Hello all, I am unbelievably sorry for stopping writing Companion Pains. My life has been hectic. Not only has it been hard to write for me for some reason, Companion Pains started feeling more like work than fun, and that's never a good thing. Now I look forward to writing it again, and I can't wait to get more of it back on track :)

I'm super excited to announce that school has come to a close for the summer, and I'm also pleased to announce that I have no life and therefore should have plenty of time to write (lol)

I've had more practice, so I think my writing should be much better from here on out. I'm also going through the first story of the Companion Pains series and editing, so within the next couple months Companion Pains I should start updating all edited and improved. Don't worry, it's on the same story.

I will try my absolute hardest to go back to getting out one chapter of Companion Pains II every week and editing Companion Pains I. I have most of the second story planned out, so hopefully writers block shouldn't be an issue. Thank you so much for being patient and following my story. Companion Pains is fun to write, and the support and reviews make it even more amazing. Thank you!

PLEASE REVIEW!

Mickey had to bite his tongue to keep himself from yelling out to the Doctors, who were running off among the trees, completely unaware of the Sontaran on their tails. For geniuses, they sure were stupid for not hearing the slamming of the heavy boots, nor the stench of its potato like head, which Mickey could smell from a mile away.

He jumped to his feet, and began running after them. His heart started pounding as he tried to keep up, nearly tripping several times as he bolted. They darted into the trees, which were growing denser and pinker by the second. The Sontaran didn't notice him following, nor did the Doctors realize that Mickey was missing, and that they were being chased. Mickey wondered how they survived that long being as oblivious as they were.

Well… obviously they didn't because as far as he knew, the Doctor was already on his 11th body.

"NOBODY ESCAPES THE SONTARAN EMPIRE!" the Sontaran screamed after the Doctors. 11 stopped dead in his tracks, and 9 slammed into him, causing them both to topple over. The Sontaran pulled his gun out of his holster, and cocked it, slowing to a stop as he aimed. "DEFIANCE WILL BE ELIMINATED!"

"Where the hell did he come from?!" 9 shouted. Mickey skidded to a stop about three feet away, behind the Sontaran, who was too busy screaming battle cries at the Doctors to notice he was there.

"SONTAR-HA! SONTAR-HA!"

Impulsively, Mickey darted behind one of the trees (although he doubted the skinny trunk concealed his rather large frame), breathing heavily. A few feet away, the Doctors were tangled up in a pile, too shocked by the Sontaran's appearance to figure out what to do. The Sontaran ceased his repetitive battle cry and began to speak in a low voice.

"You are my prisoners," he said monotonously, his voice carrying through the woods. "You will be taken captive and sacrificed for the greater glory of the Sontaran empire. Defiance will be eliminated!"

Mickey peeked around the tree, praying the Doctors would get themselves out of this pickle themselves, or Mickey would have to do something. He's taken on a Sontaran before without the Doctor, just after he and Martha married; it was practically their honeymoon. However, he felt helpless since he didn't have a blaster on him; those stupid Daleks confiscated them when he and Martha first ran into 9 and Amy.

The Sontaran reached down and yanked 11 to his feet. 9 cried out angrily as 11's foot smacked him in the face. Under any other circumstances, Mickey would have started laughing, but this obviously wasn't the time. 9 cursed out loud, and 11 flailed ridiculously helplessly. 9 opened his mouth, probably to say something rude when the Sontaran reached down and grabbed one of his big ears.

"Let me go!" 9 exclaimed, stumbling to his feet to keep his ear from ripping off. The Sontaran ignored him, and instead yelled, "Where is the other human?"

"Human?" 11 repeated, slapping at the Sontaran's hand clutching his neck. "What human?"

"We don't know about any human," 9 said, holding onto his ear, which the alien was still grabbing. The Sontaran spat at them, repeating the question.

Mickey realized that 11's eyes were on him, looking hopeful. 9 didn't seem to notice him; he was too busy kicking at the Sontaran's boot and trying to reach for his sonic screwdriver. Mickey saw 11 trying to reach for his own as well, but his arms were pinned behind his back now. Mickey couldn't read exactly what 11 wanted him to do, but he had a pretty good idea.

He took a step out from behind the tree, a few feet away from the potato head and the struggling Doctors. A half smile on 11's face said he was pleased, but was completely replaced by a grimace as the Sontaran gripped his neck harder. The alien continued to scream about the missing human as Mickey approached. He was completely oblivious to Mickey behind him. This is why the Sontaran was caught completely off guard as Mickey launched himself onto it.

The soldier lost his grip on the Doctors, who scrambled away, both fumbling for their sonics in their jacket pockets. Mickey took the large creature to the ground and was caught in a struggle. He didn't end up needing the Doctors help after all. He bent his elbow as he got the Sontaran kissing the ground and elbowed the little vent on the back of his head with all he had. He winced as it made a slight cracking noise. He hoped that was the vent.

The Sontaran jerked and shuddered before going completely limp. Mickey stumbled away from the unconscious alien with a grin, facing the Doctors triumphantly. 9 looked stunned that Mickey could do something like that.

