I know it's been a very long time, but here's the new chapter. I hope everyone enjoys it. I'll try to write another chapter by the end of the week. There's really not much else to say. Remember, I don't own Soul Eater and never will.
"Oh Kid…" I heard a voice drift through my sleep. "Kid… It's time to wake up, Kid. We have work to do." I grumbled, raising my hands to run over my face. "Kid. This is not the time to be lazing about." My hands were suddenly ripped away from me.
My eyes popped open just as I was pulled up from the bed to stare into bright green eyes. Morgan was sitting beside me on the bed, my wrists held in her tight clutches. I immediately starting struggling, and she let me go without much of a fight. I collapsed back down on the blankets and stared at her in confusion. "What are you doing in my room?"
"You were taking too long to get up, so I decided it was time to wake you." she said. Her face split in a strange, tauntingly sly smile. I scowled at her. "Oh, come on, Kid. You know we have work to do today if we're ever going to find a way to stop this war."
"You act like we're friends or something," I said, scornfully. "We're not, just so you're clear."
"I know that, Kid. We're not friends. At least not yet. But you can't blame a girl for trying to get along with her new teammates." She smirked again, which in turn made me mad. "Come on, get up, get dressed. We have a long day ahead of us. Lord Death apparently has a mission for us." She slid off the bed, giving me a small wave, before leaving through the door of my room.
She'd been living with us for over a week now, and every day was like digging rusty nails into my eyes. We spent hours at a time together, pouring over books in the library and discussing plans with my father about our new strategies. She even gave displays of her magic every now and then. It made me nervous, however, when she dropped her soul protect while in the death room and conjured up burning green balls of fire, the color always resembling her eyes. It seemed we were all at her mercy, and I didn't like it.
Now, my father wanted to send Liz, Patti, and myself off with her to try and break up a coven of witches who had settled in the desert near Death City. We'd kept an eye on them for a while, not really concerned because they seemed weak, but our spies had come back with news that Helena, a leader in the Witch Army had arrived, which hinted at an attack taking place in the near future. My father believed with our combined efforts, Morgan and I could take out the entire coven with little fuss. I asked to have back up, but Father denied me, wanting to keep Morgan's identity a secret for a while longer. And the only other two that knew about her, Maka and Soul had just left on another mission before the news had come in. So, it was just to be us two on the mission.
After dressing, I walked out of the bedroom to find Liz, Patti, and Morgan all sitting at the long table in the dining room. When I walked in, a chorus of giggles suddenly ceased and every eye turned on me. I glared at them in turn, wondering what had been so funny. Morgan smirked at me, making me angry again.
"Oh, Kid. Morgan was just telling us about the time she and your father went to Norway together and had to fight off like a billion kishin together." Liz said. "Sounds like they were pretty badass in their day."
"In my day?" Morgan asked, sounding partially offended. "Are you saying I'm old or something?"
"No! You're still amazing, Morgan." Patti chimed in, laughing a bit. "And you're still pretty, too."
"Don't tell me you've been won over by this witch?" I asked, disgusted by my weapons' behavior. "You do remember who we're fighting against, don't you?"
"Well, it's not her, if that's what you're getting at." Liz said, making a disgruntled face at me. "She's on our side, can't you see that? You're too stubborn for your own good."
I continued to glare at them, my blood boiling again. How dare she trick my friends into liking her? First Maka, now Liz and Patti, too? How long would it be before she had the whole Academy on her side and I had to fight her back by myself? Did no one else see what a conniving little bitch she was?
"Come on." I ordered, turning on my heel and storming out of the room. "We have to go pick up our assignment. The sooner we leave, the better. We don't know when they're planning to attack the City."
We went as a group to pick up our assignment, and upon my insistence, we left immediately. My father's orders were to go on foot so as to be able to easily sneak up on them. It wasn't too far of a walk anyway, so we should be able to reach their camp before dark. That should give us a little bit of an advantage, or so I hoped. So, we started off, me already on high alert for any sign of an approach from them. I could tell, however, that my companions were not as concinnities of their surroundings as I was.
"How long of a walk is it again, Kid?" Patti asked, not half an hour into the journey.
"Longer than what we've already covered." I said, annoyed. "We'll be lucky if we get there before the sun starts to set."
"We could use a bit of magic to get there faster," Morgan muttered, almost soft enough so I couldn't hear. Unfortunately, Patti and Liz did.
"Really!?" Liz exclaimed, grabbing her by the shoulders, stopping in her tracks. "Then why the hell are we walking?"
"Because my father said so. And I agree, it's the best course of action." I glared at Liz.
Morgan shrugged out from under Liz's hands and walked ahead of us a bit. I watched her warily. "I was just making a suggestion…" she said. "If I teleported us there, we could get this over with much quicker."
"No." I said, clenching my teeth together. "Besides, you know our deal. No using magic unless it's during a battle or absolutely necessary."
"I don't recall agreeing to that."
"Oh yes you do!" I walked up to her, and spun her around to face me. "Yesterday, after the meeting with my father. I asked you to stop using magic unnecessarily and you agreed. So stop pretending like you're so perfect and innocent. We're not using magic to get there."
Suddenly, the hand I had placed on her shoulder was grabbed, and my arm was twisted behind my back. Before I could even think of the proper response, I was shoved down into the sand. "Now you listen here, Death the Kid." Morgan suddenly sneered at me. I look up at her, surprised by her sudden outburst. It seemed her confident, dismissive façade had finally slipped. "I'm not someone you can push around. You don't get to order me around like that. I'm not your weapon, and I'm not your servant. Your father placed us as equal partners. Get used to it." She turned, hair flipping out behind her as she quickly progressed across the desert. "And you'll notice I didn't use my magic to attack you like I should have, brat." she called over her shoulder.
I pushed myself up off the sand, quickly brushing the disgusting substance from my black clothes. I watched as Liz and Patti walked around me, not even bothering to look at me as they followed the witch. I felt anger rising in me, but I quickly suppressed it. I wouldn't start anything with her out here. I wouldn't pique her anger again until we were in front of my father or the other students in the Academy. Then, maybe, she would actually break and use her magic against me, and it would be proven what a horrible witch she actually was.
We continued our trek across the burning sand, each step becoming harder and harder as the temperature around us rose. Liz and Patti soon fell behind, but Morgan and I kept speeding up, almost as if we were silently competing for who could spot the witch's camp first. I looked across at her, glaring. Suddenly, she stopped and reached over pulling me to the ground with her, behind a large sand dune. I begin to protest, but her frantic pointing made me look ahead. That's when I noticed the tall glass structure in front of us. I stared uncomprehendingly, even as a witch, given away by the purple soul around her, flew into a window in the top of the structure.
"These are some powerful witches, Kid." Morgan quietly whispered, ducking down again. "They melted the sand with their magic and built this glass structure. This is more than just a camp, this is a permanent headquarters. There's something big going on here."
"Well, since you're the expert on witches," I whispered back, catching her attention. "What do you suggest we do?" I looked over my shoulder as Liz and Patti crawled up, finally catching up with us.
"We need to know what's going on in there," she said. "We need to proceed with the plan as usual. And kill every witch in the place."
I nodded in agreement before motioning for the other three to circle up and giving them my brilliant plan of attack.
