Good morning, Mommy," he answered. He ran and jumped onto the bed, scooting over to Topanga. Topanga pulled him to her and held him in her arms.
Then Auggie said, "Where's Daddy?"
"He's making pancakes," she answered.
At that, Auggie jumped out of his mother's arms and ran out of the room and into the kitchen.
He found his father facing the other way, mixing a bowl of pancake batter at the counter.
"Daddy!" Auggie cried out. Cory turned around and held his hands out.
"Bubba!"
Auggie ran to his father and he picked him up and hugged him.
"Whatcha doin?" Auggie asked.
"Making pancakes. Wanna help?"
"Yeah! Can I pour the batter?" Auggie asked, excitedly.
"Sure," Cory said. "But first I gotta finish the batter," he said, putting Auggie down.
Auggie looked over the counter and saw the bowl still needed mixing. He continued to watch his father until he was ready to pour the batter onto the griddle. Auggie was really excited and loved helping out.
When the first batch had been cooking for a few minutes, Angela walked into the kitchen.
"Mmm, smells good!" she said.
Cory turned and grinned at her.
"Angela!" Auggie cried out. He ran to her and hugged her legs. Angela laughed and said, "Were you helping your dad?"
"Yep! You have to eat the first batch, cause that's the one I helped with!"
She laughed again. "Okay, bud. First batch it is."
Cory flipped the pancakes and Auggie went over to watch. Angela sat at the table.
"So are we continuing the party today?" Angela asked.
"Shawn has to leave today, so not really."
"Oh," Angela said. "Are Maya and Katy coming over?"
"Well, I think Katy said she'll come over this morning. And Maya, well she's-"
The buzzer went off in the apartment.
"Maya! And my mom," they heard through the speaker.
"She's here," Cory said. He walked over and told her to come on up and then went back to his pancakes.
The door opened and Maya walked in the apartment, her mother following close behind.
"Where's Riley?"
"She hasn't woken up yet. Help yourselves to some pancakes," Cory said.
Katy walked over to the kitchen and sat down at the table. Without a word, Maya walked into the hallway and went to Riley's room. She opened the door and saw Riley completely asleep. Maya walked over to Riley's bed and kneeled down, looking at her sleeping face.
"Aww, she's sleeping. How nice," she said, smiling. "Riley, wake up!" Maya yelled loudly.
Riley jumped, flailing her arms around in panic.
She looked around and then saw Maya standing nearby with a smirk on her face.
"Maya!" Riley complained.
"It's time to wake up," Maya said nonchalantly.
"Well, you could have woken me up nicer than that!"
"Yeah," Maya said, shrugging her shoulders. "Your dad's making breakfast. Let's go."
Riley exhaled loudly in complaint and then followed Maya into the kitchen.
They got their pancakes from Cory and then he put some pancakes on a plate. He grabbed a glass and poured some orange juice, then poured some syrup on the pancakes. He carried all of that to take them to his room.
When he got there, Topanga looked over and saw him and smiled.
"Here's breakfast," he said, with his signature grin.
Topanga got out of bed and said, "Thank you very much, honey."
She grabbed the plate and the glass and put them on the nightstand. Then she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. He backed her up and they fell onto their bed, Topanga giggling. He put his hands on her waist and then began to tickle her sides. She began laughing loudly.
"Geez, you guys, seriously. You're on each other again," they heard from the door.
Shawn was standing there in his pajamas, shaking his head. He had been walking by and heard the laughing coming from the door. Topanga laughed in response.
"Hey!" Cory said. "There's pancakes out there. Go eat!" he said, releasing Topanga and pointing to the kitchen.
Shawn laughed and walked to the kitchen.
"We really need to stop with the PDA," Topanga said.
"Nah, he just always catches us at the wrong time. Besides, it's our house," he said, wrapping his arms around her again.
"No, we should probably go out there. All of our guests are out there," she said, slipping out of Cory's grasp, grabbing her breakfast, and walking out the door.
Cory was left lying on his bed with his arms extended, watching his wife walk out. He stood up, defeated, and followed his wife.
Shawn was standing near Katy, eating his pancakes while standing. Angela was at the counter, pouring more batter onto the griddle.
The rest of the group was sitting around the table, eating their pancakes and chatting happily.
"So where are you off to next, Shawn?" Angela asked from the counter.
"Oh, I'll be heading to Chicago," he said. "But don't worry," he said, looking at Katy. "It's only for two days. Then I'm free for a week and a half."
Katy smiled shyly at him and continued eating.
"When do you have to leave?" Angela asked.
"My flight leaves at two, so I'll have to be going pretty soon."
"So do you think you'll be staying around New York then, Shawnie?" Cory asked, putting his arms around Topanga.
"I have a feeling I probably will," Shawn said, looking at Katy.
Maya looked at Riley and grinned. Riley smiled back.
Angela got another plate of pancakes and set them on the table. Then she sat by
Cory looked around at everyone that had come for his party. He was standing with his arms around his beautiful, wonderful wife, whom he loved infinitely. She was now carrying his future child, which he couldn't wait to be born. She also held Auggie on her lap, who was eating contently. Next to them was Maya and Riley, best friends like him and Shawn. They looked very happy. Next to Maya was Angela, who looked so relaxed and happy- more than she had been in a long time. Katy was next to her, and she looked almost like she was in a daze of happiness. It seemed that nothing could bring her down. Standing above her was Shawn, who was almost reaching his arm around her as he ate his pancakes.
This is the perfect picture, Cory thought. Everyone here, happy. And the plan worked. Shawn and Katy and Maya have the possibility of becoming a family. And Topanga, my wonderful wife.
Topanga looked up at Cory and smiled, almost as if she heard what he was thinking. He smiled back and leaned down to kiss her head. He couldn't wait until they could all come together again.