"That's right, Doctor," Mickey spat. "I must not be completely useless if I saved your-"

"No need for language," 11 put in. 9 didn't say anything as Mickey continued to sneer at him. 11 turned to the Sontaran and pushed it onto his back with his foot. The potato head's eyes were tightly closed, and he groaned.

"So," said 9, "what do we do with this thing?"

Martha threw her arms around the young girl in the torchlight with a giant smile on her face. "Oh my goodness, Rose, you're alive!"

"Same goes for you!" Rose exclaimed with a laugh. Her blond hair bounced in Martha's face but she was too excited to care. Over Rose's shoulder in the torchlight, she saw the small orange alien who had left her behind in the cage.

"Kala," Martha said unhappily, breaking their embrace. "You left me in there!" Kala didn't respond for a moment, clearly working out what she was saying. After a few seconds, he shrugged.

"Kalaflaflajaja sorry," he said in his high pitched voice. After a moment, he added, "Martha slow."

Martha couldn't help but laugh at that comment. A grin stretched across the orange creature's face as another one came into view. This one looked exactly the same as Kala, except he was purple.

"Chee Chee welcome Martha and Rose," he said in a slightly garbled voice. It also spoke English like a second language. "Rose and Martha follow." Chee Chee turned without waiting for an answer and hobbled off in another direction out of the range of the torchlight. Martha glanced at Rose for sometime of reassurance, but Rose just shrugged. She mouthed something to her, but Martha couldn't quite make it out.

" Martha-Rose," Kala said suddenly, making them jump. Martha had almost forgotten Kala was still there. He looked up at them with his giant eyes. "Martha-Rose come."

Rose grabbed Martha's hand and they both began to follow. The creatures must have been able to see in the dark, because unlike the girls, they didn't bump into anything as they traveled. Kala's torch reached further and further in front of them, taking away half of the little light they had.

They continued through the darkness, following the two little aliens further and further into the cave. The ceiling stooped down for a few steps, and Rose, who Martha was trailing behind slightly bumped her head.

"You alright?" Martha asked, hearing her groan. Through the dim light, she saw Rose nod.

"Just watch out," Rose warned. "This cave is really crazy in layout. I was lost for a good amount of time before Chee Chee found me." Martha wasn't sure, but she thought she saw Rose smile. "Then he brought me to you."

"Same thing for me," Martha told her, ducking another dip in the ceiling. "Kala found me, too. They've got really long names," she added as an after thought. "I think Kala's is something like Kalaflafajeejee. Wait, I don't think that's right."

Rose chuckled, walking in between two tall stones. "Don't get me started on trying to pronounce Chee Chee's full name."

"Martha-Rose, quiet," Chee Chee said, suddenly appearing in the circle of torchlight. At first Martha thought that maybe Chee Chee was angry they were making fun of his name, but then she saw the worried look on his face.

"What's wrong?" Martha asked quietly. Rose's eyebrows furrowed as well.

"Is there something else in here?" she whispered. Chee Chee shook his head and pointed to the ceiling of the cave, which was at least two feet higher than he was.

"Them above might hear," he whispered. Kala nodded in agreement, bringing the torch closer as he approached.

"Kalaflaflajaja and Cheecheenobeeno quiet too." He looked scared as well. Rose reached out to put a hand on his orange shoulder. He winced slightly and the torchlight shivered along with him.

"What is it?" she asked. "What's up above?"

"Scary," said Kala. "Scary Roundies. With big guns."

Martha's eyes widened. "Our friends are up there, with my husband! We've got to go get them!" She raised her voice slightly, and the two aliens cried out in panic for silence. Martha murmured an apology and Chee Chee shook his head.

"Too late," he told them. "Scary Roundies have others. Too slow."

Martha and Rose's mouths both opened to say something, but Chee Chee hurried up ahead and disappeared into the stone.

"What?" exclaimed Martha. "Where did he go?"

"Martha-Rose come," said Kala. He walked forward, keeping the women in arms length. He turned around when they reached the walls. "Martha-Rose follow." In the light, Martha saw a large hole, big enough for her and Rose reaching deeper into the earth. It seemed to go down at a slant, like a scary seeming slide. Kala climbed into the hole, swinging his little legs downward and clutching the sides with his tiny fingers. The torch was put out, and through the darkness, the girls could barely see him.

"Martha-Rose slide!" He exclaimed, and they heard him and his shout disappear down the chute.

They stood in silence and surprise before Rose decided to swing her legs down. She glanced back at Martha, but couldn't really see her in the darkness.

"See you at the bottom, I guess," she murmured before letting go and zipping out of sight. Martha heard her cry out in joy as she faded away. Martha gulped, following in suit. She didn't let go of the side for several moments, before finally releasing her fingers and disappearing in a rush of wind.

The first thing River was aware of was a small body lying next to her, too small to be Maria. River rolled onto her back and put the palm of her hand to her forehead, wincing at how spinny everything seemed. She sniffed slightly before pulling herself into a sitting position, leaning against the wall behind her. Her head ached, but she knew it would go away. Timelords, even part Timelords like her don't stay hurt for long.

Her eyes focused on the small figure lying next to her. River saw her eyes closed through the mousy brown hair hanging over her face. She had some freckles, and her mouth was open slightly. She was lying on her side, her arm crossed over her stomach. She didn't look at all threatening, just small, even though she seemed about 15 or so.

River put her hand on the young girl's shoulder and shook her lightly. She groaned softly, her eyes cracking open slightly. She rubbed her eyes.

"Hello," said River. The girl jumped at the sound of her voice and rolled away from River slightly. She was quickly in a sitting position like River, staring at the woman.

"Who-"

"Don't worry," River interrupted quickly. "I'm not going to hurt you. My name is River." She looked the young girl up and down. "What's your name?"

"Sky," she murmured. She looked around the room, and it occurred to River to do the same thing.

They were both in a supply closet of some sort. The room was small and cramped, with just enough room for the two of them to sit comfortably. River noticed a mop leaning against the wall next to her. The door wasn't wood, it was a sort of metal. There was a low buzzing noise, but she didn't know what it was from.

"Where's Luke?" Sky asked. "My brother, Luke Smith. Have you seen him?"

River shook her head, recognizing the names. Sky, Luke. Maria's friends. "I don't know where he is, but I know Maria's around here somewhere. I came with her," she told Sky. Sky's face lit up.

"Maria Jackson? Really?" River nodded and Sky grinned. "She can help us. She might know where Sarah Jane is."

"I know where she is… well, where she was. I don't know where she is now."

Sky's face fell. "We've got to find the others. Luke, Clyde, Rani and Maria. Then we can kick some Slitheen butt!" She looked determined standing up straight and looking around the supply closet. River knew immediately that she liked this girl, the way she thinks. River got up as well, but went right to the door.

"The Slitheen must want us out of the way," River said, trying the door handle. "Otherwise we would be stuck in the middle of the action. The others might be locked up like us, or they might be in the middle of it all."

"Either way we've got to find them," said Sky. River tugged on the door handle, but it was locked. The buzzing was louder right in front of the door, and River realized what it was.

"It's electronically locked," said an irritated River. Her hand wandered to her belt where her gun should be, and she wasn't surprised to find that it was gone. She goes through those things quickly. "The door's going to be harder to open."

"Let me," Sky said, pushing past. River was about to tell her that she couldn't do anything to open, when Sky made herself laugh loud. The light in the room flickered, and something in the door popped.

"What-" River was shocked as Sky twisted the handle and was able to push the door open. "What did you do?"

Sky shrugged. "I laughed," she said stating the obvious. "Clyde says I'm a bright spark." She didn't say anything else as she ducked out of the room. River quickly followed, mystified and interested to see what else Maria's friends could do.

"The damn scanner's out again," said Donna, banging the side of her fist on the screen's frame. 10 hurried over to her, snapping at her as he pushed her out of the way for banging on the TARDIS.

Rory strolled to the console. "Doctor, you've got to find my wife," he told him. 10 nodded.

"Believe me, finding Sarah and Amy is very important to me," he replied. He fiddled with some buttons and switches and cursed. "I don't know what's wrong with her," he told them, stroking the side of the console. "The scanner should be working."

"Well it's not," Donna barked. "Is there some other way to figure out where they've gone?" 10 shook his head.

"Not without going out there and searching." He had barely finished speaking when Rory started stomping towards the TARDIS door. 10's eyes followed them. "Oi, where are you going?"

"To find my wife, Doctor," Rory snapped, turning on his heels. "I've lost her once already today, and it's been one hell of a long day. I'm not losing her again." He pushed the door open and stalked out without closing it.

"Rory," Donna called. She jogged after him and 10 growled. He smacked the console and hurried out to follow them. The doors shut automatically behind him and he heard the lock click. He stuck his hand in his pocket to make sure the key was there before catching up with the other two.

"Rory, we don't know where we're going," Donna was insisting. "We'd just be wandering around blindly. There's no way to know for sure if we're even going the right way."

"I don't care," Rory snapped. "I'm finding my wife."

10 put a hand on Rory's shoulder, stopping him in his tracks. "I want to find them, too, but if I fix the scanner, we might have a better chance of doing that."

"Do what you want," Rory growled. "I'm going to find Amy, with or without you." He started walking ahead, then stopped. "Are you coming?"

Donna and 10 exchanged glances before sighing. "Yeah, we're coming," 10 murmured. Rory nodded, satisfied, starting to head towards the path that reached up the side of the canyon. The cave where they found the panicked man was starting to come into view, reminding 10 of the unknown dangers on the planet.

"We can't do anything rash," the Doctor called up ahead. "We don't know what's here, or what Geneva is."

"I don't care," Rory called back. "Hurry up! Amy and Sarah Jane might need us."

"Now he mentions Sarah Jane," muttered Donna, as she and 10 hurried to catch up. As they reached the top of the canyon, shivers ran up and down 10's spine. Something about the way the man was terrified of Geneva made his blood run cold, and he knew they had to be careful.

Something was out there. And for all they knew, it had Amy and Sarah Jane.
